[Q] Change default sms app - Milestone XT720 Themes and Apps

Hi,
is there a way to change default sms app by handcent sms without sms lost and by this way release RAM used by default sms app that run in background for nothing?
Thank you

I did that before.
But it turned out handsent MMS could not receieve MMS correctly, if you deleted original Mms.apk.
Not sure whether the new version of Handcent MMS has fixed this issue.
Now I like Mms.apk in CM7. Alos Miui Rom's Mms.apk is pretty good as well.

u can set handcent as the default sms app just selecting the option "set handcent sms as default ecc....." in the configuration menu.
i do it and the stock sms app just stop running or autorunning

[Q] SMS App

I want to replace the default SMS app with the one I downloaded [Handcent SMS] is this possible? the reason being is when I receive a text I get 2 notifications now 1 from the default and one from the one I installed
try to backup the orginal and remove it.
I'll give it a go, thanks
UPDATE: so far so good ^^
can you say what are the benefits of 'Handcent SMS'?
is it so much better then the stock SE sms thing?
Yeah, I have installed a qwerty keyboard, I want to use it landscape for better typing [accuracy] but the default SMS app doesn't rotate whereas Handcent SMS does

There is no need to remove the default sms/mms application.
Go to Definitions->Sony Ericsson (1st)->Messages (Last)->Disable Notifications
(Maybe names are a little different, but my menus aren't in English)

Much better looking and some customization. Pop-Up menu, alerts, message view, groups....
Disable sms notifications: settings > Sony Ericsson > Messaging > Uncheck 'notification'.
Handcent is too good )
I use handcent too. It offers a lot of options to customise the application and works well on my mini pro.
One thing I found out reading the x10 forum is you should not uninstall the stock sms application because handcent can't deal with mms on its own. Though perhaps this issue has been addressed in recent updates of handcent. I have not yet looked into it.
But definitively disable the stock notifications.

According to the latest news on the handcent homepage, it should've been resolved

I flashed the lockscreen mod for the vibrant and was wondering if there is any way to get the puzzle lock or lock from the EPIC to work with HANDCENT SMS
bump, looking for a solution for this too. I think it involves editing files to redirect from the default messenger to either chompsms or handcent but im not sure where to look.

Does anybody knows how to change it??? Because it doesnt appear the option in messages--settings
Grab a alternative sms program like sms go, handcent or something similar, lots of skins there and all your sms are preserved

Go SMSPro has also traditional inbox view and almost all that
Agree with op. I used to use go sms pro but have switched to pansi since a few weeks back. It loads much faster - the main app as well as the pop up.
yes i use sms pro, but i feel better to use Pansi sms app
I have change to Pansi for a week ago and i agree... I have used alot of similar apps and this one is one of the best...:good:

LauncherPro notifications

Hey guys
I got the SGSII a few days ago and downloaded LauncherPro because I like the app tray to be vertical like the Nexus S.
Anyway, I have a "Messaging" shortcut on my homepage. The problem is that when I get a new message and have not looked at it, it does not show a little notification beside the icon (like a small "1" if I have 1 unread message).
Is there something I can do to fix this? It also does this with my emails (my email icon is one of the dock icons). I have "Unread SMS count" checked in LauncherPro preferences but it still does not work.
Thanks,
Elliott
This is from the the LP website...hope it helps...
Please note that for these notifications to work, you must either use the corresponding LauncherPro-style icon, or have the shortcut set for the stock phone/messaging app. It should work with other apps as long as you use the LauncherPro icon, and it should work with custom icons as long as you use the stock apps. Support for 3rd party apps with custom icons *might* come in the future but it’s not certain yet.
Thanks.
I do have a shortcut set for the stock messaging app and still doesn't work. No custom icons...

you have gone into menu>preferences>dock settings and ticked the notifications for unread sms count havent you?
Ive a custom icon linking to handcent and its working fine with a little red 1 when i have an unread text.

I believe the newest version of Gmail "broke" the mail notofication in both ADWLauncher and LauncherPro. The ADWNotifier description says the following: "Since Gmail app updated to 2.3.5, we can no longer receive the unread count data. I'll try to find an alternative. " Nothing from LauncherPro so far.

From the LauncherPro site: I just received some pretty sad news. The API that LauncherPro uses to access your Gmail messages (used on the Gmail widget and the Gmail dock notifications) is being removed in the next version of the Gmail app for Android 2.2 and higher. Apparently the API does not meet modern security standards.
What this means for LauncherPro users is once you update to this new version, your LauncherPro Plus Gmail widget, and LauncherPro Gmail dock notifications will stop working, and even potentially crash the launcher if you try to use them (I don’t have access to this upcoming version yet, so I cannot fully test it).
I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope that the Android team will come out with a revised API soon enough, so that we can re-gain our Gmail integration in LauncherPro.

Yes I have. And yes I've read that it seems to work for Handcent but not for the stock messaging app.

Exactly. Thank you. But my email is also not working in the dock...just using the stock email app with Hotmail.
Bump...anyone?
The latest gmail update changed the api structure so that all gmail notification apps (even launcher pro and touchwiz 4.5).
We have to wait for those apps to be updated to the new system.
