Looking for helpers for ics :) - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Haven't been reading the forums lately, so I don't know if somebody's already working on this, but I want to port over ics android 4.0 to the nook tablet. I need one tester, but not for a little while, mainly because I don't even own the tablet.
The tester is going to have to be there when I need him and be able to report bugs, logcat, etc.
This is my first attempt at developing, so expect things to be slow
Also, if some of the devs are willing to help when I need it, that would be amazing
This is not a guarantee that you will get ics. But its a hope

I would love to be your tester, and yes some guys are already working on CM 9. They even wanna get the 3.2 kernel working...

can't we just use the 3.x kernel?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440438 has the latest progress from ics porting (plus the 3.x kernel thread you posted).

Yeah, both the CM7 and CM9 development here are pretty closed...CM7 insists they want a polished product before release and CM9 is going above and beyond with their kernel work, but I know for a fact that they had it 90% a few weeks ago, so I don't know why the news is slow in coming.
I'd gladly help you if you need some work, I not only have a NT but I have an 8-core machine for compiling, I'd be more than happy to build from your github as well.

Hmm... Well if they're that close to being done.. :/
But, the only thing stopping me is having the proprietary libs, which I can't get without the NT.

I can't help you now, but here is some tips.
Use Clockwork Recovery, you can restore and backup and install
Use some drivers from Kindle Fire Android 4.0 Firmware, not too many though.
Rest of the options should be Nook Tablet-based. You might be able to use some Nook Color drivers, but I highly doubt it.

Why arent there any custom CM7 roms?

I have cm7 running on my tablet and it runs great, but Im wondering why no one has bothered to use its drivers and stuff to port something like Miui or even post up themed tweaked versions of CM7?

i was thinking about this the other day, isn't it taking alot longer than usual, compared to let's say a HD2? That initial hype of porting Android on to the touchpad seems to have died down.
not saying this in an impatient way or demoralizing developers and their hard work, cuz they are doing one heck of a job to get peoplewhat they want most of all on their fondle slab
....is it because not many developers are interested in the touchpad?...couldn't get hold if one?
That said HP's new move of selling touchpads only to developers might work in favour of getting some momentum to port Android on it

Once we get the ics source all this will be null... Hopefully

I'd be really interested in seeing a Sense ROM ported from the Puccini/Jetstream. A lot of the hardware is apparently quite similar, and it'd probably make for a better tablet-ified experience while we wait for ICS.
Although, with ICS so close, it's probably not worth it.

ICS source comes out in a couple weeks.
It would be pointless to spend weeks working on a port of something, if the new version comes out shortly.
Devs are just waiting for ICS source to drop.
Plus the HD2 was a totally different scenario.
It was made by one of the largest android phone makers, and the hardware in the phone was similar to its android counterparts.
Why don't you make us one minds?

the Touchpad is not an android tablet!!!
It is a WebOS tablet.
It takes a lot of work to get a different OS working properly.
name me other tablets that have stable android and did not come stock with android.
don't forget the people working on this are not getting paid.
This is not their day job.

B&N uses a modified version of FroYo for the Nook Color. Source is available for the kernel.
I think another factor is the Touchpad is not easily accessible for some people. Maybe it was easy to get yours, but I had a little bit of trouble. Missed the sales and ended up paying more for mine.

I'm happy with what has been posted so far from CM. I haven't had a lot of issues with what has been released. I guess I have too much going on to be concerned with changes to the touchpad. I can patiently wait for ICS to be released. I'd have to imagine it will be easier to work with since it ICS is designed with tablets in mind.

[Q] Developing ICS for HTC Sensation

Hello.
I'm trying to get ICS working on my HTC sensation. I was wondering what I need to do to make it work on my device.
I have ICS working in the emulator but I want basicly port it to my sensation
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
That's much work
You have to port device-specific things that's the trick.
If you aren't an expert on these things you should wait until CyanogenMod9 is released and then the developers will port it to all compatible devices
Yeah it is and its going to take 2 months for cm9 to come out plus I want learn how to do it...sooo as far as I know I need to port over the lib files, maybe egl for graphic, change the boot img, and other things
I have the basic knowledge of porting but I was just wondering if it also applies to the ics source code

So just get the update, use CM9 to figure out how to get the device specific parts, and go bananas on your own ROM. If that is to much, you should probably see what you can do to help CM (and learn along the way) or just buy an ICS device to hack.
It might be worth the kicking around for fun and education (that's why I would: curosity), but otherwise it's faster warm and fuzzies to spend $ and more benifit to everyone to expand an existing project, to learn more on how to do your own. Just my two cents but good luck, hope you get a nice ROM going for your wants.

I assume like any other open source project, get involved. They seem to have a very handy wiki: wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Main_Page and issue trackers. You could probably walk into their IRC channel and ask if there is anything specific that needs help, and poke around the issue tracker. N.b. on IRC asking any question can take a few hours to get a reply though, depending on who is reading vs lurking.

JandyCane Port (proper Google Play Support), Fast, stable (so far) tablet mode

Hello everyone! I was here at work in the nursing home doing absolutely nothing and decided to try and port the Kindle Fire Jandycane JB 4.1 rom over to our tablet. I worked meticulously and was able to get the port to work and it seems rather stable except for our kernel limitations. I do not however get the updater script edited properly so a couple of features specific to the UI on the rom do not function but it is a nice alternative to the CM10 rom and it works fairly well. I especially like the baked in file browser and theme support! If anyone would like to add anything to make this rom better, PM me. We have a great community here and we all cant wait until the CM10 rom is as smooth as butter! I build this rom for fun and unfortunately I cannot provide any support since i dont really know what I am doing This rom is hosted on Mediafire and will only be available for thirty days as of 7/29. If a couple things get fixed such as proper mic support and location services, then maybe someone could host it on Goo-im. Thanks and I hope you like. P.S. Use Jelly Bean gapps and go check out the original authors page at xda developers kindle fire jandycane.
This is the link to the file. http://www.mediafire.com/?a3dzbc21v0tyfcd
Reserved
Here are some UI pics. The rom is set to tablet mode which is the default with Jandycane. The other pic is of the baked in filebrowser. I believe this rom also has root access yea!

No, I'm talking about his next port. He said it was Android 2.3 based.
Ive been using this for over a day now, only had 2 or 3 reboots, so, love it. Well done again. Both the ics rom and other jb rom reboot too much for me for some reason.
Another problem ive noticed, is that whenever I do a nandroid of anything other than cm7, thwy always either have md5 mismatch, or they just boot loop. This rom did as well, so I'm just sticking with this for the minute!

Project AOSP! Let's do it!

Hi gang.
Here is an idea brewing in my head. I know it will spin your head. I am embarking on a mission to bring AOSP to this forsaken land... Fair warning. As you see, there is no "recognized developer" tag underneath my name and for a good reason, I am not one! An average newb here as far as AOSP deving is concerned. I do know the very basics, I did build a couple AOSP builds for the Dinc2 and Transformer prime, but that was trivial as those devices were already supported. This device is not. So, I'll need to figure out how to first setup the environment for this and then learn to make a kernel from the source HTC has (if they released it that is).
So, anyone here who can point me to the right direction to kick this off!?
This thread is intended to be a platform for all those interested in helping bring AOSP to our device. Any and all helpful suggestions in this regard will be appreciated!
Hell yeah! I'm pretty sure if we all pull together we can get something cooking. I was wondering though obviously we aren't on jelly bean. Would it be easier to build an ics cm9 and then add select features like the lock screen, camera, animations etc?

Dunno. I was actually thinking if it is better to build Jellybean 4.1 rather than the latest and greatest 4.2.1. But if there aren't significant changes, may be we can pull off a 4.2 build. I just want to first learn to compile AOSP so that it even boots. I believe I need to mod files to build it for our environment... I wonder where I can learn this stuff..
Nits, Andy, help please!
My new laptop is running Windows 8 and I believe it will be a PITA to get Linux running natively on that due to the UEFI fiasco... I wonder if VM linux will be as fast as native... If not, I'll use my current machine to build and use the new one to due my regular stuff...
