Got a quick question....I have a rooted incredible and want to switch to the resound but wasn't sure if buying a new one was the way to go. Can I still root one if it comes from verizon?

The Rezound will always be rootable. No update will prevent it since HTC supports the unlocking of the bootloader. Since we have that, we have root forever.

I'm getting one of these as a replacement for my 3D from Sprint. I'm torn. What do you suggest and why?
Photon packed full of features and it's not samsung
Nexus s - single core, no micro sd, 5mp camera, outdated.

^true, but nexus s 4g is more than likely getting ics, whereas the photon is a bit in the air. Also, I think it has a bigger development community (no offense to the great devs here of course) on xda
Not even close. Wife had a nexus s 4g. I've had a Photon. Just bought a mopho for her and working on selling the ns4g. I thought it was going to be great with the open source and dev network and everything. It was a disappointment. It also does not have gorilla glass, is smaller, and has no kickstand. I would rather wait longer for official ICS than step down to a NS4G.
You should list things you absolutely need a phone (good signal, good quality screen, build quality, camera performance, etc.) and then check which of the two offers the most must need features.
This isn't even a question, of course the photon. Just because the NS4G is getting ICS wouldn't make it a better choice. Getting a NS4G at this point would be taking a step backwards imo.
Went with the photon. Sounds like I can root and retain 4g and use root apps like wifi tether but no ROMs if I want 4g. I guess this is good enough for now.
Chances the bootloader will ever be unlocked?

The bootloader is unlocked, it's just that 4G gets disabled.
I'm getting my photon in two days as a replacement for my banged up 3VO... so glad it is on back order and I was offered something better....
So to the point.... If I am reading correctly, if I want to flash a custom ROM and recovery I have to give up 4g?
... Sounds good to me, I don't even get good 3g at my house, never mind 4g.... I'm always on wifi...

Its currently being worked on but I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon. Providing ETA's in the Photon forums seem to get you beat like a red headed stepchild in here!

if you are willing to give up 4g unlock your bootloader and download jokersax's cm9 ROM it's great and the only thing that isn't working is the camera which i believe is gonna be fixed by the end of this week

So can you relock and get 4g back? I've tried different ICS ROMs on other phones including CM9 and while I like it I'm not willing to permanently lose 4g so I can play with it on the MoPho.

Yes, it is reversible

Hello - What are you going to do with your Incredible 4G?
Did you know you can use the Verizon site to swap phones? Just power down and remove the battery from the Thunderbolt. The IMEI Number and SIM Number are what you'll need to enter to reactivate your Thunderbolt.
Good luck with your move back to the Thunderbolt! I go back and forth between my Thunderbolt and the DINC 4G just for the variety.

Lucky guy... got mine from Amazon about a month ago and it was already updated when I got it. Seriously disappointed, but it's still a great phone. Even simple root would make it a lot better, though.

Hey Buddy!
Just send it off to get JTAG before you take it out of the box I just did one that way. I picked it up and powered it on though before I stuck it back in the box and shipped it out.
Honestly I'd probably buy one outright and save the upgrade for a new phone.

Hey, good to see a name I know. I'm actually using my wife's upgrade to get the DNA and keeping my unlimited data. She is going to take my rezound. Once I can get the upgrade on my line I will use wire fly to transfer my upgrade to her and get a newer phone. Im trying to my unlimited at all cost. I never heard of JTAG. I'll check it out.
Also what's up with the no root?

The devs exploited the bootloader to get us unlocked and achieved a 1 minute s off process. Then one of the updates closed up the hole we were using basically. Everyone who ever unlocked before the update is fine. it's only phones that didn't have the CID changed (HTC-Dev hboot unlock is achieved by changing the CID from Verizon's to a custom 2222222 CID then using htc-dev.com like normal) that can't be unlocked.
JTAG accesses the service ports on the main board with a special hardware called a riif box. It accesses the device at the lowest level so locked bootloader is no obstacle. It's like what the manufacturer uses to flash the DNA firmware onto the board. So its kinda like if HTC plugged up the phone and unlocked it and turn the security flag off.
You send them the phone, they open it up, wire it to the hardware box and use the accompanying software to do whatever you need, it will even flash at a low enough level to repair a true software brick as long as its not a hardware explosion or something that bricked it.
Mobile Tech Videos is the name of a real reputable shop in Texas I've dealt with a lot. PM me for my GTalk if you want to talk to some more.

Whatever you do, don't let it update when you get it! I recommend not installing the SIM (so it can't phone home) and unlocking it first. If you're not too comfortable with using adb, I think my writeup (in my sig) explains it well enough for you to follow.

Did Verizon and HTC break up?
The only HTC phone available on their site is the Incredible 4G and its for pre-owned only.
In store they have nothing.
I found it interesting.
Edit: Nevermind. Found out why.

HTC changed from creating several phones each year to just focusing on a single phone and selling it on each carrier. Your question is interesting that you are just a day early. The HTC One is set to be released Thurs (along with a Motorloa phone.)

And to celebrate, a day later Verizon Wireless forced HTC to take the bootloader unlock down from htc.dev site.
Yea looks like Verizon certainly has a firm grip around HTC and Samsung's balls. Both flagship devices are now locked down with the latest softwares.
And with VZW locking down the bootloader on the One, it is now time that VZW and I break up.

With great devs on here I'm sure there will be workarounds soon...granted I'm using a Verizon rezound I'm not on their carrier...thanks to the devs....if not I wouldn't of been able to use the gsm capabilities to just go prepaid on this phone with straight talk...ya data is a little slow and could go with other sim carriers but I'm happy where I'm at

I was just wondering will Sprint let you upgrade to a new device with the One Up Program (or with their standard upgrade program) if you have a rooted phone? I have an EVO 4G LTE rooted with CM 10.1 and my upgrade is a few months away. Did Sprint give anyone problems? Or do they not care?
Thanks

My store (in Orange County, CA) is a pain in the butt with the phone being in a hacked state, if you can hide the Unlocked bootloader state, you will almost be certain to be good to go.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully sprint doesnt give me any problems.
The store here didn't care when I traded in my rooted and custom ROM Evo 3D
I've never seen em give a damn about root and custom ROMs, after having my screen replaced 3 times and speaker twice (last speaker got me a whole new bezel, but I remained S-off, so I know they didn't swap out. YMMV. If there's more than one store close, I'd just go do it with root, if they give you any guff, flash stock and hit the other one.

You can always just RUU the phone and use regaw leinads tool to set it back so the bootloader looks like it is s-off!
I've traded in rooted phones at my local corporate store and they never cared, even when I told them it was rooted.
