Car Charger for Asus TF101 - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

I received my NTK car charger earlier today and it works great....plugged it in my car used my Asus usb and it charged my Asus just as quick as the house charger....it has an output of 12v 2.0A. Got it from Amazon here ------> http://www.amazon.com/NTK-BULLET-CHARGER-TRANSFORMER-TABLET/dp/B005L8Q4VU It was $18 with shipping.

Great been looking for something like this.

Nice, I was just about to start searching for one of these. Now if I can find a dock that's not too high I will be doing great!

bought one of these, got it today.. works great...cant go wrong..

Why would you all not just build one for $1.50? Pretty simple red -> red, black -> black.

Where did you get a plug that outputs 12-15v 2A for $1.50?

Anyone got any ideas where I can get this in the UK

Ehm... You need a female usb plug, some wire and... uhm... yea thats it.
Then just hook it up to wherever you want to steal power from, red to red black to black.

What about a voltage regulator? I know the cars voltage fluctuates from 12-14v and ist clean power. and then there is amperage. Ive seen plenty of 12v devices fry with just direct 12v to the car.

A fuse should be enough.

The adapter I made used a LC filter made with parts I had lying around. Radio Shack sells a noise supressor kit containing a capacitor and inductor suitable for that use. Also use a 2A fuse and a reverse polarity protection diode, maybe a large 15V zener as well. (My car, a Prius, actually uses a switching power supply to power the 12V outlets and should not need any additional filtering, but it's still a good idea.)

Spare AC Adapter

Kinda bothers me that the unit only charges via an AC Adapter, I was hoping it would charge through the mini usb. Anyone know of a way to get a spare. I'm already dreading being without this GTab if the charger breaks.
I'm not at my tab right now but I looked at the adapter once before and saw m630 (or something like that) on the back. When I google'd it I found a kodak m630 for like $14.

I measured the output of the power adapter supplied and it was around 18V open circuit and definitely AC despite the center positive symbol on the back of the wall wart. Can you confirm that the 12V DC center positive adapter charges the tablet. I would love to buy a car adapter for this for when I travel. Thanks.

The ZT-180 uses a 9V 2A power supply. The g-tablet uses 12V 2A. These are not compatible.
Don't know if this one has been posted, but here is the exact power supply:
http://shop.accessory4you.com/05-chanpin/p-001-1.asp?id=2388
On a related note: When I was looking for a PSU for my ZT-180, a co-worker gave me one from a broken portable DVD player (9V 2A). He also gave me the automobile adapter that came with the portable DVD player. It is rated at 12V 2A. I'm not sure why the different ratings for the same device, but I didn't even want to try it on the ZT-180.
It looks like it may work on the g-tablet, but I'm afraid to try it. I don't know the model DVD player it came from, but I'll ask the guy who gave it to me. He went deer hunting, so I won't see him until after Thanksgiving.
EDIT: It looks like Radio Shack has an automobile adapter that MAY work with the g-tablet.

I'm not sure what it was you were measuring. A 12V DC PSU measures at 18V AC ?
Mine measures 12.28V DC. In AC mode my meter doesn't even get a read from the power supply.

Seems like a pretty standard plug, so if you find a charger with the same specs online it will work. If the plug doesn't match you could always solder yours on a new charger's cable.
12V DC and can handle a 2A load
Check out Mouser or Digikey: http://www.mouser.com/Power/Plug-In-AC-Adapters/_/N-wp53?P=1z0wda1

The alternative too is to find an ac adapter that provides the correct output as the original wall wart, but maybe has a different plug at the end. Just cut off the incorrect plug, cut off the OE plug with some amount of wire, strip back, check polarity, and reattach, and electrical tape it. Good for an emergency situation like this.
test the AC adapter first.....I read another guys tablet stopped charging during a cm flash.
My theory is that your AC adapter is fine....they only tend to "break" when there is a short in the device.
And you can pick one up at radio shack. 12v 2amp tip positive.

There is a switch near the plugs on the adapter, and if you move it over the plug will slide off. Is it making a good connection with that module?

Car charger for G-Tablet

Just received "Tomtom Navigator 6 GPS Kit". Didn't test it yet as GPS, still charging.
What I noticed that it comes with the car charger that completely compatible with G-Tab. Connector size and 12V, 2A center positive.
Just to let people know who are looking for the car charger for the Tab.
Have you tried it yet?
I have one that someone gave me, from a broken portable DVD player. It also is rated 12V 2A, but I am afraid to try it.
The weird thing is that they also gave me the wall wart for the same DVD player, and it is rated at 9V 2.2A. That works perfectly for my ZT-180 tablet.

I haven't tried my DVD car charger either because even though it fits, it has a sticker on it that says "Do not use for battery recharging".
SORRY!!!
Made an a$$ of myself.
Have to read more careful... That was input 12V, 2A... Although the plug is the right size.
Unfortunately output is 5V, 2A that does not charge the Tab....
So.... Went to Walmart and bought an inverter: "Philips" model DVDP32.
It charges Tab using regular A/C plug supplied with G-tab.
Price $20.
Now can use the Tab as GPS without draining the battery.
glad that the tomtom gps works!
may I ask which navigation software you use?
I'm still looking for a good one.
hopefully a nice affordable offline nav app...

Intend to use CoPilot live 8.
Great GPS, have one on my HD2, windows thou.
Nice part is that you're not dependent on any connection, WiFi or 3G.
All maps are pre-loaded and updates coming regularly. It's nice to have it on the phone, but screen is small comparing to G-Tab. Otherwise NA edition costs only $19 right now, discounted from usual $26.

As long as that won't fry the tablet in the long run, sounds like an excellent idea.
Keep in mind that cars run about 13v to 14.6v, so unless the car adapter is already doing some regulation it might be higher than 12v. Personally, to be safe, I would get a cheap auto adapter, crack it open, put a voltage regulator inside to drop it down to something closer to the charger voltage, which IIRC is 7.4v (correct me if I am wrong) The factory charger is 12v 2a, so probably the charger is exactly perfect. But then again, I'm a belt and suspenders kinda guy.
Does anyone know if it is actually fine/good to charge it off 12v? Or is it one of those things that works fine but in a few months will end up frying the internal voltage regulator for the charging circuit because it got too hot or was just at the limit of its capabilities from running at 12v?

If the auto adapter says that it has an output of 12V 2A, then that is what it will usually output. You can check the voltage fairly easily.

Was under the impression he was using one of the adapters that just gave you power from the car but had no form of voltage control and just a fuse. I had a friend fry a Garmin with a cheap '12 v' adapter that was just fused, so just wanted to make sure.

Thanks for the correction, I just didn't have a charger near me to check when I posted. But now I feel a lot better about car charging.
I've been looking for a car charger for my incoming tab, I'll have to check out the shack.
The cheapo' ones from places like monopice or merit line bleed off extra voltage via heat, so they are easy to fry. A good charger that has the proper regulator circuitry to output at it's given rating should not get warm when used.

I agree I have changed all of my plugs from mini usb to micro now. =/
Found one
Radio Shack has a 12v 2A charger with interchangable tips. The "B" tip is the one that fits, and I confirm it working. I am an idiot and didn't realize that the tip connections are polarized so I thought the charger was broken at first. Make sure to have the word "TIP" on the connector line up with the "INPUT" on the actual charger.
well..you guys are somewhat right and somewhat wrong.
the 12VDC on a car can be anywhere from 11VDC (engine off, battery low) to 14.5VDC.
Careful with some of the plugs. If they are not regulated, it's just a voltage divider resistor in the power stage and may not be current limited.
On the other hand, if it is current limited, and the tablet starts pulling 2A from a 500mA (most cell chargers) plug, you'll let out the magic smoke that makes it work.
I've got it on the docket to do a true regulated 12VDC / 2A charger as well. I'll see if I can get some cheapies and do some testing to show you guys what I'm talking about but I need to get a small controllable load.

Well a couple of days ago I was on my way home from work and I was at around 30% on my Nexus. Out of curiosity I plugged the phone into a 2A Anker charger (which worked really well with my M8... 1%/min) and it said it would be fully charged in about 2 hours. I then plugged the phone into the PowerMod Quick Charge charger and it said it would be fully charged in about 50 something minutes. So I would say pretty well! My phone was fully charged by the time I got home (my commute is about an hour 15 minutes).

I have the Incipio QC 2.0 car charger, it works as intended for QC 2.0. I had the PowerMod one, but it was a little loose in my car outlet so it would lose power sometimes if you bumped it accidentally. There's another OP about car chargers which I meant to post pictures of my charger in. The nice part about the Incipio is it has a USB port so you can use your own cable. I tried the VZW which was nice, but I don't like chargers where I can't replace the cable if/when it wears out. The VZW one is also 35$ compared to $21 for the Incipio on Amazon with Prime shipping (thats what I paid for it) and you get a nice coiled cable for a good deal on there and still have money left over compared to the VZW one.
I originally had the Incipio car charger, but I had to return it because it didn't work in my car's charging port, for some reason (it worked in another car, so not sure). Also, The Incipio one was too large, as I'm used to slim car chargers that barely stick out. And while it's not a big deal, the Incipio one didn't come with a microUSB cable.
After a bit of searching, I found the Ventev Dashport Q1200. It's a little hard to find right now, but here's a listing on Amazon. From what I could see, this one was the only QC 2.0 compatible car charger that was also slim. It also came with a flat ribbon-style microUSB cable.

Thanks for sharing, if it works then its worth it seeing as its a lot cheaper!
I ordered a dash car charger from aliexpress, but it's definitely not dash charging. I tried with the original cable.
Yeah, for that price this is definitely going to be quality stuff, watch it either go up in flames or blow your phone's power circuit lol

if it's really Dash charger at that price it will be so nice : )
you know the orignal has insane price
Until now there is no feedback on it
Got my DASH car charger including a cable and it works as intended with DASH mode. The cable alone also properly works with my 100% genuine wall charger. :good:

The car charger does get hot, indeed. But that's the whole idea of DASH charging -- keep the heat away from the phone battery where it can only slowly dissipate. The car charger is quite sturdy and made (almost) entirely fro metal, so it'll cool down quickly after charging.
I am not sure if it's an issue as I could not watch it too closely while driving but the DASH mode charging seems to have ended around 75% and afterwards it went on with normal mode. Not sure if that's how it is supposed to be as I've never watched my wall charger that closely.

Nice sounds good, I might get one in the future, but on the other hand I also have some referral points over at OnePlus.
They now redirect to another one that should suit better for the one plus 5. The linked one is only for one plus 3/3T. I think I will buy it later and test it.
I just like how I am able to top up my battery while navigating with GPS on. Tried or during a weekend getaway and worked nicely.
