Rogers for lte i717r owners please read - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I was tryin to switch over to rogers this afternoon...
All their lte plans for the note have only 200 minutes yes you can double them (tho it still not enough for me) and there is no more then 3gb data plan ... I mean what a rip off . If i want an lte device (even paying full price) i cant get 800 talk time and 5gb + for it
What plans you guys got ??
Granted this not 100% device related but im so pissed right now.
Edit : i currently pay 90 for 6gb and 100% talk / messages unlimited

whoa eithr they are very few rogers users or nobody feels my pain ,,,,

Actually its a bit misleading. The standard 6GB plan that rogers has for $30 is LTE compatible its just that not all reps realize it OR just want to charge you an arm and a leg for a LTE specific plan.
I signed up for the 6GB data plan years ago when they just came out with it, and when I called them they just had to remove my old 6GB plan and add the new 6GB plan. No price difference and although it doesn't say anything about LTE on their end, LTE does indeed work on my Note. I had a friend with a SGS2 do the same thing over the weekend. I remember reading somewhere that any new data plan is technically LTE compatible but I can't find the link so don't quote me on that, but I can assure you this one works.
Here's the link on Howardforums with the discussion about it. SoC codes are buried somewhere in there too.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1742420-Great-news-30-6Gb-is-back!
Right now I have the new my10 canada wide plan (incl. unlimited messaging), standard voicemail package and 6GB of data for about $86 a month. All standard plans so you don't have to go through retentions or strike some kind of deal.
Hopefully that helps a bit

Question about prepaid service, and SIM cards

Hello,
My contract just ended on my i777 and it's brand new
I want to get the BEST possible prepaid service that would work
in Southern California. I dont need a lot of minutes, at all... Just GOOD FAST
DATA
Any recommendations? I was thinking to just go to walmart on my lunch break and pick up the cheapest prepaid phone that comes with a SIM card. Stupid ATT wants me to sign another 2 year contract with them for shoddy as capped service. I told them they better start treating me right towards the end of my contract, but NOOOOOOOOOO... the service provider is always right Stupid capped data text message was the last straw... I have "Unlimited" and I never went past 2gb... the ONE time I use netflix, I got the text
LOL... Thanks!
I gave quite a fair warning to ATT towards the end of my contract too... My account is a business account for SONY and I even mentioned that I will contact the administration department regarding their ****ty service and no one cares ...sooooooo, they shut my service off because I am not going to pay a 90 dollar month to month capped service fee that doesnt even work in my area.. (At home I get about half mb MAX DL speed).. when I go to work (about 5 miles away) I get 4 MB... One mile away from that, Id be lucky to get 200kb lol. Its just shoddy as service and its time I start sticking it to the MAN Lol

If your contract is up, and you still have "unlimited" data...stick with that. You're not gonna find anything better by going prepaid.
Its not unlimited dude... unlimited is unlimited. Id understand if you advertise unlimited service within reason, but thats not what I was sold about 5 years ago with my original Iphone.. Im on a gradfathered plan that doesnt mean anything. Its code slang for "These people are stupid and old since they have been with us for so long so lets rape them some more"
I dont even need a lot of data... just enough to get by... MAX is about 4 GB in a BUSY ASS MONTH LOL, (traveling etc...which is NEVER really)

Clearly. That's why I put the word in quotes. What I'm telling you is, even though it's crappy, you're not going to get any better service by going prepaid. In fact, it'll be worse. From what I can tell, you can't even get HSPA+ data on a prepaid plan...only 3G. Maybe even only EDGE, I'm not sure. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

In the US, you're only going to get prepaid through AT&T or T-Mobile. Our phones can only use Edge on T-Mo.
Keep the service (for now) until you find something better. As stated in the earlier posts by other, there is no better plan that what you got ATM.
I am on a 2GB plan with AT&T and I still feel that I am getting throttled. Your "unlimited" plan will let you go up to 5GB for $25 before they throttled you, that better than mine at 2GB for $30.

I think you have those prices reversed. The unlimited plan has traditionally been $30, and the 2GB plan is now $25.
Prepaid service
Hey im a few months late in this thread but ive been weighing my off contract cell service options and looks like you could use some help...you actually have a few much much better choices out there that will save money and still keep you off contract...
ok, i currently use H20 wireless right now and it is $60 a month with 2 gigs of data...they just started to downgrade data speeds with this plan from 4g to 3g after 500mb of useage. They stared this about 1 month ago :/
And unfortuneately they completely cut off the data after 2 gigs
The great thing about H20 however is that it is more or less an ATT sim card with an H20 logo...100% exact same coverage...Also you dont need to unlock your AT&T phone to use with H20 =)
Now your second and perhaps best option that i have found is to go with Straight talk...
they offer prepaid service that uses att´s, t mobile´s, and verizon´s service coverage depending on the plan you choose (just like h20 it is 100% the same coverage you would get with those companies).
The plans cost $45 a month for unlimited Talk Text & data and they do not cut off your data and apparently dont throttle either! They are selling Sims now on their website...(you would want to get the ATT compatible sim for your i777
you could cut your bill in half and stay off contract...id go with straight talk for sure...good luck!

But if you read straight talk's agreement look at the data section. They basically tell you what is ok to use data for and what is not, and that if you excessively use it and go over the average you can have your account canceled. I read through it and I think it even said no streaming of media of any kind(or maybe it was just video)

That is correct, all prepaid services essentially may cut off your data completely at any time for any reason... it's in the contract...ridiculous hu?. However since the original poster says he almost never goes over his limit of 2GB, he shouldn't have any trouble at all. Also these companies send you numerous warnings before they cut you off (in my experiences- which i've had simple mobile and H20).
One thing that will set them off is tethering...more specifically when you are already past 2gb and are continuing to tether. Also I spoke to a rep he told me that it is unlimited and isn't throttled...but as we both know they do have the power to do as they want. As far a media streaming, they more so discourage it rather than forbid it...never have had a warning message for streaming content (netflix skype etc)
If you want to be off contract and do it cheap then straight talk will be the cheapest with the most data...there is no comparison
Are they, StraighTalk & H20, offering HSPA+ or even LTE in some area or just 3G and EDGE?
If they truly offer unlimited as they advertise, then it is a great deal.
Somehow, I keep thinking "it's too good to be true" and I don't want to be trapped into some kinds of fine print.

I do not believe they handle LTE but they do Edge, 3g and HSPA+ but it depends on your area as to what you can get. I have ST on my i777 and I get all 3. HSPA+ is preferred but in my area 3g is more what I get unless I am very near a tower. My town is restricted by there not being enough towers around but when I am near a better one I get H+ all day long.
Thanks for the confirmation, chris.
Still not really sure what unlimited means for Straight Talk as no one else really knows. I do know they will cancel you for using to much data. I have read that the most data is 2 gb a month,2000 to 5000 each for messaging and talk. I dont use to much data and never will use the other minutes up so this is a great deal for me. Under 48.00 a month. Beats almost the 80 I was paying. I do get H+ but I think thats only for data. Pretty sure 3g for everything else. Never had any problems with ATT. Just paying to much money!!! 15.00 for an ATT Sim and 330.00 for my GS2 priceless!!!!

Unlimited means that it is unlimited until ofcourse they decide you are using too much or too fast, which surely they have guidelins, but we will never know.
...the best approach to teathering would be to teather via an application
...It costs $30 with AT&T to utilize the teathering feature so obviously straight talk (running on AT&Ts network in this case) doesnt want customers using this feature.
...my Atrix (not yet rooted) cant utilize teathering with my H20 service (also uses AT&T´s network) because i get the "sorry you havent paid for tethering service bla bla bla)
...a good app to use would be pdanet... it will look as if you are just using a normal app (carriers have ways to detect if you are infact teathering).
-you can sideload pdanet with an excellent program called the sideload wonder machine ...just serch it in google
...If you use the AT&T´s stock teathering feature on your phone they will know you are teathering.
...i will try and call tomorrow and try to get some kindof breakdown of why they cap and shut off data...and in some cases accounts :/
hope this helps

For the best prepaid service Page plus might be good a good choice since it operates on verizon's network... Here in Florida verizon is by far the best without question. Although since it's a cdma network obviously you would have to sell your phone and get a verizon or something that has been flashed to verizon....
The plan isnt half bad either...
$55 unlimited talk text/picture messages
However they only give you 1gb of data but in your case it sounds like it may be sufficient for ya.
You can activate any verizon phone on Page plus except for the 4g phones... I haven't yet tried an iphone 4s but I will look into it.

I work at a repair/retail store and my boss was talking to a customer about the available prepaid options for AT&T and he says "and there is one that's pretty good I believe it's called Red Rocket" I laughed so hard I cried lol.

[Q] Question concerning north american version

Hi there,
Presently I know I am getting the galaxy s3 american/canadien version. Now the thing is to choose my company (I live in Quebec, Canada). The thing is I am doubting about 2 companies (because of the services/contract/price they provide): Bell and Videotron. Now the thing is that Bell's galaxy s3 is the same version as the rest of north america, but the videotron version doesnt have LTE, but all the rest of the specs are the same (if im not mistaking).
Now my question is, (because I am a flash addict), will this change anything on the roms I can flash? In other words, does the fact that videotron doesnt have LTE on the phone (they block it) wont let me flash roms that I can flash on the North american version?
Sorry for the long question, but I am struggling with this.
Thank you very much!
If the hardware is the same I shouldn't see why you'd have a problem with ROMs for it, what your network does with its data is up to them, Nd not related to the phone.
Really though, if you're gonna get the S3 in North America and not benefit from LTE, why not just buy the international version and go with a good data plan? You'd have much better ROM support.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
This is just my guess, but I'm of the opinion that all GSM dual core variants will have the same hardware. More guessing here, but I think you could take an "ATT" ROM and flash it as long as you had the appropriate radio for your carrier. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in?
But, that's how I'm hoping it'll work. I'd hate it if I bought a T-mobile version and only be able to use 2 developers lol.

The only reason I buy the North American version is just that if I buy the international it will cost me smthing like 250$ more and the biggest reason is that if I have problem with my phone the warranty will be pain. (but if you know à good website where I can buy the international version can you tell me?) { thanks a lot
I'm with Videotron and I'll be getting the S3 on June 20th. I'm pretty sure you can install any ROM made for the other north-american models, since they only disable the LTE chip in this model (I think).
Concerning the option to buy the international version, I see two cons : the price is WAY higher (159$ on a 3-year with Videotron with a good 40$ plan VS 750-850$ for the international version), and the fact that I don't think the Quad-core processor brings much yet.
Quad-core is a nice plus, but I think it's more like a "I can tell I have a quad-core device" feature more than a real performance boost (for now). The north-american versions will have 2GB of RAM, and I think this is more useful. I see many users on this forum talking about the Laucher redrawing when they close a big application, or some lag when switching tabs in the browser. More RAM = no (or less) need to free memory to make room for the last app launched.
Plus, I also think the battery life with the S4 CPU will be better since this is a dual-core and there has no LTE, but I may well be wrong, it's just a guess.
You should look at this thread, might be useful.

Yes but for me the only reason of buying maybe the international version is to have more roms development but for the rest, personally, I think youre rigth and for videotron the only thing scaring me is that it wont support roms (because it doesnt have LTE, but it should be ok).

Rule of thumb here in the US: the savings you get from buying a subsidized phone will be dwarfed by the extra you pay monthly. Most people don't remember to multiply that extra *24 (or even *36 for a three-year contract).
I can't speak for Canada, however. But if you pay more than $250/(36 months)= $6.94/month extra over three years, that already exceeds the $250 you saved in the subsidy. And you're locked in to boot.
Edit: Plus, you say you want to flash. International version is a no-brainer for the dev scene. See this post.
I think im gonna go with the int version. The only thing scaring me though is the warranty. Does anyone know a good web to buy the phone from? if there is one with a warranty? Thanks again
Why go with Bell or Videotron? I am with Telus http://www.telusmobility.com/en/QC/plans/promotional.shtml and I am renewing my contract with them because they have the best plans. i have been looking around for 2 months.
Also, why go with Videotron if they do not have LTE? LTE is the future of data transmission. Bell has LTE, but their plans are more expensive.
For $50/month you get...
200 anytime minutes
Unlimited NATIONWIDE talk and text messaging with your 10 Favourite Numbers
Unlimited local Early Nights (6pm) and Weekends
Unlimited outgoing and incoming text, picture and video messages
Flexible data,
up to 100 MB is $50
100 MB to 250 MB is $60
250 MB to 500 MB is $70
500 MB and over is $70
Since I am never over 100mb/month, this is a great plan compared to other companies.

Samsung is pretty adamant about having receipts for the phone before they warranty anything. I went through this.
Samsung warranties are not transferable.

This is actually pretty expensive ... ***100*** MB for 50$, seriously? if I use 500MB I pay 70$ for a month, that's wayyyy too expensive ... Videotron gives me 2gb for 50$, with unlimited texts also.
LTE is cool but ...
1. Drains battery like hell ...
2. For must uses, the speed improvement is not that much ...
3. LTE is way too under-developed for now. I live in Québec and if I want to have LTE I must be in Montreal ... well not for me.
Maybe in a few years, when LTE coverage will be comparable to HSPA coverage, then it will be really interesting. Until then, 3G is fine for me

I don't use much in the way of data, but I do call people across Canada, so my fav 10 really helps. Also Videotron has zones, I hate zones. I go to auctions in eastern Ontario and the flea market in Lachute, so when I call or get a call from a friend, my mother, my sister it doesn;t cost anything because they are part of my fav 10.

[Q] Convert VZW Note II to T-Mobile?

My wife and I are considering switching to T-Mobile when our Verizon contract runs out in June (tired of paying $100+ more a month for Verizon, especially since I have a funny feeling our grandfathered unlimited is on borrowed time). Right now I'm running an unlocked, rooted VZW Note II running CleanROM 4.5. Is there a way to permanently flash the phone over to T-Mobile (radios) if we decide? I really want the AWS bands so I'm not gimped with EDGE speeds as I am today (running the VZW radios/firmware).
So...is this possible?
Thanks!
No not really. You could try this link below. I've pmed the Dev (i pulled the Verizon qcn he needed) and he said it may work, but if not just restore the backup you make before.
Having said that I'm making the same switch and I've decide to sell my note, buy at mobile one under contract,(200 on there website right now) then pay the 200 to switch to a value plan.
So I'll pay 400 for a t mobile note and have the 50 unlimited plan. I can easily sell mine for 500 to 550 so I'll make 100 bucks

South Carolina and they're fine here. Obviously not as good as Verizon, but i stay in the city 90 percent and on my wife's t mobile note they're great. In NC she had better signal then I did. On a plus side they're customer service is a million times better then Verizon could dream about being. I'd switch just for that

Bid on a new Verizon Note II for $470. So how does the T-Mobile purchase & ETF work? As far as I remember you will need to pay tax over full price (not discounted) plus tax for ETF as well. Please let me know how it goes (actually money you'll need to spend for your plan). Thanks.
verizon's note II will accept a t-mobile microsim and work as a phone right away. you'll have to root it to add the proper apn for edge data, and you'll get t-mobiles 3g on the farmed 1900 bands.
here in SoCal, i get 3g about 70% of the time

So aside from being locked into 2g if you aren't in a reframed 19900 band location does txt and mms work normally? Im primarily on wifi 95% of the time and switching out to TMO would save me over $100/mo for 2 lines I have with VZW. I popped in a TMO microsim but it wasnt an active one the network so all I got was the "welcome to tmobile" prompt for programming.
Using Jellybeans 13 with APN Editor hack. It picked up the GSM and correct APN from what I saw.
Yes it is possible to take your Note 2 from VZW to T-Mobile, Switched weeks ago
Yes it is possible, I've been running on a T-Mobile custom ROM now for the last 8 weeks and going back & forth between VZW and Solavei (T-Mobile).I have been running the Tweaked 1.5 and just recently it updated to Tweaked 1.6 both are for the T-Mobile Note2 sch-T889.
It has been flawless and I never pass up the opportunity to brag about this and show it off to both Verizon customers and T-Mobile customers
as well. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the best Android handset I've ever owned... It will a pretty Awesome Android handset to even come close to the Note2's abilities and excellent engineering.. So a huge Thank You to Samsung and hey "Verizon Suck It" your rule of consumer manipulation and robbery will come to an end one day.... Jerks

Oops missed this. I paid 278 plus tax at Walmart then 200 fee plus tax so like 500 for a brand new phone.
We did great for my wife. 278 plus tax, but got a50 gift card. Then 200 fee, but called them and they waived it. Something about a remorse wave. So 250 basically. I'm waiting for my bill with fee to see if theyll do it again.
By the way with my discount I pay 85 for unlimited everything! Coverage is no where near Verizon, but what do you expect. But the big issue is wifi calling. In the hospital I work no one gets service, but me!

How did your wife get such a great deal? Could you please share some technique to let them waive the ETF? If that works then I'll definitely grab one or two. Thanks.
The gift card was just a promo Walmart was running. There fee there really isn't atip. When my first bill came in it had the 200 fee, and two months of service (done weird way it billed after getting my discount put on).
I just called and explained I switched from Verizon to save money and asked if they could discount some of these fees. I was hoping for activation fee waived and maybe a small percent off. Instead she said she could refund the 200

I took my phone to one of the repair store. They didn't have to root the phone and they are still able to add the new APN.

And the 50 dollar unlimited only gives you 500 mb data. Realistically unlimited talk, text, and data will be 70 a month. Or you can get 2.5 gigs of data for 60 per line. I just left t-mobile, be prepared that your service will not work indoors in a lot of places as they don't not have. Low frequency like Verizon and att. Plus you will run into a lot of dead zones if you travel. Otherwise it is a really cheap plan. I just can't stand paying for a phone and unable to use it for half a day.

Even though this thread is like, 6 months old, I thought I would add my .02.
I recently purchased a GoPhone sim for AT&T prepaid. $60 month unlimited talk/text & 2gb data. I am getting HSPA+ speeds with my Verizon GN2. While it is NOWHERE near the LTE speeds I get on Verizon, it is also 1/2 the cost. plus, if needed, I can purchase extra data at $10 per gig. I average 2-3gb per month now, & my plan with unlimited data, 900 texts & 1000 minutes is $112.
If I sell my Verizon phone & buy a AT&T N2, I will get LTE with GoPhone.
Tried tmobile for 3 hours with a brand new note 2 and demanded refund. The service was awful... I mean horrible. Picked up a used note 2 and stayed with vzw. Worst phone experience ever. Run far away from tmobile.

Using AT&T One on T-mobile

I was a bit impatient and jumped the gun and bought the ONE at Walmart for $148 with a 2 year contract. But already during my first week I realize I'm using up my minutes rather quickly and being limited kinda sucks.
I definitely want to keep the phone cause its flawless and I keep reading about other peoples flawed phone and I already added SquareTrade insurance.
I was thinking of paying the early termination fee of $325 which makes the phone only $473 which is cheaper than I could get it from TMobile.
Question is would I be able to add this phone to T Mobile prepaid plans and not be stuck on Edge network for data?

Depends if you're in a refarmed market. I live in one and I get mostly HSPA+ (4G) with pockets of Edge.

Why not just use straight talk for $45/month get unl everything with 2gb of data? should be amble. AND the best part is that your still on the ATT network and dont have to worry about being on 2G if not in 1900 refarmed area which is hard to find these days

Don't do it - the data speeds on at&t through Straight Talk are HORRENDOUSLY capped - I had them for over a year where I didn't have T-Mobile coverage... An absolute headache! Most of the at&t MVNOs truly suck if you want data... I've heard of people not being speed capped on Red Pocket though.

Go read the horror stories about the capped data speeds on Straight Talk. I'll give you a great example. My dad did a speed test right next to me, both of us around -90dBm on HSPA... I shot up to 3Mbps and then was slammed down to around 800kbps consistently while he was running upwards of 8 and 9 on the downstream... Even further evidence of the cap? My upstream was 1900Kbps and his was 1950. Both of us using Captivates, same radio, same ROM. Only difference is he had post-paid at&t (and thus was able to use at&t's postpaid APN).
But by all means, its worth a try - no contract and all - good luck dealing with customer service to get your phone working in the first place though, they are worse than Sprint. :good:
Another option to consider is VoIP... If you have a Google Voice number, you can set up SIP. Its not the easiest thing in the world to do but you get unlimited calls... There are many different SIP solutions in the Play Store.

I learned my lesson the hard way with Straight Talk but if he takes his One and puts it on T-Mobile, he will be on EDGE most of the time unless he's in a refarmed 1900MHz area or has LTE. at&t's version doesn't support HSPA over AWS.

If you are looking to save over the long term, return the AT&T model and get the T-Mobile model... you can use it with Straight Talk (T-Mobile BYOD) or with direct T-Mobile. T-Mobile is the only way to get LTE though. You get a larger data bucket with ST but you're limited to HSPA+... its really all a matter of what you need.
Solavei might be a good option too, especially if you have good T-Mobile service in your area - they will knock 20 bucks a month off their 49 dollar fee for every 3 people you get to sign up with Solavei, for as long as they keep their service.

They are rolling out their network insanely fast. OpenSignal has T-Mobile LTE showing up all over the place. Obviously test towers but they are going to flip the switch on the most advanced LTE network, something nobody else can say!
The simple and correct way to this mess is to just frikin use the same carriers data as matched to that carriers branded device .Using att phone on tmobile or vise versa just never cuts it ,unless you want 2g more so than not... And you want to render the phones capabilitys useless and waist your money on 2g ,This should only be done out of desperation, say like if your phones broke and it's a temp solution.

I'm so tired of the T-Mobile fan club.
They've renamed "throttling" to "de-prioritizing" but are now applying the same speed caps as everyone else to some percentage of their biggest data users. At 133GB I'd say your days are numbered.

I agree with you. There's no doubt T-Mobile speeds can be fast. I know a guy who gets 64 mbps down on his T-Mobile One Plus One running Cyanogen. I must be getting a good deal with AT&T tho because nobody has enabled me to save money by switching yet. I could always go to Sprint and get my bill cut in half, but then I'd have to turn in all my phones and switch to CDMA which I don't want to do.

They give me 10 GB of rollover data with unlimited talk and text on 3 lines. All lines share the same data. I just checked and they don't offer the 10 GB plan anymore.
Being on any MVNO sucks if you roam internationally. They all also get de-prioritized over native traffic when the network is congested and in some cities (NYC, SFO) that's quite a bit of the time. Being on T-mobile or any of their MVNO's sucks because they have a lot of high frequency spectrum which makes indoor reception sketchy. T-mobile is a multi-billion dollar public company who's mission is to generate above industry financial returns to their shareholders. They aren't benevolent. So far they've proven they can move market share (they're still #4 BTW) by giving up profit/margin. The jury's still out until the latter starts to increase.
I am thankful to them though. I pay AT&T $70ish a month for three devices and 7GB of data and that includes the $10 a month for the Gear S I just bought from them for $149.
No wireless carrier is anyone's "friend." It's choosing between the best of a bad lot. Talking about pricing, service, and support on XDA is educational. Trying to pimp others toward a specific carrier not so much. Everyone here values different things.

Stupid Queston About The Gear S Activation & MetroPCS
@jcar6245 When I get it do I need to activate it to my phone and then take it into metroPCS for activation? I got a Note Edge, but I didn't know if I need to get service turned on imei activation first and then sync it to my phone or vice versa. LoL
That process got the best of my dyslexia, I guess it doesn't really matter which way ya do it right?
Damn I'm on metro pcs with four phones and two have hotspot for just 105.00 I was curious how much it would be to add a smart watch
