[Q] Best music/podcast player for CAR/Bluetooth - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm looking for the best music/podcast player for CAR/Bluetooth, and I'm interested in your experiences.
It should have
- nice screen: big, nice CD Art, position in track, play/pause button (nothing more, bluetooth car stereo will command the rest), less clutter as possible
- equalizer
- good library navigation, maybe horizontal scrolling for comfortable landscape use
Any suggestions ?

the galaxy s2 stock player works well for me, although I have tried poweramp in the past and also liked it. it has most of the features you asked for, just not sure about the horizontal mode...

[Q][NEED] Suggest me a nice music player app

i own an ipad & it has the best sound quality i ever heard !!
but sammy's musicplayer was lil bit crappy, so Can anyone suggest me a good musicplayer app for SGSII with iPad sound quality ?!!
Try PowerAmp (maybe with some equalizer app), but word is SGS2 will never have good sound, sorry.
Yeah unfortunately the music players don't affect the sound quality, although some allow you to edit the EQ which can help depending on what you're listening with.
My preference is Player Pro. To follow Lifehacker's style...
Where it excels:
- Lots of free good quality skin options
- Reliable lock screen controls
- Can override headset click
- Override volume buttons to allow skip fw/back
- 5 star ratings both in player and on lock screen
- Can show lyrics, download album art automatically
Where it falls short:
- It doesn't seem to have great playlist editing or "smart playlists"
- No iTunes or PC syncing
- The widgets could be better

Music player with right/left balance control?

Are there any music players that have a simple balance control (Fade between right and left)?
I have a little hearing loss I'm one ear and have found all sorts of fancy controls on players, but none with this simple one. Or am I just looking in the wrong places?

PowerAmp has such a control.

Music Player with great sound quality

we all know that our players sound very poor and the built in eq(stock music app) is really crappy ,
so i found a player with very awesome sound quality , with punchy bass
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.n7mobile.nplayer&feature=search_result
my custom eq settings are 15,2,4,1,4
bass boost off , srs at abou 30%

Hmmm,
With decent headphones, I am quite pleased with the stock music app.
Sounds great actually.
better than any of my friends ipods. lol
I installed "n7player" about a week ago, used it for 20 minutes and removed it.
Just wasnt all that pleased with it, and it certainly didnt seem to "work" any better than the stock player.~ Sound, Function, etc.
With real headphones I have plenty of great bass.
edit: but dammit man...
now Im going to have to reinstall it and really study the sound differences. grrr. lol
I like this music player too, but there should be a shuffle button in the app itself.
I really like the UI though and the equalizer.
But the problem with the bassbooster is that it stutters while playing the song, which is very annoying. So I had to turn it off Hope they're gonna fix this, or is it just me?
Alright, Been playing with it for the past hour or so..
and I do stand corrected.
It does sound nicer! lol
Takes a lil bit of getting used to, but it is quite nice.
Shoulda gave it more than a few minutes last time.
Thanks OP.
edit: also noticed the bassbooster stutter. :/
edit2~ it seems the bassbooster only stutters when a "preset" is selected.
if the EQ preset is set to "off", i get no stutter.
but as soon as I change the preset, it goes back to the stutter.
hmmm
edit3~ lol
Seems like bassbooster is not even required when using OP's settings. very niice!
glad you made me rethink this player OP! <3
I've tried only 3 or 4 music players, but I strongly recommend PowerAmp.
For me is which has the best sound quality.
And have so many options and funcionalities; and a very good interface (if you have full version)

Was just having a look around in the settings,
and if you go to settings>playback settings>
you'll see a
"Use audio proxy buffering"[Experimental, Select this option only if the sound stutters/skips"
Maybe try that?
Ill check it out later, but for now i have plenty of bass using OP's settings. lol

I checked out Poweramp also, and removed it after 15 minutes. lol
Didnt seem like an app id want to pay for.
Liking this N7-player more and more though. :O
Found out that when you use the 4×2 widget on the homescreen it doesn't fit correctly. I have the BW weather widget just above it, and when I turn my screen into landscape mode there is no space between the two widgets, which is ugly as hell.
Really does
Really does sound better than the stock app, well for me at least. Thanks for the link!

hmm, both of the widgets seem fine for me. (4.0)
small and medium both, I dont see a problem.
but damn, I really am loving this player now. lol
Ok I've tested PowerAMP and N7 again, and I have to conclude that PowerAMP is still my favourite, but N7 is a nice one too. But the AMP's quality is just godly <3
N7 has a nice UI, but I really like the UI of Cubed better. I just tried N7 and it skips a lot, even with minimal equalizer settings. Poweramp is best sound quality, and does not skip on my SGP5.
Ive been listening to music most of the day using N7 player and havent had it skip yet.
huh
I've been using PowerAmp for about a year now. I usually get the most use out of the tone adjustment feature more than anything. A little tweaking with it and the Bass & Treble Boost EQ on and it sounds amazing.
Then I decided to try the Beats Audio mod 'cause... Well, why not, and I was pleasantly surprised. With that and a little tweak of the tone in PowerAmp and I'm beyond happy.
Just food for thought.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226
I tried it again and found it only skips when bass boost or srs is on. It does seem to have less distortion than poweramp. I'm liking the sound as long as it doesn't skip.
Is there a way to save custom equalizer setting?

the bass boost function comes at a cost , it reduces other sounds ,
best is to keep bass boost off and the bass in eq to 15
I'm gunna give this a try.. although I've really been itching to buy Neutron lately. PowerAMP sounds good, but Neutron sounds fantastic!
Maybe this will alleviate that itch.
Poweramp is pretty good. It has a simple interface, presets, equalizer and you can get extra widgets on the store
just installed power amp (full)..
it is quite nice!
Not sure i like it better than N7 yet..
But it is very niice.
wish I could bring the stability of poweramp and the features/setup of N7 into one player. lol

Question, did you use the regular flash, or the one for Samsung devices (SII)?
If you are looking for great sound, use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543366 ROM and the built in DSP Equalizer from Cyanogenmod is AMAZING!!! Once you set it up the way you want it... You will love it.

JB Music Player

Hi, guys,
I would like to know which you find is the best music player for a JB ROM on our device? By best I mean:
-Sound quality
-Features (for example equalizer)
-DSP-Manager support
-Minimum size
-Design
Thanks for the awnsers .
Sent from my U20i using xda app-developers app
I recommend you Android Music Player. It havent got a good design but it fast, simply and size of them is about 1MB. Also you can download Songbird Music Player (with nice design). I thinh in google play store is now avaible google music player, but the size of this app i big
Sorry for my english
First of all, thanks for the suggestion. Do you know where to get a working version for JB (I dont mean the one from play store)?
Does songbird have DSP/Manager support?
yo can look here and search for the music player apps you need there are some for JB too
Mixzing 2.6.2 is only 1.17mb and has the better Eq settings of them all ( every song can have is own preset ).
JetAudio Basic - it's 6 to 7mb but drains as much battery as the normal player of androids, and has Eq, Wide Stereo, Bass Enhacement, Reverb and AGC.
PowerAmp - 3mb, Drains less battery than both of them and has EQ/Stereo Widening/Limit Compressor/Gain. This apk is paid xD.
These are the best.

Hey,guys, I just found a great solution to my/our problem: XingPlayer:
-Lyric support
-Album art support
-DSP-Manager support
-Great design
-Sleep timer
-Lockscreen widget/notification bar wiget
-And its only 2 mb
I tested Jetaudio Basic, and my first impression was "Dang!!! Great Player! Look at all the features!", but then I tested equalizer and xbass on my headphones and the Sound just completely crapped up (I was listening to Snow by the Red Hot Chili Peppers). This never happened to me with players that used DSP-Manager as equalizer . I havn't tried Sonbird yet, so we'll have to see with that one...

How did you use Jetaudio? remember that jetaudio already has an eq and all other effects, so you can't have dsp active if the player already has an eq, Eq + Eq = Colision of Eq's, so if you want a good sound don't use 2 eq's at the same time, don't abuse on the use of wide stereo and reverb and x-bass. Mixzing has an eq 2 and the very best eq settings because every song can have its own preset, and it's only 1.17mb, less than 2mb of xingplayer.
This are players to be used without a second eq, with second eq i'm meaning of Dsp managers and eq's that are not included on the players.
But if you want a good single player to work with dps manager, then you got these: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5qcnRzdHVkaW8ubXVzaWMiXQ.. less than 1mb, this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5lbGlmZXJ1bi5tdXNpYyJd 1.1mb, https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5uZXBzcXVhcmUuTlNQbGF5ZXIiXQ.. 405kb, https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNuLnZvaWxldC5nb29kdm9pY2VwbGF5ZXIiXQ.. 345kb, https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImtlLnBsYXllciJd only 153kb, https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5rYW5lLnhwbGF5LmFjdGl2aXRpZXMiXQ.. 2.9mb and has eq bass enhancement and virtualizer ( i think it would sound cool if you tweak the virtualizer and make nice eq settings with the player or the dsp manager ), https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImpwLnUxYXJ5ei5wcm9kdWN0cy5tZWRpYXBsdXMiXQ.. 492kb and it's good looking, and i think that's all xD, tell me if you like some of those .

Thanks for all your trouble! I didn't even know there where so many good music players out there! My personal favourite on your list was MediaPlus player because of the style, the performance and the size. It would have easily beaten Xing, if DSP-manager had supported it: This is what happened: I killed DSP-manager and all music apps left on my phone (xing and mediaplus). Then I restarted DSP-manager and opened mediaplus, played a song, but DSP-managers sound effects didn't kick in, no matter how often I opened dsp and fiddled with the settings. The , I tried xing and the sound effects kicked in immediatly! Why don't you give it a try?

As for JetAudio, no, I didn't use Dsp, I actually deleted dsp to stop it interfering while testing JetAudio. Once I turned xbass and everything off, the sound didn't crap up, but then the sound quality wasn't comparable to a dsp-powered music application.

http://www.1mobile.com/equalizer-music-player-664712.html - This one without dsp just using its eq settings have very nice sound for me, for me i put Rock preset then slide almost all the way up the 3rd bar of the Eq then volume all way up and the bass in the left area almost all the way down, and important ( don't select any rverb effects on the bottom, just use the bars ) it sounded very nice for me, very loud with quality! but that was for me, i don't know if you would like the sound with these settings, give it a try . I'll answer to the rest of your post later, i'm gonna eat now xD.

You're welcome! Yes there are but the best ones are too much for our mini pro to handle :S, i always wanted to try Neutron Music Player but it always force closes on this phone :S. yes i really looks good, but if it doesn't support dsp that's too bad. Did you check every option of the mediaplus to see if it had anything to (enable) dsp or sound effects? About xingplayer it looks like the original music app that already is in the roms but the roms version is already 1mb or less and compatible with dsp, so i think for now the original music app of the rom wins.
Honestly i don't see what is the difference beetween using or not the dsp manager comparing to music players with eq and effects in it, i used both techniques and the results are very much the same, but that EQ music player is the one i liked the most in terms of sound quality/volume.
About jetaudio, i think that everything is pretty much the same, dsp changes volume but pre-amp of jetaudio does 2, dsp changes eq but jetaudio does it 2, both have reverb effects as well, so i think there is no real difference beetween players with everything in it and dsp supported players, at least i didn't hear the difference beetween both techniques.

Now, this is very interesting, because on my phone, comparing dsp-powered apps with preinstalled equalizer apps is like comparing night with day: I think DSP-Manager makes the sound SO much better, no idea why you don't hear any difference. Hmm...
PS.: Have you tested my Rom with nAa's new kernel (why the heck did he call it v02, when the older version is called v03?!)?

Did you try that player and eq settings that i just said?.
Interesting in deed, did you use the same effects with the same values on both techniques? i did that and the result was always the same. If i'm not doing the right eq settings then maybe you could show me the difference by making a screenshot or saying here the effects and the values that you put on your dsp. Remember i only listen to heavy music like rock and rapcore and stuff xD, it's (distorted) sounds, so it must be carefully tweaked, much more careful than any other type of music.
Ps: no i didn't, but i don't think that it's going to do much in performance or sound quality, maybe it just let's you use more options that weren't available. And maybe the name v02 is because he might based the kernel in the older v02 version being an update to that kernel.

I myself almost only listen to rock, but I like the bass being really powerful . I'll upload a screenshot with my DSP settings soon. One thing I noticed about the different music players: Only the ones where you press the menu button and have the option 'sound effects' or 'equalizer', which gets you to the dsp settings, actually make a difference with dsp. The ones where you don't have that option don't change the sound with dsp. I really would recommend xing to you, okay, the library looks exactly like the stock os player, and it's about double the size, BUT it has much more features and I like the playback style and the sleep timer (and the lockscreen). Also, when you press the menu button, it gives you the chance to go to dsp, which means that It DEFINITLY supports it!
PS.: Sorry, but at the moment I'm on stock rom to test a script I wrote for the guy in the wifi tethering thread. I think I'll reflash this evening and test the player, looks good .

Good, 3rd party, music app recommendation?

I'm looking for a good music app with a fairly decent and modern UI? My favorite music player is n7 Player, but it's not compatible with Dolby Atmos and disables it, so everything else sounds horrible. I've also tried it with v4A, and it does something to it when you get a notification or call and you have to restart your phone for it to work correctly again.
I've tried A BUNCH of them, let me list what I have not and what I've tried.
What I have:
Could Player (by Double Twist) - My current main music app = Good features, but fairly "bland" in the UI dept, but not ugly or outdated - just "bland"
Shuttle + has been my simple, backup player for over 4 years - Just not a not of features, but very reliable and I never have problems with it
XenoAmp = I just started using this one last month, still not sure about it?? Very different, not too logically laid out
What I've tried (most, just this week):
The stock app... Nobody uses the stock app (I don't like it)
PowerAmp (alpha) - Can't stand the UI
Neutorn - Can't stand the UI, reminds me of an 80s video game
Pulse - Is basically like Shuttle
Music Player (by Ankit P Agrawal) - Just found this one, evaluating it before I purchase it
Timber - Not all the album art downloads
AIMP - Didn't like
PlayerPro - I bought the pro version this week, way too laggy and buggy - freezes up, won't change songs
JetAudio HD - Nice, has a noticable volume drop on the speakers - Also has a boring UI
Rocket Player - Love it, but the Cloud Expansion pack crashes the app and makes it unusable. Without it, over half my album art is missing.
Wave Music Player - Don't like
Minima - Still in beta and not a lot of features
Black Player - Didn't like
Pi Music player - didn't like
Flatnote - Didn't like (not all album art downloaded)
Stellio Music Player - I bought it over a year ago, just don't like it
Dub Music Player - didn't like
Phonograpy - didn't like
Vortex - Didn't like
Crimson - Didn't like
Abbey - I wanted to like this one, but didn't load all album art
There's been so many more I've tried, some I didn't like, about 4 or 5 completely disabled Dolby Atmos...... But maybe someone has one I haven't tried?
If you ask what I like??
I want n7 to work again, dang it!
Dark Theme
Easy access to Artist and then an album lay-out under Artist
I'd like an EQ I can use along with Dolby, that doesn't disable it or override it.
A nice "now playing" screen
Album and artist art download for all, or most, of my 2500+ songs
Try Music from Sony. Either search for a port or use the one which can be installed during the installation of Viper arise.
They included one more optional music player called Esira. Just tried it once but I prefer the one from Sony.
Google Play Music is compatible with Dolby and it gets the job done for me.
I'm also using sony music app
Jet audio is the best player available

Going to try it. loving neutron at the moment, wish they cleaned up UI.
Update: listened it for a bit... I approve the app, will be buying pro version to show support.
I've been using Rocket Player and Jet Audio and I like them both. However, I also have ARISE installed and let that take care of audio enhancement. For me, it comes down to which UI I like best.
Poweramp paid version
I've got the paid/pro versions of:
Jet Audio - Didn't like the fact it didn't load all my album art
Rocket Player - If I want my album art, I have to use the Cloud add-on and it constantly crashses the app. Support thinks its some of my song causing the issue, but can't tell me which ones (even with a catlog).
PowerAmp (my first Android purchase several years ago) - Can't stand the outdated UI any more.
I tried the evaluation period of Neutron, exclusively, and tried to like the UI....But couldn't
This is the newest one I've found that I really like the UI on - But you can't use the built in EQ the same time as Doly: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ankit.musicplayer.pro
I'm going to look for the Sony app and try it.

You should think about your collection then. Jet audio so far has loaded every single one of my album art and i have 4502 songs

Not sure why, then, Jet Audio won't load 75% of my album art, or artist art? May be because some of it is stuff I've had for 20 years?
But, in saying that... The other two players find 95% of the art?
In the pics, the 1st one is Jet, the 2nd one is Music (Ghost music), the 3rd is Cloud music (by Double Twist)
onkyo.
"err on the side of kindness"
Kind of liking Gone Mad Music player... It's pretty powerful and customizable at the same time, all while being 100% compatible with Dolby Atmos. So, you can leave Dolby on and turn on the Gone Mad EQ and tweak it more and Dolby Atmos stays on. It also populated most of the album art. Artist art is just a list, but I guess I'd rather have it all one way instead of missing an artist picture.
Double Twist Cloud Player is what I've been using for the past 6 months and still like it, I guess I'm just a little bored of the UI - But it is also compatible with Dolby Atmos in the same way.
I like the Sony music app (found it in the Apps & Games section here on XDA), but it only uses the system EQ (Dolby Atmos), which is fine for a quick and easy music app.....But I'd like to be able to use Dolby Atmos along with an apps built in EQ to fine tune my audio player without the need to adjust Dolby each time I need to fine tune my EQ, because Dolby is not the easiest to do a fine tune adjustment to.... You have to start all over when you touch it.
How did you install the Sony music player? Package installer says the app isn't compatible. Are you running stock?

I'm stock rooted 7.1.1.
Here's the one I used: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...sony-xperia-music-9-3-5-0-0-port-apk-t3555386
The problem with most of the players around is that they don't play every format. I use VLC (nightly version). It just plays everything.

That'd the issue. I used the apk from APKMirror. Thanks
I've been using the Gone Mad Music Player for the past week now and I think this may have filled the void I was missing with a music app! Looks GREAT, sounds GREAT, very customizable, easy to use and all my album art fills in.
I have purchased gone mad power amp and neutron. After setting them up I like the sound you can get out of neutron the most. Ui is rough learning curve is rough but the sound is sweet.
The new very stable poweramp beta is amazing
Yep. I found an awesome solution. There's a stable beta in production of poweramp. I know... Great UI.... Mediocre sound, right? Not anymore. It's absurdly good. Whole new build focused on audiophile sound quality. Its literally the best sounding player I've used on android and I have some good earphones.
To get it to work with dolby atmos you need to change a setting. Under Audio/output / select high res output (experimental). Works beautifully on the axon. Poweramps eq is much better than dolby's 4 band and you can use it with dolby.
Under advanced tweaks / enable musicfx.
There is also an experimental feature to add more volume notches in the audio volume control in the advanced tweaks section.
With the right pair of headphones this player sounds ridiculously good! Make sure your axon is set to headset hi-fi in the sound settings.
Just Google search poweramp beta it might be available on the bottom of the poweramp Google play page as well.
Audio nirvana!
Cheers!
