EDIT ** FIXED IT*** I had flashed the wrong kernel in my phone. found the right one, now Im cool.
Thanks anyway
Hi
heres the deal... Tried to root the SGS2, never did a backup, Used an Unsecured Kernel from a list on here, picked at random. I think I picked the wrong Kernel for my phone. It must have gotten Rooted, I see the yellow triangle, But I do not have any phone service anymore. Before someone finds me hanging in the shower... is there any help that can be offered to me?
Thanks,
BC
Have you tried to flash back to the stock kernel? You can probably find yours here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
What kernel did you use?. Try installing the stock kernel whit odin, and then install the kernel cfroot, that way you will be as root, make a nandroid backup and flash what you want.
I USED KERNEL 2.6.35.7-I9100BOKE3-CL186387
Where can I find the stock kernel? Please bare with me, real new to this .
read this, you will be a big help, plus there are the download links.

Did you buy your phone from AT&T or T mobile? If yes you are in the wrong forum and using the kernel from a different model. Your phone isn't I9100, keep scroll down on the main page to the carrier specific subforum.

First thing First.
make sure you know what version of the phone you have.
I would go to settings> about phone and write down all the info there. This way you can figure out what you have so you know what you need.
This sgs2 phone is actually my friends. he rooted without reading up first. I had to do a bunch of reading and find out how to fix it. which I did.
I rooted my htc evo back in march, this sgs2 is a different process, so im learning all over again. only this time i kinda hane an idea of what people are talking about.
good luck
I'm looking to download stock rom XXKI3. I need to return my I900 to the store and want to restore the firmware I had when I bought the phone. I am currently using MIUI v4 and don't want any hassle from the staff.
I am living in China and have only had the phone for 2 days. I noticed that the screen has screen burn/ ghosting, It's not very obvious, but after loading a pure blue image I can make out some of the display, and it looks like either a Chinese/ Korean keypad. I would assume then that the phone I got has been used before me, either by someone, or on display, which I am obviously not happy about.
I don't want to give them any reason to not give me a replacement phone.
All the links online I can find are dead, if anyone has it or knows where I can get it, I would much appreciate the help.
I have the files for Odin. Let me upload them and I'll post you a link!

This one? http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=447
Thanks for all the replies! Oh man do I feel dumb, I posted the wrong code, it's actually ZSKI3 I need.
XXKI3 doesn't have the Chinese language, which they will no doubt try to switch the phone to when I take it in.
I can't find ZSKI3 on sammobile or anywhere on google. The link on the firmwares page on this site is dead too.
Any ideas?
Found it!

many thanks! i need that rom too
i upgraded my phone to 4.0.3 accidentially (kies prompted me to upgrade when i connect my phone to the PC, and i clicked the button to confirm the action wrongly)
since then, my phone sucks, hangs and crashed with some apps, even after i reset to the factory setting (cleared all the data!!!!)
now, my phone is likely to hang up, while i installed apk files (but it is ok to install app directly from google play) (the apk files are ok in the previous ver of andriod and should be the same as the one if i download them from google play directly)
so i decided to revert back to 2.3.5..................and would not upgrade the firmware again..................
Trying to flash to stock HK firmware since encountering a boot loop
I wasn't sure if I was in the right thread so I originally posted on here:
[Q] How to flash the original ROM?(HK official ROM)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31073452#post31073452
Hope everyone doesn't mind me posting some questions on this thread too.
I am trying to figure out which official stock firmware for Hong Kong I should use (ZSKF1, ZSKF4, ZSKG2, ZSKI3) since I can no longer access settings on my phone due to the boot loop error. I am basically guessing since I cannot remember the exact kernel version or any other info. I am trying my best to make more educated guesses. I know I got my phone from Hong Kong in Nov 2011.
First I am trying to follow the instructions on this thread for the boot loop error. It requires me to find the stock rom I want to flash to. So I am working on finding the correct stock rom.
[READ THIS] Got a Boot Loop? Don't post a New Thread!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
I was getting lost in the list of them on here. But I narrowed it the the 4 I picked out with code ZS for China, Hong Kong.

For booshman:
The file you gave on this thread, it is for ZSKI3 but how do I know if it is right for my case? Will it restore to GT-i9100 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for Hong Kong stock rom? I had no custom roms and was running from the stock all the way through and I still encountered the boot loop error.
I already tried going on samfirmware but they only had Android ver 4 for Hong Kong. I want to restore my phone to exactly what I had before which is Gingerbread and start anew from there.
If anyone can give me some insights, that will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all!!
I figured it all out! I got out of boot loop! No need for response. Sorry for spamming everyone...
Just wanted to say:

Hi All,
I'm totally new to rooting and to be honest I never planned to get into it and especially not in this way.... please read on....
I bought a 2nd hand S3. The original owner told me it had been unlocked from Vodafone UK, but no further modifications.
So the phone arrives and I turn it on and the first thing I notice is UltimaROM asking to download their latest v9 ROM. I see other apps installed like SuperuserSU, Headphones shortcut for SGS3, S Note etc... so I suspect the device has indeed been modified. Seller tells me it's only been unlocked and nothing else. Also, comparing to a work colleague's stock S3, my phone has a different appearance (different battery % icon amongst others...), I see Nexus 4 wallpapers are available, JaiThemes etc... all looks a bit fishy to me.
Also phone does boot into recovery mode into CWM...
So I start reading a little bit, I've downloaded Rootchecker - says phone is not rooted.
All I ever wanted was a stock S3, no interest in rooting for now. Could someone please advise what I can do to get back to stock and have it unlocked? I know there are guides to un-root a phone, but rootchecker says my phone is not rooted, and I have no original backup, so I don't know where to go from here....
Any help or guidance is appreciated here...
Check the basics, there's a guide on flashing a stock ROM.
The seller is definitely lying to you

Thanks for the reply.
If I find a Vodafone UK stock ROM, will I then lock the phone back to Vodafone?
Thanks
Don't think so, but why would you get a vodafone ROM? Just get a universal one

Thanks for that, I will look for a universal one.
I've been looking for a bit, but I can't find the 'basics' section you mention in order to flash a stock ROM.
I have searched the forums, and people have mentioned ' I flashed a stock ROM' but I need to know the steps to do this...
Also - has my warranty been affected? If yes and it is now invalid, will flashing a stock ROM solve this?
Again, any help is really appreciated here.

Hello XDA
I've been doing some research on my problem on dozens og forums, but I still haven't got what I'm looking for.
The problem:
I have a danish 3 (three) branded GT-I9100, which doesn't allow me to get the new android 4.1 update, as they haven't infected the update with their 3 junk yet.
I'm not using any of their applications or shortcuts, and would very much like to get rid of everything that has something to do with 3.
I need to backup the stock firmware in order to keep my warranty if something goes wrong, but I haven't been able to find out how to do it, because my phone has a very strange kernel: 3.0.15-1114882 [email protected] #3
I hope someone can help me. I'm not completely noob, i've been rooting my previously android phones without any problems, but I just can't figure out how to do it with this kernel.
Best regards
Morten

Start here https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+install+jb+on+i9100.
Then go to the official i9100 JB thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487".
Sent from my digital submersible hovercraft.
1.just flash the nordic jellybean.
2.you dont really get a "standard backup".what you would do is just reflash the firmware your on now (remove yellow triangle etc if needed) then send your phone for warranty.
3.if your phone ever got totally bricked, it wouldnt matter what rom your on if samsung couldnt boot it either to tell.
4.so get the nordic jb rom from sammobile, flash it with odin, root with philz kernel.read about efs backup and nand backup and spockys thread about simlock...lol

First you need to find out if your phone is network locked. Theres an app for that. (search xda/play store) the same app will be able to unlock it for you too but you will need to root your phone.. see my signature for your best option as its root with stock recovery. Your next step go to sammobile.com and find and download your current firmware from there. Then find a jelly bean rom I'm using nordic but search and see what sounds best to you... There are also custom roms you may wish to choose (wannam, jellybam, there are many) find one for you with the search box or browse the forum for them. there are custom kernels as well (jeboo, philz, there are many) find one for you as above or use what your rom choice is packed with.
I cant recommend enough using mobile odin (Play store) will cost you a couple of your currency but its worth every penny.
LASTLY AND VERY MUCH MOST IMPORTANTLY DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING UNLESS YOU ARE 10000000% HAPPY TO DO IT ONE SINGLE MISTAKE AND YOU'LL BE BACK HERE ASKING FOR HELP TO UNBRICK IT.
Read these before you do anything... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826497

But how will I find the firmware I'm currently on? My warranty is spoiled if the phone isn't carrier branded,
as I have to hand it to my local 3 store to get them to send it to repair.
Perhaps my question should've been more like this:
How can I backup my branded firmware on my galaxy s2 from 3 (three)
Perhaps I'm a bit noob afterall, as I haven't seen that answer in your post or the others posts.
Best regards

You havent seen it because it doesnt exist.I dont know how much of a noob you are, but you go to sammobile and get the stock firmware you are on now, and flash that if you are sending your phone back for warranty.
Eg.Im using spanish jb rooted because UK jb rom not out yet.My original software was I9100XWLPT (which is UK unbranded 4.0.4).
So if Im sending my phone back, I just flash the LPT rom from Sammobile; and check no traces of root are on my phone.
So, what you think a backup is/means, is the same result as just flashing the stock rom your on now.
You can check or wait to see if someone can confirm what level of, or if kies can make a backup of your stock rom, as I dont use kies or havent seen anyone using it.They just use odin.
Hey everyone, first post here so please take it easy .. I've read a few older posts but having trouble knowing I have the most correct updated files.
I'm generally not the worst with techy stuff but I'm needing some basic walk through to flash my phone to the unlocked version of someone can help me out.
I have a US cellular branded s9+. I recently transferred it over to total wireless.. And it seems I've gotten most things working for the most part. However, I lose Data when making phone calls. So even though my volte setting is turned on it appears it's glitchkng up... I'm assuming because it's the uscc firmware. Based in what I've read on reddit it seems flashing to u1 is the best bet to fix issues like this.
I've read some threads and I'm not really sure which version of Odin I need and which firmware is correct.. If anyone can help this rookie out I'd be greatly appreciative.. And maybe confirm flashing is the correct way to go about this??
Thanks in advance!
All u need to do is flash to TMobile and your all good to go. I was using a sprint variant of it and I would also lose data.
Flashed it and now I have all the perks Wifi Calling / VoLte
