Storing Pictures on SD Card - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

So my issue is I seem to be missing where to change the destination for pictures taken to the External SD Card.
I swear my SkyRocket prompted me after I took the first picture and asked if I want to use the SD Card to store photos and videos.
Any thoughts other than I am stupid and it right under my nose.

[Q] Move photos and videos to SD card?

I have had my Atrix since Feb and I just got a 16gb Class 10 Micro SD card for it.
Can I get some help on a easy way to move over all my pictures and videos and then make that the default location for new ones to go.
Cheers,
Chris

So if I do that and then go back and open "gallery" will all the photos and videos still be there? I'm thinking not because you haven't told the phone the new location. so yeah I guess I could drag and drop them anywhere but I will need to know how to find them after the fact.

I dont know for certain if it will show up in the Gallery, but I imagine it would. Either way, if you just go to Files you can select SD Card, then navigate your folders just like you would on the internal one.

it will find them, it did for me, and when I first used the camera after putting in the new sd card it asked if i wantd to move the camera save location there. it was painless really.

correct everything will be the same

can I use SDcard instead of internal memory by default ?

I'd like to use my SDcard to store data (camera, games installs and so on) since my SDcard seems to be faster (at least when I transfer via USB, I can write up to 10MB/sec instead of 5MB/sec on the internal memory), and if one of them has to die because of too many write cycles, I'd be much happier if it was my easily replaceable SD card.
hmmm... up ?
Go Camera= settings= storage= sdcard
Thanks, that's a start, although I was looking for a more radical way (like make the /sdcard/ folder point to my sdcard) so that every app would use it. But I didn't know about the camera settings so I'll definitely use it for now !
I believe you can do this with Kies!
Once connected, click on your phone on the left hand column and there should be a radio button to change from 'use internal memory' to 'use sd card'
(Haven't tried this myself so not sure if it works!)

You are right. You can set default to sd card and it works.

Thanks for this post, it allowed me to buy this phone, I only like using the SD as default storage and I was scared I wouldn't be able to.
This is actually wrong... You cannot change the default storage sadly... I hope they change this is a future update.
Good to know, now I'll start looking for a "bigger" SD card

[Q] Continuous Shooting Save Folder

Is there any way to specify the save folder for continuous shooting mode? Single photo shots are going to the external SD card like I requested, but continuous shooting mode shots go into separate folders (for each continuous shooting session - which is quite annoying) on the internal SD Card.
I can't find the option any where.
I dont think so, but if you expand those shots, they end up in the folder with the rest of your photos.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was done on purpose because HTC didn't want to worry about dealing with memory cards too slow to keep up with the camera.

Where are all the pictures being saved to? My friend just got this phone and he was under the impression that once he selected the "Best Photo", the others were all deleted! He would like to have the option to save them all.

When the preview comes up after a burst shot just use the back arrow and the whole string of pics will stay in the "100BURST" folder (or something) in DCIM on the internal SD card.

[Q] Galley App not displaying pictures from the DCMI folder on my SDCard

My S4's Gallery won't recognize old .jpgs. It will take new pictures, and load them to the DCMI folder as normal. The same folder also contains all my old pictures but the Gallery will only show the new pictures.
How can I "import" my old pics, or have the Gallery App recognize them?

Hello! You can try going to app settings and clearing the cache/data for the gallery app. This should force the app to rescan your sd card for content the next time you open the gallery. It doesn't hurt to unmount and mount your sd card from the storage option under settings. The latter won't work if you're storing pics on the internal card. Hope this helps.

Neither worked but this did:
1: from Google play download fish bowl photo free..
2: open the app and go to menu or press menu on your phone.
3: click on advanced and then press start media scanner, app will close and scan wait 5 min and open gallery and check if your picture are there, if this doesn't work follow step 4.
4: click advanced then on find
missing photo go to sdcard, and click the folder where u have your pictures in my case DCIM,camera and select that folder with the check mark on the right the press menu on your phone and click add to gallery and it will start adding all the picture to your gallery let it finish now all your picture will be on your gallery use this process to add any picture on on your sdcard to gallery any question please ask... for me!

It seems the media scanner was not running upon reboot as it should (still don't know why), so the solution was downloading an app called "scan media" and all it does is launch the media scanner process to search for media and populate the media storage. The app doesn't require any permissions at all.

[Q] Gallery is using almost 3gbs of storage, yet all images are saved to SD card.

I looked at my storage of the phone and the gallery is using almost 3gbs. However, all of my photos and videos are saved to my SD card. Not sure why. Just wondering if anyone knows why and can help free up that storage.
Do you have a lot of screen shots? Those, I believe, get stored on internal storage.

^^^ Good question!
I have it on the extsdcard. I just searched my whole Sd Card and there aren't any pictures really on it. Only 10 screenshots which is like 7mb only. There are some .thumbnails folders. One is 400mb and another is 350mb. Not sure if those are safe to delete. Regardless it is still at 2.49 gb.
Can u give us a screenshot

Install DiskUsage from the play store. It lets you see what the major space users are and drill down to find the files responsible.

Tap on the "Gallery" area. It'll expand to the right to show you what's using the space. Then, you can use the two-finger spread to expand the list of files (i.e. the motion you use to zoom in on a picture).
Basically, that screenshot confirms the fact that you've got a whole bunch of space consumed in the Gallery folder, so zoom in to see what it is.
Edit: looking at that again, the "data" appears to be one big file - click and zoom that area to see details. Seems like Gallery is keeping something huge there.

I tried to zoom but all it does is make the box with "data" in it bigger, but doesn't show anything different then "data 2542MiB". If I clear data in the app info would that delete all my pics even though they are on extsdcard?

It shouldn't delete the pictures, but you'll have to rescan them.
What I'd do is to eject your external SD card, then clear data in Gallery, then re-insert the SD card.

Ahhh genius! I was going to backup my phone then clear data. But removing SD card then clearing data worked and was a lot easier. Thanks a lot! Not sure why it was hogging all that storage. It is now only at 20MiB. What a big difference.
