Guys,
this may sound like a stupid question, but bear with me.
I just did a nandroid backup because I am thinking about a liquid smooth ROM, want to try a senseless rom to compare to my SoaB. And the question I have is this:
with my Nandroid backup, does that also save contacts and calender information, or is that lost once I wipe? Is it returned if I return to the prior nandroid?
Thanks!
If contacts and calendar are tied to the Gmail account, then they will come back on any ROM flash, after Google sign in.

Yea, except my wifes life is tied to outlook, so to prevent any scheduling mishaps, its "don't link google to outlook". Either that or get a new wife.
Happy wife, happy life.
Thanks!
Unless Outlook server is storing them on the device rather than the server, they will be visible on reconnection to the outlook server.

Restoring a nandroid will put it just the way it was at backup time. Regardless of how your contacts are stored, they will all be there after a restore. Same with all text messages at the time if backup.

Thanks guys! Will see about throwing a senseless rom on this weekend maybe!
Outlook and the server, if set up to store email and calendar artifacts locally, may or may not recreate them after a flash. Why? If ONLY stored locally and not backed up locally, what/how would they reappear? How could server give them something that doesn't exist.
I'd find out for certain exactly how and where the Outlook server stores stuff, to be safe.

Just use TitaniumBackup to remove any apps you don't like.

Call me an idiot...but I thought Google sync was obsolete with android, considering most of the devices are powered by Google! ....am I wrong....be nice !!
I will reiterate - Titanium Backup works great for restoring, in my case programs with data like Timeriffic.

You are wrong. Google sync is an android feature. It's one of the benefits to logging in with your gmail account when you setup a new ROM.

I've never been able to get Titanium Backup to backup and restore contacts...
You could just export your contacts to your SD card then import them back after you flash a new ROM. While in people, hit menu then export.
Xda team, does anyone know if there is an app or a way to back up my email acct settings so that when I change from one ROM to another or when i wipe, I can easily restore my email accts? I have 5 accts and I update to new Roms constantly doing a full wipe each time. Setting up my email is a pain everytime. Even if it is a paid app, this would be great and i would be willing to donate to a developer whom wants to tackle his.
Any ideas?

Have you tried TitaniumBackup? It may not work going from some roms to others if you're talking about the stock Email app because versions may be different between roms. If after restoring data using TiBu you have problems, you can probably fix that by uninstalling the stock Email app that's in the rom and restoring the app&data of your backup. If on the other hand, you are just talking about Google accounts, TiBu will save those as well.
What is the best way to backup contacts now that we can't use the backup /restore option in android 2.3

this had to go to Q&A, but anyways, just install them on sim card and they will sync everytime you reflash the phone or do something else or use titanium backup or any other 3rd party application.
I have all my contacts stored in my gmailaccount and let it sync after I put a new ROM on my phone.
Before I went to the trouble of storing all my contacts in my gmailaccount, I used the backup to .vcf function in Go Contacts app.
+1
I do same as ldeleeuw, just synch it with your google account
Regards
Awesome guys.
How do I do that?!
And will my calendar be synced as well?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Yes it will!!
I will recommnend Google sync.. it also helped me many times when I am running out of battery.
Also editing is also powerful in Gmail acct.
Another tool I found was, fjsoft's mobile phone explorer. It will give you many options to customize backup. Google fjsoft and dload. "Mobile Phone Explorer" is free.

On my PC, I imported a vcf-file into my gmailaccount, which I created with GO Contacts. It's is a single vcf-file with mutiple contacts, so importing it is very easy.
To sync it with your phone, you'll need to setup syncronisation somewhere in settings
What about going into settings and pressing the sync button to sync with my gmail account ?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
sounds like you are already synced, have to checked your contacts page in gmail on a pc?
also you can got Phone book - menu - more - Backup contacts - memory card
I would go for MyBackup as i dont sync often.

I'm using MyPhoneExplorer and I think it is the best back up way. You can sync, archive, export, import your contacts, messages and calendar.
It can save your contacts with pictures. See this page:

just use old backuprestore.apk.....it is working like charm...see my post..

I set up 5 months worth of events and it just wont sync to mmy phone. I've tried manually syncing as well. I also tried 3 third party calendar apps which wont sync either.

More details might help. What rom are you running, have you done anything special to it, what steps you've taken to try and fix it, is this your first android phone?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Stock rom, just rooted. Ive tried syncing manually, clearing the calendar data, trying to fix it via google calendar website, tried a few calendar applications. Not sure what to do now.
Its my second phone, Inspire was my first
Does everything else sync?
From your response it sounds like you have looked this up already. So with that in mind maybe it's more of a small detail.
Are the calender events you're saving being saved to your Google calender or your local calender?

Well I dont really sync anything honestly. This is pretty much the first time I've tried to sync with this phone. The event is being saved onto my Google Calender.
Edit:
When I go into Settings>Accounts and Sync>My Gmail, it only shows Contacts, Gmail, and Picasa. No calendar here.
Wow. That's a first for me. How did you root your phone?

So when you access your calendar none of the events show up?
And you have tried opening the menu once you access the calendar going to settings->Calendar Sync-> selecting gmail syncing that way?
I know that with my calendar, contacts, etc. it took a long time before the information updated. I would say about 10-15 minutes and I did not create 5 months events more like major holidays and 250 or so facebook related events.
I would suggest giving it more time or rebooting the phone and trying the whole thing all over again.

The events show on my desktop but not on my phone.
Yes, settings>Calendar Sync> my gmail is already checked. Ive given it over 12 hours now lol. Thanks
hopefully this helps (read the 2nd reply):

that was for the Nexus 1 but maybe it'll work for you. Add a 2nd gmail account and see if that calendar sync option reappears.

Ok I added my 2nd gmail account, I get "Sync Contacts, Sync Gmail" only
If it were my phone I'd flash stock to see if that fixes it. Seems like the software is messed up. I can't think of any reason Calender wouldn't show up under sync.

Well I didnt flash any ROM, i just rooted so I can get a few rooted apps. Im new to this, but that means im still on the stock ROM right?
Correct, you're still on stock then. I really like entropy512's method, as it flashes stock (can help fix most system problems if you're running a stock rom) and it's rooted.
I'm not promising you wont lose what apps you've installed, but I've had a few times I've done it now and all my apps stayed installed. Pretty quick process all in all.

Hi. I'm coming from a stock samsung 2.3.3 rom, I'm all ready to root it and give it a new firmware but will I lose my contacts which are integrated with facebook and all? I backed up a copy of it onto the sd card, but I'm not sure if it keeps the integration.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
provided you have synced with your gmail account, you should keep your contacts. you just log in once you boot up after flashing and your contacts will be refreshed
How do I know if I synced it to my gmail account? Does the backup to sd card function keep the integration with facebook?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
you could also move them to sd card and if they,re on sd csrd, u won't lose them and you would, they still would be in your nandroid backup and you could take them from there with appextracktor

Before you do anything BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP. Use titanium to backup your apps. To find out if your gmail is syncing your contacts go to settings - accounts and sync. You should clearly see if your gmail is syncing your contacts. When you flash a new rom it will ask you to enter your gmail. This will then sync all your contacts to your phone. When you get clockworkmod installed backup a full image of your phone so you wont lose anything. Goodluck!
Thanks for the help guys! Okay gonna see if its syncing but I'm more worried about the facebook integration because I don't want to repeat the tedious process of merging my contacts painstakingly again!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Ohh another question, erm I can see that my google account is under the list of things syncing, is there somewhere I can check the contacts whether they are saved correctly or not? Thanks guys!
