Do Custom Roms have WiFi AP ? - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do any custom roms for the HTC Legend had a working Wifi hotspot ? It seems they don't because of driver issues, just wondered if any do ?

Yes, there are many. If there is one that can't support it based on issues of WiFi drivers and such, it will explicitly mention so in the OP of the ROM. But if I recall correctly, that's only the NewSense ROM, and the ICS alpha.
So flash any 2.2+ ROM as you please, it would most likely work, and remember to read!

What 2.1 to choose

I have read alot of the topics almost all the last 2 months. I have thought about flashing my htc hero but I don't know which roms are the most functional with the less bugs.
I read that some roms have problem with camera where it gets green, then some cannot connect to wifi others can and same with 3G and H. Then apps2SD (what is this btw. is it so the phone can see the SD card?) and other issues have been said. Then theres the battery problem which I read, on my normally use it lasts for between 2-4 days depending on the heavy use of the phone.
Its very confusin to me with all these option and allot of custom roms from different leaks or phones and different people making them. I hope some one can clear me up a little as I know little in this area and I have tested none custom rom yet, I still run the 1.5 stock rom.
I guess if I want to flash the rom I need to follow the guide at
"#Complete Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom & Newbie FaQ#"
(cannot post links yet as my post count is low which is fair =) )
thank you in advance
APPS2SD lets you install apps to your SD-Card (if it's been partitioned properly), and is there because of the very limited amount of memory available on the phone for installing apps.
This link will give you a list of the ROMs available for the Hero
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=GSM Hero ROMs
-Look for a recent ROM: these usually have the most features/fixes
-Check out the known issues/bugs: If you can live with those issues until/if they're fixed, then flash that ROM.
-Look at screenshots (if the way it looks matters to you)
-Root your phone: (remember which is at your own risk, you could possibly brick your phone)
-Flash the ROM you chose, unless the issues worry you so much in which case wait for the official release in June.
Everyone has their own preference as to which ROM they choose to flash to their phone. If you like the way a certain ROM looks then flash that one. It's all about trying out different ROMs.
Regards
I have tested most of the roms in this forum and i would say like this.
All roms has its + and - but ...
If you like rosie (stock HTC) Villain 5.4 or SlideVillain 1.01 is the best, BeHero is also pretty god
If you like non rosie i would go for ahero 0.8 VanillaEclair 1.3 is god roms
Hope that helps
fwiw im currently using sushi rom and its pretty fast and efficient. once i get JIT working ill be quite the happy camper.
edit: although in retrospect its based off of fresh 2.0d so i guess its not a 2.1 rom :-/
Thread moved to QnA, not dev related.
I have followed the debate and read some of the many threads on the sub setion. But as I see it there are still issue and FC's with all roms even the ones using the official Taiwan build.
Is there any rom of now that is free of any issue so no FC and everything works?
If none 2.1 is available without any issue's, are there any earlier builds which are fully stable with everything working, faster and stable than the stock rom? Most important is that downloaded apps from market works, facebook sync, calender, camera, peoples, sms, album+rotation etc. Any of the official 2.1 out which have everything function?
Thanks

[Q] cyanogen mod used in 2.2 roms

Hello everyone
I have a question, as I noticed recently, that one of the nightly releases of CM 6.0 finally has the camera working.
But 2.2 roms that are to be found in the dev section have camera working for quite some time now. I'm confused, as I heard that froyd villain provided their work for CM.
So my question is - in 2.2 roms, is camera working by using 2.1 drivers or something ?
Just curious, that's all
cheers

Hi,
I can clarify this for you. FroydVillain and Cyanogenmod share fixes in both directions. Cyanogen fixed camera, and gave details of the fix to other devs (IIRC it involves specific files for each device). The fix involved 2.1 drivers, though the specifics evade me, but essentially yes.
FroydVillain was one of the first ROMs to include Cyanogen's camera fix as an update was being released anyway about that time.
But equally if someone fixes something in Froyd, they send it to Cyanogenmod to get fixed for other devices too (like how Revoked fixed the proxy implementation for CM6 for Froyd and sent fix upstream)
Hope that explains it. I don't know what the nightlies are built off, but the sharing means info moves about sometimes faster than via nightlies...

[Q] What consist in a ROM

Hi,
I am new to android phone. I see on the Android development threads, there are multiple version of ROM
My question is what does a ROM consist of?
1. kernel
2. boot loader?
3. Apps comes with phone (e.g. Setting app, Phone app)
4. android framework
5. radio drivers?
6. gps drivers?
and my next question is for different version of ROM what are the differences?
I know some are porting CM9 some are porting vanilla android source.
But are these rom have the same kernel? same radio drivers /gps drivers/etc?
Thank you.
A rom is a tar file, meaning an ancient and common type of Unix/Linux archive.
You can see exactly what is inside one by executing
tar -tf <rom>
You can even do this on your phone if you have a good rom.

first question the Vibrant roms usually have all you listed except for #2 bootloaders (with a very few exceptions)
Different roms will have different kernels, framework and gps libraries. there are a few radios to pick from.
Most ROMs have all of that, except sometimes the bootloaders. Major differences in the ROMs are the Android version, appearance and customization. Some ROMs have bugs, though, like GPS won't work or it take a while to connect to wifi. You can usually find out about these bugs if you read some of the comments on the ROM page.
Thanks. The shipped ROM must have a working GPS, WiFi , Radio, Camera, Audio, Speaker, right?
But when I follow the 'Vibrant Development' threads for custom ROM, I see some ROM has GPS issue, others have Mute/unmute problem, wifi issue, etc etc.
My question is when creating these custom ROM, why can't one just copy these drivers from shipped ROM and have everything works?
Thanks.

The last shipped Rom for the Vibrant was a long time ago and was a 2.2 froyo rom. Everything will work if you choose a custom rom based on 2.2.
The drivers, libraries for 2.3.x Gingerbread and 4.0.x ICS don't exist for the Vibrant so the devs mix and match libraries from other phones and old 2.2 stuff.
Sometimes it works, other time not. It's incredable we even have a working ICS despite the bugs.

Wifi hostpot problem

I have a SGS II with Simplistic ICS RC7 and my main problem is that it doesn't seem to find the wifi hotspot created with connectify(software that shares your internet connection thru a wireless card) in my work (no router there).
Previousily i was on Miui 2.3.7 and it worked . Doesn't seem to be an ICS issue , more like a STOCK firmware issue, as my coleagues on stock 2.3.6 didn't find the hotspot eighter so i'm thinking it must be an modem driver issue or kernel. any help would be apreciated.
nobody knows????
I've no experience with connectify, but you could try changing out your kernel. Wifi drivers are in the kernel, I believe. Give Siyah a shot.
well the only custom kernell from siyah for ICS available right now is an alpha version. tested it. wifi still doesn't detect my hotspot.
Sorry, totally missed the part about you being on an ICS ROM.

LG G5 WIFI issues.

so im installing new custom ROM and the WiFi dosent work and im typing the correct password in. but the wifi will work on stock? ... thanks
You need to read the thread of whichever custom rom you installed and then ask there.
Personally I've tried most of them and never had any wifi issues.
