[RECOVERY] AT&T Stock boot and recovery - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

it is flashable with odin

Can you upload stock system odin file?

the another thread i post. it is stock system with root. odin file

What's the difference between these two files? I assume one is the stock downloaded accessible via holding down the volume down button and power button? Sort of like the stock version of CWM?
What's stock boot?
Thanks.

So if you flash a custom rom these files will bring it back to stock?
Sent from the Almighty Note!

So I have Da_G's root and CPU speed up but need to go back to stock because I am sending note back. Do I run both the files above and if so in what order?

Hi Mashi,
Thanks for your System Root method as I don't want to increase flash counters on it.
However, now that I need to exchange my galaxy note, how do I unroot it? I used your root method btw - just to remove bloatware and didn't go crazy - and I'm just trying to restore (unrooted), that's it.
Can I use those files that you attached with this post? If yes, should I use both or just the "att_note_stock_recovery.zip" via odin?
I need it to send in later today. Please help.
Thanks!

Wondering the same thing, do you have to use 2 files? or just recovery?

I'm also wondering about this.
Do we flash the boot first, reboot than flash the recovery?
Thanks Mashi.

That seems difficult. There is no easier way? I don't have a backup of my original stock rom. I accidentally deleted it.

The easier way is to use odin...it will trip the flash counter.

What's the link for Odin one?
Sent from the Almighty Note!

question- is the boot.img a stock bootloader and if so which image do i flash first the boot or the recovery.img

for anyone still interested, the boot zip is actually the zipped stock kernel. Recovery is the one you want to if you are looking to restore 3e recovery

Flash rom on stock 2.2

I have stock 2.2. Can I flash a rom to it and how?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
You can do a couple of things...to have it work with 2.2.
-Odin a Voodoo integrated kernel
-Odin CWM(not sure about this)
OR
-Odin Back to stock JFD--then flash CWM via Rom Manager
You have to Odin whichever way I guess.

Is there a quIck/easy way to root/unroot?

My enterprise email app will detect root. If i have CWM installed, could i flash a custom Rom and then change superuser to deny root access, etc? I thought of flashing a non-root kernel (stock) but the custom Rom would likely fail. Thoughts?

Thanks - I will give that a try. It sounds like just what I was looking for.
Do you know what it is checking for when it checks for root? Possible to just rename SU.apk to MU.apk?? rename back afterwards..sure a tasker or script could be made to make it fast and painless if it works..

Quick question: when you refer to "stock att tar file" are you referring to the stock AT&T kernel image file? Is there a "stock Rogers" or "stock Bell" file available for Canadian Note I717 users?
Just trying to wrap my head around the myriad options here...
Thanks,

For my purposes, the stock kernel image would not work. Once I root the phone, I want to put custom roms on it - most likely ICS. I then want to run Good on the custom image after temporarily unrooting. There is no stock (or even unrooted) ICS kernel that I know about.

[Q] Anyone got a CM9 CWM recovery I can use?

I managed to soft brick my note and I can't seem to get any custom ROMs to boot past the boot animation, and returning to stock just bootloops. If anyone can provide me with their backup of CM9, that'd be great. I just need the boot.img, cache, data, nandroid, recovery, and system files. You don't even need to give me the clockworkmod folder, backup folder, or the folder for the actual backup! (Make sure there's no private information on the backup, mmkay?) Preferably, it would be made in CWM after flashing CM9 quincyatt RC2 and the 4.29.12 Google Apps.
If this won't cause too much trouble, I hope you people can provide a backup. I managed to wipe all of mine out (bad luck!).
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: If it helps anyone, I have an AT&T Note.

Unroot S3 for Kies update

Hello guys,
I just started playing around with Android/ROMs/etc so forgive me in advance for what probably is a noobish question..
I rooted my i9300 using CF Root, and then tried a few ROMS.
Although, for the time being i decided to stick to the stock. Had it restored through CWM backup/restore function (Nan I believe).
But now, when I try to update it through Kies it says that the firmware version is not compatible.
I checked around and I've seen that I could flash the stock ROM and it would fix, although I would lose everything i have right now.
Wouldn't "unrooting" fix my problem? I mean, from what i can figure out, it's just copying cache.img and recovery.img to my 'boot'?
If so, wouldn't just putting back the stock files 'deceive' to update it?
Thanks a lot!!!

Use triangle away to reset counter, flash an unrooted stock Rom, do a factory reset, that should be or. You will be unroted and original status. Please correct me if I am wrong. There are also a lot of how guides here in the forum and on YouTube!

It was a great idea. Just did that, but apparently the firmware is still not compatible..
I also still see the CWM app in my app list..
Actually, rooting shouldn't interfere with updating via Kies, only OTA. That's what I read. Do you have the correct firmware region?
well its the one that came with the phone, so should be right.

Is this the Definition of a soft brick? Fix?

So I rooted my S4 and all was good (Not my first rodeo)
I was running a Stock Deodexed ROM and I flashed a mod to change the toggles to blue. Still... all was good, but
then I decided to start fresh and clean up a bit. So I formated the device, wiped caches, data reset, yadda ya...
Flashed a different Stock Deodex and everything still seemed fine. I tried flashing the blue toggle mod and then got stuck on boot. Pulled battery and still nothing. Wiped all data again and flashed the ROM again without doing the toggle mod. Ever since then, no matter what ROM I'm on or have any mods, if I reboot I get stuck at boot screen. The only way to get past this is to wipe EVERYTHING again and start over. However... Hot/Quick/Shell reboot doesn't lock up on me.
So basically I'm at a point with my S4 that makes it impossible to flash anything and be able to boot. I even have to wipe everything before I can do a successful restore.
I'm using TWRP 2.5.0.2 and currently on my latest backup of cleanrom 1.3
Any ideas are greatly appreciated and welcomed. Thanks community!

I had your issue happen to me last week. I tried everything to fix it and nothing worked. I ended up flashing back to stock. Started flashing again using TWRP with no problems.

From DarkMenace's signature, quite a nice resource he has composed. I ran into a similar situation with TWRP and ClearnRom 1.3 last night, ended up using Odin to push the "SCH-I545_MDK_562219_Stock_Restore.tar.md5.gz" in that link. Went back to bone stock, but it's nice to know there is a fallback incase something ever goes awry.

Yes, but there are root files there also.
So then what? Or do I just use Odin to do the whole kernel flashing thing again to gain root? Sorry to sound so noobish, just don't wanna go through this again. Lol

You use Odin. You can use either file.
Sent from my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 using XDA Premium HD
Yeah I know I use Odin. I guess I should have worded that better.
If I push the .tar you mentioned, I lose root, but some root files will still be there. So my question is... What files and what can I do with them? Or do I just start the whole root process over again as in the first place with those two modified kernels?
The other "no data wipe .tar" file you push with Odin as well, but would you retain root? If so... I would prefer the no wipe .tar, but you know better than me and I greatly appreciate your help and guidance. If the first .tar file is the better way to go and start all over, that's what I'll do. Its almost done downloading anyways, but was just curious about the no wipe and if ya knew anything more about it. I owe you man!

Both files will remove root. You would need to reflash with the kernel files.
