This is more than awsome. So happy to see that the team is still working on CM9, and bringing us the updates..! A BIG thanks to the CM team!
erm... whats the point of this thread? I mean thanks for the heads up but at the very least you could actually have given a link to the rootzwiki page

ok. well in either case, since the thread involves no development I guess it belongs in the general section. not a big deal, just thought i'd mention it.
Yowza. Just Sunday I was thinking, "Man, it's been awhile since they released any updates from 0.6". Now Alpha 1 hits yesterday, and I only flash it around 9PM or so. Come to work this morning and we've already got Alpha 2.
Awesome!
But now that we've got Netflix, what's left there to fix, other than the camera? Should we be hitting a full-blown "Beta" soon?
hipstan fronds
They still have camera (for pix and video), mic and fix for FC's for quite a few apps.
The camera kinda worries me since it never fully worked on CM7
We still need flash support

Considering the TP only has a low-quality, front-facing camera to begin with, I'm not sure what we're losing out other than the ability to make video calls with Skype. I never really used that anyway, so it's not a huge deal for me--you could always boot to webOS for that purpose, I suppose.
Do you guys get a lot of random force closes with alpha 1/2? Market, settings and even Google search sometimes force close for me. I don't have any point of reference since I got my tp a few days ago and alpha 1 was the first build I flashed.
Installed A2 last night... no issues works great! but after I was done playing around last night my batt was around 23% so I put it on the Touchstone and went to bed, woke up... battery was at 60% and the back of the touchpad was HOT HOT HOT!! could barely touch the back!...I booted into WebOS and put it back on to the touchstone and it charged just fine with no heating issues... anyone else have that problem with android?? and what would cause that to happen?? :S
Fabulous
I am very grateful for your work, dudes.
This has transformed my touchpad from a nice tablet to a very useful and quick work tablet. Big improvement. Many thanks.
Installed A2 as well... and no FC's so far everything is running smooth!
For nightly updates you can always follow cm_tenderloin on twitter for new releases every night.
Can anyone tell me how much sdcard space they have left with after having just installed CM9 alpha2?

Which ROM should meet these requirements:
1. Will get a GPS fix quickly every time.
2. Good battery life.
3. Fast 4G LTE.
4. Market works fully.
5. Relatively bug free.
6. Still supported by developer.
7. Has decent install instructions - I have not installed a ROM on the Thunderbolt yet, and compared to my OGD, it seems more complex (e.g., flash a radio separately).
8. As little Sense as possible. (None would be ideal.)
9. USB tethering is rock solid reliable.
10. Gingerbread 2.3.4 (so Google Talk video works)
I initially wanted an AOSP ROM, but it seems like Sense-based ROM are working better. Is this true?
I just rooted and I want to install a custom ROM right now. Waiting impatiently for responses. hehe

It says, "An work in progress to bring working 4G to Gingerbread AOSP. Only available for Froyo MR1 radio."
That doesn't sound good to me... however, I admit that I don't know the details about the radios. I just assumed MR2 or MR2.5 would be an improvement. I'm not very happy with the stock Froyo radio (or GPS or battery life or anything else really).
Th3ory roms have been my favorite since his introduction, everything you're looking for. Try out the tester coming tonight, or wait a day for the release. Rediculous amount of dev support.

Thank you. I've been reading a lot of different threads and I was getting the impression that Th3ory roms are really good and the support is great.
What about INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01 (SenseLESS)?
Regarding "the tester coming tonight" are you talking about this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186218
I was concerned about the market problems discussed in that thread. I know there are two different resolutions for market problems, but I got the feeling that this tester ROM is too bleeding edge for my first Thunderbolt ROM.
In reference to my list of important features in the OP, what advantages does the tester ROM have over INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01?
I'll go ahead and put in my 2 cents and suggest CM7.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049542
Be sure that you flash the MR2 OTA radio and you'll be fine and dandy.

So if I flash the MR2 radio, I don't have to worry about the CM7 4G problems mentioned in various places such as this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057757
EDIT: ooops, the known issues listed rule this ROM out for me:
**Known Issues**
-Possible Data/Voice bugs and issues.
-gps slow to get locks
Looks like INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01 is still the favorite.
I just installed INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01.
It is sync'ing at the moment. I haven't really used it yet, except to go through the steps to add my google account, etc.

I already flashed INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01, so we'll see how that goes. If it doesn't work out for me, I am interested in either das BAMF or CM 7.1.
haha yes! sorry for the typo. i'd suggest going ahead and flashing those other 2 ROMs when you get the chance to whether you like injectedtheory or not. one might suit your preferences more than another.
I was just making fun of threads like this in another post.
I've read these threads, tried most of them people swear by, didn't like most of them... And I'm back to my daily driver as usual. Every ROM has it's quirks. It's just a matter of what you're going to tolerate. Frankly, I don't know how people stand AOSP. My girlfriend loves it and I hate even touching that phone now. I've got this sexy 3D ROM that flows like water and it's literally 4.5 times the size. I'm just saying that if I posted this exact same thread, I'd find every single answer pretty much useless. Whatever you do, don't do a nightly.

The answers were not useless at all. The conversation helped me. But you notice that I didn't just ask a generic question. In the OP listed specific features that were important to me.
BTW, I only like ASOP ROMS as a rule, but I learned from this forum that Sense-based ROMs give less trouble on the Thunderbolt. If that wasn't true I would have stuck totally to ASOP.

Thanks for that feedback. It was one of the first ROMs I looked at and I initially rejected it because Th3ory had moved on the the tester ROM and I do value active dev support.
But the potential market issues with tester10 concerned me more. So I came back to Inject. It's nice to hear your confirmation that it will probably satisfy most of my bullet points.

Just installed the MIUI Beta and I am LOVING this ROM! My absolute favorite so far. It's smooth, my battery seems to be holding good. No FC's yet. The look and feel is great! Good job devs!
Few questions though. How do I delete individual notifications? No (X) next to then, and I tried to swipe them to delete, but nothing. Also, on the lock screen, if I drag over the camera, it doesnt open the camera, just goes to the home screen.
Other than that it's amazing! Thanks guys!

I just came from CM7. Didn't like it much. Too glitchy and just didn't like the overall look and feel. I had Eclipse before and that was my favorite until now. Just too many issues with CM7
- dock shortcuts would seem time change or dissapear on their own. Like I would boot up and there would be a star where the browser used to be. Or where the app drawer shortcut was. One time I pressed the browser button and ALL of my dock icons dissappeared.
- Widgets sometimes would be invisible. I could long press them where they should have been and it would let me delete them or move them. But they wouldn't show up.
- I had it in my dock and it showed it was plugged in and charging. Had like 95% battery when I plugged in. Woke up to a dead phone. 0% battery. Even if it wasn't charging, it would have made it through the night on 95%
And just some other weird stuff. Just didn't like it much. Sorry. I even tried wiping and reflashing. Still basically the same.
MIUI is running stable so far. And I love the look and feel.

SMH. You should read up more on MIUI, and TRY IT, before you put out your opinions/"assumptions." MIUI was created by Xiaomi Tech, a Chinese firm (dunno wtf you got arabs..), so it's not just some random dev's collaborating, but an actual company putting out the ROM for usage in handsets in Asia that got picked up by the rest of the Android community. And as far as open source, they announced back in February of this year that they were going to begin opensourcing their applications and ROM, which you can see over at their GitHub (google it..).

Thanks thelowend. Yes I have tried Eclipse, and as I said it was my favorite. But MIUI is really cool. I think I like it because its so different. And everything seems so integrated. Like the notifications, I love how It gives a place for a reply right in the notification! That rocks! It just looks and feels more refined.
I am finding a few more bugs. Like Youtube not working, or any streaming video for that matter. Even some of my saved vids on the SD card dont want to play. And I can't record video either. All freeze after about 2 seconds of play/recording.
So far that is the biggest turn-off for me. I use youtube allll the time. Anyone know if they are working on this? I even tried the mobile site, and neither that or the app work.
Eclipse had its glitches too. But both are very good ROMs.
Oh one other glitch that really bugged me from CM7 is gapps kept FC'ing after a while and I would need to un-install and re-install it every so often.

I am used to modding android devices. I might be looking to get a touchpad for my mother depending on how stable an android rom is for it.
Is there a stable CM7?
What are the features that DO-NOT work? (that way I can assume everything else works?)
Front camera, skype support?
Again I would be looking for the most stable and bug free ROM that I would not have to constantly flash updates for her. Thanks!!
I have never used CM7 since I just got my Touchpad a few weeks ago when CM9 was out. But CM9 is stable. Just doesnt have camera or mic working. I dont know if these issues are the same with CM7. But if your mom has no need for all the apps android has to offer, she can just use webOS which is more stable than both CM7 and CM9.

Dont bother at all with CM7. CM9 and other ICS roms are far more stable. Pretty much everything works except for the camera and microphone. Battery life is nowhere near as good as in webOS, expect about 2 days of standby or about 5 hours of constant usage. Some people have wifi issues, but they're more often than not fixed by setting the router to avoid higher channels (keep it on 6 or below). The vibrate motor also for some reason stops working after the device goes into sleep, and the only way to get it going again is to reboot but I dont think that's a big issue for anyone.
As for a ROM, I'd recommend CM9 not because its the best but because its the one I'm most familiar with, and I can say its fairly stable. Sometimes it will randomly reboot, but never while actively using it. I'm using a nightly, but since you're giving this to a family member you might be better off with the better tested Alpha 2.
Stable Rom: Classicnerd
For me the most stable rom has been classicnerd's latest version. I have been using it and donot get any force closes or reboots. You can find the latest version at classicnerd.net/Betas/
as far as CM9 and the camera/mic issues, I think she would want to use skype to video chat with family members, so that would be a problem.
Does classicnerd have that issue?

webos does not have a lot of the banking and other apps she may find useful. Although is it easy to dual boot webOS and android? I'm thinking maybe its useful to boot to webOS just for skype and Android for everything else. That is, if its easy to switch between them.

Dual booting is the only way to do it. As far as I know, you cant replace webOS. When you follow the instructions to install android, you also install what is called a moboot that lets you select which operating system to boot into when starting the device. Switching between the two is easy and is just a matter of restarting your device.

Personally, I prefer AOKP.

Just depends on how adept she is at technology. If she can decently run a computer and text, she should be mostly okay. The one thing I would highly recommend is to make sure she can fix the wifi authentication problem. Basically, every now and then, wifi will have an authentication problem. When this happens, she needs to go to wifi settings, forget the router, toggle wifi off/on, and sign back into the router. This problem usually occurs for me when I leave wifi on and then reboot or get a random reboot. Takes maybe a minute to fix. As far as ROM, I like oat's light and tasty, although they're all pretty good, as they have the same base.
Sorry, I have to get this out of my system, then I'll be back to polite nice Canadian. In short, try one and see.
<rant mode on>
One of these days, people will actually glance through the forums as opposed to posting a new thread. This thread has been duplicated many other times before now.
In the end, again, just grab one, take it for a spin, and try it. Start with the more official ones, and work out from there until you find something you like. If nothing suits your fancy, take the source and make your own. It's pretty simple. So please stop spamming the boards with "Which ROM should I use" threads. </rant mode off>

I have tried CN and others but, I think that Oat's light n' tasty is the best so far. All my games run great and so does netflix and YouTube. But, a Rom is only good if it runs the apps you like. You I'll have to find the one that works best for you. I still think webOS is still good. Just my $0.02
I figured one more opinion can't hurt.
I've been using AOKP on my touchpad ever since I found out that they build roms for hp touchpads. It's great, so is CM9 but for some reason my touchpad refuses to behave with CM9, I'm talking random reboots, wifi issues, SOD (screen of death), and so on. ClassicNerd is also great too but I fell in love with the ROM control options available with AOKP.
Either way, one of the earlier posts mentioned that battery life is weak with ICS which is NOT the case for me, I always have wifi on, with my CPU overclocked to the maximum available frequency and get about 7 days, yes 7 DAYS, of standby and at least a full day of constant use.
As for skype, it is not fully functional with all android devices, just the few that the skype people officially support, I've tried it on my phone and it gave me a lot of issues, so even if the mic and cam were working I doubt skype would work well enough on the TP.
Obviously as others have mentioned earlier ICS is much better on the TP than GB, plus you have the great option of dual booting so you could always use WebOS which is pretty decent itself.
All in all, the TP was a great $100 investment and has a lot of support from some great devs out there. My almost 3 years old nephew has one and he loves it too lol
if you install one of the current nightlys, unofficial or official, she should be running just fine until you come over and install the one of the newer ones for her
the nightlys seem to be running great, even without the supreme mods.
can anyone tell me if the supreme mods are still worth installing?

I found your answer on another thread:

I read somewhere that the tweaks were in one way or another no longer relevant or in some form had been incorporated into Android starting with Gingerbread... I think the post is actually in this thread. I myself was using it for a while but after reading that I stopped flashing it and haven't missed it

Sorry if I am being totally stupid .
I understand that oats is "upset" and has withdrawn and discontinued Light and Tasty but all link's for AOKP also appear to have disappeared. Are they both from the same person/source .
In the oats thread there was an announcement that the thread is discontinued and links deleted .
In AOKP I didn't see any announcement or links deleted. Just that the links now go nowhere.
Lets play nice , a simple answer if someone has it , not a referral to Google.
Thanks
Looks like AOKP for TouchPad is dead. Found this picture http://i.imgur.com/FQfun.png @ RootzWiki

Thanks for answering, what a horrible coincidence ! So no more AKOP either.
I can understand if a developer no longer has the time or inclination to continue with a build.
But not why existing links are canceled /deleted or why people are not allowed to share one's they already have .
I think it's AOKP not AKOP.

Tell me about it. Haven't updated my TP in 6 months and when I finally got around to it yesterday, I missed OaT's seemingly fantastic ROM's by mere hours.
I'm in the same boat as you guys. I finally had time to upgrade my touchpad to CM9 yesterday, and really wanted to try out Oats since everyone says it's super fast and smooth and near-perfect, but I missed it by a few minutes

Actually, this is one of the reasons why I hold onto all ROM's that I download, even the old ones: in case the links get taken down, I still have them for myself or anything else who might want them.

I do the same thing with the roms I use. It's saved me a few times experimenting with my touchpad.
Drdoombot: any chance you can send me a pm? Thanks.
Changing roms
If I change from nightly to OaT's lat or AOKP can I flash over or should I do a totally fresh install With acme after uninstalling.?

Full wipe and flash.
Seriously? That's almost 2 months old. In case you havent seen, about 2 weeks ago, protekk tweeted "breaking out the touch pad, no promises!". Seriously, do some research. Aokp supports the nexus devices right now. They rebuilt from scratch. What do you expect? A perfect build day 1? No. They are still working.

Willing able Newbie
I would be interested in participating. I have a recently fulfilled contract Rezound from Verizon. I've gather data on XDA for a month so as to change the phone over to Straight Talk. So I am now ready to Clean my Rezound, put a new ROM with ICS. I'm not kidding I just was about to go htc.dev.com and start, thought I'd look for new post one more time. If I can be of help and not get in the way... I'm willing.
I'll test your new build too.
Sorry it's taken so long to post my results. I flashed this Friday night with CWM Touch and Banks Standard from mid-March. First hiccup was when it first booted it asked me to grant access to the Performance Control app. I mistakenly granted "this time only" and my phone rebooted. Second issue came when connecting to WiFi. It connected then loaded some kind of blank picture, or something. I hit back, reconnected and was back in business. I asked that Google restore my apps. About halfway through, the Play Store sort of "froze" and stopped downloading. I rebooted the phone and the restore resumed. The only big issue for me is the camera. The preview screen is black until you take a picture (which works, you just can't see what you're taking a picture of) then the preview becomes your previous picture. Camcorder is a no-go. You get the same black screen as the camera and it acts like it's recording, but nothing saves and the Camera app crashes when you try to close it.
Other than these issues, this is a great build! I've never run Vanir, so I'm not sure what makes this build unique. Battery life was about the same as it was when I was running CM11. I have since gone back to Evervolv, but if this had a working camera/camcorder, I would definitely run it!
Thanks for letting me test and keep up the great work! :good:

Oooh..any hints as to sense/nonsense, and version of android?
In case you are still accepting testers I will be glad to join in the testing. My Rezound isn't my primary phone and it wouldn't be a big deal if it got soft bricked or something by some far chance because it is not my primary phone.
EDIT: Also, is this ROM you made GSM compatible? If it is definitely not, then unfortunately I can't test it with calling and texting and stuff like that because I use Tmobile. If you aren't sure if the ROM would work with GSM or not, then that can be one of the tests I can perform and report back the results.
Testing closed
Just an FYI, I'm no longer looking for testers.
This side project is finally released, and you can find it here.
