[How To] Enable Custom Boot Animation (1.4.0 +1.4.1) - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Here is a simple fix to enable custom bootanimation
Steps:
1. flash the attached zip using CWM
2. copy your favorite bootanimation.zip to /system/media folder and set permission to 644 (all read, top write)
3. reboot
Notes:
1. Make sure you use the correct zip or you'll end up in bootloop
2. 1.4.1 fix requires change to the kernel (boot.img), so please do a CWM backup first and do it at your own risk

I have succesfully changed boot animation in CM7 alpha with rom toolkit from Google Market. There are over 50 animations to choose from. Maybe you can figure out a script to add these to stock rom or will they flash over wifhout bootloop?

Thanks but this Rom Manager I can find from market.
I'm referring to the Rom Toolkit that c64 mentioned which has 50 bootanimations. That I can't find.

Transition Animations for All

OK here ya go I tried to test these as best I could but as always USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I would NAND Backup if I didn't want to have to reflash my ROM (like that was ever an issue).
This uses D.O.C. theme engine so they can be flashed on virtually ANY ROM.
Big thanks to Snuzzo as well THANKS
I tested them the best that I could.

One thing you might need to adjust your animation speeds in /settings/Developer Options/Window Animation Scale & Transition Animation Scale.
Not much else to say other then ENJOY!
Don't forget to hit the Thanks button if you like..
Remember guys, these will not work with TWRP.

Is there a workaround for this, other than flashing another recovery? Maybe extract, copy, paste in file explorer?

Unfortunately none that i'm aware of.. other than to extract the ROM, open framework-res.apk (7zip) copy the XMLs from the attached zip into the apk.

Nope. No workaround. Also with vrtheme, if you want your old animations back, there is a folder created as "vrtheme-backup" on your sd card. These could potentially work on nearly any ICS rom.

Thanks guys, that sucks. Any idea why things are so finicky with the recoveries? My inc and tbolt were mules, that got raped and pillaged regularly with everything i could possibly think of, the x2 and rezound are stubborn and finicky, and put up one Hell of a fight with my crack flashing and constant amateur modding attempts

I use AmonRa 3.15 and flashed VRThemes before so I'm not sure what went wrong.
There's a framework-res.apk in that folder and that's it.
I restored my backup, re-downloaded the file, flashed again, it says successful but my phone is still stuck at the HTC screen.

only "work around" for it would be to extract the framework-res.apk from your system/framework directory.
place it on your pc, use 7zip to explore the apk with out opening it and drop the "anim" folder into the apk where the old one is.
then push apk back to phone.

That's really not hard at all. I might have to include one of these in my next ROM.

[Jellybean Framework/Transition Mod][CM9]

You'll need: FXP CM9 rom.zip
a working brain
WinRAR
Open the FXP.zip
navigate to /system/framework
replace the framework-res.apk with the apk in the attachment below
put the zip file into sd card
flash it via recovery
no need for wipe or anything
Will it work on stock rom?
Can't we just replace the framework-res.apk using Root explorer?
Can we have screenshots?

I think it'll do it (cause flashing it via CWM is also just replacing the original with the new one)
If not, you can access your internal Memory with ADB even in bootloop!
(Only with CyanogenMod)
FAQ
1.Will it work on stock ROM? -------- No.
2. Can't we just replace the framework-res.apk using Root explorer? --------- No.Just like replacing systemui.apk,if you replace it with root explorer, you'll have to flash the rom again, because it'll cause bootloop (Maybe) JUST TO BE SAFE.
3.Can we have screenshots? ------- it's an animation...SCREENSHOTS?

You can't really screenshot a transition
I installed it on FXP147 CM9 on XPERIA P.
It will boot loop if you hit replace
If you first rename the ''nameoffile".apk as "nameoffile".apk.bak, then the dialog won't repeat nameoffile has stopped working
So just dont replace Rename old file
Just rename it as.apk.bak copy your new apk, longpress on new apk>properties>set permissions 'rw-r--r--'
If in case your device is in bootloop, reboot to recovery and set permissions
If it's still in bootloop then either the file is not of your phone(apk might be say of sxp which you pasted on sxu) then you gotta go for restoring back up or flashing Rom

Lost root?

Rooted last night. Flashed the stock, deodexed Rom, Flashed a couple of mods like the camera mod, transparent Rosie, and the 50 gb dropbox mod. I used root explorer last night and it asked for root permission, now today it says I have to root permission. Any of these mods break root?

anyone?
Ok...a little more information here. I flash FactoryRom debloat final, I have root..when I flash transparent rosie I have no root.... When on FactoryRom final, I open root explorer it asks for root permission I allow it and I can access system files. After I flash the transparent rosie mod, when I open root explorer it says and I try to open a system folder it says my phone isn't rooted and it doesn't ask for root permissions.
Do you have a modified kernel?
i haven't flashed anything seperately, just whatever kernel came with factory rom
That's why, you need a custom kernel

Well as soon as I said that, I got it working, but I had to reflash the supersu and busybox zip then download supersu from the market, but all is well now
I just hope I don't have to do that every time I flash a mod.

You only have to do that if you go stock
You're still going to have to have custom kernel for actual root

Change Device Model in Android Emulator - android.os.Build.MODEL

Is there a way to change/add the device model in Android emulator?

Search in Google play for ROM Toolbox Lite. This version is free and support the build.prop edit you want.
Caution: Prior applying any changes please make a backup of your current build.prop file
I believe you can just also navigate to the system folder and find it there. Use es file explorer and under settings check up to root, root explorer, and mount system.

Rooted-Yes, Im running task650's AOKP 4.2.2 ROM with the stock kernel.....i.e. i haven't flashed another kernel, using the one which is there by default in the rom
You need a root explorer. Pick the bootanimation.zip that you want. Go in system/media folder...find the bootanimation.zip there...back it up. Move the bootanimation.zip that you want into the system/media folder....change permissions to rw/r/r. Reboot phone.
Edit: Make sure it is not a flashable bootanimation...if it is, to do the steps above...you must first extract the bootanimation.zip from the flashable file. Enjoy!
