Uneven backlight??? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Is anyone else noticing uneven backlighting on their note? I can see it when the background is white. It seems like there is an area that is darker.

SuperAmoled screen does not use backlighting. If you think it is a flaw, you can exchange it from att.

Can't see it and I don't think SAMOLED uses backlighting.

I exchanged it today. The new one is so much better.

Glad you were able to get a new one.
My entire panel is even, no light bleed, no unusual banding, dead pixels etc. Very happy w/ mine

Blue tint to screen unless looking straight at it

If i tilt my screen even the slightest bit, the screen gets a blue tint to it.
I have read some people say its only temporary. Some people have also said they never had it out of the box.
My phone is 2 days old. What should I do?

Do you mean when the screen is on or off?
i've only had a few samsung devices with the amoled series screens, but from what i can tell it seems to be the rule not the exception that the blue tint will be present in the screens.....
someone correct me if i'm wrong, i'm just going off personal experience
I'm not seeing it on my SGSII or my Captivate. I just checked again to be sure.
i have blue tint. You can see really well if you are viewing a white web page and move the phone slightly.
Yeah I've noticed this as well on the two GS2's that I've had over the past few days. Not an issue to me, but it is odd.

It doesn't bother me enough to want a new phone, i was more or less pointing it out and making sure i dont have a defective phone.

I noticed this too last night. I imagine that it's "normal".

Keep in mind, some were saying on the euro sgs2 forums that it went away after a few weeks.

Slight blue tint is not a bad thing. Blue pixels dim down faster than red and green. Over time, you will get it balanced.
AMOLED is not known for color accuracy. Don't be too picky
This is perfectly normal for the display type. http://www.smartmobix.com/Super_Amoled_vs_Super_LCD
I see the blue if you hold the phone about 45 degrees tilted from straight on. Pretty much any direction if you aren't straight on you see the weird tint.
Mine has a severe blue tint with only about a 10 degree rotate on any axis. I never imagined that a phone could have such a poor viewing angle. My Captivate's screen was leagues better.
What am I doing wrong, I cannot reproduce this blue tint.
At about 45 degrees I see a slight change, but it looks more yellow than blue. Its barely noticeable, and only at >45 degrees, hardly an issue.
I never use screen protectors because of past experience with them making the screen foggy when viewed at an angle. Could the screen protector be causing the issue for others? Or, at least amplifying the issue?
Sent from my SGS II
Well, mine must be defective.
You know those holographic comic book covers and how you see a shimmer with the slightest angle change? It's like that. The slightest shift brings on the blue.
I don't think I'm incredibly picky either. My Captivate and Tilt 2 before it were dynamite by comparison.
My Thrill did that, when I 3D mode, the viewing angle was minuscule in that phone.
I am nothing but amazed with the screen on the SGS II. You should definately swap for a new one.

Normal experiences for an amoled screen. its like when you see a plasma that's off and its greenish, it just has to do with the panel I assume.
Here is a video of what I see. I actually start to see it sooner than the camera does though. But you can still easily see how it changes to blue.

Thanks for posting that video. I've been noticing this problem too. I would say anyone that says it goes away has just gotten used to it. I don't think there is a solution.

Found three bright lights on screen today!

I haven't realized this before until I bring up a new document from polaris app. I then noticed three bright pixels on my screen far brighter than rest of the screen.
I called Asus and they said if they can't fix the issue then I can choose to receive a refurbish or new prime.
Guys check your screen.

Are you telling me to check something that I have to look at every time I use it? Really?
I had this on my second one. But mine was more of a bright spot rather than a pixel. It varied in intensity whether my prime was plugged in or not. If it was plugged in it was way brighter.

Sh*t happens. RMA it. Least they are offering you a new prime! Thats good.
I'm pretty sure what your seeing are dead pixels. I have 2 currently on mine. For me it doesn't reveal itself under dark colors. But light colors seems to bring it out. When I rebooted and when the ASUS screen popped up I examined the screen real hard and noticed that those same pixels were actually dead. Which explains why I couldn't see it under black background. The Asus loading screen is black but it has backlight lit up to were I can see those dead spots. I don't know just my own findings. Could be completely different.
Edit: Mine was also a bright spot. Made more defined when under lighter backgrounds. Like I said. When under the boot screen look at it again maybe have to adjust it in an angle and you will see that it appears to be a dead pixel where that same bright light is.

I have one of these also. It's only visible on white backgrounds and even then it's not a big deal. It's bottom left when my Prime is in the correct landscape orientation.

anyone else have this

When im sitting in a darkish room with no
lights on in the room if i pull down the status bar or looking at dark pictures i can notice 2 black lines? Anyone else have this?you have to look kinda close and move the phone round abit tho to see it
Anyone?
What you mean black lines down the sides? Cos I see nothing else and they normal.
I see about 3 small spots which are darker than others but they are only small, i do however know people who own s3's which suffer from a problem similar to the one you describe, but they both decided it want worth a return (yes two of my friends with the same problem what are the chances?)
I guess you mean the irregularities in the screen on black background in low-lit conditions.
Depending on how prominent they are, it's considered normal for AMOLOED screens and similar effects can be seen on all AMOLED-devices.
My best guess is that some LED ranges get a tad too little power on minimum brightness when displaying very dark content so that they really stay dark while the others give a very faint flow.
(Such flaws and differences in the screen are one of the reasons why AMOLED can't go really dark like LCD's can)
I was just about to post this aswell. When I'm using the phone and there's a black background, I see a couple of extra dark dashes on the screen
Is there a fault with the screen?

don't worry man.

What causes the dark spots?

Screen tint fluctuation issues?

I got my GS3 A few days ago and i noticed the screen look awfully warm, so i thought it was just samsung color calibration. But when i tilt the phone in any angle from a normal viewing angle the screen temperature goes warm to cold. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Same exact problem here man. I've posted a few threads about it but I figured I was alone since no one replied. My room step s3 is yellow as well. I'm on my 3rd and they have all been the same.
I'm just going to assume it's calibrated this way. Sure does look nice from an angle though lol

upgrading from the gs II, I picked up my gsIII last week and noticed the warmer color...especially on a white background. The warm white reminds me of LCD instead of OLED... i was thinking Samsung duped us and swapped LCD for OLED.
Since the color becomes cooler when you change the viewing angle, i'm thinking it might be a tint in the screen glass or digitizer to give that warmer color when viewing straight on. Personally, I prefer whiter whites but it seems most smart phone users, especially iphone users, are used to/prefer a warmer white screen so maybe Sammy is trying to appeal to the masses used to a LCD look
I hate it, especially coming from the GS2. Looking at it from an angle the screen looks perfect, WHY SAMSUNG WHYYYYYYYYYY:crying:

Well looks like the only flaw if that's what u want to call it. I'm just glad Samsung got gps right on this phone

I hope that fix it in later hardware revisions, then I'll just get a replacement.

Well...coming from a Galaxy Note - which was WAY too 'cool' of a tint (to where it was almost green) - I am thrilled to have a warmer white with the S3!
But I have also spent the last many years as a video/TV "purest" and have my home theater stuff professionally calibrated. Warm (reddish) whites are much more accurate and are actually the NTSC standard (6500k).
I too noticed and hence this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754062
Comparing with vibrant i even thought i had a defective screen. But when i put GS3 next to my laptop and desktop lcd screen, the whites look much better and thus i console my self

I agree. My tv is calibrated that way as well. I think most phones are more blue that we got used to it and now the warm color is not "normal" lol

I just did the same thing and the whites definitely look better than my laptop screen. I guess I can live with that.
Coming from an OG Epic with voodoo sound and color will just be an adjustment I guess.
Has anyone returned their phone because of this issue? If so how did you go about returning it?
Has anyone check their Screen Tone adjustment under Display?

[Q] Light Leaking Problems?

I love my new DNA, my only gripe is some light leakage problems.
When I'm viewing a dark or black image or anything, the three capacitive buttons leak light onto the screen. Is this a big issue and should I consider exchanging the device?
Same here
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
Pretty sure all lcd's that have capacitive buttons will have that. All the devices I have seen or used have it to some extent.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
No light leakage here... I went into a pitch balck room turned the brightness all the way down and I see no light from the buttons... On an all black screen that is... I did the opposite turned the brightness all the way up and still no light from the buttons

Hmmm, so it appears to be an issue affecting some other users also, so now I decide if its worth it to try and tell the VZW guys... Thank you!
I am in the same boat. Although I am impressed with HTC's response to many of their trademark issues with the release of this device, there is still some light leak at the bottom left corner of the screen on my DNA. I did notice though, the light leak I am seeing on mine is still present when the capacitive back lighting is off. I believe mine is from the actual screens back lighting. These little issues do bug the sh*t out of me, but it is much improved from their previous models. Contemplating trading up to see if I can luck out and get a better model...
