[Q] Do OTAs work for US units in other countries? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hello there!
I just received my USA Transformer Prime (I am from Spain) and in 10 minutes or so I couldn't get it to see any OTA. Do USA OTAs work out of USA or do you have to connect from a USA IP?
Thank you very much

I would say this is something you should be able to tell us soon

Dont worry, it should update. I have a US prime but I live in the UAE and I am on .13 now...and hope to get .14 soon! The first update came just a day after I switched it on.

Technically you can. Here is how:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492887
That being said, I DO NOT recommend this method because you don't know how it might affect future OTAs. Honestly .13 was more or less a beta test and .14 just got release which fixes a lot of the problems in .13 so just wait a couple of days.

It doesn't seem to get any OTAs. I started in Honeycomb and it never told me to update, so I followed Gary Key's instructions ad updated manually via MicroSD. Now I am running .13.
Manual updates work perfectly, but it seems OTA doesn't. I hope they release .14 on the web soon (as I don't want to force update via blob just yet)
Thanks!

It works fine here in the UK.

I bought my TP in USA and i live in Argentina(South America). I downloaded all the other OTAs with no problem.

Well ever if it isn't released Friday in the UK i'm sure you can update via odin or CWM once a copy becomes available on here.

Seems to depend on when you bought it, still no notification for me.
Did you try manually checking for it in the settings? When it was released in the US some people didn't get notifications and had to check manually.
same here...manual check said no update for your device...
wait and see...could not be long any more
MrLee
same problem here.... no update...
Still no update here...
weird, mine updated at 4am this morning. 32GB+dock from redcoon, BCOKAS06XXXX.
Did you get it through pre-order or in some physical shop? The TP is still impossible for me to find in Germany.
I got the ICS update this morning!
Preordered it on Nov. 17 from Amazon Germany and got it on Jan. 5.
I had it rooted before the upgrade and it upgraded without any problems.
Can't look up my serial number, because i'm at work now...

still not in the netherlands
A few received OTA in India last week - Europe normal gets the rollout about a week - 10 after the US, atleast going by past updates.
Changed region to India and no action at all. India is in ST006 so NZ AUS Hong Kong etc would get at the same time.... Going by past updates anyway. ICS original came through at 11pm local time for me which was 2pm Hong Kong (I think).
My guess is that the people in India had changed theirs to US or had US tabs....
Also could not find a URL for this, hence changing to India region.
I agree with the roll out, everyone had ICS within the end of the next month (May). So wasn't too bad

Thanks for the replies...
I guess its not yet available in india mayb many of them have chaanged their region to usa so they are getting the update since mine is an unrooted tab I havnt got the update when I checked in the system update

got my tablet in India but I live in USA. Will I get the update when it is available for Indian customers(or will I have to somehow connect to their Indian server)? Theoretically I should but because of a very bad experience with Sony recently I am just not sure. Can anyone tell me that?

I really dunno y americans are always lucky in everything related to updates....and remaining countries will have no clue wen they wil get it....but always wait n watch for months
sony support
I contacted sony support and they confused the hell out of me. Made me format my tab.
I contacted them through a contact on phone and they actually said that it is a global update and i should be able to update it so thought that my tab was abandoned because some kind of lack of contact to Indian servers. This thread told confirmed my suspicion that it was not not a global launch.
Thank you for that. The support is bad to say the least.

US prime changed to WW after RMA

Hi all,
I bought my prime a year ago in the states, it was from the famous BCOKAS series, which never received any OTA updates due to the missing serial number issue. Manual updates worked until jelly bean, which totally bricked it, I got it fixed via RMA. The catch is that RMA was in Europe, and when I got my prime back, it was loaded with the "WW epad..." firmware version. Now I'd like to update from .15 to .18, but still not getting OTA. If I try manually, should I download the WW update or the US one?
Thanks!

Same thing happened to me after RMA (BCOKAS) - when I bought it I had WW version, but after RMA I got US version.
With a new SKU I also got well-known serial issue so I couldn't receive OTAs anymore, and unlock tool didn't work.
Since then I'm using US manual updates as I really don't see any difference between those two.

The main difference is the amount of wifi channels. The WW version has more available up the higher end.

Yes, that's right, but when I was on WW SKU my prime couldn't see any wireless network above 11th channel (stock version)...
Indeed, WW update worked. Thanks!

Question About updates

hello everyone, I thought that samsumg sent updates at the same time to everyone, but my surprise is greater when I see that Europe has updates and not in Latin America, my question is then what can I expect with this, that is, will I have updates every three months? I understand that if I change the firmware there may be some regions where it is faster, but then I lose functions like volte and vowifi? It's my first Samsung, I'm waiting for an answer for dummies since I don't know anything, thanks

Updates are staged from region to region, just in case there is a major problem with the update so that it does not affect every region to which the update is delivered to. Furthermore, if one's phone is through a carrier, the delivery of that update will be delayed in order for the carrier to tailor it to their network (normally just a week or two these days).

Hello, thank you for your answer, the device is free, it is not an operator, it has the region and continuation of my country, that is, could I expect it to take two weeks to receive the update? It's just that I heard from people who said that it took up to two months to receive an update, is that false?
I'm in the USA and have not gotten the update either, i wouldn't worry to much it will drop soon.

South Korea gets the update 1st. Then it's sent out to other countries but even if it was sent to your country, your carrier may delay the update for any reason. Samsung is better with updates but expect 1-2 months per update for devices 1-3 years old. Devices older than that I'm not sure.
I'm in the USA and I was getting 1 update almost every month on my S22U around 1 week after it was received in Europe.
(I received the February update yesterday about 1 week after it was received in Europe)
Got mine today in USA for Unlocked
Got it today too on unlocked running two MVNOs, Boost Infinite (AT&T) and Tello (T-Mobile). I was amazed how quickly the update was done too lol
