If I was to change the icon of an app manually, would the app icon change back upon update of said app or do only the files that are newer get changed in the app? Hence technically the app icon, once changed will remain that way permanently?
Also, is there an easier way than using an apk editing tool to edit the app icons?

So basically you ressurected a dead thread because you don't pay attention to all these flashable mod zips or ask the devs behind the mods. Ppl edit the apks, repack the apks, and flash it to their device via cwm, and see the change that they made.
Download from source and edit prior to packing the apk?

Does anyone know how to get rid of the keyboard tray icon? I'm tired of accidentally bumping it when I start typing too fast. Seems like it would be an android system option but no option to hide it.

Has an option to remove the notification (if I correctly understand your question)
I might have to try that out. I've done well without rooting my prime so far but this might convince me otherwise. I might still wait for the bootloader unlock tool first. Thanks for the advice.

This notification only shows up when there's more then one keyboard installed. And since there IS more then one keyboard installed (the stock Android one and the ASUS keyboard) it will always show up. So the only option get rid of it is to uninstall the stock Android keyboard (you don't want uninstall the ASUS keyboard unless you don't own the keyboard dock).
Gotcha, well that sucks. Personally i prefer thumb keyboard but I don't think i'll go through the hassel of removing the others. Could come with future complications if I do that. I just dont understand the necessity for the taskbar icon. You can just as easily go into settings and change it.

Hi All,
For those that don't feel like messing with the uot Kitchen to change their status bar icons, etc., I've discovered that ROM Toolbox Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolboxpro&hl=en) works. I've been able to successfully change my battery icon.
I'm rooted on Stock Razr Maxx ROM. Can't confirm or deny it works on anything else.
Happy tweaking!
thanx will try to confirm on GSM RAZR
I have used JRummy's toolbox before to change the system fonts-it has some cool fonts- and it worked after reboot-had some problems with some fonts not scaling to fit inside widgets such as weather widget, chose another font for that. I was reluctant, however, to try and change the status bar icons using tool box. But if it worked for you, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work on my RAZR.
screw this or screw sassybob now that is the question
Did not go well for me. I now have an icon that doesn't work, and I can't restore original, or get anything else to load and replace it.

Sorry to hear it didn't work. There should be an option in the app to restore back to the original icon. Assuming you made a backup of your ROM, I suppose worst case scenario, you could just do a restore through Safestrap.
The restore didn't work. I thought I had made a nandroid backup, but apparently not, couldn't find it. I was able to change a few status bar things, but the battery icon is whack. It randomly toggles between 2 icons, one I had selected, the other I just previewed. Very strange. I tried to use UOT and I get the "0" error, can't figure out how to get that to work...oh well.
Worked great for me. I replaced all of my icons. They seem to "ghost" after they disappear, but clear up as soon as you slide it down.
Hi I need help on this one I wanted to replace the stock phone icon with this one. I replaced all the phone icons in the Sec phone.apk with 7zip on my pc then I moved it to system/app on my phone but I still have the stock icon. What else do I need to change? TIA

Seriously, which status bar icons? The notification pull down bar? They can be different on each rom, and are customized by many. If you are rooted, which ROM are you running? Or just stock? If you use Safestrap, are you in a "slot" or stock spot? If in a slot, you can boot into stock, connect phone to pc, and find what you want.
My notification bar icons are from the app I choose (for example, my "text bubble" notification is the one from the Verizon Messages app, not the stock sms....)
If it isn't the notification bar you are talking about, please be more specific...

I am talking about stock everything except but I changed some of the stock icons, and I want the stock ones back. If someone could backup the stock icons using ROM toolbox pro and send them to me that is what I want. Also I meant the system icons like WiFi and vibrate.

Sorry. I have the xt912. But you can find your stock rom, download it on pc, find the icons, and put on phone. Or use Titanium Backup to back up everything. Then do a nandroid backup of your current setup. Factory reset the phone. Icons will be there now. You have 2 options now. You can then find them and move them to SD card. Then, reboot into recovery and restore your "backup". Find your icons on SD card and install/replace over the ones you don't want. Option 2 is after the Factory reset, set up phone again, using TiBu to install apps and data. I would go that route, as you are using stock anyway. You would just need to sign into your Google account. If you use a custom Launcher, TiBu restores that as well... All data from your apps (log-ins/passwords/etc....) are restored via TiBu.

Yes, but my phone is rooted and has a custom ROM in Stock. It is 4.4.4....As I said, nothing "stock" about it. Try my suggestions. If I come across anything, I will post it here.
