I want to make a tablet or lapdock for my note. I have attached a sketch of my.ideas. It seems simple enough. I would make it out of wood probably and cover it in carbon fiber film.

I would like that also and have always wanted to make one. My guess would be to take apart a Netbook and somehow make the keyboard / pad Bluetooth and connect the screen through the mhl adapter.
If I'm not terribly busy this weekend I might start on it.
It would probably be good to just use the shell from a netbook. The lcd wouldn't be hdmi. And the mouse and keyboard wouldn't be Bluetooth. I bought a cheap small Bluetooth keyboard from ebay that i can use for it. I had a netbook shell but threw it out.

Yup, netbook shell, then a small HDMI monitor, then speakers and battery source.
Obviously it wouldn't be the prettiest thing but should be simple enough. Maybe put a nfc tag in there that automatically starts up Ubuntu?

OP's is an HDMI out cradle. Your ebay one is one for a dock on the table and spare battery. Either way both are great =D
The link in OP says the dock allows sync'ing *and* HDMI-out. How'd they do that? I thought that if the MHL was connected we couldn't get USB....

The sentence says charge your phone and watch a movie/ video at the same time. The other sentence says you can sync with it. I don't believe they're saying you can sync an watch a movie at the same time...

Anyone buy one of these? They have ones where you can dock the phone with a case.
Wow, awesome accessory. Thanks for posting this

I'm pretty interested in this. Has anyone got theirs yet? I am guessing it does not come with a MHL cable. I'd love to know if it allows playing videos while still charging the phone (or at least not losing any juice).
Sorry to change the subject, but what app is this?

From the different pictures of the dock on the website, there is a picture of it having a red inside border, and another without it.
Is it removable, to make it able to fit a phone with a case, or?
I'm asking because i'm looking for a dock to fit my EVO 3D along with the case-mate tough case.
And also, with this dock, would i be able to plug it into my computer and use the mini-usb cable in the dock to transfer files from my computer to my phone?
I see some different kinds of docks around here, and i'm a bit confused which ones can do what.
- Moon
I don't own the cradle but I think I've seen pictures of the dock where you can remove the adapter. The adapter is used if you don't have a case. Keep in mind that not all cases will work with the dock. You may want to email Kidigi and see if your case will fit.
Based off Kidigi website it looks to be removable. See image with red ring. Top center has a tab. Image without a red ring has no tab and the base becomes wider.
http://www.kidigi.com/product_lv2.php?pid=1316
I think if you have a TPU case it'll work but anything thicker might be an issue. And it looks to be a full HDMI connector in the back of the dock. So that's good too. I was afraid it was mini HDMI.
Does it supports 1080p resolution?

Thats probably up to the phone not the cradle since the cradle is just the medium. Just as if you were using an MHL cable. With my experience with MHL and the evo3d, the output on your TV will not be as good as the original source.
Does anyone know if the otterbox for the NC will fit on an NT? As far as I can tell the NT and NC have the same dimensions but I am unsure about the screen size. I bought the NT for my 2yr old because I could not find a leappad explorer and need some protection for it lol.
Thanks
I have one on mine and it fits nicely. The mic is covered up, but a little creativity can get around that if need be.
Great thanks. I am guessing the mic is that little hole in the top right (and no not the one for the earphones, lol)? I can think what i will use that for anyway.
thanks.
Otterbox is now selling the commuter case modified specifically for the NT, including the mic hole. Received mine yesterday, and it is FANTASTIC on the tablet.

On the otterbox site, under the B&N cases section. Its still listed as for the Nook Color, but the item number now has a "B" suffix (I'm assuming they've added the new inventory item but have not yet added an NT section for the website). As you can see in the photo, it now has the mic hole molded in.
m.otterbox.com/Nook-Color-Commuter-...r=20&start=2&cgid=barnes-and-noble-nook-cases
The Nook color and Nook tablet are almost the exact same size, except for like a millimeter here or there. From my testing if it's an NC case, it's also an NT case.
Picked up an Otterbox from their website, can confirm it now has the spot for the microphone opened up.
Screen protector is decent as well. I feel like this thing is ready for the battlefield now.

Even Barnes & Noble advertises Nook Color cases and accessories as also being for the Nook Tablet. The body of the devices is identical except for the microphone.
Can confirm, Otterbox Nook Color BNN4-NOOKC-20-E4OTR_B fits nicely on the Nook Tablet.
The screen protector seemed to always have a few 'spots' on it no matter how it was applied. Will probably pick up something from Monoprice for that.

I know this seems odd, but does anyone here have an old Samsung Infuse car dock that they could test and see if the Optimus G will work in? According to the dimensions, the Optimus G is in between the Infuse and the Galaxy S III. The GS3 fits into the Infuse car dock, so I bet the Optimus G will fit. If so that would be awesome since the Infuse car dock is dirt cheap.
Also, I noticed the Optimus G floor model at AT&T came pre-loaded with the Car Home app. So maybe they are working on an OEM car dock anyways.
Thanks
Shawn
I'd like to know as well; it actually might work with a case based upon the thickness specs.

Cool, thanks!
My optimus came in today and I was able to modify the car dock to make the optimus g fit. It took a good amount of dremilling to make it fit and isn't the prettiest job, but it works and the usb lines up and charges the phone.

As you can see I did a hack-job on this.... I think I need some better/different dremel attachments.
But, this shows that it is possible to get the Samsung Infuse car dock for next to nothing and you can make it work.
By the way, the extra hole in the dock was for the speaker on a SGS3.
Thanks for posting this.
Where did you get the dock for cheap?
Does the aux out function from the dock work with the optimus?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
It looks like you got it to fit without a case. Do you think there is enough material in the dock to take more out to get it to fit with something like the BodyGlove case?
Update:
Found a Infuse case at an AT&T store. Paid 5 bucks for it. The phone will fit the case if you take a pair of pliers and bend the corners back a bit. I find it works best to bend the corners close to the charging base more than the corners on the other side.
Also, there is no audio out from the mount. You have to plug the aux cable into the phone to get it to work.

I don't think this will work with any case. There really is not a whole lot of wiggle room, and the micro-usb part of the dock that slides into the phone has to align perfectly.

Anyone using this for their 7.7? I'm assuming that the keyboard will work fine, wondering about the tab's fit in the slot (portrait or landscape), and also if the tab fits in the case snugly or floats around.
Thanks.

It is way to big for the 7.7.
The keyboard is designed to be a case and keyboard.
It may hold the 7.7 in the slot but it will not fit as a case.

Thanks. I realized later that the 10.1 Tab actually fits inside, I didn't make that connection earlier. I might get this one, but will continue to look. The major bummer of this device is that because it didn't sell well at all, the accessory pool is so limited.
A Keyboard/Case combo is fine for a larger tablet, but for 7" I found that something like that would make the keyboard way too small/cramped to make it worth using. When I need to use a hardware keyboard, I either plug the old wired keyboard I have that was for the Samsung Q1U UMPC or the HP wireless one I bought that connects via USB dongle (need OTG adapter for it).
I like both of these because they have built-in pointing devices and you don't have to reach up from the keyboard to touch the screen or carry an extra mouse to move the cursor. If you look at the pic below, you'll see two round buttons on the upper left and right sides of the keyboard and that's for the optical mouse and left click (press down on the optical mouse sensor to get a right-click).
I bought this thing for $35 last year, but now just noticed the prices have shot through the roof at $90! Here's the cheapest one I could find: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-WIRELESS-MINI-KEYBOARD-LK752AA-ABL-BLACK-/271138360926?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item3f211b0e5e
