Hi,
My question is:
Im using a custom rom with darktremor, If I do a data wipe and factory reset to instal a new rom will I loose all my apps? Will I need to flash darktremor again? And when I flash it, my apps will appear, since they are on a partition?
Cm9.0 is about to come and I want to know that...
Thanks
wiping will erase all your non-system apps including those on you sd extension. you will never be able to have your app from sd ext unless you back it up before wipe.
By back it up you mean use titanium backup ? It wont delete the partition, right ?

Something strange is happening to me. I always have installed 2.2 roms on my X10 mini pro with the same precedure: formating cache, wipe status and fotmating Dalvik cache and never had a problem; but now, with Gingerbread based roms, even doing the same, always appear my old installed apps and the roms don't work properly. I can't avoid this and I've installed roms even from the original stock rom and I can't solve it, i also tried to format the SD Card, and same...
Strange? Any solutions?
Thanks in advance!!
Weird.. never experienced that issue before. I've noticed gingerbread gives you a list of apps when you set up your google account. You can tick boxes and it will install the apps without having to bother with market - however, the 'modern' version of market doesn't like it and is sllllooooooowww.
If the phone/sd card is wiped I don't know how it keeps them. I can only think you could try to move the apps to sd and then format it, then reinstall the rom.

I've tried to move the apps to the SDcard, and still the same. Maybe if I don't tick the Google option about Security Copy it won't happen?
Even if I'm not logged in Google, when I've just installed the rom and the android symbol appears (Touch the android to continue), appears my previous installed app IMO+ and Advance task killer; and when I get the apps list, several of them still there, but withot data, only the apps.
Agree: New market sucks...
Thanks for the help bro!
Here it is what I do always I stall a new rom:
1º.- Recovery mode (Clockwork recovery)
2º.- Wipe data/factory reset.
3º.- Wipe Cache partition.
4º.- Wipe Dalvik Cache.
5º.- Install the rom from the SD card..
6º.- Wipe Data/Factory reset.
7º.- Wipe Cache partition.
8º.- Wipe Dalvik Cache.
And... tachaaaaaaaaaaaaan!! The previous installed apps still there, but no their DATA...
I experienced your same issue. Maybe CWR wipe does not wipe porperly.
I solved this way: extracted SD from mini and formated from PC.
Thanks, i'll try wiping with Xrecovery and if it doesn't work i'll format the sd in PC.
Thanks a lot!

Still using Xrec? Most ROM's now use CWM, D4rKn3sSyS recently released a dual recovery (xrec and cwm, depending on which button you press), it somewhere on page 1 at the time of writing. (sorry, im too lazy to go copy its link =P)

Yes, I know and I always use CWM, but when I wipe the apps don't dissappear, so I tried Xrecovery and a different version of CWM, but still the same.
My SD Card has a EXT partition for Link2SD from 2.1 Stock rom; maybe...?!
My SD had EXT partition too. When I formatted it from PC I deleted that partition. New custom ROMs don't need any more to have a different partition to install applications on SD.

Could well be that. Probably worth repartitioning the sd card on the pc.

Yes, I know, but I kept it just in case I got back to Stock Roms.
Thanks!! I'll try, but I'm sure that's the problem.
Hi All,
I did a factory reset today and flashed the stock 4.1.1 Polish ROM via Odin. This process seems to have wiped my files (including photos etc) from my S3 (internal memory, not SD card). I've flashed plenty of ROMS before and this has never happened.
Anyone know if it's possible to get them back? I guess I've installed new apps etc now so a lot of the data would have been overwritten. Frustrating!
Thanks for any tips.

You answered your own question with your first sentence : I did a factory reset...
Unfortunately its not possible to get back the data

Unless you backed up on PC or sd card...
Factory reset in S3 will always wipe internal memory as it shares internal memory for applications.
If you want to restore try some data recovery software that supports SD card.

That would be the only way. There is a very small window to recover data wiped from flash memory and on a phone it would be even more difficult. Maybe a Clockwork backup?
Internal SDcard is mounted on the system partition via Fuse..so if you format the /system partition..sdcard is formatted as well..
Pointers for future..
Use CWM for flashing ROMS..(I hate Odin )
Backup your internal SDcard on your PC regularly
Perform a Nandroid Backup on your ExtSDcard before flashing any ROM.
If you ever need to factory reset..use the wipe data/factory reset option in CWM and not in Stock Recovery
For a clean install, if you want to wipe system partition..use wipe /system option under mount and format in CWM..it just wipes the system files and your SDcard data will be safe..
You will not face such issues if you in the future if you follow these pointers.

Thanks for that. Lesson learnt I guess..
Hello
I recently rooted and flashed LiquidSmooth onto my SG3 I747M and i would like to get rid of all the junk on my internal harddrive. I was wondering what the procedure would be to wipe my internal harddrive (So i do not have any random folders or old app files) on TWRP without losing my custom rom and root. Would i have to save the backup (just incase), custom rom and root on my sd card and just install it right after I wipe my harddrive?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated
Thank you!
Wipe cache and go to /system/app and /data/app and delete unwanted apps. That should be enough.

boot into twrp, go to the wipe menu, and wipe everysingle thing. Then reflash your rom. That will wipe everything, and reinstall liquid smooth.
Doing this wont brick your phone or make you lose root.

Thank you! This is exactly what i was looking for. What would i be wiping though? Obviously Cache, Dalvik and Factory Reset but do i have to wipe System, Internal storage and format data? (What does format data do)?

yeah wipe everything including system, and internal storage. format data formats the data partition of the phone, which is also necessary.
The only thing you dont have to wipe is your external sd card (if you even have one). Press thanks if i helped.
Hey,
I wanted to flash JB eXperience™ v2 on my Sola with the locked bootloader. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38682504&postcount=173) But I want also to still have my datas and apps etc. So I think I'l have to make a backup and here we go to my questions:
Is the Sony BackUp App enough for that or will this be deleted?
Which methods are the best to backup?, I Can't use TitaniumBackup because I swapped the internal SD Card.
Is the CWM Backup and Restore thing enought or will it be also deleted? Do I have to install it again?
Thank you :good:

The CWM backup is more than enough it backup all ur ROMs Settings,Apks all
I m not earning money by helping you so if u think I gave my time so pls press thanx button
The CWM backup is a Nandroid backup which makes an image of your phone when you backup it.
It's the best backup.
By the way, you should know that only restore /data/ partition after flashing the ROM.
And wipe Dalvik Cache after restoring because the /data/ partition has /data/dalvilcache, so it might interfere with your new ROM (since that dalvik cache is of a previous date when you backed up and the ROM is just flashed).
The /data/ partition will restore everything, your homescreen settings and widgets too, Don't worry, That's how I did it and it's fine for me
Hi.
My phone last time get lags and slower. I dont want to try fix it. I want to refresh my phone, delete everything and save only my ROMs ( now downloaded MIUI - want to try and SmartDroid )
I flashed many times and once did hard reset. After hard reset i had option inslall only via ODIN, not from internal memory.
Ho can i delete everything on my phone without roms for fresh install fresh rom from inernal memory? ( i dont have sd card )
Do not delete your efs partition. You will not be able to connect to any network if you do. When you flash a rom you must follow the instructions. Often the instructions include factory reset or clear data, cache and dalvick cache.and system. My advice is dont just go deleting files if you dont know what they are. Flash your roms with clockworkmod but make a nandroid backup before incase you need to go back to your previous rom.

Flashing a Rom Doesnt require Deleting all files from your internal memory.
As you said you want to refresh your phone..... What excatly Does Refresh Mean ???
Deleting All Files From Internal Memory is not a solution To Lags.
Use CWM and do a factory Reset, Cache Wipe & Dalvik Cache Wipe Then Install A new Rom. This Is nothing But Refeshing ur Phone
Factory Reset Wont Wipe Ur Data ....So Roms Stored in The Internal Storage Wont Get Deleted.
There is a Tool Called Zoots Wipe Scripts which are useful to Clean Up Your Phone Give It A Try

If you mean doing a full factory reset, it will not do any modification to the ROM as it is read only memory. It will still be there as it is after the reset as long as you do NOT format the /system partition. Your internal storage (apps, app data, settings..etc) however will be wiped. So make sure you back up any necessary files prior to resetting.
Shouldn't flashing a pit file and then the rom after it help?
