HELP!Droid X2 acting crazy - Motorola Droid X2

Hey, so I don't know what's going on with my droid x2. I went to do a nanoid so I can flash the new eclipse rom since I was on CM7. Anyways after I do the backup and restart the phone, it seems like it has a mind of its own, pressing buttons, typing things all by itself.
I don't know, it kind of feels like i'm being hacked or my phone is being taken over. So I go to sbf back to 2.3.4 stock and after all that, it's still going nuts.
Has anyone had this problem before? How can I fix this issue.

Mine did the same thing a few months back after a nandroid. I tried everything including several SBFs. Had to return it for a new one.

Damn, I wonder what happened, were you also on CM7?
I just formatted the internal card and it seems to have fixed this.

No, this was pre CM7. I was switching between Eclipse and some other ROM I can't remember and nandroided back to Eclipse... everything went haywire after that. The phone was essentially doing what it wanted on it's on. I tried everything. Wiped my card, formatted it, SBF'd... nothing I did fixed it.

You DID wipe all data as well (factory reset, cache and dalvik cache)? Even after you SBF, you should always wipe data/factory reset, etc. I do it before I SBF, but you can go into the factory recovery and do a data wipe there.
I just came from CM7 back to Eclipse and never had that issue.

Ive had this happen to me a few times. It happened right after I flashed cm7 and miui. I just left the phone alone for a bit, pulled it battery, rebooted and it was fine.

I could be (humility ha ha) humidity. But I had exactly the same symptoms following a restore. I trashed that BU and did an earlier one I was ok.

I had the same thing happen a while back. I was running cm7 and for some reason or another (don't remember why), wanted to restore a nandroid for Liberty. Did the restore and everything went nuts once I was booted into Liberty. I know exactly what you mean. I didn't even have to touch the screen to make things happen. I'd try to open something but my fingers just getting close to the screen would open whatever they got close to. Anyway, I tried rebooting several times and it made no difference. In the end, I flashed the Liberty nandroid again and things were good after that. Strange stuff.

my old blackberry did that. super annoying, sometimes couldn't even send a text.

Ugh, STILL can't restore this nandroid backup? Why do I have so many problems?

I just don't get it. I literally follow every instruction to a T and still get hosed every time. The Droid is so much easier to hack than these phones. It's unnerving.
Here's a 'quick' recap of what I've done so far.
My girlfriend has a vibrant, I installed one of sombionix's ROMs on it and she loved it. I think the latest one I installed was 1.7 I convinced her to try out a froyo ROM and she didn't like it, so I went into recovery and attempted to restore a nandroid backup I had made of the 2.1 ROM. Little did I know that apparently you have to install a 2.1 kernel on the Vibrant first if moving from a 2.2 ROM to a 2.1 ROM (Nandroid on the droid restores the kernel too, so I wasn't aware of this). So recovery got stuck at 'restoring data'.
I spent a week trying to get the damn phone into download mode, FINALLY got it there and restored back to stock JI6 (I think that's what it's called anyway). At this point I was on a stock 2.1 kernel and thought that restoring the original nandroid backup would work this time. Yet AGAIN the restore got stuck at 'restoring data'. Can someone please tell me what the hell I'm doing wrong? After waiting 45 minutes at 'restoring data' I rebooted the phone again. The odd thing is, the bionix lady started talking and saying she was initializing bionix. I know this normally takes 10 minutes or so, so I am waiting, but I have a hard time believing the phone will work without being fully restored. Is it possible I didn't wait long enough? (45 minutes on 'restoring data')
Any other suggestions for what I've done wrong? Will Vibrant hacking always be this frustrating? If so, I'm probably going to get her back to stock and leave her that way. The only problem is I *NEED* to get this nandroid backup to work to get some important text messages and other things she had saved. Please help.
So I just odin'd back to stock, and this time before attempting to restore the nandroid backup I went into CWM myself to delete data and cache before restoring. The phone hangs at 'formatting data'. It's as if anytime CWM tries to do anything with the data partition the phone freezes. Any suggestions?
Alright, I FINALLY got the restore process to finish. I then rebooted the phone and now I'm stuck at the Vibrant logo. What on earth am I doing wrong? I just don't understand this. It's like every single time I conquer one obstacle, there's another one waiting for me. What do I need to do now? The bionix lady says 'initiating bionix, hardware acceleration sequence enabled', etc. as if it's going to load up but it does nothing. What now?
ARGH. So after getting the restore process to work and getting stuck on the vibrant screen, I again odin'd back to stock JI6. Instead of Odin flashing me back to stock JI6, somehow my phone came on and is exactly the same as when I made the original nandroid backup I've been trying so hard to restore to, except that there is no root, it's the wrong kernel, and things aren't working right (apps do nothing when clicked, text messages won't open, etc). WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?! UGH.
I absolutely loathe this phone. Its performance is amazing, but this thing is a hacker's nightmare. I feel bad for those of you that own this piece of ****. I just spent the past hour redownloading a bionix 2.1 ROM, manually restoring all of her apps from titanium backup (free version, so had to do it one by one). I FINALLY got the phone to a point that was very similar to the nandroid backup I've been trying so hard to get back to and the damn thing rebooted, and now launcherpro is force closing repeatedly and not allowing me to do anything else at all. This phone is absolute crap as far as hacking goes. And I know, I know, I'm sure plenty of you will respond with wise ass remarks like 'if you knew what you were doing it wouldn't be', or 'I've never had a problem', but just the fact that this phone is only a few months old and its support forum is 5x more active than the most active Droid support forums shows how much harder this thing is to hack than my Droid. I am so frustrated with this thing I'm about to throw it out the damn window. You literally cannot do anything without encountering a new problem.
I guess I'll start the whole process over again. What a waste of good hardware.
It just never ends with this thing. Now after odin'ing back to stock the phone goes to a black screen and just sits there unresponsive. I ****ing hate my life. I really do. Will someone please help me? Please tell me what I did wrong in each of the 6 to 7 different problems I've had in this thread now?
Well it's all over now. After the most recent debacle I found a thread stating that if stuck on a black screen, flash the 'froyo that doesn't brick' through odin, then downgrade to stock JI6. I did that, and the phone boots now, but it wiped the SD card so it's all over now. All my nandroid backups, all files, everything is gone. Somehow the only thing it didn't wipe is an angry birds APK I bluetoothed to her phone the night it came out, since it wasn't showing up in her market yet. This phone may dominate my Droid in performance, but I have never had so many issues with a device in my entire life, not even when I first began hacking my Droid. I am going to leave her on stock and move on with my life. So many hours wasted on this piece of ****, my head is spinning. I do appreciate all the help on this forum but it's all been in vain. Thanks anyway everyone.
You keep posting to yourself. The reason, you are the issue. Some people forget to go to a2.1 kernel, but this thread is crazy. I've been flashing this phone since it came out with no issues at all. Don't bash the phone because YOU are having a problem.
I think he'd have been well advised to steer his girl to an HTC, not samsnot. Sorry you had such a ***** of a time man.

You say its a hackers nightmare, it is one of the few phones that is almost impossible to brick, do not consider yourself a hacker for using odin, you could not even figure out how to do that right and messed up, that is what happend you are the reason it wouldn't work the phone is great you just suck.

Touch screen problems

I just tried to flash my phone with the preroot GB flash and it installed and when I rebooted my phone my touch screen will not work. so I tried to flash it back with the sbf and now im at the activation screen but the touch screen wont work. Any advice of what I can do?
try booting into stock system recovery and doing a data format and then try booting.
Someone On Rootzwiki Is Also Having This Problem Can't Get The Droid To Register Touch.
i believe most if not all of us occasionally lose touch responsivness until the screen is turned off and back on which only takes 2 seconds. But this problem is different of course...possibly related...

Ive been dealing with this same issue for atleast 5 hours now and im tired of sbf'ing............idk what to do.......
I booted into stock recovery and did a data reset and its still doesn't work. If I did a SBF will verizon be able to tell it was rooted? I don't want charged for a new phone I might just soak this one in some water.

Is you phone charging? I had the same problem, but when I unplugged from charger all worked well (until I plugged it back in). I unplugged, went into recovery, factory reset, then did SBF and presto changeo, My phone responded to my touch
Also...
I have sent many phones back to Verizon, still rooted, and have NEVER been charged. When I call I do not tell them it was rooted. With SBF, as long as you cleared data/Factory reset first, there will be no indication it was rooted ever.
my phone is charging I unplugged it and im going to do a factory reset with out it plugged in and see what happens

Potential Fix For Random Reboots

Ok, so I just got a replacement phone a couple of days ago after my last one got smashed (don't ask =() but I've noticed that this one kept randomly rebooting. I thought it might have had to do with the fact that I just did a nandroid restore from the other phone plus sd card without wiping anything. I tried wiping things, nothing. I did a RUU restore, still crashed.
I was going to try S-ON until I ran a thread on the same issue happening on the EVO 4G and someone solved it by flashing a different radio on it. The one that came with my replacement is the 0.97.10.0530 version, I restored it to 0.97.00.0518 (the one I had on my original 3D). Since then I haven't noticed any more random reboots (I found that I could actually reproduce the error by turning wifi on and off).
Is this an actual fix or did my phone magically fix itself? I'm asking because if it it's just temporary and irrelevant to the radio flash, I want to exchange it within the 7 days the insurance company gives me.
I hope you did not restore your Wimax keys from the other device!!
If you did, bye- bye 4g...you erased your unique keys to your new phone.
I haven't looked into the issue one bit as mine has never rebooted, but with other phones 99% of the time its kernel related
I take that back, it worked for the longest time then out of nowhere, it started doing the random reboots again. After that I tried to restore it completely to stock with s-on and reroot it. Worked for a while as well and it started crapping out again. Getting a replacement shipped overnight.
And I didn't restore wimax from old phone =p
I'm also having the random reboot issue. I'm still within my 30 days but I don't believe its a hardware problem. Seems to me that it only occurs when connected to WiFi. Can others confirm this is the case for them also?

the random reboots has to do with the cache not the hardware. When you have too much memory in the cache, the OS freaks out and reboots. I had the same issue a week into having my phone, got it replaced, and the new one did the same thing.
My fix was to clear the cache using the app2sd app from the market, turn off the phone, remove the battery and leave it out for 5 minutes, put the battery back in, and turn it on. I haven't had a random reboot since.

See that's whats weird. I would just do that, have it turn on (and not interact with it) and then after a bit I'd turn the screen on, it would just crash and reboot.
Evo2dn, I find I can reproduce it if I toggle wi-fi or any of the quick settings.
Good. Many good phones lost 4g that way.

mine did this a few times as well when i first got it.
it was pretty random, but mine would also do it if i left the phone in my pocket for an extended amount of time it seemed, or for some reason it seemed related to that. i was wrong, however.
i replaced the SD card, never happened again.
you have to remember that your phone is a computer.... and computers will reboot to check a bad disk.... that was the issue with mine.
not saying this is YOUR particular issue, but your problems are consistent with what mine was doing before i figured out what was wrong with it.
one way i knew for a fact it was my SD taking a **** on me was when i would try to move applications from the internal mem to the SD, i would get this error "failed to move application"... i would try again, and it would go. this was also a randomly occurring event, and was not related to some particular app...
before i replaced the SD card i moved all my apps from the card to the internal mem of the phone...
when i replaced it, booted up, and attempted to move the applications back to the SD card.... EVERY one of them moved without a single error.
try replacing your sd card.
Mine would reboot randomly, and have the terrible bsod. I thought I was going to break the back because of how many I had to take it off.
Luckily, after flashing gb-sense I haven't had a single problem. Now I am on Synergy 468, and it hasn't happened on it either. I'm guessing it was software related.
I tried changing my SD card, wasn't it, I have two 6gb ones and my 32 gig one I use, formatted it just in case as well, nothing, still crashes.
Mine does it on every rom I tried it on, inducing the default Sense ROM. I agree that issues like these are usually software based but I have tried everything I can possibly imagine plus everything else I read from other people and it still crashes. It is probably hardware.
I too have tried different SD cards with same result. I was also getting the BSOD prior to taking all the OTA updates. After taking the updates, I'm no longer getting the BSOD but the reboot still remains.
So I got my replacement phone and restored it exactly how my original replacement was and have had zero problems.
So I think it's safe to say that although not all the time, this can be a hardware issue. Only the problem with this one is a stuck white pixel on the bottom left. But I'll live

im going on my 3rd replacement , has anyone who has cliamed to have fixed there problem really fixed it? have your fixes really ixed your reboot issue.?.
Put me in the group too...
On 2.3.3 I never got a random reboot. But when I overclocked at ALL it would eventually BlackSoD. But now that I'm on 2.3.4 it seeks that has been replaced with random rebooting. I've used Synergy pretty exclusively buy have switched to try and find a Rom that doesn't do this!. I'm currently on Warm TwoPointThree. Did a full wipe and install and in the middle of restoring user apps with titanium backup it rebooted. Been on the Rom for 9hrs (mostly asleep) and its rebooted 3 times already.
Yea, my as well. I have been running SteelH's rom. I'm sure it's not related, it happened witha previous mod as well. It does seem to happen more often on wifi, but I've noticed it with it off as well. I have had both issues with my phone restarting... but more often than not the issue has been that it would freeze all together and I would have to pull the battery.
Strange thing is, there are times where it happens 3 times in a day... then I can go 3 days and not have it happen once.
I've been using cache cleaner and having it clear my cache on it's own twice a day. Been doing this for 2 days so far and haven't had a reset. I will let you all know if that does any good in a few days.

A few things I suggest to you guys (while searching for a fix on my defective phone, these seem to work for some people).
- Reflash kernel or even try a different one or return to stock.
- Factory reset and test it for a bit, THEN put stuff back on it
- Swap out SD cards and see if the phone is more stable, if so try to reformat card and try to use it again, if it persists, it could be a defective SD card.
- RUU recovery flash, turn S-ON then S-OFF after that and re-root.

[Q] Touchscreen Issue

I'm having a problem with my touchscreen that started happening yesterday after I flashed a new ROM. I flashed Android Revolution HD 1.1.1, and on the lockscreen after the first boot is when it first started acting up. This youtube video shows exactly what my phone is doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIrmLOTiUZk
I've nand back to other roms that I've used in the past, and still the same issue. Superwiped and flashed different roms, and it would solve the problem for several hours, but the issue comes back. When the problem happens, a restart will solve the issue for maybe 15 minutes. It seems as if it's a hardware issue, but I don't get why rebooting/wiping and reflashing would solve the issue for a period of time. If anyone has any advice or the same issue with a fix, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
*Idk if it matters, but I'm hboot 1.4, zagg invisishield screen protector on.
Also, the touchscreen issue only happens at the bottom center of the screen - where the lock ring is located.
Update: I nand backed to stock rom, no issues for about 24 hours, started happening again. Any thoughts anyone??
Might be a hardware issue. If it keeps occurring I'd suggest taking it in to be looked at. Or you could try reflashing your recovery and doing a full data wipe and flash a stock rooted rom and see if that helps. Hope it does. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try reflashing my recovery tonight. It seems to be hardware related, but the temporary fix (data wipe and flash Rom) is what confuses me. I just hope I don't have to send it in and get a refurb with hboot 1.5.
Also, when I do super wipe, should it automatically boot into recovery? It just hangs on the white HTC screen, and I have to.pull the battery to get into recovery. And after I install a Rom, why does it keep my some of my same settings, like the wallpaper and ring volume, and not go to the defaults? I am he if the super wipe is actually doing its thing or not.
Well if your doing a super wipe and it still keeps some of your old settings of a prior rom then I'd suggest trying a different wipe method or redownloading the the super wipe zip, you might have gotton a bad download. As far as if it's supposed to boot right into recovery that I don't know because I don't use any wipe method but the recovery. It hs always worked for me. Try reflashing your recovery and wiping with just the recovery options. Wipe data "complete factory" ,cache and davlik-cache. Then try flashing a stock rooted rom. Or if that doesn't work try the official ruu.

Well it keeps your wallpaper because Google syncs it with your Google account. That's normal. But as for everything else, it sounds like a hardware issue.
I'm having the same problem on my HTC Flyer and flashing a new ROM or restoring an old backup won't fix it anymore.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I flashed twrp 1.1.1 over 1.0.3 and did a data wipe, cache and dalvik. Flashed a rom and so far so good. I'll see if I can go more than 24 hrs without an issue. If it's a hardware issue, I don't understand why flashing a new rom temporarily fixes the issue, and since the issue started right after I flashed a new rom. I'll continue to update on here and hopefully the reflashing of recovery helps - thanks laie.
Didn't know wallpaper was synced with google account - thanks gumby

I'm not sure what else to do. I suppose I'm stuck with contacting HTC about a repair. I've done a little bit of research and some people having similar problems have said that it could be a problem with the digitizer. But most explanations were very vague so I'm still not sure what I'm going to do.

Phone was fine all last night and this morning. Early afternoon it started acting up a little bit. Nothing like it used to, but I notice when I set it down or shake the phone a little, it will trigger the issue. So it's more than likely hardware related. Does anyone know Sprint's policy on fixing a phone that is rooted? I am jw if I should revert back to s-on before I go to a Sprint store to have them look at it. I don't know if they check that or not. Usually the first thing they always do is make sure everything is up to date too. Any insight is appreciated, thanks.
I'm in the same boat. Touch screen freaking out, rebooting fixes it for a short time, then it does it again. I'm going to take it in to sprint today and first ask them if they care if it is rooted.

Please update us after you talk to Sprint. I am curious to what they say about you being rooted and what the problem may be. My phone has been running fine for awhile now. After I reflashed recovery, data wipe, flashed rom, it acted up for a short while about 12 hours later. It's been almost 24 hours since it last acted up and has been fine so far.
Rob, just wondering if you talked to Sprint yet?
Also, does anyone know if I should go back to 100% stock and S-on before bringing my phone into Sprint? They always seem to update everything, and if there is an update, they usually tell you that's the reason why your phone isn't working the way it should.
UPDATE:
I went back to 100% stock and S-ON following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194053 Then I went into my Sprint store, told them about the issue, and the first thing they did was asked if I had reset the phone and they checked to see if there's any updates available. The phone started to act up again while they were looking it, luckily, because they have to replicate the issue before they can fix the problem. They said it was probably the screen and they were going to replace it. They had me come back an hour and half later, told me they tried replacing the screen and that wasn't it. They didn't know what was wrong, but concluded it was a bad phone. They replaced my phone with one that someone returned within their 30 days. It's not a refurb, but not a brand new one either. I had to pay $35 for the service charge for fixing my phone. I hope this helps anyone who's having the same issue.
Of course my replacement phone has hboot 1.5.
I have not been to sprint yet. I swapped batteries and it had not acted up since. Strange. I had already pulled the stock battery a bunch of times and it would be fine for a half hour or so, then flip out.
Maybe my battery was bad.

Good luck! Did you revert back to stock and s-on? Or are you going to tell them you're rooted?
I think I'm going to just put a stock ROM on it and ask them first before I hand over the phone.

Anyone ever get stuck at white HTC screen?

so this guy came into my store who had a rezound, never once had a problem with it ever...then the battery died fully overnight because he forgot to charge it..
so when he woke up, it was dead obviously. he then plugged it in, and the orange light came on for 5 seconds...then shuts off. and nothing happens. this even happened when he brought it in for me to try. so i'm like, wtf, probably a bad battery maybe?
so i put in a good one we've got...same thing. so i ask if he's rooted or anything, he says no...but i did a search, and found some posts that when people had bad flashes of roms, it would stick at the white screen, and they had to restore a backup in CWM for it to work.
so i tried to see if maybe he was rooted...went into bootloader, hit recovery, and the phone just died. just shut off. so i was like, thats weird...so then i tried to do a factory reset....same thing, i hit factory reset, the white HTC screen came rgiht up, then the phone just died...and this was with a fully charged battery, too.
eventually we had to just call up and get him sent a refurb, but still, has anyone seen this problem? nothing i could do could get it to boot, and that's such a ****ty feeling especially if this guy said that he NEVER had a problem with any HTC phone, especially this rezound, until that battery died and it would'nt turn on again.
I've had that problem after a bad flash, but it still let me get into hboot and recovery without problems, so I doubt it was that. Don't have a clue what it could be though... at least you got him taken care of with a refurb. Maybe the inability to boot to recovery could be not having amon ra or cwm installed (never tried without one) and if he wiped /data or /system I don't know if factory reset would know what to reset to (again, never tried).
Edit: Also, with me, the phone never died. White HTC screen would stay up until I pulled the battery and it would still recognize the charger.
exactly! it's a problem after a bad flash. i wonder if this dude was lying and tried to flash something, his battery died, and it bricked it
I am currently experiencing the exact same problem; I was able to replicate everything you describe, including what happened when you tried to go into recovery or factory reset mode. I have NOT tried to root or do anything else untoward with the phone ... if anyone has any idea what I can do other than get a new phone and lose all my data, I would really appreciate it!
edit - there is one difference: my battery never died. I took my phone out of my pocket at 5:40 to look at it, and it was fine. I looked at it again at around 5:50 and I had the white htc screen. At this point I pulled the battery and started googling.
second edit - could the forced update have something to do with it??
nope, he brought his in before the update.
have you gotten anything to work? when we called customer service, they just replaced his phone for him..i hope it works out for you, man. maybe try to get into fastboot and wipe the phone, or something? i know i was able to get into the bootloader..maybe you can push a factory reset from the comp

If you want to at least get the data off of it you can try using testdisk.
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
I used it for my external sd card that wouldn't read in the phone or computer anymore and had all my nands and other backups on it. It seems like it won't work on Android but it will, but since I formatted it in the phone it didn't seem to have a volume name.
After you select the drive and it comes up with the partition table list, select [None].
Then select [Analyse]
I think that's when it will list all your directories.
You might be able to hook up your phone and get stuff off the internal card if you leave it at the white htc screen, not sure. But I have used testdisk successfully on a drive and the sd card that all systems said was unreadable and needed to be formatted. Anyway, it's worth a shot to see if you can get your stuff off it even if you have to return it.

so this guy came into my store who had a rezound, never once had a problem with it ever...then the battery died fully overnight because he forgot to charge it..

Yeah I had a lot of white screen time when I had the Evo! A co-worker of mine had this happen on his Evo. It was from overheating. Now I realize this is the Rezound we're talking about but brilliant phones do think alike.

happened to me when the kernel didn't flash but the rom did. Had to boot into fastboot and flash a kernel through a command prompt on my PC.
Just finished dealing with this after a bad flash. I couldn't boot, couldn't flash a new rom because of the Mainver error and couldn't get into recovery. Finally fixed it by deleting the PH98IMG.zip file. That let me get into recovery. Then had to flash back from ICS to Gingerbread. The I could follow the instructions to fix the Maiver error.
I had heard reports that people had data loss issues from the battery dying all the way in the rezound? Something tells me running the RUU on the phone would have fixed it.
