Hey everyone, I got a new review video here for you
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPZ65wOA5kE
It's the long awaited part 2 of the transformer prime documentary.
Watch and enjoy folks!! feel free to leave feedback on what you did and didn't like
Nice!!!
Nicely done, for sure.
I agree with you and LOVE my prime - I use it for everything, about 50/50 business vs. personal.
Interesting comment on setting the display brightness to low on IPS - I will try that out.
One question - what were you using to watch episodes of Community (favorite show)? Thanks!
James,
Thanks brother! It is awesome to see positive comments about our prime. I have already gotten into a routine with my prime, and havent really done anything new with it. WOW, i didnt realize our Prime was that awesome. The Office/Polaris stuff looked great.
Great job, and thanks. Look forward to the next one.....

keep 'em coming!
Hi James,
Nice vid for the saga, looking forward to the third installment.
PS- Trying that GPU acceleration tip, let's see if improves performance.
Cheers
Great video.
How did you come to realize that having brightness at 0 with Ips+ mode on saves battery? Even more than just having brightness low with ips+ off? I am testing this out.
For the gpu acceleration, I have mixed thoughts about it. My device is already lag free. Don't really notice an improvement with it on. Not to say it doesn't work but nothing stands out with its use yet. Still testing it. It will mess with some apps though. We will see how things turn out with it on. I'm just wondering if its so gold then why isn't it enabled stock? Need more details on exactly what it does. This was kind of discussed in another thread before also.
Love the review, trying out the iPS suggestion now.
Also, are you going to do a review on the Launcher you are using? I really like your setup and would love to have a similar setup on mine. I am a bit of a theme nerd. I am not really great at themeing so often times I just improve upon what I see other people doing... Please let me know which launcher that is because it looks awesome!
P.S. I reallllly hope Google releases the api for GMusic soon, because I am very jealous of all these awesome music players. However, I love the GMusic feature of having all my music available at all times. No syncing or anything....

Nice video! I'm gonna have to check out the video acceleration. Using the keyboard seems pretty cool as well.

Thanks man,
Well I should point out that, the battery saving was for brightness (with ips+ off) jacked up at a simular level to the ips+ on and zero brightness. I should have been clearer on that point.
But yea I was just mucking around with the settings and was using the prime intermittently and leaving to do other things while the screen was left on. In about 1 hour it had only dropped 4-5 % with this setting combination, usually it would drop up to 10% with the screen on and brightness half or 3/4. So that was an interesting find, more testing would be needed I guess.
Coming to GPU acceleration, the apps that don't support it by default are far and few in-between, so there will be no difference on already GPU supported apps, it's just for the ones with laggy menu's etc, that don't have it enabled by default.
As for ICS not including it by defult: it's for apps such as kingsoft office (the frame rate goes from about 10 up to 60 fps with GPU enabled) but the rendering screws up and the text you just typed dissapears whenever you scroll (and even when you stop scrolling).
For reasons like that it would be better to have it switched off and leave it up to the user to switch it on at will.
I haven't actually tried that gpu setting yet. Just flipped it on now and the scrolling seems a lot smoother... especially in the twitter app. Thanks for the info.

if i am correct, it looked like he was using HUBS, which would be ADW Ex. please correct me if im wrong.
anyway, great video man, cant wait for next. i wish all videos would be this objective
Looks awesome, HUBS seems like a lot of work. however it is probably worth it...
Is that what you are using James?
Jeez. I spent a good 3-4 hours getting the Hubs onto my Prime, figuring out how everything works and what does what. Props to him for that Sophisticated looking hub.

Yes and no, I actually came up with this before I knew about the hubs thing, I have a small tutorial here:

It's kind of fun mucking around with this kind of thing when you're bored
very anxious to see if anyone else has tried and experimented with super ipc+ on its lowest brightness setting to see if this improves the battery.
the results have been inconclusive for me thus far
Great work on the video
Awesome job on the video man, I love my prime and use it everyday for my college textbooks, email, speeches, just basically anything!

Hi everyone,
I'm going to be writing a review when the SGSII comes out for the Clove blog, interested to know what questions everyone has for the review, and what they want to see demoed on video.
Let me know and I'll try to get through everyones questions in the review.
Will be a slightly different slant on the review than places like Engadget, in that I'll actually be using the phone as my fulltime handset, so if things like the GPS are amiss I should be far less likely to miss it than those reviews (real user feedback as it were).
Great news! Here are a couple of things I'd like to know:
1) Battery. How much does it last under different circumstances? So, WiFi on/off, NFC on/off, display brightness and so on. I know that making all possible combinations between all these options is impossible, however at least something indicative of how long the battery lasts in day-to-day use would be nice.
2) Heat. Does it really get so hot?
3) Graphics performance. Can you play Tegra 2 games on it? How well do they play and what are the graphics abilities of the device (so far we saw sub-par graphics benchmarks which were most likely due to the drivers so it'd be interesting to see whether anything has been done with that)?
Thank you in advance.
Thanks for your questions, gaming and battery life will definitely be covered (I'm also interested to know whether the Tegra Zone games will run on it, that said for all I know the first ones to ship could be Tegra based anyways), good question about how much the device heats up.
I'm mostly interested in general performance, such as browsing speed, flash speed, installing apps, (especially multiple updates on the market) any lag anywhere etc.
Also talk about the screen, would be nice to see it compared in depth with a SGS.
Also any chance you could install a 3rd party launcher and compare overall speed/lag/features etc with TouchWiz?
first and foremost i'd like to know when you will be getting the device.
do you have anything more specific than mid-late march?
Use it for more than 30 seconds, like the SGS reviewers didn't. Otherwise they might have noticed the lag, gps, etc.

Will cover that indepth. Will be doing a screen comparison with first and second gen AMOLED screens (HTC Desire, SGS1), and also iPhone 4.
I'm a LauncherPro user, so will also be using that in the review and comparing to TW.

This is going to be my new phone, I'm purchasing it from them, rather than being supplied it for review, so this won't be a review written after a days use like you'll see at lots of places. It will be my day to day phone, and I'll release the review in installments as I feel able to get a solid feel for the aspects I'm reporting on. The last part will probably be a couple of weeks down the line from release, and that will be the one that will be able to give much better feedback on things like battery life, performance under higher loads etc. If you guys have particular suggestions for some good stress tests for performance let me know.
Camera performance would be nice. eg. details, contrast, noise levels, features, how long it takes to process a picture, artifacts.
Camcorder also. Say look out for stuttering in videos, reproduction of frames.
As stated above, a thorough test of the phone's performance for lag or any inconveniences in performance.
Sound/Speaker quality and its volume levels.
UI/UX interface. Eg. is it polished like HTC sense, or as functional
I guess check for if all its features are working. Eg. wifi, GPS, NFC, MHL
A review of the battery life would be nice, however i think I already know the answer to that, since it only has 1650mAh/1500mAh
That's all i can think of for now.
Edit:
Also I noticed in the blog how clove wants users to discuss the price of the Galaxy S II. Just wondering, and understandable if you do not wish to answer, but, is the reason you wish to discuss is to also discuss with samsung the huge price for the galaxy s II so as to negotiate a price drop? Or is it simply for some healthy discussion?
The review will be my first piece for the blog, so I have no inside information on the discussion of the price that is currently running, and the motivation behind it.
Currently testing out RMAA software on my PC, but looks like I should be able to give good objective feedback about sound quality.
did you volunteer to review it? how come they chosen you? why will you do it?
Which 3G bands does it in fact have? Clove lists only 900/2100. Other sites list quad-band 3G. It's possible there's a Euro and International variant...
How many SGS2 forums do you post to? Is that a valid question?
I want lots of 1080p video test runs. Try flinging it into the air with the red button flashing. Doubles as a drop test.
Link to blog?
I need to know whether it can RECORD CALLS (both incoming and outgoing, real-time without beeps). Thanks!
1080p video performance in various light conditions. open up heaps of programs and see if the general phone performance is still smooth. thanks in advance
EDIT: If you can, find out what the deal is with the exynos/tegra 2 versions of the phone

How is the music quality through headphones, I understood that it was crap with the LG O2X so I really want to know with this device
The link below is to a blog from Dianne Hackborn. She's a software engineer at Google and works in Android OS development. She provides, in great detail, an explanation of how Android renders graphics. She compares Android to iOS and discusses why there's perceived stuttering and/or lag and what Google's doing to make it better.
There are tons of posts here where people are looking at ICS to be the second coming of Christ. It is for 2.X users. For HC users, not so much. HC is the foundation for ICS and the h/w acceleration that was introduced in HC isn't going to change in ICS. Bottom line is ICS will bring a teriffic new UI, updates to many existing OS functions, new features, and the inclusion in the OS natively many of the functions previously added by the manufacturers (EG: MKV support). Like all OS updates, it will be more refined then the versions preceding it but it is an evolution of HC not an entirely new OS. In other words, the biggest technical enhancement is introducing h/w acceleration to 2.X devices; something we HC users already have.
There's been discussions here about stuttering, lag, and the performance of some apps not seeming to benefit from a quad-core processor. Dianne's blog explains why that is and why ICS isn't going to change much. The fastest h/w can't overcome s/w issues or bottlenecks and the GPU and memory bandwith can play a bigger role than the processor in graphics rendering. Hopefully Dianne's summary answers questions people have about UI performance and sets an expectation for ICS.
And, unless you too are an engineer on Google's payroll writing Android OS code, it would seem kind of futile to challenge what Dianne's stating as fact. In fact, if you have issues or comments for her, she responds to posts in her blog.
Happy reading - it's a long one.

Where are all those fools that flamed me saying the ATP has no lag and is as "smooth as butter" even with the live wallpaper running in the background? Some of them also post how ICS is gonna own this and own that......yeah yeah yeah....blah blah blah. I'll reserve a wait and see attitude. I hope their right lol.
I just picked up my ATP w/dock. It took the opening of 3 units and a pissed off manager to get one with absolutely no defects and working wifi/gps. They ever tried to hide one from me. All 3 of them and the store demo experience lag. I only got it to take advantage of Tegra 3 optimized games and the sick dock. Compared to my ipad 2 the UI experience is meh...outside of Riptide GP & Shadowgun.
For gaming and general consumer usuage I choose iOS/A5 over Android/ATP. Hopefully when I have my ipad 2 on me no one shows up with Shadowgun on ATP
Thanks for the link!
That was a good read. Very informational. I always kinda thought thats how it works but didnt have any actual evidence, now I do..and have an even better understanding.
It isn't *just* ics that I think will make a big impact on the prime. Hardware accelleration is there, sure, but what we do have to like forward to is the software optimization for more than 2 cores, either done by Google for ics, or by Asus for the ics distribution we will eventually see.

Did you read the article? It's the GPU and memory bandwidth that impact the UI and what's rendered to the display. For video and other CPU intensive apps like games, the processors will do a better job at the task level but once the display gets involved there's not much they can do. You can only get 10 pounds of **** in a 10 pound bag.

I probably didn't give your post much thought. My bad. We're all on the same team. So help me out. After an exhaustive search for the perfect ATP at my local gamestop, I'm experience random restarts and 2 to 3 second freezes in Riptide. Any ideas?
If I can't fix this in 30 minutes I'm going to try to return it. I've only owned it for a little over an hour.

I'll make sure to read the article. Barry always tell it like it is. whether we like it or not. is this a new blog or same one I think you posted before?
I'm glad my prime isn't suffering from these issues some users are experiencing.
seriously though, I wish these people didn't have issues so they could truly see how great this device really is. just as people with issues' , there's even more people greatly satisfied with prime/tegra3.
p.s. this thumb keyboard is really cool and works very well.

I don't thinks it's bad news. For what I do with a tablet, I think Android's great. So much time and energy is spent seeking the perfectly fluid UI and transitions when, if you think about, we probably spend ten percent or less of our time moving between things and 90% doing things. If my choice is to give up the freedom of Android and move to iOS to avoid occasional stutter and lag, I'd rather stay on Android. The better GPU and increased memory bandwidth in Teg3 should make things incrementally better which is great. And I'm sure what Dianne shared is pretty well know so hopefully future chips will continue to improve the experience. My purpose of posting wasn't to piss and moan but just to share the science behind it all.

Did you DL the OTA update? Is it set to normal? I played with one at my local gamestop and it was great. Transitioned from screen to screen very smoothly and shadow gun was sick, just plan sick! It was super thin and sturdy and i can't wait to get mine on wednesday.
I do hope they fix the GPS issues that some people are having though. The won't effect me but obviously it really affects some.
As as far as the WIFI stuff is concerned I keep hearing about how many bars it shows and hear nothing about how the wifi actually functions. Other than that it works like any other device they have used.

A Gamestop employee called me up and said that they got the primes and docks in and would open for 4 hours on Christmas. They had forgot that I canceled my original order on the 16th. I asked him if other Gamestop's are open and he said no. He only opened so we could get our primes by Christmas and to catch up on inventory. If you read my other post you'd see that the manager refused my return becuase of the Holiday and said he'd call me tomorrow.
Update: I was able to return my defective Prime
Just been to the ASUS Benelux launch party and I had the chance to talk with the System Marketing manager at ASUS.
I added some more info (RED):
- I asked him about the GPS. He admitted that it is a hardware "failure" because of the aluminum back and that it will never reach the desired standard. However, he said they will NOT remove the GPS from the device and try to fix it a little with some more software updates. But he really pressed on the fact that they will NOT remove the GPS as rumored here...
- There were two ICS tablets present which he told were shipped from the Taiwan developers only for this launch and are send back later this weekend. The development menus were still present and next to the "eco", "balanced" and "normal" mode in the menu, I could also select a development mode. I wondered what this did to the tablet, but after some investigation in the settings menu it turned out that it clocked the CPU cores to 1.5GHZ or 1.6GHZ (see images below). This explains the tablets in the benchmarks Furthermore, there were alot of other development options, like forcing hardware acceleration to all applications (including 2D content). I ask him if the higher clock function will also be available in the retail ICS version, but sadly I won't But it shows that the tablet can easily be clocked higher than 1.4GHZ I tried to film the menus but the video turned out a bit fuzzy, if you want I can upload it tomorrow to youtube.
- They hooked up the tablet to a 3d tv and beamer and we could play 3d movies and riptide on it Was really nice and smooth!!
- Interesting fact he told too: The early development units of the Transformer Prime had a subwoofer built in the keyboard. However, these are removed from the retail versions
- I said the speakers were much better compared to the TF1. He explained that they made a design error there as the TF1 did have the same sized speakers but on one side it was in a much more cramped space. Therefore, they couldn't create the same size of resonance chambers as on the other side. This explains the difference in the loudness and bass of the sound on one of the sides like many users reported. He also told that they tried to patch that a little with levelling software, but it was a hardware issue. Therefore, to prevent the same problem, they opted for speakers on only one side on the TP.
- An entertainment dock for the TP will be introduced aswell. This is just some sort of a big speaker with a larger subwoofer where you can attach your prime to.
- Next to the origami sleeve, a full body sleeve will be introduced which will cover the tablet and the dock. That one will cost about €50,-
Maybe I forgot something, so questions... please ask!
Images are really large so I just linked to them:

Nice heads-up
Have you actually had the chance to play with a HC Prime before?
If so can you tell us if you noticed differences in speed and all those things?
I am pretty sure we can re-activate that dev-mode via custom ROMs
Did you see whether that powersaving - contrast reducing - broken feature when changing to powersave mode is present in ICS?
How about the custom Quicksettingsbar, does it look like the HC one?
Yes I have one myself and they had a few HC versions there too Sadly I did not noticed alot of speed differences between HC and ICS. Neither did other people who were testing them. It was still really smooth however, maybe the transitions were bit smoother than HC and the browser was a big improvement (no lag ). Also the keyboard lag was almost gone completely. But in terms of speed that was it, I think. Keep in mind that this was still a development version It did had alot less FCs than HC.
The quick settings bar was exactly the same as in the HC version (but with the Roboto font). I do not know about the power-saving feature, did not really paid attention to that but I did not see anything bad or funny happen when I switched to it (it did reduced the brightness like normal)...
dev mode
there are other things for dev mode like power saving being disabled, no timeout for screen and wifi always on, that sort of thing.

Nice to hear. Dev versions are normally way slower than release builds. So if the dev version runs the same speed we can be pretty sure ICS won't leave much place for complaints

Yea but those things are normal for any Android device. But ICS has way more options, that's pretty cool
Bedankt!
Did they also tell if the OC function was going to be a option in the final version which we get via OTA? Would be pretty cool, less need to root/unlock at least.

Nope, but I tested it with both my HC version, the HC version they have there and the ICS version and they there was almost no impact on WIFI performance when bluetooth was on and vice versa. Wifi was fine during the party but they also placed one of their high end routers in the center of the room
flight777 said:
It was still really smooth however, maybe the transitions were bit smoother than HC and the browser was a big improvement (no lag ).

I think the Prime on HC is plenty smooth and fast in general and don't really expect much improvement from ICS in this regard. However, if ICS manages to make for a better stock browsing experience, I think it'll pretty much live up to my expectations.
Good to hear. Hopefully my unit will not have any problems.
Did they already fix the hdmi audio issue, multi channel only relaying to left speaker?

Yah I agree. The speed is top notch. The smoothness is just a bit below ipad standards but its fairly marginal and doesn't effect actual usage. I have been pleasantly surprised with the speed and even smoothness of HC after hearing so many complaints about it on tegra 2 and other devices. Heck even text input for me has been very good.
I wonder if they fixed:
1. browser bookmarks sync function, which simply does NOT work
2. battery details on apps in the settings does not work. We need to see app battery usage, not just system processes. ICS has a greatly advanced function they showed at the ICS conference, it better make it into the tablet and Asus better have improved the kernel to collect and display the data with the cool new ICS battery usage display
3. we need more and better widgets as the selection is a joke
YES! I love posts like these from people on the inside. Another reason to love xda so much. I'm really interested in that Dev. overclocking mode. if its said it can easily be clocked over 1.4Ghz then with developers here we might could possibly see 2Ghz or a lil higher. of course stability and heat is a major factor. This is all great news. plus I like how they said they will still release software updates to improve GPS as best as possible. ICS sounds like its nice also. Thanks again for this info OP. Prime seems to get better by the day. Plus I got my NEODROID(NeoGeo emulator) installed. we on a roll
edit: I wonder if those overclocks are across the board, all 4 cores, or on a single core. regardless it'll be faster n more powerful. I WANT IT NOW! lol

you're not going to notice the problem with Bluetooth and Wifi both just enabled. When Bluetooth is turned-on but nothing paired and in-use for then it is just as good as being off.
You have to pair a Bluetooth device and operate it in conjunction with the Wifi,
the best way is to stream something like video (i.e. Netflix, Youtube, Hulu, Amazon) on the Prime and listen to it in stereo with some stereo Bluetooth headphones. You're going to notice the problem in 1-3 minutes.
i really wonder if we can use all5 cores at once lol!

Hi guys,
I went to Best Buy yesterday and got to try your Asus Prime. Wow! I was impress by the speed and the Ics. I was gonna buy it but they freshed out.
However, I did some reading on your Q&A add I see that the little ***** is giving you some trouble. Is it that bad, is it happening to everybody? I currently own a gtb 7510. Is not bad. I have a custom rom Task14 and oc'd to 1.4 with petshoots kernel. Still, the Asus is pretty impressive with its speed is very responsive and the display is beautifull.
Gtap is ok but its still not @ par with the ipad2. I think the asus prime (the one I tried) does size up to the ipad3.
So, is everyone here having issues with the ATP?
Thank you.
Edit- I'm asking all this because I'm still on time to return my gtab.

welll for me my Asus TF Prime been good do far. Had it for about 3 weeks.
I'm in the UK btw.
Everything is working and running smoothly on this tablet. No crashes whatsoever.
I guess it depends are lucky you are. For me I am lucky i have a 100% perfect Tablet.
But then every product I have brought by far has been good to me apart from the dell streak 5 which lasting for 2 monthes the screen suddenly broke!
I say go ahead buy this tablet, You won't regret it. Did I mention that this tablet looks sexy too!
It does look sexy!
It sure runs everything you throw at it.
I got 1080p .mkv files to play which I couldn't on my first Transformer.
It runs my playstation games great too (emu)
Wireless gamepad (BT) on the go. I am using the ps3 pad.
I do use onlive on my tablet and it is amazing.
Free splashscreen software which I stream my pc desktop to my Prime at times. Can play CS:S on it lol
web surfing is fine by far. No hipcups.
Incredible super IPS+. Makes this look comparable to the new ipad with the brightness full & IPS+
I would use my Prime to type on here but I am currently using it to watch the Engadget podcast lol
Using the keyboard dock is nice. typing won't be as good as what you get on your keyboard but will pass. the batt is amazing. Surfing the net, checking my email, movie watching (1-2) will last me a whole day. when I am playing games and watching movies (2-3), listening to music it will last about 5-6 hours for me. ALL THESE NOT DOCKING THE TABLET INTO THE KEYBOARD DOCK.

I got mine 1 week ago in Germany, got a C20 serial, and it works perfectly, the GPS is not the best one i have used but does works. Locks relative fast to 10 sat's with no wifi.
Wifi is fast, i get all my 32mb internet speed while testing with Speedtest.net, Bluetooth works wonders.
While using BT a2dp and wifi my internet does get slow but the connection never drops.
Screen quality is amazing and using EZOverclock increased the Performance speed to 1.6ghz making video and gaming experience really good.
I'm very happy with my transformer, I'd buy it again without even thinking.
Edit: video and gaming was perfect even before OC, i just wanted the extra power ^^
It has been a great experience for me. I have no problems with my device. It has nice feel about it and your hands will seldom get tired of holding it with extended use. The battery just keeps going and going.
Mine has also been great and is an early one. Everything works fine and even got gps locks the one time I tested it, haven't needed it since so it has been off for months. Wifi is fine on it so have absolutely no complaints, I really enjoy it.
get it! lol. had my prime since 12/22 and hasn't let me down yet. been using it nonstop. I came fro IOS/Ipad to the prime. The difference in speed, power, and everything is night n day better than my Ipad. if you get one now, chances very slim to get one with issues some experienced. its more than worth it. I'm still amazed at how well mines work and how thin and light this tablet is. plus the battery lasts long as a mofo.
Get it, its a great device I'm really pleased with mine. No issues with it although this is number 3. First 2 had bright spots on the screen when using a white background so make sure u check the screen very closely right away

I'm really pleased with my Prime. I do get the occasional browser stutter but, apart from that, performance has been fine. I would say that it seemed more reliable once I took Chrome off and re-installed Flash (but this may just be coincidence!). GPS performance is the same as for other people i.e. iffy at best!
Only complaints from me are stock browser stutter, WiFi performance drops off considerably if I use my PS3 controller via BT at the same time, and screen glare (this thing is shiny)!
So I just use another browser besides stock, and use the controller with games that don't need WiFi, or if they do, I switch to my Logitech usb controller.
I've had mine for about 3 weeks, and just had a random reboot last night. I'm completely fine with that, my iPad 2 had a few random reboots in it's time as well.
I installed an anti-glare screen, which works fine.
The keyboard dock is great..!
The only issues I've had with my tablet were caused from unstable custom ROMs like CM9 KANG and AOKP Milestone 4. I'm currently running stock and haven't had any issues. I'll be waiting until an official build of AOKP or CM9 comes to the Prime before switching back away from stock.

The issues with the Prime are fairly overblown.
Most people don't have a single complaint with regards to their Prime. The vast majority of people who come to XDA looking to talk about the Prime are people who are having some kind of issue they want to resolve and aren't really representative of the overall community or Prime owners.
My experience is that WiFi is just fine. Nearly as good as my Windows laptop and better than my Galaxy S2 phone. It even works well when I am streaming music to a set of Bluetooth headphones.
I have a very slight light bleed in one corner that is only noticeable on the boot screen. However compared to my Dell laptop the light bleed would probably be considered non-existent. Viewing angles, color, saturation etc are all very good.
GPS doesn't work for Navigation which is why Asus removed it from the feature list, however it works perfectly fine for location-based services like Search.
In general there is nothing to complain about. The Prime is very good product and it has basically replaced my laptop as my go-to device for web browsing, email and light office work. If you combine it with the keyboard dock it is an even more useful device and battery life is stellar when compared to any similar laptop/tablet.
I honestly believe that the Prime is one of the best and most useful tablet devices available right now. The only reason that I might want to wait on purchasing it is to see what the TF Infinity will be like. The TF Infinity should be nearly identical to the Prime, but will have a better screen and possible better GPS. It will also cost $100 more.

You have to remember that the people complaining are a small fraction of the total userbase.
The problem with internet ratings is that when you have a problem, you'll be dam sure to look it up and post in the appropriate forum, blog, website.. whatever.
If you have no issue, why would you bother to look for the websites?
My prime is awesome, no issues whatsoever.
I'm only here because I happen to develop some minor stuff for another device on Android and now own a prime. but I'm the small percentage saying this thing rocks.

No matter which XDA Device thread you read, you will be scared to hell. I mean if I would have a problem with my TFP I would post here, because there are tons of competent people around here.
Never fix your buy-decision on the xda threads of the device. I was happy with the last 3-4 phones I've had, but when I check the xda forums for them it seems like I'm the only one who was happy at all
Hello guys,
I just wanted to know how your Xperia Z Ultra is!
I've been a Xperia P, Z user for about a year now, but now I'm looking forward for some Phablets!
I own a IPad 4 but it is too heavy to carry or to read something! So I planned to buy a Phablet!
Please let me know your true experience with your Z Ultra,
Please write battery life, performance, gaming and everything u feel bout it!
Also if you can compare with other Phablets then how many ratings out of 10 will u give?
Try with these :-
Samsung Galaxy Mega
HTC One Max
IPad Mini with Retina
Thank you.
Also if you have any other Phablets you know then please write it down!
I'm looking for 6' and more inch Phablet, not 5 so don't suggest Xperia Z1 lol!
Battery life is pretty good I use mine quite abit throughout day. Performance is good. Can get annoying with widget redraws but not enough to annoy me that much. Gaming is good I play fifa. Gta. And fm2014. All run great. I do like the design. I don't like sound quality but then again its waterproof which makes that a problem. Camera is poor as no flash. Ideally I would love the htc one max. As having a HTC one and this XZU. I would rather sell up just for a HTC one max.
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
Well if you want the biggest phablet the ultra is king. But don't count on the camera. It's ok to take ok pictures. Men I love my ultra! I don't care for the camera or flash. Big screen and power love it.....
the Z Ultra is something for you, if:
-you have a big Pocket
-looking for a Phablet that has nearly the graphical and CPU power of an PS3 (just 15% of graphical power behind it)
-like big screens
-want to use nearly everything for the Touchscreen
-you already killed a Phone whith water
the Z Ultra isnt something for you, if:
-u need more than 11GB for Apps (than buy an Galaxy note 3 instead)
-you want to shoot Photos whith it
-your Pocket is too small
-you want to change the battery
and if the battery live isnt enugh you also can upgrade to 6050mAh whith an CP12, when this isnt enugh look for a cable which should direct you to a Desktop PC, thats using your Battery Live to run Battlefield 4 on Ultra graphics .
Thanks alot guys! Appreciate it!
Your suggestions mean alot to me
Ok u guys say camera is a bit dull but it's Ok as I just need for reading purpose!
Btw r there any special specific books for this device?
Coz I don't like the ones present in play store!
And what do u think should I go for it? Or u think Sony will release any other Phablet soon?
I saw Xperia T2 ultra but it's specs aren't as good as Z Ultra and I love Sony phones look so I don't feel like going for samsung!
HTC One Max is pretty good so let me hear some reviews from u guys!
Again thanks.

Btw why there is so huge difference between HTC One Max nd Z Ultra Cost?
As far as I know Z Ultra offers more space but HTC One Max seems to be more costlier!
and if you mean the weight its just 250g much better than your Tablet.

Or use Folder Mount and move the game data to an external SD card
So the Ultra is a fantastic choice if you can handle the size.
I came from a Note 2 so I was already used to big phones but this is a league above that still.
It fits in your pockets if you need to, just dont look too awesome but for me I normally carry my phones any way and have a Pouch Case in case I need it for any reason as well.
As for performance, I love the Stock 4.3 Sony Roms. It is the best stock Rom I have ever tried on any phone. I just used some apps to modify things and remove ones I didnt care for to make it my own custom rom in a way.
Games run fantastic unless it is something horrible coded for Snapdragon. Emulators are super smooth as well.
The display quality is very detailed and aside from not having super deep blacks like Amoled, I prefer the quality of it.
The only drawbacks to me personally, are the battery not being replaceable and the lack of a flash (for flashlight purposes not for camera usage).
The camera is not the greatest but it can do a decent job if you shoot manually adjusting ISO.
Sound is not super clear but as mentioned, it is water proof so there is a tradeoff there of course.
The phone just feels AMAZING to hold specially naked (the phone not you!).
The small apps are also very nice to use the display for multi tasking and you can create them from your app widgets which is also nice.
Reading PDFs on it is very good at least to my eyes.
Good luck!

Never had issues with overheating with it and the self touch issues from that I have read seems to have been fixed with latest ROM updates. Mine never had that issue but I upgraded right after I got it.
Not so sure about cold issues, I live in Utah so during the worst part of the winter we got about -14F and never noticed anything wrong with it although I didnt actively stayed outside to get frozen for too long so not sure

I personally love Readmill. It's cross-platform, so you can get it on iOS too, and it also syncs between devices (i.e start reading on your iPad and resume on your [insert device]). It's a nice app if you have epubs etc. stored locally (on SD card/internal memory), but it doesn't have a large in-app store if that's your thing.
Regarding the One Max, meh. It's big and all, but it's hardly a phablet. It's more like a big phone and it's exactly like the One, but bigger. No special features or anything. The Ultra on the other hand is a phablet with a big P. The UI is properly sized for its screen size, while the Max' UI is just blown up. Again, it's a large phone.
I'm having some "issues" with my Ultra though. You've probably read my post about the screen acting up when it's cold outside. It doesn't affect its usability though, but it just looks weird for a minute. I haven't read about anyone else having this issue, so i'm assuming it's a production error from Sony's side.
Battery life is pretty good. I didn't expect anything amazing since it's so thin, but i got properly surprised. Here's a screenshot from yesterday. I watched tv shows all day, watched a movie (Bad Grandpa), browsed, read some news (with Press) messed with some camera modules and so on. That's how long the screen was on, not the device itself. Not bad for a 6.4mm thick device with a full HD display. It'll last even longer if you're big on reading ebooks. It tends to only drop about 1% from i go to bed to i wake up (8 hours) with Stamina enabled (cuts apps' data connection while in standby, unless you whitelist some apps).
Camera? Don't go to a Victoria's Secret party expecting amazing photos and memories. They'll probably end up looking like manatees. Fine, it's not that bad, but there's a lot of noise in them, so it's absolutely not the go-to camera if it's a little dark, or even dim. It performs okay in daylight though.
Screen? It's really good. You're not used to AMOLEDs(?) since you're coming from an iPad, so it doesn't have the deep blacks, but the colors are much much better and more true to life. I don't think you'll have any complaints.
Audio? It's not a boomblaster, but it does its job (for me at least). Most people tend to forget that the built-in equalizer has an option called "xLOUD" and it'll boost the speaker volume. It's really loud (for me) when xLOUD is enabled, and i have never ever pushed the volume to max.
Software? I like it. It's stable and fairly lightweight (compared to TouchWiz and whatever that 10 year old designed for LG) and very fast. It has "Small apps" which are small floating apps, that floats on top of whatever you're doing. Writing an email and want to check the curling score (go Norway!), hit the multitasking button and hit the "small browser", and BOOM! A tiny browser window opens up on top of your email, and you're free to read about Canada's loss without leaving the email app.
Yes, i'm the guy who only want to share or say one short thing, but goes way beyond that and writes a novel. I wanted to mention Readmill, and look at this.. it's the work of a madman (@shaolin95 totally knows what i'm talking about). Sorry!
I have a ZU and love it!!! I came from a note 2 and was gonna go for a note 3 but the ZU is just plain sexy and is a beast.
Im also in Canada so the waterproofing also works in snow (Ive dropped a few cells in snow banks and such)
Its a killer device, great on the eyes and is perfect for some one like me who gave up there cell and 7in tablet for this.
