Right now I'm on my 2nd Galaxy Nexus (Samsung replaced my 1st one after much messing, it popped n died)
And while I like its vanilla ICS, I'm having big issues over usability due to nothing more than its screen size of 4.65"
On my old HTC Incredible S 4" I could "dance" with my thumb and get around the OS very very quickly.
Every time I stop by a cellphone store and play with the Lumia 800 it fits perfect and I get that "dance" feeling with the ways its in my hand and the speed I can get around the OS.
I'm liking WMP 7.5 a lot.
The sticking point.
Where I live there is no broadband, so I have the true "all you can eat" data plan from "three" that included tethering.
I also have line of sight of just over 100 yards to a celltower I know is "three" and can hit 8mbps average and sometimes hit 11mbps.
Am I being foolish on planning on getting a Lumia 800 with the WiFi tether when the updates is fullt rolled out and selling the GN?
You've got to get the phone that turns you on. Once tethering is available on the Lumia... if you're still madly in love with it and can accept its shortcomings.... then go with what you love.
I have to admit that most of the phones I've ever bought have been for their design aesthetic over their function or specs.
You're also asking this question in a forum where 95% of people here use the Lumia 800, so you are going to get a pretty biased answer. I can already tell you most people will say get the Lumia.
Get the phone that suits you. If you do enjoy Windows Phone and the Lumia 800 hardware, I see no reason not to get the phone unless there is something you need on the GN/Android that Windows Phone can't accomplish for you at the moment.
Probably better to answer the question in a general forum rather than one specific to a device, but even there, you'll probably start a nice little flame war from both sides saying the other one sucks. XD

You're completely right about screen size. This must vary with the size of a persons hands but for me the maximum screen size that doesn't have usability issues is 4in like the Galaxy S.
The HD7 at 4.3in caused me the same issues as you've found.
I've had a play with the Galaxy Nexus and it's a very nice piece of kit but after using the Lumia it's clear to see that the lags are still there even on a flagship phone. The Lumia is really slick and fast. I can see why you like it. I liked it so much I ditched my Galaxy S which was running ICS.
It's the best phone I've had since my iPhone. And for my money it's a nicer piece of hardware than the current iPhone design. The OS is great too, apart from a few areas where it's lacking.
The downsides are the current issues with battery life and audio quality. You're putting trust in Nokia to sort these out with software updates. Battery life in particular is a real worry, I expect to charge every day but it's struggling to get through the day which means I don't use it as much as I'd like to.
It's not foolish to get something that will (might?) work better for you. The GN is much more powerful, but if it's too big for you to use comfortably, there is not a lot you can do.
I'm a cheap whore myself and I flop between WP/ICS/MeeGo and iOS on a daily basis. The Lumia is spectacular hardware and Mango is a fantastic OS. Grab one and play with both, each has it's own set of strengths and weaknesses.

Ask the shop if you can test one out for a day?
they tend not to allow that
as we all know 5 minutes of fiddling in a shop is not enough
24 hours would be and ideal test.

I've got the lumia and the GN. The form factor and build quality of the Nokia are excellent, and the interface is really smooth and a joy to use, but ...and it's a big but for me .....it desperately needs more apps. I'm not going give up on the lumia just yet, but there is no way I'd ditch my GN, or android, for the lumia at the moment.

I agree with the previous posts. The Lumia 800 is brilliant. Smooth as silk, and quick. Software updates seem to have fixed my battery and wifi issues.
But we are now almost in March - and still no tethering, and nokia Austria says there never will be on the Lumia 800.
So you do have to factor that into your decision.

Because of the apps factor, I tried to do the following:
Start to use only apps of my android (more than 200) that are in the WP market also. And I realized that I have everything I need for my work in motion.
The apps that are only in android but I want them are: skype, viber, dropbox, box.
I am sure they will be able soon, but anyway, WP has SkyDrive.
Instead most of the android apps we need just good browser.
I am sure the real software will be written for WP... soon I hope.

There's another post where someone said that another branch of Nokia has said that tethering will come in 2012.
So clearly, there has been no official stance on whether tethering will or won't be added to the phone, but I see no reason why it can't be added due to the phone's internals.
Nokia just needs to turn it on.

now... to the topic, i own the motorola atrix and i think its a great device, fast and fun, i can do whatever i want, but i dont like some stuff, like the wake up lag (i think it can be fixed only unmounting the SD card), the fact that it reboot randomly and the locked bootloader, now, i knoe that there r some guys trying to unlock it and i think someone posted a way to flash full roms but didnt understud how to do it.
Now i can get the SGS2 really cheap, but i havent seen it on the street to test it or anything, dont know the problems that it have and dont know which phone will be better running the same rom (lets say CM7).
so i have that problem, what do you think?
I think you are not asking how we like the MB860/Atrix as your title suggests, but rather asking us if you should buy the SGS2!

If you are looking for justification of owning both devices, I say do it! My friends ask me why I need more than one phone and I laugh at them. My reply is always, "Why not?". Then I proceed to show the differences between devices, pros and cons of each. Its just fun, and a hobby. Is that what you were fishing for?
Side note: NO more random reboots for me! Ever since I uninstalled the horrible horrible LP+, I haven't seen a reboot (or graphical shell crash, whichever it is) in 10+ days. Ditch the LauncherPro! It sucks on the Atrix! Maybe I should find more threads and inform them of my experience.?.
Edit: Ive also never experienced wake up lag. Ever.

The only gripe is the locked bootloader, so there hasn't been an explosion of kernels and roms for it, which is a shame

The fingerprint reader I use all the time and probably couldn't do without it once I've had it.
Its a very powerful device, and the Full Ubuntu customization makes it so it can replace netbooks for a lot of people. Since I like almost everything in it, lets say what I dont:
Its looks.
It appears ordinary. TOO Ordinary. I'm on the subway, holding a phone more powerful than all others in the train combined, but if anyone looks at it, it just screams "mid-end".
Its back cover.
It's extremelly slippery. Of all the phones I've owned in 8 years, this one I let slip and fall to the floor more times in two months than any other during the one year I've owned each. That's about 20 falls now and counting.
And, of course, the locked bootloarder.
Motoblur isn't as bad to me as most others, as I like the contacts integration and the phone location without the need to download third party apps. But unlocking the webtop was a MAJOR headache for someone who knew NOTHING of Linux.
Now, on comparison, the SG2 has a bigger screen, a better contrast, a more powerful core, and a different look that may appeal to many people. However, it doesnt have the Lapdock, which can matter a lot or absolutely nothing, depending on what you think of it. And it has a different UI which you may like better or not. Also, It's pixel density is much lower.

I have a love hate relationship with it. Its my first android. I gave my i4 to my wife. I love the size/form factor. Battery, call quality, web surfing are good. I think the gps, combined with cardock and vlingo in car is superb.

Text and sites look pretty good, but pixelation is evident on homescreen wallpapers and widgets. The 5mp camera blows. The video recording is great IF you have good lighting.
I have been able to achieve 7.19 mb down in certain parts of houston. Other places are random 3g.
Pretty pissed moto hasn't released GB.
Accessories are fatally overpriced.
I've played with a lapdock. Great build quality, crappy performance. Webtop mod on tv is cool, but gimicky.
Biggest gripe though is my battery cover creaks a lot. I had to put tapw on the inside to make it feel solid and sound quiet.
However through updates/future mods/and using a case all of my complaints are easily erased. The atrix was released way too early. Maybe att pushed moto. If the phone had landed in late July with everything working and updated, I think it would have had the launch it deserves.
Not sure it will survive the HTC holiday and Lead. And the Droid Bionic and some new sprint phone appear to be atrix rev 2 with everything good to go at launch.

I love my Atrix. Yes, it's buggy at times, but it doesn't give me a fraction of the frustration that my old iPhone gave me.
Once I get to college, I'll be right in Atlanta's HSPA+ coverage area, so I'll expect some awesome data speeds there. We should have Gingerbread by then as well.
i like the atrix, its a challenge at the moment with us having 2nd init and trying to make custom roms keeps me entertain for hours
I owned both the Atrix and SGS2. I kept the Atrix. SGS2 was a dissappointment. Actually im not sure why people make such a fuss about it. Ateix has better sound, better sprakerphone, better resolutipn etc. Worst part is the battery lfe on SGS2 . Absolutely awful. Often lasted less than 6 hours. Sure its powerful but what's the point id you can't use that power or have tobfreeze most of the Apps in order to get through the day. I just didn't feel I could rely on it.
Atrix isn't perfect (yet). But its overall combination is great.

I love my Atrix. The only flaws with it are the bootloader (which has been mostly worked around thanks to 2nd init, now we just wait for someone to develop a CM7 rom for it) and the fact that the screen cant show gradients well. The battery life is outstanding, text is crisp, nothing slows it down (...except live wallpapers, but I suspect Motoblur at work there, so moot point after roms) and the call quality is great.
As for the rebooting, its either something you installed or you got a faulty device and need to exchange it.
I cant say anything about the Galaxy S, but there's nothing I've seen that would justify changing phones from the Atrix.

I hate my atrix. One min its fast and responsive, the next its like running windows 95 on a 486 with 24mb of ram. My data connection randomly times out and the screen is crap.
I want to like this phone, especially after seeing 2.3 on the X and how responsive it is but I have a feeling im going to get let down. Im tired of waiting endlessly for the next version of android that's supposed to magically make everything better, or hope the community will pick up the slack.
I just hope I can convince my wife to give up her pink pantech dumbphone for the atrix so I can get an iphone 5 when its released.

I miss winmo sense on the hd2 as well! I thought it was the best version of sense. I didn't have to do anything to it except mYbe one mid to add extra icons tobthe home screen. I ovetflashed my hd2 and eventually the battery points broke don removing ; replacing batteries so often when flashing! So I can't even get it to work anymite just to play with it to see how it used to look.
Anyone out there figured out how to Make WINMO sense for android?
(Just looked back at my spelling. Man the Atrix keyboard is awful!)

wow, really? That's my launcher of choice and my atrix has NOT ONCE did a random reboot. It feels faster with launcher pro plus than with any other launcher.
I mostly like the atrix. Only have a few issues with mine. The hard lock button wears out really quick. Mine has pretty much lost all of its spring. I dont know if its the phone or the market, but google market wont connect intermittently. For "4g" it really feels like 3g. The form factor is boring. Lastly the locked bootloader.
I was actually looking at the xperia arc. That thing looks slick. Not dual core but honestly til the OS is optimized for dual cores, its not that important. My nexus one is as fast if not faster then my atrix. i really like how SE altered the UI.
i doo love my atrix, its a great phone and i think ill keep it until gingerbread and see how it works, but as soon as Entel (my carrier) get stock on the SGS2 ill buy it cos it will cost me like $60 and i can sell it for like $800 if it is unlocked for all companies

I love mine. I bought it March 3rd and I have yet to put it down. I love tinkering and changing things. Yes, the bootloader is locked, but devs are working on ways around that as I type. I am running Gingerblur 4.5 and never have/had any of the issues you describe. My buddy has the SGII that he paid like 800 for. Got it from the UK. I played with it...and I wasn't too impressed. It was right out of the box and he has since changed a lot. Atrix feels just right to me. As soon as we can bypass BL and GB is officially OTA'd it will get even better.

It's too small, the display is not flat. It has no FFC and the memory is limited to 16GB. It's also one of the thickest phones around. And it isn't aluminum.

i understand why you and some people would say about the size memory and ffc though for me i think the size is great as with my hd7 i did find my trouser pulled where is was so huge. ffc i dont think will get used anything like the amount ppl complain about it not being there. Mem is fair i would of wanted more but plus sides out weigh this.
HOWEVER not being aluminum is nothing but one of the best things to happen to this phone. Its a single moulded peice of polycarbonate so it will feel stirdier than any metal phone as well as having the advantage of 1. not showing scratches and most important 2 it does not mess up the antenna so your signal will be massivly improved. I do not get how anybody could consider this a bad thing at all but rather the best thing to ever happen to a phone.

yes when you can scroll though a grid of icons, yes i see thats so much better whilst watching your battery drain away.
My opinion is this is the best looking phone since the nokia 8850. That with amazing build and one of the best screens on any device makes this a must have. Then add the extra Nokia features plus the great camera not the best no, but up there and at a price point that makes iPhone look even more stupidly overpriced make this a true winner

I know it sucks esp as i am scrapping the walls already and i get mine in 2 days (one way or another) but if i lived in the USA i would advise waiting for the new year. I very strongly suspect they will bring a different version of the Lumia 800 with improved specs ie ffc and 32/64gb. I remember reading they said they will be bringing out top spec devices in usa in q1. I also suspect you will get a look in first at the 900/ace/champaign. Its a bit like htc with the hd2 you had to wait but you got the good stuff.
I just feel that unless you can afford to blow the cash for 2 months of use you will kick yourself for jumping in to early. Plus I dont think you get the full data speeds on t-mobile but that i am unsure of.

it really is beautiful. amoled looks great at first sight. (on second sight the letters dont look "clean"). its really fast. compared to the titan it seems much snappier when scrolling trough the ui.
however its so tiny.. i cant imagine to use it for long web-browsing sessions.
also.. 16gb non expandable is a joke these days. With 64GB i would have bought it instantly. Being one sexy music player could be a good selling point..
so na i guess i pass on this generation of wp..
This Phone is just gorgeous! Got it yesterday and everyone i showed i to, was impressed about the build quality and about the design, even hardcore iPhone and Apple fans.
The N9 might have more features, but it is really expensive and it was dead before even released. MeeGo is dead, so i don't care about the N9.

People just say this rubbish because its thein thing to say or like anything that results in a direct diss to Microsoft. It is a worrying trend esp when even with all there faults, and there are many, Microsoft is still the best option for most. At the end of the day it is the end users that miss out and we will all miss out big style if it continues. Even MS cant take this bad attitude towards it for ever and that will lend us to a world dominated by apple clones and/or software made in peoples bedrooms. I love android i love linux but could i live with just them all the time? Not a chance. Like it or not MS is leading the way in the tech world with everything from office 365 to windows 8 to xbox live to exchange to hyperV etc. What would the world be like without then? We geeks would be fine we have linux but what about my mum and my sister etc? what about me trying to administer our network without active directory and group policy? Everyone says MS steals technology yet we keep forgeting they are normally the first to come with it they just get beat down or mess it up but they ae there pushing forward and inovating. Windows phone is just one example along with Windows 8 of how MS is set to change the game for the better if only we let them.

There are two major and two minor issues I have with this phone.
First is Pentile. There are two types of people - those who see it and those who don't. I do, so I was thinking about returning the phone at first. Now I'm sort of living with it, but still black text on white background looks like crap to me.
Second is no equalizer.
The two minor issues are the fact that the USB port is located on top of the device and that it has a lid. This is less annoying than Pentile but still very awkward.
Otherwise it's a great phone.

I am changing (maybe)... Well I'll get my Lumia in a few days and will use it about 1-2 Weeks and then look what I like more... I'm changing from Galaxy Note. If you got any chance to buy a Lumia, with return right, than I would recommend you to do the same thing... Use it a little bit and decide yourself. Everybody has his own taste in Smartphones. As you can see from my sig I have used iOS and Android plenty. I just picked up my 920 today coming from Galaxy S3. I am happy with my decision. The 920 feels more refined, smoother, and overall a better user experience in my opinion.
The screen on the Lumia is hands down the best I have used on a smartphone. Colors are great, super bright and functional in sunlight (unlike HTC screens, and even better than Note/AMOLED screens).
The camera is awesome, software and hardware.
Nokia maps functions great so far, but I've only had the phone for 6 hours so need more time there, as well as seeing how battery and overall cell service stacks up.
So far download speeds seem to be eating my GS3 alive, but thats just from download apps so nothing conclusive.
While a little on the heavy side, its worth it. The phone feels very well constructed and SOLID.
The browser is one of the fastest mobile experiences I think I have ever experienced.

Also you add your gmail account and it pulls in all your contacts (sync not just a copy), Gmail, and calendars. So easy as pie there.
I tried out the Note II, HTC 8X, and iPhone 5 while I was there. From research and my phone preference I pretty much had my decision down to Note II or Lumia 920 before I got there but I still gave the other 2 a little of my time as well just to be sure. The Note II looks amazing, it feels good, and is definitely a REALLY nice phone. I loved my Note but within a few seconds of holding the Note II I was sure that as much as I love the large screen, I don't really like carrying around a phone that size all the time. Also while the Note II was pretty smooth, I still felt WP8/Lumia 920 overall is a smoother experience. No lag/buggy/glitchy/etc...
2 negative experiences with the Lumia 920 so far:
Speech to text is ... bad. I've never been a big fan anyway, but this one works worse than S-Voice to say the least.
Gmail contacts sync does not appear to sync phone numbers marked as "other". IE I had a contact named Tyler, the contact, his picture all came over, but no phone number as I had his cell saved as "other". I had to go through my contacts and change any from Other to Mobile and they all came right over.
Oh and my last complaint, they didn't get any at my AT&T store in Matte Cyan which is what I really wanted, and they didn't have the wireless charging pads in stock but ordered one for me (free) and it is being shipped to my house directly within a few days. This is my own impatience, and not relative to the phone itself in anyway, but hey it was part of my overall experience .

I have completely moved over to wIndows phone from android and have to admit the Lumia 920 is the best out there ..
I actually got bored of android after three years of flashing and rooting and all that stuff, never seemed to get satisfied and for me camera was very important and the lumia 920 camera is just awesome.
The only thing I miss from android is a native app for google + other than that windows phone syncs all my gmail contacts and emails etc easily and I have to admit the windows phone peoples hub is the best as you can add your facebook and twitter and now linkedin as well and its so perfect that I rarely use the actual facebook or twitter apps.
To cut it short windows phone does everything quicker compared to android for me and I am totally sold. but again it all depends how you use your phone so If you can get your hands on one (maybe a friends where you can play with it at least a couple of hours ) definitely try it before you go for
I had to Galaxy S3 and moved to the lumia 920 and it's just an amazing experience. Being able to try out a different OS and also just how freaking smooth the whole thing is!

It's so tempting to make the switch. Right now I have 3 android devices in the house, and as much as I've appreciated all the wonderful customization and custom ROM's, it's getting a bit old.
The one thing that has me hesitant is the ecosystem. For example, I use memotoo for contact management, as I wanted something that supported all the standards for vcard etc. I sync everything I need to an rsync account via SFTP. Photos currently sync to my account on Photobucket...
You get the point. My stuff is all over the place, and I like the freedom to do that. Now, I imagine I can find apps for most of these things... I just don't like being locked down to a single ecosystem like "live" or "google" or whatever. This is what has me holding back... plus I refuse to give AT&T my money because of their lock policy (and I am on Tmo ).
I'm definitely moving, just tired of android and can't really handle the boringness of ios, have used both and think they already look dated, esp. iOS. My problem with Android on the other hand is the ugly lag that is present even in quad core devices, heck Engadget said even the Nexus 4 occasionally lags + it has a goddamn glass backcover which will totally prevent me from buying it..
The smooth and modern ui, great map services, great camera, great new features overall and the design + development frameworks for WP8 all made me decide to switch. The question for me is whether i should pick the lumia 920 or 820. Having used both, I have to say that I find the 820 more interesting from a design perspective + it feels more comfortable in my hand and I also get all the amazing backcovers. On the other hand I don't get pureview and the really gorgeous display of the 920. We will see :highfive: Oh, and screw HTC and the 8X, it has nothing to offer compared to the Nokia devices and HTC's marketing strategy is just ugly and plain stupid. And that comes from a longtime HTC fan.

I switched from a flakey GSII on at&t...
So far it's amazing... things just work... bluetooth stays connected, doesn't decide after a while to disconnect and suddenly be unable to reconnect...
The phone just works.. with the android phones I've had things have been almost there... there was lots of tweaking going on, with the gsII sometimes I'd feel it in my pocket getting hot and have to check the task manager to see what's going on...
I use exchange for email and the integration is great with that (obviously) also, the exchange admin stuff is better.. I don't have to re-enter the password whenever I use the phone, only if it's been idle for a while (I'm not sure how long yet)... I'm still using Google voice for my voicemail and MetroTalk seems to work well with that... all the other apps I "need" are available too..
...A side note, as weird as this sounds at the moment Microsoft is kind of the lesser of 3 evils

However, it came with a bit of a shock. Basically, you know how Android pretty much allows your phone to be a computer replacement, with all sorts of features from USB OTG to a Linux terminal? Forget it. Windows Phone is actually a phone first - a tool used to communicate with people. And it is AMAZING at that - you have Skype integration, good clients for your social networks.
Of course, it's a smartphone too - so you have a great camera, with a camera button - which mean that you can always access your camera from anywhere. It has Microsoft's official office suite. SkyDrive sync.
So yeah. Windows Phone isn't meant to be a computer replacement, but a companion. And it does its job really well.
Oh, and you may want to get used to multitasking being strange. Just saying.
Ive had numerous androids and 3 iphones before...i just last week purchased the lg optimus g which was a solid phone dont get me wrong it was also the fastest phone i have ever used...but after 7 days i noticed that android just seemed boring to me as well as iphone. Heard the lumia had a lot of hype so i went to pick one up and had it for about 12 hours already and love every second of it. I was worried about the apps but i seem to be doing just fine not worried at all in that aspect. but yes much more limited app selection then android and ios. But im not looking back and im looking foward to a long relationship with my lumia 920.

couldnt have said it better. That was my exact thought. I was looking for a computer replacemnt but then realized i just wanted a phone with a nice os and of course little extras. Thats why windows phone 8 nailed it.

I personally went from SGS2 to Lumia 800 which was a good experience, really. I change phones quite often though (got SGS2 on release, then N9 on release, then won a Lumia 800 around christmas, then got the SGS3 (in... july or so? whenever it was released).
I love the SGS3. It is an AMAZING phone. Screen is great, its fast as hell, looks great, even Touchwiz is quite great on it. Camera is good, fits well in the pocket, batterylife is great... its just a really really awesome device.
However...
I sold mine today. For about half what I bought it for in july.
I love the design of the Lumia 920.
I love the fact that I can charge it wirelessly, having a pad in the bedroom and a fatboy on the armrest of my couch.
I love the fact that I will have a speaker that lets me play music wirelessly by just placing my phone on it, that also charges my phone so it wont run out of juice.
I love the fact that Windows Phone 8 will integrate deeply with Windows 8 which Im enjoying on my stationary computer at the moment, and also to see how that all plays out.
I love Modern UI as done in WP8; its informative without being intrusive, its neat and tidy without being too rigid for personalization, its aestethically nice and functional.
I love the fact that the camera has a floating lens which will make my time ahead with my kittens far more enjoyable to film.
I love the fact that despide their best efforts, none of the competing phones on either platform looks half as good as Nokias unibody design (N9/L800/L900/L920).
I love the black buttons on the side contrasting the white phone with the black screen/bezel.
I love it.

I got my Lumia 920 today in white. I have to say that I am blown away by the build quality.
Overall I am enamoured with the device with regard to its smoothness, typing on the keyboard, the fantastic camera which takes photos in near dark that look as if they were taken in a fully lit room....sadly though I will be returning the device - and it really does sadden me to do so; but here are the reasons:
Facebook and Twitter integration are fine but there is no built-in support for push notifications. I have tried the official apps which suck and pretty much need completely redoing. They just give notifications when they want to. I have found an app called Rowi which makes up for deficiencies in the official Twitter route but am yet to find anything that will give me reliable Facebook notifications or the kind of thorough features available on the Android and iOS versions. On a side note, despite having Facebook Chat integration there seems to be no way to message anyone who isn't online through the Messages app, nor any notification when someone not on my friends list messages me.
Too many missing or poor apps - yes I know this has been said before a billion times but it really hits home when you start using the OS. I don't rely on many apps but there are many I 'like' to have that just aren't there.
overall notification system is a but clunky. WP8 BADLY needs a notification centre. I suppose that would involve getting reliable push notifications working first though.
I will probably come back to WP8 and this device in the future but for now as a familiar user of both iOS and Android i just find it too deficient to stick with in its current incarnation. I am really bored of both of those OS and considered buying a tablet to compliment my 920 but then, should i have to buy other devices to fill in holes in an OS when there are other devices out there that can do everything?
On a final note, anyone who doesn't feel too bothered about the things I do will surely love this device and I'm sure it will sell by the bucketloads but I don't think I'm the only person who would struggle to move to the platform without feeling many a frustration.
Good luck with this though Nokia. I hope MS put as much effort into WP8 as you have into this fantastic device.

From what I understand, all that you listed as your reasons are known shortcomings that have been stated will be addressed. I can completely understand where you are coming from though.
It is frustrating as much as anything especially since they haven't said when those problems will be fixed.
I currently have an Atrix with AT&T. While the phone is a good one, I just can't find a rom I am happy with and Moto has dropped support as well so we are kinda SOL. I have pegged the 920 as my next phone and have been reading extensively about it for weeks and weeks.
My wife (currently on an iPhone 4) and I plan to swap over to the 920 during the BlackFriday specials. I hope much of that is fixed by then, but I think that is wishful thinking....
It is good to hear what people don't like about the phone as well, as so many are still "high on the new device" that the dislikes are not too well known yet.

I have a Lumia 900. It's a great phone but it is just not feeling the WP8 love.
One of the things that concern me is the larger size. The 900 is already a heavy phone. Another is the reports of camera issues.
The last thing is simply the differences between WP7 & 8, are there enough improvements to justify the swap. I already know that the one app I use most is no longer available on 7 or 8 so I’m wondering what other adjustments are in store.
Anyway, has anyone else made this swap or simply have some constructive input on this phone?
For what it's worth I couldn't get hold of a 920 so got an 820 instead, There are minor improvements over the 900 and although I consider it an upgrade from my 900 I don't think it is warranted at this time for you to switch,
Yes the 920 of course is heavier and has a bigger screen and has a higher resolution so this does sway most people along with the fact it has an amazing capable camera, The OS does not really differ much once you get past the tiles, I personally think a few more firmware updates should solve any problems for the camera and any other issues etc,
Remember this is still the first batch and it really needs ironing out and polishing before it is worth upgrading,
That aside the OS does show promise and I am sure it will eventually be able to do everything we need and more, Try one out before you decide of course.

I completely disagree... and respectfully disagree. I had a 900 and switched. The improvements are subtle yet all over. Like the predictive keyboard is spot on. Voice to email... Voice to text anything is slightly more accurate. THE CAMERA! Lenses, etc. The wieght is a non issue. The camera, oh and lets not forget the camera. At times the battery life, I have an app that leaks.

Honestly if you already have a 900 I would not bother with a 920 at the moment, IMO you won't see a major difference between 7.8 and 8 yet.
I wonder how serious MS is about WP 8, things like Skype aren't great & a good RDP client is from MS is still missing. The fact that I can have a better remote desktop experience on Android is bad, same goes with Skype.
I own a 920 and it is a nice device but its shortcomings start bugging you over time. Also the Nokia Play To DLNA app is still not ready for WP 8.

It looks like my wife is going to move to an 820, she prefers the size, so that will give me some insight into WP8. The kid’s mode in one of the features she’s looking forward to.
I haven’t received 7.8 on my 900 yet but I’m only keen on some of the home screen changes.
The camera on the 900 has been a disappointment, my old focus took better pics and video.
For me RDP from phone is something I did 5 years ago that doesn’t really have any value for me. A VPN client with a file explorer would be a different story though.
I use Skype on WP7 and it works pretty well, I find it less annoying than the Android version on my Flyer.
Something that caught my eye yesterday were the rumors about an aluminum version of the Lumia coming out this year. If it is anything like the N8 it would certainly have my attention.

I have both. I decided to get the Note 8.0 and stick with the 920 as my daily driver. There are things I love about both wp8 and the samsung note series. This allows me to have both.
If I had to choose, I would still likely choose the 920. Overall it is just a better device IMO. Of course, if apps a a serious requirement for you, android obviously still has more selections. I just find windows phone has the best UI. There was a exclusive Halo app announced today for Windows Phone 8 and RT though.

The screen on the Lumia is large enough for me. The Note II screen is obviously larger but I believe the PPI is higher on the Lumia. The Lumia is the best in direct sunlight for sure, if that is a consideration.
I think if reading is your biggest concern, the note II is larger but the Lumia is sharper. Also, obviously the Lumia is more pocket friendly.
There are so many considerations that it is impossible to recommend either 100%. I have no bias toward either Android or WP8. To me, pick the best tool for the job.

I'm not sure I would like to read eBooks on either one of them - I think both screens are too small for that use case but that of course is just my personal opinion. For surfing the internet and reading articles I never had any issues with the screen size of my 920. I prefer the 920 over my Ativ S (basically an SGS3 with WP8) for reading because the PenTile display in the Ativ S makes white backgrounds look grainier/dirtier than the RGB LCD in the 920. Of course the Note 2 has an RGB AMOLED so this might not be an issue there (never did a side by side comparison).
Battery life seems to be better on the Note 2 though - at least in standby.
What are your other requirements? Would you use the stylus on the note for drawings or writing notes? Are you into photography so that the superior camera in the 920 would be of benefit to you? Nokia has true offline navigation capability if you are traveling a lot abroad but Google Maps on the Note II has a better POI database according to many.
While i only have tried Galaxy s3, note 2, and various other "modern" android Devices only for a short time, i prefer the lumia 920.
Androids play store is a bit bigger, but that is no real problem, as wp is coming along nicely.
In daily use, you will notice that android is really lagging, and also that apps is crashing.
This is not something I have experienced with my Lumia 920.
Furthermore, Nokia provides here maps and here drive+.
These programs gives you offline maps and turn by turn navigation for most of the world.
Another advantage with wp8 is skydrive.
The phone uploads all my pictures and videos to skydrive, and on my computer and tablets, which all is running windows 8 and windows rt,
The pictures appear instantly.

Note2: +: Big screen, sd card, removable battery, tons of software in android, highly customizable interface, rootable and customs roms
-: a bit unwieldy, tough to see in sunlight, looks kind of cheap, no camera button
Lumia 920: +: Premium feel and design, smaller screen if you want that, don't need to mess around with settings much, simpler interface, better camera
-: Limited software, heavy for some, no sd card, no removable battery, camera button, all buttons on right
Do you want it as primarily a phone or as a phablet is the question.
I'm finding the limitations of wp8 becoming increasingly annoying. You may want to consider the galaxy s4 and the htc one which are closer in size to the 920.

I bought my wife the HTC One (M7) and I don't regret it being her 1st Android device...it runs flawless and the display is the best I've ever seen on any device and her being in the medical profession Android's apps in her field made sense. As for me, I don't play games and I am a full-time college student and Windows Phone does exactly what I need it to do and despite it's limitations there isn't a 3rd party or Homebrew app that did a lesser job than the branded apps. We have T-Mobile where our kids live and barely an AT&T signal and where we live right out no T-Mobile whatsoever and Straight Talk (AT&T) HSPA+ in a place I thought we'd never get it, so VoIP is important which is my one pet peeve with WP. Skype gets it done but it just pisses me off that the brain trust at Microsoft failed and betrayed those who grew up with Windows Mobile through the WP7.x upgrade and left us in the cold with only a Start Menu and dead development today. It's easier said than done to buy a new smart phone every year.

So, eventually I got the Lumia 900, a wp 7-phone. I really got to enjoy wp, so now I have the Lumia 920. This phone is simply the best phone I ever had. I am now waiting for the rumoured Nokia eos.
I am convinced that it will be worth the waiting.
But for now, I am convinced that my 920 will suffice,
And I will without hesitation recommend this phone to anybody who is asking.

I will suggest Lumia 920, and if display size is not a concern go for iphone it has apps and performance.
Don't go for Android, i have S4 even it lags a lot of times and Random reboots comes free with Android, but i never had any lag in my lumia 920 or iphone 5
WP8 is far better then Android
I've owned a Galaxy SI, SII and SIII (which I still use). I picked up a 920 for testing apps my company is developing on W8, and although initially I enjoyed the 920, it now spends most of its time in my computer bag, while I'm back to using the S3. Why? Severely limited apps, especially in the tools/utilities area, infuriating restrictions on music player apps and supporting utilities, no call blocking apps, etc.
I like to tinker- this phone is not for my kind of consumer. It's great for those who have no desire to customize- smooth as butter and easy to use interface, great camera, competent music player, excellent battery life. But I want more than that- I want, for example, an app with a 4-band parametric EQ, a themed, customized UI, ROM control and a custom kernel to overclock/undervolt/manage memory, wifi tethering, etc...
I have both. Would never replace Note 2 with any phone. I like huge display. Note 2 offers me better readability, easier documents handling, editing and sending. I like the fact that I can customise keyboard (using SwiftKey), widgets, fast access to applications.
Lumia 920 has great navigation. Great camera.

I very much agree with you, if you have a lot of spare time or if you just want to kill time and if your phone is everything for you then go for Android, if you want a smartphone that works as a smartphone out of the box go for WP8 or iOS

GO for Lumia 920. I recently switched form Galaxy note 2 and i am really enjoying it. All the necessary applications are available in WP8 and most importantly i am impressed with the smoothness and lag free interface of wp8. The lumia 920 is handy and you can use it one hand only , while with note 2 you have to use both hands.
If you ask me , go for lumia 920 !

Exactly true. thats the reason i switched from note 2 to lumia 920
Why not have both. I use lumia 920 for day to day activities n note2 for the browsing fun games etc...
