[Q] Why is Windows showing deleted files on CM9? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was stupid and accidentally formatted my internal SD memory. I make semi-regular backups and I read the warning for the CM9 alpha a million times, but the issue I have is that when I plug my phone into my windows 7 machine it shows all the files being there. I obviously can't access them and I was wondering why this is happening. I'm too tired to deal with it right now, so I'm just FTPing my files onto the phone over night. Any help or information would be appreciated.

Definitely sounds odd. There is a free program to recover deleted items on Android. I'll see if I can find it and link it back here.
Edit: here it is, completely free. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355439

Problem transferring large amount of data from pc to vibrant

Hey everyone-
I don't know if anyone else has experienced this problem before, but I've been trying to transfer a fairly large amount of music to my Vibrant from my pc lately and I keep getting error messages whenever I attempt any transfers, even ones less than maybe a 1.5 gigs. Whenever I attempt to do this the transfers stop about halfway through the process. And I've tried flashing a couple different roms and that hasn't helped, and I've obviously made sure I have enough free space on my internal SD beforehand. Any ideas?
-thanks, bobofosho123
Yea tried 8gb and didn't work
So just try 2gb at a time

There are two reasons for that.
First, some roms have a problem with that, there is a fix in dev section if you are using Froyo
Another problem could be (it did happen to me) that there are certain symbols on songs titles that Android won't recognize creating an error
If it always fails in certain file or folder, try renaming it osr skipping it and see what happens
Thanks for the help guys, I figured it out. I was able to transfer all 11 gigs of my music to my Vib without a hitch, thnx.

Running low on Space on Internal card.

Just noticed my available space on my internal sdcard is sitting at around 2 gigs. This makes no sense. I dont have any music on it and I have gone through and deleted old pics and videos. I have also deleted old nandroid backups as well as files that i used to flash like roms and fixes.
Any ideas on whats causing this. I am running Kirf custom with voodoo enabled.
Are you sure that, that's your internal sd card and not the external sd card that you are reading off of? If you do have an external sd card please remove it, then reboot your phone, then check your memory once again without the external sd card inserted. Doing so should eliminate any confusion/confusions of you reading the wrong information.

Im looking at the right one. It says phone storage Total space:12.78 available space:1.90. With the apps I usually have installed I remember having at least 7 gigs free. This makes no sense to me.

Do you have a lot of ROMs stored on it?? a lot of game data?
these two things tend to chew up a looot of memory
I did delete all my stored roms. I do have need for speed shift installed I know it installed 150mbs when it first started up but maybe its the game save data then. I just would have thought the videos I was recording would have taken up alot more space than they did.

Just mount your sd to your PC and arrange all files/folders according to size, then browse around and you should find out whats eating your space up
I had a similar problem earlier on, it turns out that one of my database files had some how gotten corrupted and bloated to taking up a lot more space than they should have. I would check the size of your database files to make sure this hasn't happened to you.
So I figured it out. Set file manager to show hidden files. There was a folder called. trashes. Went into the folder and there was everything I ever deleted. Hit select all and delete and I am now back at 12 gigs of space. That folder had 10 gigs of trash in it! I recommendations to every one look into doing this if you are low on space.

You must have a mac, adamboyd. Am I right?
This has to do with the way macs "send" files to the trash can, which is different than a PC's recycle bin. A mac does not move the file from where it was located when you send it to the trash can, it simply places it in a hidden "trashes" folder. This isn't an issue when the files are on your computer, but when you're using your mac to delete files on an external drive (flash drives, or your phone's sd), the file remains on the drive in the hidden folder your mac created and eventually you run into the problem you experienced.
Solution: Always empty the Trash Can before ejecting the drive from your mac. That action searches out and permanently deletes all files located in the hidden trashes folders. If you empty the trash can after you've ejected the phone's sd from the computer, then obviously it won't be able to locate and delete the files that you had "moved" to the trash.
Hope that helps!
Good to know. And yeah I have a mac. I never knew that but I do now.

No problem! I remember that frustrating me bad when I first got mine until I figured out what was going on.

Also, if you make ClockWorkMod nandroid backups, they can add up fast as well. If you're low on space then you might want to move the older ones elsewhere or delete them from the phone.

[Q] Apps and SD Card

ok. I hope this isnt too much of a newb question...
I have looked all over to see if I could find any problems with people getting apps off of their SD card. I found a few topics and reviewed them, but I have had little luck. Most of those threads also involve root problems whereas my Evo 3d is still stock (updated to 2.3.4).
The main problem Im having (aside from linpak and various other benchmarks being dramatically reduced) is that I can not get the apps off of my SD card to show on the phone.
I performed a factory reset on the phone prior to the update as I've read several times that it is the preferred method of updating since it wipes the Dalvik (sp?) cache or whatever. I guess if you just update without wiping, it clogs up the cache or something to that effect.
Anyhow, I moved all the apps to SD. I did the wipe, then I did the OTA. Once the OTA was complete it would not recognize my apps at all. They DO NOT show up under app management as being on the SD. It is blank. It does however still show my music and pictures.
Since I swapped my 8 GeeBee card with a 16 I figured perhaps the card was corrupted somehow. So, I took my OEM Sandisk 8gb card and put that in and it wont transfer the apps that were on that either.
Ive tried to restart. Nothing. Ive unmounted the SD card, restarted without a card. Shut down. Put card back in, mounted. Still nothing .
Any help guys...and again, sorry if this is a newb question.
Use any third party apps? I believe the system installer doesn't check external storage. Try Astro free and you should be ok. Let me know what you run into

Ooh and most benchmarks for this phone are inaccurate due to its resolution. They may have updated to account for this but that's what I've heard as of late.
It's a 1.2 factory dual core so why of super Oct'd phones and tablets you should reign supreme.

I have a couple apps from Amazon but not many. so when I used astro I tried to find the apps and couldn't find any. Normally on my PC they are listed under Android secure...when I pull that up with astro it says directory empty..but they do show up when I have the card in my laptop...
Also, when I switched my sd out before all I had to do was copy the files and pop it in the phone. They showed up right away. Not sure why phone won't recognize them now.

Tries an adb push?

They shouldn't be in secure yet I'd they're typically ibstalld
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Yeah. I'm not sure what the deal is. I just ended up wupping the sd card and starting over. I have a spare sd I moved all my pics and such to so I'm not too worried about it.

[Q] Phone using up all it's internal storage

Hello all,
Today I noticed that my DNA only has roughly 1.5GB of internal storage left on the phone. Going to Settings>Storage, I see that my phone currently has 10.64GB of data under the section 'other'.
For the life of me, I cannot find out where these 10.6GBs are hiding. Plugging my phone into my computer, I am not able to find any folder that is using up that much space. I was not able to run a program like WinDirStat (a disk usage statistics program which identifies where most of your storage is being used up) on the phone because Windows doesn't see it as an external storage, but as an external device. I then went into Windows Explorer, unhid all folders, and copied them to my computer. Even when copying it over, it only moved over roughly 4GBs, which is what my apps/music/pics/vids were using up.
I don't have many downloaded apps, and most of them are productivity related (ie - very few games on the phone). I am at a complete loss and just short of simply resetting the phone.
Some helpful data:
Apps: 1.51 GB
Music: 2.64MB
Photos & Video: 2.4GB
Other: 10.65GB
Available: 1.44GB
Stock DNA running 4.1.1
I don't know why its at 10 gigs for you, but it does include the whole os, which is a few gigs.

What is yours currently at? I'm curious how much more my phone is adding up.
I've also tried rebooting to see if that might free some up, no luck.

[Q] Sd Card Issues

Hey guys I've noticed an issue with the phone reading slash showing duplicates I'd certain files...namely music, mp3's. I use Dropbox for most of my file storage, this my music files are stored there. I used the Dropbox app to download about 10 mp3's by "export(ing) to external sd." Once I went into the stock music app (yeah I use stock lol) it showed exactly two of each of the files I added. Nowhere on my external sd are they duplicated, only one of each, I also searched the internal sd and didn't find any of said files there.... Finally, once I used stock file manager app to delete the music files giving me the issue, upon going back into stock music app-the app was still showing (only one now) the files I deleted, but it was unable to play them. I cleared the music apps cache and storage then restarted the phone which removed all traces of the deleted files and duplicates. My question is this: is this Dropbox app related? Anyone else have this issue or can recreate it? Is there maybe a known bug/fix I've missed in the forums somehow? Lastly, some additional information...if I transfer from my computer it doesn't do the duplicate file garbage....odd. I haven't tried using the stock file manager app's "online" access method to download files from Dropbox so I dunno if that does it too or not...
Thanks in advance for any help and or insight offered!
Unrelated topic: One more quick question: I'm aiming to find a way to make holding the vol buttons skips to next song but due to my noobness I'm unsure as to whether this is a tweak or mod? I'm using the mobile xda app from work now so I can't search the forums at the moment, is this covered in our forums that I've missed? If not, I'd eventually like to start a walk through thread for it... Thanks again guys.

Try to look into internal storage folder /android/data/com.dropbox.android/...
I don't know about xda app but on tapatalk app(almost the same app) you can search...
