Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm on a 3g plan for AT&T and am unable to receive calls from iPhone users. It rings and rings until it goes to voice mail without my phone ever going off.
I am able to make calls, but unable to receive them.
I changed my APN settings to my previous settings and still no dice.
lol

Is anyone having a problem where calls go straight to voicemail when data is in use?
This is a serious flaw if its by design!
I'm on o2 with the latest rooted rom. Not the custom modaco one.
Well I've just found out this is a feature of 2g rather than a phone problem. You can only take calls and browse if you have 3g signal.
Maybe on O2, but I get calls coming in no matter what I am doing on my Hero with a 2G signal.
I'm on Orange.
Same on my Nokia's too.
We only have 2G at home so I know its not a 2G / 3G thing (for me at least).
Perhaps I need some different APN settings. Could someone else on o2 UK confirm whether this is a problem or not? Also if you could post your apn details?
My apologies.
You are right and i am wrong.
If browsing on 2G the call is routed to voicemail. Even if you press Home and stop browsing, the call is routed to voicemail.
It seems that only until you have tried to make an outgoing call will it kill something and accept incoming calls again.
No wonder I keep getting missed call texts from Orange.
It would appear that if the Hero is doing anything on GPRS (Weather, Mail, RSS etc) it will not accept calls.
Thats pretty crap.
My old Nokia's were not affected like this I'm sure... maybe they were and I never noticed.
if you can open a Browser window while on a call it will tell you that there is no data connection or to use WiFi.
So is this a 'feature' of the Hero or the 2G network ?
From further investigation it seems to apply to all 2g networks. I've done a bit of googling and there are a few posts about the iphone and similar issues.
I wouldn't mind if I could get a 3g signal in most places. I really hope that radio firmware gets better. Seeing as I can get 3g on o2 in a different phone at home.
Sigh, oh well... looks like people need to learn to SMS me or actually leave a message
This also explains why my TomTom used to crap out whenever I was on the phone (Nokia) sometimes... when it worked I must have been in a 3G area.
it's both phone and network dependent.
many phones do this on 2G, as there is no 2G device in the world that i am aware of that will do voice AND data at the same time.
However, due to this limitation, many networks have set up their network to forcibly terminate a data connection when a call is waiting to be routed to that phone. I don't know if it is a command that is sent to the phone that the phone has to interpret and support, or if it is simply killed from the network end.
some network/phone combos do it, some dont. it just depends on the combination of the two i think.
similar things happen on HSDPA, yet you can see the same HTC phone get forced down from HSDPA to 3G on t-mobile to accept an incoming call, but do nothing and get a voicemail on Vodafone!
Thanks for the response rhedgehog. I think if nothing else its good that people are made aware, I had no idea!
I would be interested to know whether other networks disconnect the data on the hero in order to receive calls. It would also be interesting to know whether other android handsets do the same.
My data habits have now changed. No more exchange push email - only check every 15 mins.
I don't know if this is happening to anyone else, but I haven't been able to send any text messages while I'm on a phone call. I've tried different numbers and it always fails. Anyone else having this issue?
I sent a bunch of texts during a phone call just fine from my home, which is in a fringe service area (I get 4g tho, but roam routinely). I did this over 3g.
I've had the Galaxy S2 for about 2 months now without any problems.
As of last Friday, I can't receive incoming calls. People who try to call me hear one beep and then they get my voicemail.
Outgoing calls work just fine, as does SMS (incoming and outgoing).
I've put my T-Mobile SIM in another phone and then it is able to receive a call. Another SIM in my phone -> same problem: no incoming calls.
So I figured it must be the phone.
Customer support has started an investigation but that can take up to 1 week, so I thought let's ask XDA.
Can it be a simple setting that I've accidentally changed? Pretty often when I take my phone from my pocket, the screen is unlocked so that could be a cause.
If anyone has a clue or an identical situation, please let me know.

Does your phone ring when a call comes in and also does it go straight through to your voicemail?

Straight to voicemail. But I've figured it out after 3 days
There's an option to automatically block all incoming calls in the settings. Must have accidentally been activated when the phone was in my pocket.

In my case, the phone does not ring when I get a call at all. I have searched hi and low and I cant find a solution. I have rebooted, i have reflashed, I have changed my ringtone and nothing seems to work, please help!!
Hello my girlfriends SGS 2 has almost the same problem it cannot receive calls sometimes even though she can call everyone. The problem seems to fix by itself sometimes and it appears random.
I read that there was a problem with the samsung galaxy s when using 2G/EDGE connection with data activated and the problem was that the user could not receive calls randomly.
Can you confirm that you are using 2G/EDGE connection and Data activated? I am also trying to find the cause of this problem...
Hope my research helps good luck and waiting for your reply. (http://www.samsunggalaxysforum.com/...eive-incoming-calls-and-sms-while-using-edge/)
Later EDIT ---
She also has a vodafone provider but i have the same provider and never had this issue. Also no call filtering is done.
Make sure Call Forwarding is Disabled under Settings- Call- Call forwarding. And also try to delete the Voicemail number if you had set any.
Regards.
it's nothing Call Forwarding is Disabled related it is because of EDGE connection you can't have a sync or internet connection and while "dialing" data receive calls if you want to call anyone the network prioritizes and let's you dial whoever you want but it is not the same thing for incoming calls
^ Went over my head !
had the same problem in a bad 3g/data coverage area. solution was simply to turn data off and the calls started to come through.
turned data back on and now working ok.
I've tried MROM and Topsmarts now with the same results. After some time the phone stops being able to dial out nor does it ring when someone calls, everything else seems to work as I can surf the internet and sms seems to work. I never know when this happens until I try to place a call and it says dialing ....then after about 10sec I get the hangup notification. The Phone is a unlocked and rooted AT&T phone now on the T-Mobile network, anyone else having this issue? The network is set to GSM/WCDMA Preferred and the APN set itself to T-Mobile US "epc.tmobile.com".
So phone is not working because of 3g gone on AT &T.
All incoming calls go directly to voicemail. Outgoing calls take two clicks to enable.
I am roaming in US from Canada. My provider Rogers told me to switch network to T-Mobile. That works but the problem is network selection has one choice Automatic. When you turn off and go to networks then chose T-Mobile it works but the phone shortly after turns back on automatic and AT&T then comes back.
Anyone have a solution to this?
I have a similar problem. All incoming calls go straight to voicemail. Outgoing calls and data service is fine.
I am using ATnT and Redpocket in USA.
Spoke with technical people at redpocket and they gave me new APNs. With one APN I started getting incoming calls but no data. They also suggested that my phone is not compatible as they are shutting down 3g service, but it doesn't make sense as I can still make outgoing calls plus with a different APN I can get incoming calls too.
I don't understand the reasons why this phone will not work. Maybe it uses volte to make outgoing calls. When I first dial a number it just closes but when dialed a second time it connected fine.
Back in Canada and no problem here. When roaming in the US it worked fine on T-Mobile but the phone kept defaulting back to AT&T which is Rogers Canada primary network affiliate for roaming in US.
Phone works fine on T-Mobile but that will end end of this year when they drop 3G.
Am trying to get an answer from Huawei support but so far nothing.
Will post any info I get from them.
