any idea about the ICS rom ETA for Razr GSM version?
I thought I read on the Andoid forums that the ICs for GSM devices was avaiable now.
Leaked screenshots (not ROM) also reported here:
http://androidandme.com/2012/02/dev...razr&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=pulsenews
Makes me a lil excited... Q2 still seems so far away, though and I doubt we'll see it in Q1... Anyone try cheesecakin that bad boy? I'm not rooted, or else I would...

Interesting that it's using the standard ICS launcher dock rather than the more Blur'd one from the GSM ICS leak.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
That is a blur launcher. It has all the blur look. A lot different from the official Xoom build as well. But don't forget this is Cdma build with VZW bloat
Sent from my AOKP Razr using XDA App
My understanding is that there will be a complete Blur rebuild, with a toned down feel for some ICS functions to shine through.

This was good news to read this morning. The screenshots look a lot like a completed build, which means we'll hopefully be getting ICS soon. The only problem I have with the current version of Blur is the uninstallable bloatware, but at least apps can be hidden. I bought a RAZR because I absolutely love Motorola's hardware. As soon as we can get ICS my phone will have the best software too.
how did you guys put up with motorola locked bootloader policy BS? i know many samsung users will be angry if samsung start doing that, but i don't think samsung will do that anytime soon. maybe in 2-3 years they will lock their bootloader, who knows.
I do not mind the bootloader for now, since I bought the phone knowing it is locked. If I buy a Samsung I know it's unlocked and if they lock it, it is a violation of there own policy and therefore gives me a reason to complain.
If it is Motorola's decision to take down the lock of the bootloader allot of heavy-users and programmers will joy that decision, but if they don not, than it is just tough luck. (Nevermind the fact I like it unlocked also)
The Locked Bootloader is a pain... The trend is that everyone is doing away with the locked, Moto being the only company left that has one... The lock problem prevents us from changing the Kernal and thus limits the amount of things we can accomplish with a custom ROM, Which is why at this time there are only a number of ROMs available to use... most are just tweaks of the exisiting Moto Rom....
You can search this forum, there is alittle more info here, plus a petition drive to contact Moto and voice your complaints....

I would assume Q1(Jan-Mar) Q2(April-June) Q3(July-Sept) Q4(Oct-Dec). To bad it's still unknown for CDMA.
Is there any chance that we can get ICS for Razr earlier than Q2?
If Motorola start leaking ROMs as much as HTC and Samsung do then yes.. but highly unlikely.. However that being said, we already have a leaked test version but obviously not stable enough to be used as a daily. And also on top of that, there are a few devs working on versions of ICS built from source so although we might not get an official Moto build of it before it's released, we can probably still get a decent cooked version of it soon.
using ics for over a week
I was able to dl the 4.0.3 from the server when it first popped up, after it (the d/l) started i restarted my phone and then went to settings and it showed up there as a ota d/l. I've been using it for over a week now and I've had absolutley no trouble with it. I retained root using voodoo and it autmatically reinstalled all my apps on it's own, all my root tweaks work and it's much faster than the .181 build along with being more detailed in the settings. I've reasd horror stories about people bricking their phones but again it went as smooth as butter, It failed 4 times due to me having the beta swype on and not being able to get it off, but after rsd'ing back to stock and taking all the updates and not adding or changing any programs along the way it went on as it should again under my settings tab not the [email protected] route, not sure why this happened maybe after it's identified the phone it "accepted" it as a soak? phone, I dont know but it's as perfect as I would want, I've been playing with the rooting and roms since the og droid, droid x, droid x2 and the bionic which was buggier than my shed, I don't understand where everyone is having trouble installing it, I believe I'm still on the update path as when I check for an update it allows it to happen and I can connect all my accounts including Motocast which I've read the update killed for most people, a few tweaks under the ro.build reconnected my mobile data and when I check to see what *#*#4636*#* it shows my phone info for preferred network type as unknown (which i dont understand) and under motorola services "push connected" as true, which i believe lets me know that this was considered a legit ota update, now I've been rooting and flashing since the og but am far from being an expert in reading this and may be misinterpeting what I'm reading but so far so good and wouldn't go back to GB for anything, and wouldn't understand why anyone would, much faster, 4g stays connected all the time and the speeds are faster there also, has a different overall feel to the system that is more fluid and hasn't had one hiccup to date, a little long winded but I thought i would give my opinion on the build. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Rumor has it we will get the gingerbread update in Q3. Bad things will happen if you flash the DX gingerbread update.
a 2.3 update would be beneficial to both verizon and moto... with other droids getting the update recently/soon it would make sense to expect it at least within the next couple months. the best news is that they already have motoblur working on 2.3, so this should make the update alot easier for the DX2... we sit and wait, as always.
It's rather asinine that the DROID X2 this late in the game did not include Android 2.3.3/4 any high-end(ish) phone that comes out this late with 2.2 is just stupid, Thunderbolt, Charge etc. etc. These carriers are always B*t*hing about there networks and data but they just gotta push all that data to thousands of the said updates to the phones. makes no sense.
The X2 does not have GB because GB is having problems on the dual-core Tegra 2 chipset. I talked with a rep this evening that was pretty knowledgable on the situation and she stated that we most likely won't be seeing GB on the X2 in the foreseeable future, a few months at the least.

I am also very curious about this. I've been harassing P3Droid on Twitter. Since he has inside sources at Moto (or so I've heard) someone should ask him what he thinks...
TBH plans to develop for this as soon as they get their hands on one...
I just wish this phone were more stable to start with. Swapping between wifi and 3G is a lag fest, pulling the phone from either the car dock or multimedia dock is a crap shoot. Often times it'll get confused and just give a blank screen when swapping between apps, and it'll require a reboot before the whole thing runs smoothly again.
I'm hoping a clean GB install will fix these problems because I really want to keep the device.
I read that the ATRIX receive 2.3.4 OTA update, when do you think the 3D will see it?
From HTC? Who knows. But now that we have root, we will probably be seeing some 2.3.5 coming up in the near future (AOSP of course). Also, 2.3.4 isn't reallyl any different from 2.3.3, other than the Google Video chat, which can already be used on our phones now anyways. Don't let 2.3.4 get you too excited.
Lol yea I won't, just can't wait to see what's to come now that we have full root.

We will have rom's to take care of that.

From what I remember reading... as far as Google is concerned, development on 2.x has stopped. Whether or not 3.x is still being developed I don't remember reading about, but I know they are working on 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which is a collaboration of everything in 3.x and 2.x, and designed to work on both smartphones and tablets, so that they can get away from having different versions for different types of devices. This is said to be available in Q4 of 2011.
Now to keep developing 3.x when they are already planning on releasing 4.0 so soon, would seem pretty foolish at this point, but stranger things have happened.
Now, this also does not mean that HTC won't release 2.3.4 on their devices... this could still happen... but my guess is that they will simply wait until 4.0 hits and develop their interface and software for that environment, rather than waste the time developing applications and testing for the end of life 2.x environment.

Yea, I hope we just get bumped right to ICS, instead of any pointless GB updates. I only said 2.3.5 because when I was in the Evo4G section the other day, I noticed that the current GB Beta from Deck is android 2.3.5 (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078558). I figured that when we get some CM AOSP on this thing that the nightlies will be based on 2.3.5. I haven't even looked to see what was included in the 2.3.5 update. It's probably a subtle change from 2.3.4, since it's only one point. I'm just so happy that we have s-off and will be seeing all this stuff soon.

I just saw this update myself, Not sure what it entails, nor would I take it right now if my phone wasn't about to be replaced in a couple days, because it's possible they have found the exploit used and are patching it up with an update like this... unlikely, but possible.

I get it every morning (every 24 Hrs) I haven't downloaded it yet. I don't plan to.
Keep in mind that with HTC's update to 2.3.4 you will also lose the ability to sync Facebook's contact info.... Don't be too hasty to rush out of a good thing and into something that is a big disappointment. That was a huge let down when I got my nexus s 4G. Had to root to get back into a version that supports the sync. But its my honest opinion.

I actually got that update yesterday, and accepted it by mistake. I had just flashed a rom, and had done a full wipe. When I was setting everything up, the update popped up. I pulled down the notification bar, and had a bunch of other stuff in the notifications. I somehow tapped it, and once it started I was unable to stop it. It did nothing but update the apps that it said it would. I had a missing phone icon on my lockscreen after flashing the rom. After taking that update by mistake, and rebooting, the phone icon was back. It did no harm to my root or bootloader. Over 3G, it only took about 30 seconds to download and install the update (so obviously it was nothing of considerable size), and it showed each individual app it downloaded and installed, similar to how the market will update apps when you allow it to.
Not saying to take it, nor am I saying to ever take an OTA, because you NEVER know what HTC has slipped in....but I am saying that I did take the update and no harm was done. I think it was one of the OTA updates from before that I never accepted. I think the factory reset prompted it.
The most basic rule of thumb when it comes to rooting your device is NEVER take an OTA ever ! Like mentioned before HTC might have found the exploit and are attempting to patch the hole up . Im no idiot and Im quite sure someone from HTC has already downloaded Revolutionary and are currently disecting it to find out what it does to root the device . Any upcoming updates will more than likely be caught and rooted by a dev then posted for the general rooting community . Patience is a virtue that sometimes pays off big time in the end .
I took that update, I buy if you use crossfire don't do it. It update like Apps so it doesn't use the recovery, but you have to restart your phone and when it comes back its distorted like heck.

My thoughts entirely deech
I've heard that there is a phone called the Atrix2 MB865 and is being shipped with OS 2.3 gingerbread as of october 2011 in the usa. So trying not to be too negative i personally don't think orange will update my MB860 before summer next year. I am giving it till the end of january and then i'll unlock my bootloader. http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_atrix_2-4199.php
I doubt there will ever be an GB update for the UK out-of-datrix.
Killed any passion I had for motorola - BOS if you ask me - I'll never buy another one of there ****ty phones ever again & will recommend to everyone they aviod them like the plague.

Yeah i've read that too, i also read somewhere that the Atrix is now EOL and isn't even 12 months old yet!! I can't believe this personally as this is still one of the fastest phones out there, and probably has the hardware to run ICS let alone Gingerbread.
I wish I could just "give" you my GB OTA. I have the Bell Atrix and am staying on Froyo. I've come close of pulling the trigger on my GB OTA, but I keep hearing the horror stories about battery life not being as good and others wishing they could go back to Froyo that I'm staying put.
I've used Gingerbread on my SGS and SGSII, and IMO GB doesn't have anything that I want anyway.
Now ICS is a completely different story. You should check out the ICS Launchers or ICS themes (some are in the market) and you won't even think about GB.
Hopefully we all get ICS (or go the CM9 route) because GB can easily be skipped over and left forgotten IMO...

If "No", please let us know why you chose to hold off, and if/when you plan to upgrade to the leak/ and or OTA.
I will start.
I chose not to upgrade yet.
Mainly because, if anyone reading this was around during the Eris, 2.1 leaked fiasco, you will understand my new and improved policy of waiting at least 3 full days on anything leaked.
Anyway, I also am holding out because
1) Joelz (I hope) will be making a patch for us folk who are waiting.
2) I have been getting better batt life on GB
3) hasn't been 3 days yet.. but now that the firmware is out, I may be editing this post in a couple days.
Reminds me of the 3 day rule for not calling a chick after you get her number. HAH!
I went ahead and updated....we'll see how this goes.
I just upgraded to CleanROM 3.7, so I'm going to wait for the official release of ICS before I flash a next ROM.

I voted No... ICS is not that big of a deal for me. My phone is #1 a business tool and having it work is more important that how it looks. That being said, I am quite content right now with GB, how the device looks and works. Battery life is acceptable and I can use all of the tools I need to use. It is one very AWESOME phone as it is right now.
This might change if I see a lot of users using it without a lot of issues, but I might just wait until the Official OTA arrives.
There are more things to life than ICS....
Never ending... after the masses gets ICS they will want JB and then they will demand KLP.... it never ends.
I did almost bricked in the process as well
But all in all I say its worth it. We atleast have a method to downgrade the hboot if needed

Just saw in Scotts ics thread you can't go back to Gingerbread after Ics ruu (he even updated his op).....so I will be holding off....at least until gets proven otherwise
Edit: now Scott is saying you can go back but there's a sd issue...however he said there is a fix....

I didn't vote because there's no option for "I'm on the second ICS leak and waiting for more ROMs to be based off of the third leak".
I just hope there will be a Rom that doesn't require the ics ruu as a prerequisite.
I am sure those of us with our tin foil hats would really appreciate it.
Also I can only imagine the forums whenever the official release comes and by chance it doesn't play nice with the leak.
Looks like gb for me, unless there's a Rom that doesn't require this leak. Guess time will tell...hopefully everything works out for everyone but I will just err on the cautious side.

new firmware
I got the AndroidPolice all-stock zip of the new VZN ICS. Experimented all day with it including the TAMPERERED warning, and other stuff. Found out that when 100% bone stock, the new ICS will allow you to freeze/eliminate all the things I don't use, like VZN Navigator, Twitter, Trneds, NFLMobile, Lets Golf,Hot Pursuit, Freindstream, etc. So, I am ReLocked, and stock and happy because a bunch of bloaty things don't start and can't be seen in the app drawer. Bottom Line: the new ICS is gonna be so great, some folks won't have to unlock to get exactly what they want. Warning: if you check it out, getting back to GB isn't impossible, but it's a hassle.

a) I made the wrong choice and should have stayed with Sammy phones
b) That none of the custom roms seem to have everything on the phone working 100%???
Or have I misread whats going on with this phone?

hi,
short answer: no
long answer:
a) the RAZR itself is better manufactured than a samsung phone (no plastic case) and looks much better and looking for the hardware, the SGS2 and RAZR are on the "same" level...
b) you have to differ... there are ROM's that works 100% and than there are ROM's that doesn't...
- fully functional ROM's are mostly based on Android 2.3.5/6
- partial working ROM's are based on Android 4.0.3/4 but only on earlier leaked ROM's...
if you want some custom ROM now, try "The Arctic", it's fully functional
and if you just wait for some ICS, there will be some custom 4.0.4 ROM's sooner or later
PS: sorry for my miserable english i hope it's helpful
Many here seem to enjoy the razr, especially with the latest ICS leak.
The reason I installed the .79 leak last Thursday (.211 as of about an hour ago) is because I was sick and tired of waiting on Moto and Verizon. Personally, I'd go with the S3, but that's just me. I'm actually considering ordering it since I have a line eligible for upgrade.

Hi Sh4itan.. well both of you actually
Big thank you - this is what I wanted to hear.
Funny enough my family is from Germany so your answer is pretty much what I wanted to hear in that form!
With my SGS 1 I had a heap of different rom's, mods and hacks that I loved playing with (IT worker here) and so I had also figured out that the hardware of the Razr was on par and that was sweet - and while I also figured there might have been some GB ROM's with everything 100% - I had a moment where I was starting to think that ICS ROM's couldn't get everything going as GPS and tethering is also something I use heaps for my Xoom tablet. But then it is early days for the Razr as well
Thank you both again for the replies and I hope this thread helps anyone else wondering the same thing - altho from my point of view - I got no issues messing with it either hehe
Cheers!
There are a few ICS leaks that have been briefly mentioned on this site and others, and there are custom builds for those leaked images that are fairly solid.
I was running the .79 leak, with the Black Widow "ROM", and that was more stable than the stock GB release.
You have options, they just aren't as easy to install as some of the Samsung bits. Yet.
ICS was ready two months ago (.79 build date) in my opinion. I think Motonverizola is being silly about their QA process, and a lot of folks are getting (rightfully) POed.
Dont install the arctic rom.. it has many bugs after some time of usage

Yeah some reading has showed that ripping out the battery is not an easy task unlike the SGS and if you get boot looping you got issues lol
But I agreee - QA can get alot PO'd quick - and ta for the mention of the Black Widow ROM.
I will have to be a little more careful about flashing this one but then again - if I get that factory cable for flashing with RDSlite from what I can gather I should be covered.
I am using the ICS leak 211 and I can't find anything that doesn't work fantastic.
Fastest phone I have ever had in my hands.
Also if you get Apex launcher it works just like ICS launcher but is fully customisable.

Yes, two things, if u are CDMA RaZr, u won't have issues. If u are GSM, WORRY NOT! there is a patch that will run the ROM just fine...
not working :
Video camcorder
HW acceleration...
but thats only a matter of time.... it kicks MotoBla in the nads to be very honest...heheheh..plz dont hate me all for saying this...I am just loving the stock ICS experience....
I thought i would amend my previous statement.
After using .211 for the day, I'm enjoying this phone. Right now, I have no complaints. I haven't found anything wrong with this leak (which sounds like it is ending up to be the official).
The razr is shaping up to be the phone that I expected it to be when I first got it back in December.

This morning there was a knock at the door with a nice man holding my new phone have to say stock - its actually not bad at all and I really am impressed with it after having a galaxy S with ICS on it and heaps of different versions in between.
It came with 2.3.5 on there, but I see there are already updates from Motorola up to 2.3.6.
I'll start there and keep it stock for a little bit then try out some of the roms above.
Thanks again all
