[Q] Kernel compatibility st17a vs st17i - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I am about to purchase an xperia active.
Before i make any foolish mistakes I am trying to establish this key fact:
If my intention is to unlock bootloader + flash spartan kernel and rom OR simply keep the stock rom but use a custom kernel for extra speed + battery life:
Will I face any potential difficulties by owning the ST17A handset as opposed to the more common ST17i?
In Australia and on my network it is a huge advantage to have the 850MHz 3G band available but not necessarily 100% required.
Knowledgeable folks please let me know.

Self bump?
Really need to know here if anybody else does - $100 difference.

was there any resolve on this, I am thinking about buying an active as well, and would like to use 3g on t-mobile.
any help is appreciated, thanks!

All works fine.
I have used a huge number of ACTIVE roms on my ST17a without issue.
I've even flashed different basebands etc without a problem but the stock one works fine, I still have access to 850 band.
At this point in time I highly recommend exMIUI with this homescreen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375703
expeacer and sarajr and all involved have done some amazing work. Great stability, battery and speed for daily use. Great stuff.

[Q] i9100G + Weak Signal

Is it normal that the SGS2 i9100G Model has a very weak signal reception, not only with WLAN but also with normal mobile phone connection (Talking etc.) ? On my previous Motorola Defy I didn't had these problems. Now everywhere the signal is weaker than before on the other phone.
Is there a good ROM & Kernel (too many to know which is best and which not) that could currently help fix that and make it a bit better again ?
Thanks in advance.

try flashing diff modems ,one might help...
Unfortunately I am not so much the "flashing" kinda guy, only what I need to. I wouldn't know where to find these files or which to use for the G Version. I suppose I need the international versions for that, since I am from Germany, right ?

NO, T-MO KID, VKL1 or Telus does not work on i717...

I don't know why everyone is claiming that these 3 radio packages enable 3G on the i717. I've tried all 3 and twice each from different sources. I CWM the ATT radio back on it and it's returned to 2G.
I would've bought the N7000 and not taken the risk on an international sim not liking all the hackdoolery going on in my phone. Now I have that concern PLUS I'm not getting the 3G that was the deciding factor in the N7000/i717 decision.
Any thoughts? Perhaps I am missing a setting or something? All I get with the 3 non ATT radios is a little x in the greyed out signal meter /|
If you followed the directions correctly you should be getting 4G on the 1700 band. It does work because I am currently using it. Maybe your area has bad signal?
hmmm
It probably does work. The signal is 2G 5 bars, this is elevated in Manhattan, there's always good signals from all carriers. The meter reads /x| though. I tried the only available settings after installing each of the radios, GSM or GSM/LTE and perhaps one other.
I lose the IMEI with the non ATT radios. No signal. Nothing. As soon as I flash ATT it goes to 5 bars of wonderfully slow 2G...
I've finally got settings, accounts and apps installed so I might try flashing a radio again but I'm exhausted of much else.
I really don't know what could be wrong. Perhaps its the wicked humidity and the lingering high toxicity thick gaseous farts making the air heavy and my mind less clear. It really screws up my zen.

What ROM are you using with the modems? I am on OnlyOne B4 with KID ICS modem from tspx23. I'm getting 3g speeds. It makes a difference what ROM you are on because of the UCLD or UCLE based ROM. There are a lot of different modems for ICS but make sure you got the right one for the right ROM. You should at the very least get above EDGE speeds.

The radios were from xda and another site. its on stock radio now. If you could refer me to the radio I need, I'll give it a try. I'm unsure about doing it before the weekend as this caused 1 day of downtime midweek so.... I need to get busy! I'll give it a whirl this weekend unless I feel brave this evening.
The leaked sll radio or the blaze 4g found in this thread should work...I'm in NY and they work fine, just not 100% stable

You are using an UCLE3 ROM but to my knowledge, all the modems that are out are for UCLE2. I know it's troublesome, but I would suggest trying a new ROM based off of UCLE2 or even gingerbread to see if you can get a nice full speed 3g on Tmobile. That way at least you know the hardware and radio is good. I like AOKP, but for now I'm using OnlyOne B4 (B5 should be out tonight with some more Galaxy S3 goodies) See my signature.
This is Jeet92's version for ICS (works with UCLE2)

That works much better than the stock radio.
I feel very stupid for paying $924 for that iPhone 4S 64GB factory unlocked that I had since December. It was cool getting it direct from Foxconn though.
This makes everything ok. Thank you.

There is no UCLE3 as far as I know
.....
It is UCLE3.
Whatever this variant it is, it doesn't have Japanese language support. The SIP support is also gone, I saw another poster mention that too. Its stripped of all the good stuff.
This is certainly not the CM I had on the Evo 4G.... The options on that CM were extensive to say the least. It gave one the best attempt at absolute control of every aspect of the device.
By comparison, the CM9 I have on this Note is only a slight deviation from the stock OS. I'm guessing that all the efforts at custom ROMs are getting rather diverse over the years, or perhaps this one is just not as good as the mainstream ones? I noticed how many models of Android there are as opposed to when it was just the Evo and a couple others, it's definitely had an effect...
Perhaps the best way to describe it is quality verses quantity. The collective "milk" intellect of all the dev's is no longer in the milk jug, it is now spread throughout several hundred coffee cups, very, very diluted.
Please sir, may I have some more? For the Galaxy Note i717???!!!

Better service for my unlocked i-717

I posted this in the Tmo section with no replies
My phone is SUBSANTIALLY slower than my wifes Sensation, some of which I understand is because I am using a phone not designed for T-Mo's network, but what is the optimal setup for this phone to run on T-Mo's network
thanks
You need to flash one of the tmobile modems found in the development section of this forum. My note gets great speeds with the ICS Blaze modem
Sent from BigDaddyNote
It is very difficult to advise you on an optimal setup, beyond the obvious information ...(modem, APN)
Simply because every device is different, and your location, service quality, and several other factors play into your service issues.
The device may never run "fast " or "great " because it simply isn't designed to be used like you are using it.
Experimental change is really the only way to quantify any improvement for "you "...
Modem and APN changes will benefit you the most ....followed by kernel and rom mods....(speed is a huge variable between roms and kernels )
It's just a test and tune methodology, and what works for you...
I wish you luck in your testing ....g

[Q] Need some help with this phone...

Okay so a bit of a back story. I bought this phone for my dad for his birthday one year ago. And so far he's loving it, but now he's run into some problems.
The main issue is, for some reason the wifi signal strength on his phone has gotten worse. It used to catch the wifi signal at a place in my house till maybe a week ago, but now it doesn't. Because of this he used almost 1 GB above his data pack this month (unknowingly, of course).
Since my dad is using it, he's running everything pure stock. No root, no recovery, no custom ROM, no nothing. Now I checked this forum and saw that you guys have ported a stable KitKat build to this phone (congrats, BTW!). What I want to know is, does this come with a new radio too? And will this new radio help in receiving slightly better wifi strength? He gets the signal up to 5 meters away from his room, so all I need is to increase the range by just 5 meters.
So can you guys recommend some stuff? Either a new ROM/radio, maybe an app (but I don't think these work, right?)... But please recommend only fully stable builds. My dad is not tech savvy so he won't understand what to do when there's a bug.
Thanks!
Hello.
I am not a very seasoned developer but I have flashed many Roms on my Canvas HD. So firstly you mentioned that your phone hasn't been rooted. There are plenty of tutorials available online to root your phone. To flash Roms, mods root is a must.
And yes, Roms do improve WiFi connection, phone speed, and in some cases even the battery life. Its all a matter of priorities, whether you want the newest version of android or longer battery usage. Since you need it for your dad, I recommend flashing any jelly bean ROM. It will be stable and perform well as a daily driver. Your WiFi speed and range will also improve because of the ROM tweaks. Hope that helps!

Alot of issues with my s21

I use an ATT unlocked variant of s21 5G
1: It overheats excessively, you cant even game on it
2: When gaming, the touch sensitivity is very low despite turning on increased sensitivity in settings
Anyone know why or give a possible solution, my guess is because its still stuck on One Ui 3 and Android 11

I can't say why with any certainty, but can say I would never want a carrier rom on my phone, I always switch to an 'open' version as it rids you of the carrier bloat and and restrictions etc they put in their roms.
Granted, that doesn't work for everyone as they are 'tied' to a specific carrier. So, if that's the case, I'd look for info about whatever that specific rom / carrier problems exist.
But, if you can go with any carrier you want, go with one like Mint Mobile, which allows volte, vowifi, and 'open' rom phones, like the S21. It's easy enough to find how to use Odin to flash an 'open' rom also.
One additional thing you would accomplish by doing the above; you'll discover if the issues you're experiencing are the fault of the current rom, or they are hardware related. Not sure how else you would test that hypothesis other than doing the exact above?
good luck
