Hi,
Question about the Verizon data plan with Tbolt, not sure if it was asked before or not.
Right now, I've been lucky thus far to be grandfather from the old 29.99 unlimited data plan EVDO since I had the Samsung Omnia -> Blackberry Storm -> Motorola Droid -> Samsung Fascinate.
So if getting the TBold, would assume I can continue with the same data plan. Question is around the 4G. Is it the same data plan or would I need to give up my unlimited for the 4G and lose the unlimited data plan?

I should be up for a new phone in July..so pondering
Same plan, no need to change anything data wise
correct same plan will work and give you unlimited data but i would hurry if i was you and do it asap, the droid bionic is coming out soon and i have herd that once the bionic is out they will no longer offer the truely unlimted plan anymore, but if you are already on the tb with taht plan once bionic is released they can not make you change your plan.
I am so glad that we were able to keep the same plans for this phone. Unimited 4g?! Sounds good to me
grandfathered in all the way!!!!!!! Then when a better LTE device comes out, Ill be rocking that unlimited data for 30 bucks!
unlimit yourself...
You don't have to be grandfathered. At the moment that is current pricing. You can walk in as a new customer and get unlimited.

Possibly, but it is likely they will force us to take tired pricing if a new contract is created. As long as you choose to pay retail for future devices, no problem, but....

Sell thunderbolt, buy other phone outright. Win win.

So are yall saying the unlimited 3G can be turned into unlimited 4G?

I mean like after they switch to tiered data.
I'm on unlimited 3G right naow.
Just about to pre-order a One, and I'm stuck on trying to understand what 'data unlimited' means as compared to the 3GB plan. I did get grandfathered to an unlimited plan when I transitioned to my Inspire, but in the past 2 years there hasn't been a single month where I exceeded 2GB. Wondering if y'all have any advice.
Keep your grandfathered unlimited data, NO reason not to.
I'm on Premier, but when I tried to order mine, the website wouldn't give me the correct price for the phone if I kept my current voice and data plan.
I went into a store, and during the process they told me the system said unlimited plans were not allowed with this device. They called to make sure I am able to keep the unlimited data. Whoever they called annotated my account saying I could keep it, but it has to be reapplied after I get the phone (as was the case the last couple of times I upgraded).

Not sure exactly what you're saying here.
If I don't get throttled until after 3G, then what's to worry about? How much 'throttling' is there? How does one tell if the plan has been changed?

If I recall, LTE unlimited data plan cap is 5GB.
yep. If your on att, always keep your unlimited. Only way to lose it is if they accidentally upgrade your data plan to 3gb or whatever data, or move you to the mobile share plan.

You should be able to keep your data plan regardless of how you order, but as someone else mentioned, the "unlimited" data plan is only unlimited until you are throttled at the 3 gig mark (I do believe its 5 gig for LTE users), at which point you drop to 2G speeds (and let me tell you, 2G is not fun) for the remainder of your billing period. If the Premiere site isn't letting you keep the plan, then you should be able to call and place the same order over the phone with a rep, and the rep should be able to retain your data plan. Otherwise, if you remove the data plan, even accidentally, you cannot get it back, so be very careful about what you click.
AT&T changed the specifics of the "unlimited" plan a while ago without changing the actual name of the plan, to keep people happy. So the "unlimited" and "3GB" data plans are essentially similar now.
Im with O2 Uk
We have two phones through my wife's contract.
On my SGS II I had unlimited data. I never realized just how much I used it until a O2 rep called to "let us know" I had used about 6 gig of data that month. Wanted to know what it was on and that all was ok, LOL
Funnily 4 months before my upgrade they called again to say they will not be continuing the Unlimited option as they deemed 1-2 gig to be enough.
And trust me, you don't miss it till its gone! Im now watching every darn kb pass in fear of it running out, for me 1-2-3 GB is nothing.
The frustrating thing is, they wont offer me a plan with more than 2 gb a month??...
So Im now having to look in to getting a external Bluetooth sim thing (tbh, cant remember what they're called, which isn't helping me find the one im after.. )
I'm now jealous of a friend that has kept his unlimited plan for the past 5 or so years.... (was a special offer, bet they didn't see him keeping it this long lol) He's even forfeited his phone upgrades to keep the contract, smart guy.
My advice, Never give up your unlimited mobile internet.
Oh, and just before all you haters start hating, I don't tether and I don't torrent on my plan  , I do alot of streaming :good:

You clearly know nothing of the people in the US that run 90-150 gigs per month off of their unlimited LTE data plans.
I used to have unlimited when I had a BlackBerry years ago but when I switched to the Samsung Captivate I had to change the data plan and I lost it. I've had 2 a month ever since and I always have to monitor my data with 3g watchdog. Thinking about changing it to 3 GB when I pre-order the HTC one since it's only $5 more a month.

Didn't want to take a chance of loosing my grandfathered unlimited data plan so I went to a corporate store yesterday and placed the order there for upgrade of phone only. They also included the media link which was out of stock yesterday afternoon but was restocked later in the evening online.
Keep the unlimited. I use up a lot of data on Plex app and DirecTV alone.

Ok, so just to be sure I'm on the same page, when I upgraded, I selected the box which said this, and my current (post-upgrade) services show:
Data Unlimited SmartPhone Personal
Data Plan for SmartPhones. Unlimited domestic data usage. Only available for upgrades. Requires customers to be on a "Gold List" Data Unlimited SmartPhone Plan prior to upgrade to 4G device.
I presme that's the right one, yes?
I am in the same position. I have the unlimited plan and I'm thinking about getting the HTC One.
I will not give up my plan because I regularly go over 3gb. I received the text message threatening to throttle my speed after 3gb but never really noticed the difference after 3gb.
I remember when I was upgrading to the iphone 4 back in 2010 I had the choice of keeping unlimited data or drop to 2GB and save $5 a month. At the time I was not even close to 2gb so I dropped down to save some $$.
Fast forward to 2013.
I do about 6GB a month. Without even trying. LTE was a game changer.
I regret giving up my unlimited data.. They even raised the throttling to 5GB.
I ordered online but before doing so I talked to representatives. They told me if I ordered it but called them before activation they can make sure that you don't lose the unlimited data. I have backup in the form of a chat online with their representative just in case they try to not honor their word.

At&T throttle?
ATT has threatened to throttle my unlimited every month for the past year or two. I always get the same two messages and it never happens. At least not that I can tell. I'm sure they do throttle, but it's never actually happened to me. I run speedtest pretty regularly and Netflix never has any trouble.
Never let them take away your unlimited data. They will have to pry it from my cold dead hands.
Got my HTC One yesterday and this morning I get a text from AT&T saying "Did you know an eligible data plan is required for your LTE device? Please call 611 to select a plan and establish your LTE data connection today".
I've had an unlimited plan for years, although I don't use GB's worth of data each month (use Wifi at home and at work). Do I really need to switch over to one of those plans?
You need to call and get them to switch you to an unlimited LTE plan. I had the same when I came from an iPhone. You are grandfathered so if they give you any trouble remind them. But they should be able to get your taken care of. You will get those messages until you switch

Just adding my voice to the choir - when I got my One XL last year, I was able to keep my grandfathered unlimited data, even on LTE.
Jealously clutch it to your chest until they pry if from your cold, dead hands. I keep waiting for AT&T to go the Verizon route and demand you pay the off-contract phone price to keep unlimited data, but so far, it isn't happened.

Everyone on an unlimited plan gets throttled, there are no longer unlimited plans, BUT AT&T makes exceptions for some people, and some people don't see any throttling at all. I don't know what warrants this exception to the rule, but "unlimited" is simply a word now and only means unlimited to a degree, everyone is supposed to get throttled (3GB at 3G, 5GB at LTE).
Call AT&T and have them switch you from the regular unlimited plan to the LTE version. They should keep your unlimited in tact.

Thanks they did transfer me to unlimited LTE no questions asked. A few months ago when I was on the road for a few weeks I did use up a lot of mobile data and I did get a message saying I was going to be throttled. I believe I got that after using about 3GB.
I have unlimited + 200 texts, and I was told that they couldn't let me keep the 200 texts and upgrade to LTE unlimited. I would have to get unlimited text for an extra $10 to get LTE

I guess so. I called CS and they supposedly were able to split it into a $30 unlimited LTE + $5 200 text plan. I'll check my account later to make sure this was the case.
Make absolutely certain that, after changing over to the LTE unlimited plan that they don't screw you over. They took mine away after I had been swapped to it. I checked the account the next day and saw that my unlimited data was removed and called them and got it re-enabled.
After I upgrade/change features I ALWAYS check on it. I absolutely do not trust AT&T.

Hello Everyone,
I in the next few days I will be available for a device upgrade. I am going to go from a Rezound to S4 but I am concerned about my unlimited data.
I still have unlimited data on my plan, will upgrading my device change this?
I know now they are forcing everyone into tiered plans but I was hoping this would not change my plan. My wife and I are on a shared plan and she had to get a 2GB data plan when she got her Rhyme. I was grandfathered into my unlimited when I got my Rezound. I also still have the 500 txt messages for $5 a month which they do not offer anymore. I hope that does not get changed either
Thanks,
Ian...
if you get the phone subsidized you lose unlimited, if you have another line you can take and activate the new phone on then move the phone back to your unlimited line you should be good. just don't activate the subsidized device on the unlimited line or you are toast. at least I think that's how it all works.

You need to buy the phone outright at full price to retain your unlimited if you can't do the alternative line option corporal_hades pointed out. Verizon is offering financing to split the cost over 12 months with an additional $2 a month charge I believe.
I'm in the same boat you're in, I would like to upgrade, don't wanna give up my unlimited either.
Thanks for the information guys. Sometimes it seems like Verizon and the other carriers got us by the [email protected]
Don't forget the Moto X is $399, and the LG G2, HTC One, and Droid Ultra are $449 off contract now... just one more way to keep unlimited data.
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/08/2...-retail-with-no-hassle-use-the-iconic-portal/
It may also be worth it to decide if you really need unlimited data, or change your usage somewhat to get within 2 or 4 GB of data a month, you can save a lot if you can make some changes to your usage and get on WiFi more.
I know corporate stores will not do it, but one of the smaller Verizon stores I went into the other day said I could use my upgrade to get a new phone on my wife's life(alternate upgrade), then do a hardware swap to put the new phone on my line. It wouldn't hurt to ask a few of the stores around you to see if theyll do that.
She said if I did this I would be able to keep my unlimited.

I upgraded to the HTC one through best buy and was able to keep my unlimited plan. I upgraded the phone on my account that's already on the tiered data plan. I've been with AT&T for many years now and have not kept up with the TMO pricing structure.
With AT&T, my Unlimited Data (grandfathered) with partner discount comes out to ~$75/month. With a new two year contract, I pay $200 for premium phones and get to keep them after my two years are up.
But TMO's pricing has me really confused. Looks like you don't pay $200, but instead you pay the same amount of money for the plan itself, in my case, probably $70-$80 after partner discount (for unlimited data). Then another $27/month for 24 months for the phone, instead of paying $200 up front.
The thing is, with AT&T that $200 divided by 24 months is only $8. So TMO's $27/month is $440 more expensive at the end of the 24 months?
That's take interesting. I never got that price getting AT&T and I heard they didn't let anyone keep unlimited data anyone.
That is a better plan then what T-Mobile can offer as long as when you go to upgrade they let you keep it.
Typically with newer plans and things like that they make you change if you want to get a discount with a new device and contract. That's how they made a lot of changes the past. Forcing a change when you try to get a new contract.

I've upgraded phones a few times on my AT&T unlimited plan and haven't had an issue yet.
They did threaten to kill the plan about 1.5 years ago when they "caught me tethering", which was kind of weird. But nothing ever came of it.
I use between 1.5GB and 8GB per month, with an average of ~3GB over the last year.

I have thought about it but I use on a normal basis about 10 Gbs a month just on my Unlimited data phone, and usually one if not both of the other phones with their 2Gb plans go over a gig or so.
Even with getting throttled at 5 Gb's I tend to use another 5Gb or more at the slow download/upload speeds. I can still download/upload Roms and themes just takes longer, still stream music, check on XDA and other websites with no issues while throttled. About the only thing that gets affected is watching/streaming movies or videos. Also what I can usually do is swap my Sim into my S3 and then not be throttled for another 3GBs. So not sure I could SHARE only 10Gb a month. Thanks for the suggestion though.
And all this because my only option for Home network is ATT DSL so it is always slow as heck. May switch to cable ONLY for internet at some point though. No Uverse or fiber optic type data in my housing tract.

Honestly T-Mobile only saves you money if you bring your own device. If you finance a phone you're already up there with AT&T.
Plan starts at $50
Add $30 for unlimited data
$10 for jump
$23-29.50 for your phone.
I switched the day before the old $20 unlimited plan was removed and brought my nexus 5 so it did end up saving me money but most people want to get a shiny new phone.
