Hi all.
I need some help and advice.
Being new to phone tinkering i dont want to do it wrong first time round.
My SE X10i is currently running gingerbread 2.3.3 but its rooted.
I would like help putting my phone on something better as the internets slow and lags a lot.
Im happy to try anything to make this phone as it could be or should be.
I dont know what rom to use or kernel as this is my first time doing anything to any phone.
AS you can guess im asking as i dont want to brick my phone on the first attempt.
If this is in the wrong place i applogise now.
Thanks if you can help.
I hate being a noob at something.
I can give more info if needed.
Thx wraith36
The internet will be always laggy. Very smooth browser is opera mobile. However the stock ROM itself is very laggy. I would recommend you to install some custom ROM. If you already have rooted phone it will be very easy to change the ROM. Just install xrecovery via flashtool (when the phone is turned on) and download ROM you want. Every ROM thread will have an exact installation guide. P. S. If you want to change kernel you have to unlock bootloader.
I could send you some necessary files to do that and guide you through unlocking the bootloader and the ROM change.
Just choose the ROM you want to have
Use this tool forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415600
Thanks for the help jakuburban
I will have a look into the ROM's and see what's what.
Do you recommend any.
I used FlashTool_0.2.9.1-GBready_root_xRec to root my phone, is that right?
I did the loader part with this and the kernel part also with FlashTool.
Well I hope I have.
You can send me what you think might help.
Beggars cant be choosers as they say.
And I need all the help I can be given or find.
And thx for you help with this.

Root the Device Install Xrecovery and CWM from the tool
and then u can decide on what Roms to Update...
Oh, You've done already almost everything. Now You just have to install xRecovery and choose which kind of ROM would You like> MIUI or a stock based ROM.
MIUI is a little bit slower but it has more options like themes etc
Stock based ROM looks almost like the stock ROM but this is the fastest one
MIUI I am using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377633
Stock based ROM I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399040
After You downloaded flashable ROM You have to enter the xRecovery and flash it.
INFO: When changing to MIUI erase the data
OK I got all the info you have posted.
How do I add xRecovery
Do I download that to and install it or is that in my phone already?
I'm a noob at this.
Sorry if im slow at this.

OK jakuburban.
I downloaded what you said.
I've tryed to see if xRecovery will highlite itself but it never.
So now i need to try the other method.
OK jakuburban xRecovery installed now.
When I choose a ROM do I need to choose one that suite's we I am, IE in the UK?
Or can I choose any as long as it's in english?
Up to now things are going OK seeing I've not done this kind of thing before.
Thx for understanding.

No You don't have to use any commands. (but You can If You want to have it more difficult )
the file I've sent You contains folder named system.
in system are folders called bin and xbin.
Get into bin folder and copy the files (with root explorer) to Your /system/bin/*here the files
That's what I meant with bin/ > system/bin/
After that do the same with the xbin folder
Sorry I updated my last post to say I have xRecovery installed now.
My fault for the confusion

So when I change ROM do I also change the KERNEL or is that not necessarie.

Most of the ROM's should work with the stock kernel, but I would suggest You to stick to the KERNEL the developers are suggesting. For me the best ROM is Doomkernel, because it works with MIUI and a stock ROM and also has overclocking
So the link you gave at the start for MIUI will that have the KERNEL with it or separate?
Sorry to bug you with all this.
I apologise for it now.

No, it won't. Most of the times if You will be able to boot into xRecovery, however if You delete to much it could just stuck. But then You can use SEUS, it worked always for me, or flashtool.
jakuburban which do I install first the kernel or the rom.
Do I use the flash tool I used at the start to root the phone.
Once I know that I guess I can start.

ALso for extras, i am wanting to install Jereplea's cm 7.0.2 (2.3.3) ROM, but it is in .,rar format, so i cannot flash it via xrecovery. I'm not sure how to use flashtool, as it needs some .ftf file that i cannot find, and it will not allow me to flash.
Didn't you made a backup with xrec? Restore if you did. If not, install again 2.1 rom. You can find tft files in the first post of Flashtool thread.
About J's CM7, maybe the zip is in the rar file. Just extract it.

I backed up with titanium root,
Yeh, i'll try that
TY
Btw, how do you flash baseband 52?
Its needed for J's CM7 rom.
I can find firmware stuff, but i dont know exactly how to make a .ftf thing.
OK, titanium backup is not the same. It makes backup of apps, not the whole rom.
You can slash firm .504, it comes with bb 52.
Download the tft, put it in /firmware forlder of flashtool (on the computer). Then start fashtool, connect x10 and hit Flash button, choose the tft file and go on.

wow... this is wrong information/ some of it anyway.
first.... 435. comes with .54bb not 52. second. be more helpful and not give links he has to chase around....
flash tool is very easy to use once you have it installed... if you still have recovery dont flash a fresh install of a 2.1 your wasting time.
if revoery works. download the winrar program for the cwm file that you want to install. its like winzip slightly differnet. it will then give you the flashable zip you want. most likely it is named updat.zip. put that on your sd card.
if you need the .52bb yes it is included in the folder with the rom. it is in tft format already... drop that into the firmware folder where you have flashtool located. then simply click on flash.. it will show the .52 files there will be several.
if they are not there... click on the advanced tab and scroll to bottom where it says bundle creation click on it and find the tft file you inserted into the firmware folder and when it opens the window up. drag all files from left to right and name the open spots at the top right. when done flash.
after that... reboot into recovery locate your zipfile for cm7 and let it install. voila your done
My bad. .504 is with bb 52. Thanks for correction.

Hey guys, my eng is fine.
Regarding CM7,
it doesnt seem to have any signal or phoning abilities
no mac, or bluetooth address or anything.
:/
SOmetimes with random reboots.
EDIT:
I have all basic copies of roms and i have access to recovery, SO I AM NOT A NOOBIE THANKU!
I appreciated your correction about the firm. Thats alright. In his second post, he said that he got only a backup from TB, not from xrec. That's why I told him to flash new 2.1.
The way you are explaining the other things is even harder for me to understand what you are trying to say. (And beleave me I understand allot of Android and X10) So for him maybe will be harder to understand about all that zips and stuff.
Me not trying to be rude neither. Lets see if we helped the guy or we got him confused

OK, you've flashed CM7 over bb 52 right? The one provided by J in his package?
i suppose your right... there are some things i read that seem more difficult than they are and i also have read things that seem easy and are hard as hell.

G-face... wasnt trying to be rude to you either with same comment
Jinglejo, good to know that your not a noob. might be a little easier to help you out beings it looks like you know whats up with your x10...
if i was to break it down in steps 1234....
1. Recovery works.... thats good
2. unrar the cwm file that you downloaded.
the tft files for bb .52 are included
3. take that file and drop it into firmware
4. open flashtool and click on advanced.... scroll down to bundle creation...
locate the file... is should read x10_52_changebaseband
5.once selected. a new window wil pop up. the files will be in .sin format now....
highlight all and drag to the box on the right.... top three boxes have to be filled in..
6.select ok and wait for files to be ready.
7. when done. click on flash...select firmware .52... hit ok..... wait till you are prompted to connect in flash mod... then connect and wait.
8. when done, reboot and wait for signal to appear..
9. once you have signal, reboot into recovery.
10. clear dalvik-cache, battery stats.
11. install your cm7 from J.
12. let us now if any of this works for you.
Im not confused, its just it says the baseband is unknown
So do i flash in the baseband 52?
J only gave us this bunch of .sin files and
Rendeiro gave a broken link to baseband 52.ftf that does not download properly.
Can you find me a link for it or tell me how to bunch up these .sin files to form a .ftf file?

yes flash in the bb .52.
locate the .sin files from where you have them stored and go to advanced and do bundle creation.
i was being stupid when i said it was in tft format ( my apologies) they are in .sin
once you have done a bundle creation it turns it into a tft then when you choose the file from flashtool. it shows them again as .sin
flash this and you should be good to go with radio
Disregard the other comment,

im not sure if that rom coms with devtools installed or not...
however if it does... open it up go to bad behavior. and click on crash system server...
if not... you may have to go with G's option and start fresh with a new install..
in that case if you have to do that... right after flashing the 435 firmware... root it, install recovery, power down... flash bb 52 then install the rom.
after that it should work fine without problems

Dear all,
I recently bought an LGP500 and im lovin it..!!!! Came across this forum and found that there are heaps of developments thats taking place in this platform! Really wanna thank each and everyone for their time and effort in trying to improvise on the OS.
I came across [UNOFFICIAL][ROM][stable:6.5.5,testing:6.6] CyanogenMod 7.1-RC1 (Android 2.3.4) and i really want to install it (or in that case, and good GB OS) over my froyo. I have been through a lot of threads on flashing and rooting, but im still very unclear about the whole process. Im not a computer geek, and all these jargon kinda make me feel like a bozo .
As a last resort, im trying out this thread. Would really appreciate if someone could spare some time and provide a simple walkthrough from - (a) backing up the original OS, (b) on through flashing and rooting, (c) to installing this custom ROM and (d) finally restoring it if needed for warranty purposes. Im pretty sure there are a lot of people like me who has difficulty in understanding all these processes and missing out some great developments.
I hope everyone understands this and wont consider this as one of those spam/duplicate threads, where the same Qs are repeated again and again...!
Thanks a lot for any support
Yes, the same Q's are repeated yet again. But I'm in a good mood today and I'll try not to give you much flak for it.
1. Root your phone, use z4root if android v2.2, use gingerbreak (both are apps) if on v2.2.1/2.2.2.
2. Install a custom recovery, of two kinds: AmonRa or ClockworkMod. Search for these threads.
3. Boot into recovery mode for backing up your current rom and installing a new one.
I hope this is a good summary. Before asking any further questions, check out the FAQ link in my signature.
Also read some stickies to enhance your knowledge. The_error has made a very good introduction thread on technical stuff.
In android, for using custom roms, first thing is to root. Then one has to install a recovery. Then make a nandroid backup from recovery. Then wipe everything from recovery and then flash your desired rom.
I suggest you do this:
1. Instal z4root app from market and Root your phone via it.
2. Install rom manager from market.
3. Install clockwork mod recovery via it.
Now you can go to recovery via rom manager or swith off and press and hold for about 15-30 seconds home+volume down+ power button.
Once you are in recovery, you are free to fly.
so which will be the most stable rom (no over clocking) for smooth usage, simple ui, internet and good video playback support. I herd there is problem with some roms not being able to play divx files.
I say rjtchn`s cm7 has the best battery I've had
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
I can't find either z4root or Gingerbreak in the market. Searching XDA Developers I see several versions of z4root floating around, but since my Optimus V is 2.2.1, I gather I should be using Gingerbreak anyway? Pointers to the correct APK appreciated. Otherwise if I should be going the ADB route, pointers to a thread that has working drivers for the O V linked would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
OK, to answer my own Question, latest version (that I have tested works) of Gingerbreak is at:

Now to figure out which kernel or rom to go with...

hey i am a noob and can't understand what to do with those softwares which are mentioned above, is there any step by step guide from starting to end??
any help would be highly appreciable
ok..i am a noob too.. so what all guys are saying is that, let me simplify:
There are basically 3 steps,
first, install a "gingerbreak" app, which is a apk (u can copy it ur mem.card and using file manager (its default in your stock android), u can install it from ur android after copying
secondly, install ROM Manager Free from Market and Install ClockworkMod Recovery from that app(dont fret about technical names..just do it), its easy as click and download
thirdly, download the Custom ROM like Mik's CM7 6.5.6 or something that pleases you and copy the necessary files posted in the Custom ROM'S page, all will be zip files...and restart the phone , By pressing vol.up+home+power button..u Will get to a different screen(that is recovery) , and make a nandroid backup as everyone says(all options are seen in the recovery) ...then clear cache..clean anything and everything..then install zip file from sd card...choose the Custom ROM and Restart (and lastly , forgot to tell you ,navigate by presssing volume keys and menu key as ok button)
..ok...maybe its not simple as it looks,,once you try..it will be easy as taking candy from a baby, thanks to all the guides and developers and all the ppl that supports it.
There are further step by step tutorials , if u search for it.. i was confused as hell too.. dont worry, U Will get the hang of it Noobz

you should really follow the instructions on the rom of your choice, but ill just give you the general scope of things:
1. root phone using one of the methods found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
2. after rooting, flash custom recovery:
http://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/221388-custom-recovery-optimus-one-p500-thunderg.html
3. download rom of your choice from the link in #1 and move it to the root of your sdcard (which is directory /sdcard)
(3.5 you can use titanium backup to backup your apps. the sdcard should stay untouched while you flash your phone but im pretty sure that your internal memory will be erased. i didnt do this and i lost all of my apps so i dont really know where this step should go but i think it belongs here. there should be a folder on your phone with those backed up apps. move that folder to your computer. i didnt do this so im not sure if this is how it goes, sorry. btw this is optional.)
4. boot into recovery (with your phone off, hold home+vol down+power)
5. make a nandroid backup
6. wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache (follow the instructions on the rom that you chose)
7. flash (your rom name).zip
8. reboot phone (might take a while, thats normal)
the following is if you backed up your apps earlier:
9. move the folder with your apps backed up back to your phone in the exact same directory it was
10. restore it with titanium backup
someone please confirm this.
thanx guys

hey it shows 1233 on benchmark,,,is it overclocked or at 600mhz?
Excuse me if this is explained anywhere and I'm just to dumb to find it, Forum Search didn't get me the answer:
I come from the Galaxy S and wanted to install a more featered ROM to my gilrfriends mini pro since I bought it to her and she saw me doing rom stuff on my phone, but only in the last time I read of fully working ROMS (last thing was the cam) because I didn't want her to bother (me) with stuff not working
Now I wanted to install SonyBread, but I'M stuck at installing CWM... I used the apk installer, and the flash tool, but nothing works, CWM nor xrecovery is booting when I hit the back key at SE logo. When I'm searching for the chargemon file, there seems to be the right one there (code says so) and recovery.tar is present. Phone is definetly rooted!
What am I doing wrong? Is it just I'm too into the Galaxy S and just can't see the obvious? And why can't I find a clean install guide for CWM to 2.1.1.C.0.0? Most ROMS say they are for this firmware and have to be installed through CWM, so there MUST be a way..
I hope this is not a to dumb question (but I really didn't find any help through search) and someone can help me, thanks in advance
first Xrecovery via AAIS (search XDA) then install cwm via xrecovery. It's really simple, trust me
use flashtool 0.2.9.1 beta to root and install busybox & xrecovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10738287
then flash cwm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105745
I've tried both, nothing works. I get xRecovery, but as soon as I flash CWM, I cant get into it...
I tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105745. I press the back button repeadetly, but nothing happens for CWM...
I also tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106146 as it looks like its specificly for mini pro, but it needs CWM to install... how am I supposed to install CWM only through CWM?? This makes no sense to me I even tried the manual copy method from this side, but it seems that CWM doesent recognize the back key pressed...
I dont know whats the problem, maybe I try to recover through SEUS and start everything over on a fresh firmware, maybe some testing messed something up.
I cant find any information, if I have to do anything else for 2.1.1.C.0.0 firmware, maybe I have to edit something for chargemon?

Thanks for your help, and maybe the next time its necessary, I'll try this 2.1.1.Clean.0.0 firmware. Sounds like Darky's Resurrection Edition for my Galaxy S, and this ALWAYS worked
nice to hear you solved it, congrats
Hi
I'm looking at editing the 3 uk Ics ftf file. I'm a complete noob but would love to give it a go!
My aim is to remove all bloatware and ugly boot screen and replace with something a bit nicer... Could anyone point me in the right direction for finding the information?
Do you understand you won't be able to flash it with a locked bootloader?

Even if he has a locked bootloader he can use the new exploit to obtain root without unlocked bootloader. It works! And i have customized my bootanimation and removed bloatware etc.
The only thing you can't do yet is to install custom ROM's.
Here is the tutorial:

Hi
Yeah i have unlocked, rooted & installed CMW on my phone, I just don't know where to start with editing ftf files....
I have the 3 uk ics rom installed & removed all of the bloatware also changed the battery icon. I am just looking for a decent boot logo, but once i have completed the editing on my phone is it possible to create a ftf file or do i need to edit the original file? thx
You can just create a new ftf using flashtool, but I still can't figure out why you need it when you have CWM backups.

Just do a backup in recovery. It'll be in the clockworkmod folder on your sdcard. You can copy it to your PC just in case. When you need to restore, just put it back and restore in recovery. You'll even get all your apps and data back.
Hi I am a complete noob, so far I only managed to unlock bootloader and it took me almost WHOLE DAY. I want to root my phone, I have no tiniest clue on how to do it for Xperia Go. There are so many methods for other phones I am getting so confused over this. People don't seem to want to help noobs out too much here I noticed, and often "use search" is being said. Well, I did use search and A LOT, still I can't even find how to get started I don't know which suitable apps I need (there's so many, I have no idea).
Model: Xperia Go st27i
Version: 6.0.B.3.184
I found this thread (Sony Xperia GO property root for 6.0.B.3.184 + CWM recovery v5.5.0.4) is this the thing I should be looking if I want to root my phone? All I see here is that he shows what commands to input, with no tutorial at all. I have no idea where to enter these commands, where to unpack files -_- nothing.
I am really hoping some good person helps me out on this one
I have given up, nobody helps me, no tutorials help and nothing works... I tried SuperOneClick for rooting, it didn't work. I tried the dos app from thread "Root MANY ANDROID!" also did not work. I did not try the link from my OP cause that thread has absolutely 0 tutorials and too much chit chatting in comments.
tl;dr nothing works for rooting my xgo
use flashtool to root if nothing works..
Try to find in sola development section
Thanx me if it helped!

Ok, first things that you need to check:
- Do you have installed Sony oficial "Sony PC Companion" software?
- are your phone recognised by your computer after installing oficiall "Sony PC Companion" software?
Next step:
- Are you unlocked your bootloader (here is how to)
.... yes I have PC companion and unlocked bootloader

Ok, lets go. First thing: what error message you have by running "install.bat" from my rom thread? Please copy whole log from your "black screen" window and post it here.

1. Yes my phone is recognized by PC companion. Do I have to keep PC companion running?
2. I don't see any install.bat, I told that I didn't try anything from this thread because I can't follow anything written there

You have now installed Gingerbread! But, you must choose what you want to install! You have options: Gingerbread, stock ICS, or custom ICS, or MIUI, or other roms...etc. Chose one rom first!

The most confusing thing right now is, do I have to update my phone by PC companion first? Or I can download v14 rom (Firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54) and flash it on as it is? It confuses me cause I wanna be sure that I download the right thing not the wrong one -_-
Thanks for all your replies, at least I am moving somewhere now
Yes, download v14 rom, extract archive, run instal.bat, folow instructions on your screen!

Thank you so much for supporting me here, I am downloading it and will follow the instructions. One last question for now.... if I install this rom, is my phone already rooted then?
Yes, after installing v14 rom and after installing (later) memory_tweak, your phone will be up to date (mean everything needed) ! Only your last step need to be: install superuser from market (mean superuser, not super su !), and you are done! Going now to my work, will help you later if something missing

Okay I have done a mistake LOL. I forgot to place rom.zip on sdcard. Can I flash it back to GB somehow and finish this ICS install after I place the zip there. I can't see my phone in windows and PC companion can't detect it either.
So right now I only have recovery mode, and no zip on sdcard
In Recovery, go to Mounts and Storage, USB Storage and select Mount. Then connect phone to pc and you can access like a pendrive
