Just want to know if anyone else knows about this new app that is in dev at the moment.
It is a way of having a dual boot with ios5 and android

As said in the other thread, Im not sure whether its a fake rip off or a real one. Apple hasn't and wouldn't give source codes for their crap.
And erm, ios would just dirty my phone
Yes, im a fanboy
I am slightly convinced that if might be real, although as said on the blog he has run into some legal problems but thinks he might have found a way around this, I am a Droid fan but this is a show off feature that would be pretty cool.

Wow it would be really nice to have ios running on my SII. i love android, but showing the fanboys that our device can do both. It's priceless. keep up the good work
im interested in this project mostly because would be nice to test performance on the s2 but then you would run into issues like their retina display, apple would never allow it since there platform is copyright, but luckily this guy is named Anonymous
heres a pic from his blog

It would be intresting to see how this would work and i think the galaxy s2 is the perfect phone to test on, but i cant see how he going to get over the legal issues.

If he could create a script or program that could take an IPSW (Firmware file) and make it "android ready" for lack of a better term, he would be completely safe. As the user would be downloading the IPSW and supplying it not him. Also the IPSW are available freely on Apple's site so they couldn't come after the users at that point at all. He just has to find a way to do that (not going to be easy).
Also iOS source is available on apple's dev site for anyone to look at it. It's just mostly copywrited (besides the BSD portions). I'm not sure if all of it's there but I have looked at some of it in the past for hints to exploits for jailbreaking.

I have some development background, and from my knowledge of iOS and ARM Devices this would be quite a task if this is what he is doing.
I really want to believe this is real but I just found a link from github by someone called Peter42 who freshly uploaded a "BootDroid" code.
Last update to his blog dated 24 March is the same date the files were uploaded.
I have a Motorola Xoom and believe I can't test them.
Could anyone (for God's sake!) confirm whether they were real or not?
If possible, I already downloaded the files and would upload them for you in case original was removed.
this should be awesome, running ios in the powerfull SII... just for shutup the izombies xP
Even better, the upcoming Galaxy SIII!
But for real, can anyone try that?
I just ran the installation process on my Motorola Xoom and didn't notice any difference like a new app nor by or through restarting.
I'm kinda hyped up on this and would love to brag about how Android is superior to iOS if it was true
I heard about this and i think the guy plans to do it by vnc so just displaying the iPhone screen over internet

I don't really know if this was the link to the program or not though it's called the same.
But as I said before, these files were uploaded the day he last updated his post.
You can download it from there.
I don't really know how this should work since it doesn't even have iOS firmware files but I figured someone with a supported device could try and see for himself.
Nothing appeared on my Xoom at all which is not supported!
And, you can uninstall it from the same installation wizard.
Hi everybody !
Sorry for my english, I'm french.
I am really interested on this application, so I wonder if somebody has already succed in make it working ?
I' ve downloaded the Zip package on the website shared on the link below, but I don't understand how to instal it...
I think that even if it's possible to run iOs and Adroid on a Iphone, it woould be difficult to do the same on a androphone beacause iOs in not an open source system ...
Can somebody help me please ?
Thanks to you guys

This is bad news, I think our ace community is quite large and our ace is still fairly new. Anyways lets just keep on doing what we do best and that is makeing our ace the best it can be, we don't have to be on the main forum.

Get us a CM9 port, that would boost the activity here
bad news... I don't know what coolya said about definately having an official version, but after that I really doubt it boys. Honestly so far CM7.2 by vo-1 is a very good rom, in my opinion is the most complete and stable and something tells me that it won't get any better than this.
I mean even if we won't get official, our ACE is still one hell of phone with this version of cyanogenmod on. And afterall, it's just a phone!!!!
In my opinion the thing is, all ROM cookers are separately working instead all collecting under the same roof and starting a big project (pointing at MIUI). Most of the phones which have CynogenMod or MIUI are on the main index, bacause? Its because those ROMs are made collectively by many developers at the same time.
It goes like this:
The bigger the project is - the more bugs spawn - more suggestions come - more mods come for them - more fixes - more themes - which ultimately leads to more activity in that particullar forum.
So as a viewpoint from a user, I'd like if all our developers come together no matter how much education he has about Android but they can contribute to the bigger goals. Make an official ROM for our Ace with widest possibilities of modding in it. I think we would gain our position back on the main index.
So what do you guys think?

I talk about it exactly as you said in the very recent past and never got an answer for that. I absolutely agree with you.
The bottom line is this... mobile phone market as every electronics market is moving so fast that our ACE is now cosidered an old device. Keeping that in mind along with the fact that ACE happens to be a mid range phone then game is over. So if we haven't got an official CyanogenMod by now that means that will never gonna get one. Actually if we haven't got anything by late January 2012 GAME IS OVER!!!

Copy that. But the device never gets older till it gets updates from the dedicated dev's who constantly develop for it, making those phones accomplish bigger tasks than the newer phones. Samsung Galaxy S is the biggest instance, which's still on the index.
Couldnt care less

What about LG optimus and optimus one and optimus v There are many devices far older than ACE, but the only problem is that Ace was never released in USA and hence we got lesser devs than those devices, hence classified as low activity
Well I dont know about the rest of the world But in the uk ace is very alive. Its still advertised on tv. 3, vodafone and carphone warehouse all use it in there adverts. Before the ace I had my ace I had an iphone and a gt540. Both ipressive devices for the time, but my ace is special. I havent loved a phone like this since my old w550. I love this phone, I adore it. And with the new software coming out its just as fast and stable as the old galaxy s. It not just a phone, its art! All who read this. . . Stop, look at your phone. Give the finger prints a wipe away. Hold it to the light and look. Now tell me its not stunning. Who cares where they put it. We love it!

Thanks for the link anyway.
Sure
Would be cool to try WebOS at SGS II =)
I think it doesn't have much chance against Android.

I see it not so much as a competition, but more as something that would compliment my phone. Primarily android, with webos on the side.
But I agree that it would be cool to try it nonetheless.
I would probably flash it out of curiosity but ultimately ill no doubt always stick with Android unless they do the unthinkable and become "closed" like IOS but i cant see that ever happening.
of course I want it in my phone. Also, could the devs port the code to android to make it faster/better/whatever?

Didn't HTC or Samsung (can't remember who) get full licensing permissions on WebOS? lol well that's useful now.
If it was me, yes I definitely would! Like with the HD2, I tried WM 6.5, WP7 and Android, but ultimately had to go back to Android.
= What are you even doing asking whether or not you should root your phone on XDA?! =
What we have here is HP finding a cheap way to support it's WebOS devices.
I'd sure as hell try it out. The UI is fantastic and would probably fly on the SGS2. Probably would have to steal some drivers from Android but since they're both linux-based it shouldn't be too difficult.
Although I'm guessing most of the devs are involved with ics at the moment...

Hey Skellyyy, just out of curiosity, what made you stick with Android over WP7? I have not had any WP7 device yet, but it looks attracting.
I would LOVE this...i got a Pre on day one and loved WebOS...i would have stayed, but lack of solid hardware and an extremely small dev crew to get things going. if we could even get a WebOS launcher on top of android, that would be amazing!
i truly hope they get this going on our SGSII's.....i'd pay good cash for this!!
EDit - Any dev who decides to take this on, consider my SGSII a test device for you....
WebOS all the way!
For those who haven't tried it, here are some hints:
-butter smooth (when fresh)
-TRUE and exceptional multitasking
-great UI
The thing with HP is that they bought Palm for a hefty sum but never had any idea how to make it better. For now, they only got two WebOS devices that can not be called ancient: Pre3 and Veer- both fabulous phones ( Veer is quire popular among ladies, even @ Google HQ ). This is the bottle neck for their market. If they will get it running on other devices it will surely change the game more than WP7 did.
HP will nail it if they choose to go open source and get some devs involved, though this OS is maybe the best so far, it's still full of bugs and flaws, looks like a beta release.
... Another one. Is open sourcing now the dumping ground for dead projects?
came back from a party some minutes ago and read that webos is now open sorce on pocketnow.
it would really be great to be able to dualboot webos and android on the s2. hope somebody will do this and bring us this great os.

Hi, I don't really know tbh, android just felt like my home that I couldn't leave. Although I really want a WP7 device to give it another try. I feel like it could be good for me, everything I basically need and it just works. Without any distractions. Social integration is a major plus now too, I never really went on social networks when I tried it out, might get another cheap HD2 and have fun with it.

So I would like to know if there is a way to run iOS on the Note and when I say run I mean like if it was an iPhone 4s. Is there any one who can help me anything is much appreciated,

I thanked your post, not because it was in any way useful but absolutely hilarious!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that will most likely never happen. I'll trade my wife's iPhone 4 for your Note though, I'll even throw in a dead iPad!
Well, truth be told, there is not a solution yet.
BUT, if you wait a bit, a rom called MIUI will likely be developed.
Let me explain...
Cyanogen is a team that develops 'clean' Android roms for many devices. This means, no bloat and has ALL of the features that Android has to offer, enabled (with exception to features that would not be applicable because the phone simply does not have the hardware - for example, if your phone does not have NFC, Cyanogen wont support it for your device and they simply remove all of the code related to this). The result is, the most feature rich version of Android (and most up to date as they do keep up with Google's releases) with the least amount of crap. This keeps the phone lean and clean.
Now, since Cyanogen is open source, they make the source code available for other rom developers to modify what they have done to create different experiences. This allows developers to start with a feature rich rom and develop on top of that to add their own 'flavor' to their work.
One such 'flavor' is MIUI which strives to make your Android device as Iphone like as possible. While it isnt perfectly matched to the Iphone, its moderately close.
Dont get me wrong, I for the life of me am baffled as to why someone would want their Android phone to look like an Iphone but that is what MIUI is there for.
(BTW, if I am wrong about MIUI, feel free to mention it, based on everything I have read about it however, the impression I got was to theme an Android OS to look like IOS).
However, we have a long way before this happens. Rom developers have barely figured out how to do anything with this phone.
To my knowledge, there is only 1 custom rom (Saurom) and it isnt really all that custom from what I can see. All it seems to have is enhancements from the stock rom (overclocking, cwm, att bloat removed?) but in essence is just a more efficient streamlined stock rom.
There is also only one custom kernel that I can see that again, is the same as the stock kernel but allows for overclocking (and I think I read that the davlik cache size was increased).
Once Samsung releases the source code for the Note, we will start seeing alot more rom development, at which time Cyanogen will jump on board and start making roms (using the source that Samsung releases for things like drivers) and once Cyanogen has a relatively stable rom, MIUI will likely take the Cyanogen source and tweak it.
Very convoluted I know but probably wont be seeing anything earth shattering until the source code is released from Samsung.

There wouldn't really be too much point as one of the main features of Parandroid is having tablet mode which.....errr you have as its already a tablet. A lot if work for something you already have.

Actually, part of why people like Paranoid Android so much is because of the ability to not only change modes (tablet, phablet, phone), but also set per-application DPI, size, and modes to change how each fragment operates.
Example: Youtube uses two modes (phone/tablet), and I like the phone mode better. But, I can't use it. Even restoring a phone APK of Youtube results in the tablet UI. PA lets you define Youtube and make it act like a phone!
That kind of flexibility is very powerful, and useful until we get powerful, properly built tablet apps with all of the features we desire. A lot of work? Sure. Possibly worth it? Definitely.

like what Akkeresu said below, it's not only the ability to change modes(although that's what I want most). And plus, who says I wanted tablet mode since I already have it? -.- I want it to look and feel like a Nexus 7. Which is only possible with this ROM as far as I know.

Actually no. The developer of PA quoted this, "no, but someone else can. if you have cm10 you can have pa aswell. it would run right away, theres barely any adjustments to make on our side and aosp is the same on any device anyway, no matter if phone or tablet." So yeah, he said it doesn't really need much tweaking from their side. Just hope someone can just help out to make this happen..:good:
Bump for curiosity' sake.
I think having these capabilities would be amazing,
Anyone willing to take this on?

I can do this quite easily as already have done it once for the prime.
The thing is I really don't have the time to keep remaking it constantly and re uploading new nightlies so if you wait a bit longer for some of the bugs to be ironed out I will knock one up but then I will only make a new one once a month or so.

I 've been looking for a way to get the Nexus 10 UI on my TF201 for like a week. Ofcourse I ended up nowhere. I can get all but the <back> <home> <app switcher> buttons to get in the middle of the bottom, and the rest of the status bar on the top. So during my search i came across the capabilities of the PA Rom. Sadly, I then discovered that the rom is not available for the TF201. Was ready to post in the Q&A section for "how to get the nexus 10 UI on the tf201" but figured i 'd take a look at this thread, and just saw your comment.
so.. in a nutshell, unless you can point me to the right direction (another direction; a way to get the Nexus 10 UI on the TF201) i 'm bumping the request posed with this thread, and ofcourse thanks for your willingness to develop!:good:
Why not just go one better and port Toasted Marshmallow?

I have a working build over at Rootzwiki, if anyone wants to check it out.
http://www.jonobacon.org/2012/10/26/ubuntu-core-on-the-nexus-7/
Looks like we might have a good chance at a good stable build of ubuntu.Since the nexus 7 shares almost all the main components with our prime.

Fingers crossed !!
Lilstevie has been working on a version but its very very secretive and i'm not sure he has much time to do it now.
sounds good. can't wait to have it :fingers-crossed:
that would be great to have Ubuntu running naively on the prime!!
I can't wait. Running with chroot and vnc is not the same and it gets sluggish

you are confusing secretive with lacking in time. Some things don't get shared, because otherwise everyone bugs me about it, and the little time I do have for things ends up being eaten up by those people. Other things don't get shared because they are simply tests that may or may not even pan out.

Naa i appreciate your busy matey, i know your at uni and doing other things its just whenever anyone asks about the Ubuntu project its usually met with silence.
I honestly think you should start your own thread about your project and update whenever you have the time etc ... i know there are some members that just want want want, but theres plenty that would support your work and be greatful that your just trying your best ... hey no one else can do it !
My comment wasnt ment to be a flame, i'm patiently waiting myself for anything you can come up with, its just sometimes i'd love to know how far your getting etc
tbh i've been desperate to get ubuntu on this thing since i bought it... now i've bought a new laptop, i barely use it anymore.

I didn't interpret what you said as a flame, I was just "going on record" so to speak The development cycle is rather unique due to the device specificities so I have been avoiding creating a new thread so I can keep focused on that. I will be creating a thread soon(tm) for a preview build though (no eta).

This shouldn't be too hard I hope. Considering the prime and n7 share almost everything. The rear cam/keyboard and microsd might be issues. But the kernel may just pickup the cam/microsd.

no, they are not similar devices, they share a cpu/gpu combo, that is pretty much the end of it.
One question it always bug me. When canonical first started to talk about their project some people mention it would be like an app you download out of the market. But if a new kernel is needed, that's not possible, right? The pad would even need to be unlocked.

Most likely yes. Most users looking for Ubuntu are probably unlocked considering that usually flashing anything besides an update requires unlocking.

Canonical said no such thing, ubuntu-on-android is something entirely different to this, it works much like splashtop does on the atrix. They also never said that end users would be able to access it from the play store, it requires being integrated by OEMs.

I wasn't clear, what I meant is that after canonical's anoncement I heard rumors from random people talking about that. And that always bugged me cuz I couldn't figure out how would they pull that off. But what u said makes more sense.
