[Guide][MOD] How to Mod Espier Launcher - Optimus One, P500, V General

IT IS A BIT BIG BUT IT IS WORTH OF EFFORTS ADN VISIT http://supetawesomedude.deviantart.com/#/d4m2dq6 TO CHECK OUT THE END PRODUCT
WHAT THIS GUIDE IS FOR:
-How to change icons in espier launcher
-How to change page indicators
-How to change dock
-How to change notification bubble
-How to add custom icons (for apps not natively themed by espier launcher) RECENTLY EDITED
-How to install onto phone
A. Preliminary Steps:
1. Install apktool http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/
2. Create a directory called Espier launcher mod
3. Download Espier launcher http://dl.free.fr/pjgXgBDEb and rename to launcher.apk
4. Place Espier Launcher into that directory.
5. Open terminal.
6. Change terminal directory to your Espier launcher mod folder.
E.G. I ran this:
Code:
cd /home/gaurav/Desktop/Espier launcher mod
7. Decompile the apk.
Code:
apktool d launcher.apk
B. Changing basic icons.
**UPDATE**
Now, to prevent icons from being edited (in a bad way) by Espier Launcher, download this icon and place it in drawable-(h/m/l)dpi. This is crucial to prevent your icons from getting a weird white glow around them!
1. Open res/drawable-(hdpi/ldpi/mdpi/xhdpi) *depending on what screen size your phone is. I have an mdpi so i will go into drawble-mdpi
2. Change the desired icon
For example, the file
Code:
ic_com_android_camera_preparecamera.png
can be replaced by an image of the same (or similar) size. when you're done, it should look like:
http://uppix.net/4/1/e/c43d8a7bc3e1fe2aa29cd3792dbe5.png
3. Refer to Section G
C. Changing page indicators
1. Open res/drawable-mdpi
2. Find the file:
Code:
ic_screen_level_focus.png
ic_screen_level_normal.png
3. Replace these two files with desired ones
4. Open res/drawable-hdpi
5. Replace these files with desired images.
Code:
ic_screen_level_focus
ic_screen_level_normal.png
ic_screen_level_search_focus.png
ic_screen_level_search_normal.png
ic_screen_level_widget_focus.png
ic_screen_level_widget_normal.png
6. Refer to Section G.
D. How to change dock
1. Navigate to res/drawable-mdpi (in my case)
2. Find file called
Code:
toolbar.png
3. Replace with desired (make sure the dock image is correct size for your phone)
4. Refer to Section G.
E. How to change notification bubble.
1. Open res/drawable-mdpi
2. Find and replace with desired image
Code:
icon_shuzi1.png
3. Refer to Section G.
F. How to add custom icons
*Warning* This section is a lot more confusing. Please read carefully. *Warning*
1. Navigate to /res/values/arrays.xml
2. Now, it gets tricky.
3. Go this website http://activities.droidicon.com/
4. Search for an app. It should look like this:
Screenshot http://uppix.net/0/9/8/4f7817e4c48f07662595e19ec72e7.png
5. Now, in arrays.xml, scroll down until you see this type of coding
Screenshot http://uppix.net/8/0/e/a9cc14bdf96ecae1dbc6e3a31eed4.png
6. Get to the end of that "chunk" of xml.
7. Let's say we're theming the facebook app. So we add this to xml. (and fill it out with info)
Code:

ACTIVITY_OF_APP

DESCRIPTIVE_ACTIVITY_OF_APP

@drawable/NAME_OF_APP

For example:
Code:

com.facebook.katana

com.facebook.katana.LoginActivity

@drawable/facebook

You get the first line of info like this:
Screenshot http://uppix.net/8/0/e/a9cc14bdf96ecae1dbc6e3a31eed4.png
and the second:
Screenshot http://uppix.net/7/b/0/cb6a915df97299a2832be59e39841.png
in that third line of that xml we add (@drawable/NAME_OF_APP), you can name your app anything you want. i made it "facebook" in this case.
8. Save and exit.
9. Find a desired image for your application (in this case facebook).
10. Rename it to "NAME_OF_APP.png" in this case, "facebook.png"
11. Drop that file into drawable/mdpi
12. Repeat steps 1-11 for as many applications as you want to theme.
13. Refer to Section G.
G. How to install on your phone
1. First, save and close everything you're working on.
2. Open your terminal, and change its directory to the "espier launcher mod" folder
3. Type in
Code:
apktool b 'PATH_TO/espier launcher mod' 1.apk
4. Take that 1.apk, and sign it, using a program like ApkSigner http://android-softwares.blogspot.com/2011/08/apksigner-v04-sign-unsigned-android-apk.html
5. Connect your phone to your computer via USB.
6. Mount it as a mass storage device.
7. Transfer that signed.apk to the root of your sdcard.
8. Now on your phone, uninstall any current version of EspierLauncher you may have.
9. Then, using a file manager, install the signed.apk from your sdcard.

This too, should be in themes n apps...
Sent from my iPad 3 using XDA App

I can't save the output file with
apktool b 'PATH_TO/espier launcher mod' 1.apk

How to change the app Icons in your APP drawer(This will be tricky, but if youre bored. Have at it)
The icons themselves are stored inside the individual apk files. You need to open each one, swap out the icon and reassemble it. It's not nearly as hard as it sounds.
1. Tools you need -
- 7zip
Download the appropriate version for your PC. Don't grab the beta.
- The original copy of the Fresh ROM you used to flash your phone.
- The icons you want to change.
2. Create a working folder on your PC.
3. Using 7zip, open the Fresh ROM zip file. Navigate to the system/app folder inside the ROM. Highlight ALL the .apk files, and drag them into your working folder. Close the Fresh ROM zip file.
4. Decide on which icon you want to change first. I'll use the Browser as an example.
5. Use 7zip to open the Browser.apk you pulled out of the Fresh ROM. Once open, look for the res/drawable folder inside the apk.
6. Inside that folder, look for an .png file named ic_launcher_browser.png . That's the icon that the app uses.
7. Have your new icon ready. It should be 48x48 and a .png file. Make sure it's named ic_launcher_browser.png .
8. Drag the NEW icon into the open 7zip window that's showing the res/drawable folder. Choose yes if it asks you about overwriting the original file.
9. Close 7zip.
The Browser app has now been changed and will show your new icon in the drawer, and on the homescreen if you paste a shortcut. Do the same for each of the apps you want to change the icon of. The icon will always be in /res/drawable, and be named ic_launcher_ **app name**.png
Once you have changed all the icons, you'll have a set of apk files with your new icons. You can push these to the phone one by one from the terminal, or you can create your own update.zip
To push them to the phone (once again Browser.apk will be our example)
1. In your Android SDK/tools folder, make a new folder called icons.
2. Copy the Browser.apk file to the folder you just created.
3. Open the windows command prompt, and navigate to the Android SDK/tools folder. NOT the new folder you just made.
4. Enter the following commands one line at a time:
Code:
adb remount
adb push \icons\Browser.apk /system/app/Browser.apk
5. Do the same for each of the apk files you edited, changing the name Browser.apk to the name of the file you're pushing to the phone.
6. Reboot the phone.
To create your own ROM to flash them.
1. Attached is a file called META-INF.zip . Download it. Open with 7zip and drag the META-INF folder into your working folder.
2. Inside your working folder, make a new folder called system. Inside it, create a folder called app. Move all the edited apk files into this folder.
3. Highlight the system folder, and the META-INF folder you copied over and right click. Choose 7zip->create archive. Make sure it's a zip archive, and name it icons-eclair-fresh.zip . When it's finished, open it and make sure the directory structure matches your working folder. All the apks need to be in system/app/, and there needs to be a META-INF/com/google/android/update-script. Nothing else should be inside the zip file.
4. Download the second attachment named signing-tools.zip. Create a folder on your PC named sign_tools, and copy the three files in the zip to the new folder.
5. Copy the icons-eclair-fresh.zip file and place a copy in the sign_tools folder.
6. Open the terminal, and go to the sign_tools folder. Type the following command in the terminal:
Code:
java -jar signapk.jar testkey.x509.pem testkey.pk8 icons-eclair-fresh.zip icons-signed.zip
7. That will create a new zip file named icons-signed.zip. Open it, and look inside the META-INF folder. You will see 3 RSA keys along with the com folder. That means you're done.
Copy the new icons-signed.zip file to your SD card. Reboot into recovery. DON'T FORGET TO DO A NEW BACKUP BEFORE YOU CONTINUE! Flash your file without wiping. Enjoy your new icons, and congrats. You're now an Android developer.

hey you got anything on editing the notification tray? I can't seem to find any good guide.
Kinda tricky to do this, and only works on De Odexed ROMs so I didnt wanna put it in OP, but I guess I can, I'll just put a warning
There are a few ways to do it, but heres the easiest way to theming
http://circle.glx.nl/
the status bar is an image found in framework-res.apk /res/drawable-hdpi/
statusbar_background.png - status bar image. change it in photoshop to what you like. it's not a "color," so you can change the image to have a shadow, a design, whatever you like.
just keep in mind that if you make it transparent..it may not work well with other apps on your phone (i.e. you'll see the apps background through the bar on top, not always a good thing!
dont confuse it with status_bar_background.png, which is the background file for your notification drawer

[TUTORIAL] How to Theme Galaxy Ace

This is a guide on how to theme your galaxy ace.
If you do not have the basic knowledge of cmd and folders handling, don't try.
*Not for the faint-hearted*
1. Root is prerequisite. If you're using stock rom, you can obtain cf-root from here.
2. Install android sdk from here. Eclipse is optional. The essential stuff we need is the adb from the sdk.
3. Please make a backup using cwm in case you end up deleting or corrupting your phone.
4. Connect your phone to the pc.
5. Open cmd and type cd C:\android\tools . (Depends on where is your sdk tools folder)
6. type adb pull /system/app/SystemUI.apk (Status Bar Modding)
7. type adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk (Framework Modding)
8. type adb pull /system/framework/twframework-res.apk (Twframework)
9. Alright, now edit the .apk to .zip in your tools folder.
10. Open up the zip and replace the mdpi files inside with the one you prepared.
11. After all the changes, change the .zip back to .apk
12. Open cmd and type cd C:\android\tools . (Depends on where is your sdk tools folder)
13. type adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app/SystemUI.apk
14. type adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
15. type adb push twframework-res.apk /system/framework/
16. Reboot your phone.
17. Voilà! See the changes
Editing the images:
What are .9.png files?
I won't be using this type of image in this tutorial but I wanted to touch on it for users who want to edit these images.
A NinePatchDrawable graphic is a stretchable bitmap image, which Android will automatically resize to accommodate the contents of the View in which you have placed it as the background. An example use of a NinePatch is the backgrounds used by standard Android buttons — buttons must stretch to accommodate strings of various lengths. A NinePatch drawable is a standard PNG image that includes an extra 1-pixel-wide border. It must be saved with the extension .9.png in your project so it can be compiled when you build your project. This page has a nice explanation of what is required.
If you have decompiled the package (you should have if you followed the tutorial), you will see that the .9.png files have a 1 pixel transparent border with a few 100% black pixels around. You can modify them directly and the border will disappear when you compile the package again. If you haven't decompiled the package, you will see regular images, but modifying them will cause different problems as they will not stretch correctly and might cause incompatibility issues. This method is used as some of us do not have ubuntu or linux, saving the trouble installing them.

[TOOL][WINDOWS][.PNG][.9.PNG] Android Drawable Resizer Tool

The sorce
Can you count how many times you created a drawable for your app?
The answer is probably NO.
You opened your favorite image-editing software, designed a beautiful drawable, saved, and now of course, there's the simple but annoying thing, of resizing the drawable to fit every density.
No more! Android Drawable Resizer, replaces you in the last annoying part.
All you have to do, is to choose a drawable, tell the software which density does it belong to, choose the the res folder, and press Go!. The software will know how and where to place each resized drawable, with the correct name.
Requirements:
If you don't have a .NET Framework installed, download and install this:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa496123
Instructions:
1. Download the zip file.
2. Extract it including the .dll file.
3. Run the .exe file.
*Note: Both files need to be in the same place in order to activate the program!
4. Choose the source drawable density
5. Choose the drawable you want to resize
6. Choose which densities you want to export to
7. Choose mode: Auto placing, and choosing the res folder as a destination directory OR Manual placing, and choosing any folder as a destination. all the selected densities will export there.
8. Press Go!
9. Enjoy!

Product Sans?

Hello,
Anyone knows if it's possible to get Google Product Sans preferably without rooting or flashing anything? That'd be really great! Thanks in advance!
There is an easy way!
1. Download the attached file and rename .zip to .hwt
2. Copy to Sdcard/Huawei/Themes
3. Restart
4. Opens themes app and select customize -> Fonts. Select the font.
This is not my own work. Venom007 has a thread about this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/themes-apps/noroot-font-styles-updated-02-09-16-t3453559
It doesn't work
It doesn't work. Followed all the steps rigorously and it doesn't appear in the fonts. I'm on a Mate 20 Lite on android 8.1 with emui 8.2, could you please tell me how to make it work? thx. I just noticed its a theme itself, but can't apply it, could you tell me to set it only as a font? not as a theme.
I fixed that, you have to download any font from the Huawei store, then the system creates a new folder named HWfonts, now you go on this folder, and copy the name of the font you have download from the store, now you put this name to the font u want to import, exactly the .ffs file, now you move it to the HWfonts folder and replace the store's font.
Sorry for my explaining I don't know much English...
Basically, you make product sans the theme. Then go to customise, you will see that it is now a text style aswell. So you switch the lock screen style to whatever you want. And the text style will remain product sans. Hope that helped.

Download, unzip, place the .hwt file in Huawei/Themes on your internal card.
Go to Me in the theme app, select my text. And you will see it. Apply, done!
Go to Settings > Home screen & wallpaper > Themes > scroll to bottom to find Product Sans > Select > APPLY
Fix fonts. Settings > Home screen & wallpaper > Icons > Select EMUI 11 default fonts > APPLY
