[Q] Disable Geotagging with Camera360? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Using Cyanogen 6 (heavily modified 2.2 Froyo), HTC Desire Z/T-Mobile G2. I was wondering if there's a way to disable geotagging in Camera360. No matter what picture I take, it still sticks the GPS information into the picture. The stock Camera app actually doesn't do this.
I know within Camera360, when you're taking a picture, you click on the little gear on the upper right (if viewed landscape), go to Preferences, and uncheck Record GPS location. The thing is, for me Record GPS location is already unchecked, but if I take a picture, it STILL stores the GPS location/geotag.
Is there some sort of setting in Froyo that's overriding this or am I doing something incorrectly in Camera360?
EDIT: All right, from what I can tell, if you SPECIFICALLY go to the Preferences, make sure the Record GPS location option is unchecked, then hit the back button, it won't save the geotag FOR THAT PICTURE. But if you go straight into the Camera360 app and take a picture without messing with the settings, it'll try to save a geotag. Granted, the geotag that's saved for me contains bogus coordinates that makes stuff like Google Earth choke on them, but I still find it incredibly annoying to have to do this for EVERY picture I take.
Is there any way to make this a permanent default setting for all my pictures?

If gps is off it won't add tags. I don't have gps on and it just flashes a message on startup saying it cannot geotag pictures.
Or if you are rooted use lbe privacy guard to deny the app gps permissions.

OMG why did it take me months (years?) before I heard of this app. I've been grumbling to myself how $#@&% annoying it is that I can't control permissions of apps on MY phone!!!
Sure, some people could say "well just don't install the app then" - but I don't like that option. I want to install the app, then tell it to f#@k off when it wants to: access the Internet, read my private data, or collect un-needed information about me, thank you very much!

[Q]How to disable geotagging in 2.2?

There's no option to disable it under the camera setting. And I have to disable wireless networks & GPS together before removing its ability to geotag. But by doing so, my google maps/navigation won't work.
So is there a way to just disable geotagging or wipes the info from photos completely?
Bump. Still looking for an answer or any help with this.
Bump.
10 char
I bumped this earlier, but i think i figured it out.
go into your regular settings and go to location and security and UNCHECK both "use wireless networks" and "use GPS Satellites" I checked the photo i uploaded to picasa and i get this:
Latitude: 0.000000° N
Longitude: 0.000000° E
So i believed it worked.
I gotta run so if any one else can do this to confirm. That would be great.
Is this really the only way to disable geo-tagging? Don't those two settings also affect the maps app? So the only real solution is to remember to turn off the location services before shooting a picture and then re-enabling it before using the maps.
For anyone who thinks this is not a big deal, read the stories about Adam Savage and his geo-tagging incident.

The setting in the camera app is gone in Froyo?
Settings - Tools - GPS make sure it's unchecked
These are the settings I see in my camera app (Using Nero v3)
Camera Tab:
Outdoor Visibility
Focus Mode
Timer
Resolution
White Balance
Effects
ISO
Metering
Anti-Shake
Auto Contrast
Blink Detection
Image Quality
Adjust
Wrench tab:
Guidelines
Review
Shutter Sound
Storage
Reset
Firmware Update
That's it. There's a GPS icon on the screen, but touching it just causes the camera to focus at that spot. The menu button on the phone doesn't do anything.
I have checked and sure enough, the geotagged information is being stored in the exif information in the image.

BUMP, seriously, not being able to turn off geotagging in 2.2 is annoying.
The only way to turn it off is by turning off the GPS entirely, that is annoying!
They need to put an option in the camera settings to turn off GEO tagging.

Ya I always thought geotagging and all the location apps are really really creepy. Companies collecting personal data anonymously is not THAT bad, but things that could single out/identify me as a individual are completely a different story.
I rather thought this was a known bug even on 2.1 where geotagging would stay on even if you turned it off.
Edit: the only way I was able to get the gps to turn off was by turning off the use wireless net works under location and security.

Anyone? I know I seen it on 2.1
I just encountered this problem on a 2.2 ROM for the Captivate. I can't believe that more attention is not being paid to this security flaw. The only thing I found besides disabling location features on the phone is a program called Geo Eraser which will remove geotags from photos after they are taken: http://androgeoid.com/2010/10/remove-photo-geotagging-info-with-geo-eraser/ . This is not an ideal solution as you still have to remember to remove the geotag.
Bumping this BIG TIME now.
Just got the OFFICIAL 2.2 Froyo installed and GEO-TAGGING needs to GO!
I just rooted it so, what's next?
I agree. You should have the option... But that's why I rooted... So I can do what I want...
I am with androidandroid, what is the next step to fix this?

I'd like to get this figured out, too. I posted a question in the Captivate forum asking about using Tasker to disable/enable location services while the camera is active.

Working great on my Captivate. I used the APK version installation guidelines.
Awesome!

Now it reappeared.

[Q] wtf is with MMS on the stock Messaging app?

I cannot for the life of me understand why when sending images in the Messaging app, it opens them as a video or something, and actually has like a video progress bar. You cannot zoom or pan in the image or anything.
Please tell me there is a way to change this. Why wouldn't they have it open it up in an Image app of your choice, or have image capability built in.
Only reason I even want to use this app is because it has the 'unlock to messaging' feature from the lock screen
But this really bothers me...
Would someone have the ablilty to modify the apk to open images in an image viewer?
Or is that not possible
Don't know the technical ins and outs, but my understanding is that rather than attaching a plain image, the MMS contains slideshow of images (even if there's just being one image being sent), and the slideshow cycles through each image at a set interval when the message is viewed. It's a pain in the ass, but it's not uncommon - the HTC messaging app behaves in exactly the same way for example.
You can save any images you receive to your phone's internal memory or SD card though.
Well that's stupid. You should be able choose what you want to open it with without having to save it...
Sometimes I wonder what the hell Samsung was thinking

This is fairly common with mms as far as i know. If you want it to behave like a picture, just save it as one. Slight over reaction maybe?

Beware: Major Notes Flaw

Hi guys,
Unless you hit the back button or hit menu then save, your changes to any notes are not saved.
This is a pretty big issue in my opinion.
Use cases where you lose data:
1- Hit the home button, you can no longer get back to your note.
2- Open another app through notifications and continue using your phone. Sometimes you can hit back to get back to the app and your note is still there (you will still need to save it though), other times it is impossible to get back to.
I want to love the notes app, but this, combined with no tagging is really annoying me.

The Notes have an auto-save function... noticed this yesterday. But I couldn't tell you the increment. I thought if you opened Notes from the application drawer you could see a list of notes.
As for tagging, you're right the app natively does not tag. Evernote does allow you to tag. And I think HTC intended for notes to be associated with calendar items... which I haven't decided is a good thing or not.
I forgot about the auto save, that annoys the hell out of me too. Writing writing writing, auto save, breaks flow for 5 seconds.
But I suppose with that, at most you will lose a few minutes of writing if you leave without saving.

LOL... what's your perfect mode? A manual onscreen button to hit?
My perfect mode is...
Save whenever the page leaves the screen....
Save when the screen turns off...
Or if they really want to autosave so you don't lose stuff if there's a crash, don't use a banana modal dialog while I'm in the middle of writing.

Haha... agreed.
Also, another thing to be concerned about is using the notes offline. I created a note and added a bunch of pictures and text while not connected to WiFi. When I reconnected, I think it choked and started crashing the Notes app. When the error report came up, that crashed as well so I couldn't send the feedback. So, I figured another way to remedy the error was to un-do then re-do the sync.
That unfortunately deleted my note... never to be heard from again! I did send an email to HTC to see if it was stored locally and see if there is a way to get it back. I'll keep you updated.
I read an online review that complained that scrolling in Notes became painfully slow when there are more than two pages of writings. Is that true ? I certainly hope not ...
I wouldn't call it painfully slow, but its not smooth with several pages of notes and pictures.
I use the back button predominantly. The home button to multitask or switch between apps. I would like to see the next rev save automatically when leaving the app also.
The lack of this feature isn't as major to me. Just learn to use the "save" button at the bottom of the screen.
Just ran into an issue where the app crashed while saving a note, and now I see the saving icon on top of the note, and if I click it nothing happens except I occasionally get a toast that says saving. I tried rebooting too. Going to try moving it around on the desktop and see what happens after a sync.
----
Update, editing on my PC by moving and changing the title seem to fix it.
Update from HTC regarding using notes offline and trying to sync an bunch of pictures and notes:
I understand that you would like to know if there is a way to retrieve a note that was apparently deleted from your HTC Flyer before it was able to sync. I tried to duplicate this issue by disabling Wi-Fi, creating four new notes with pictures, then reenabling Wi-Fi and attempting to sync but I was unable to replicate the issue. Your best bet for seeing if the notes are still cached somewhere would be to download a file explorer, such as Astro, Linda or ES File Explorer and search the contents. You may want start by looking under SD Card> .data> HTC Notes or if you know the name of the file you lost, try searching by the file name using the file explorer.

Auto-Correct or Enhance Pictures

I had a stock Evo 3D for a while, waiting till HBoot 1.50 got cracked, when my phone screen cracked. Filed an insurance claim, received a new phone with HBoot 1.30, and immediately rooted and flashed the CM7 ROM.
Before I remember there was an option in the Gallery or the Camera .apk where you could "enhance" or "auto correct" a picture, similarly to the "auto correct" feature in Windows Picture Viewer. You could select a bunch of different options, like vintage, sepia, B&W and other ways to change the pic. This was after the picture had been taken, not a setting while taking the picture.
Since I'm on CM7, I can not find that option anymore. I'd like it back, but don't know how or where to get it. Can anyone help me? I'm using it specifically to auto correct pictures taken in low light and other situations. I don't really care about the other stuff that you can do, like most gallery apps in the market offer. I just want to be able to enhance the picture like auto correct.
Can anyone help me? Thanks.
I think that was part of the sense camera. Since cm7 is aosp it won't have it.

Yea, off the top of my head, two routes come to mind in order resolve this issue. Neither of them are easy or simple and personally I probably wouldn't take either, but perhaps somebody else will. Both routes require a bit of time and effort.
1) Port the feature over to the CM gallery. The CM code is all open source and they will accept code from anybody who can meet basic coding standards and has a workable patch, i.e. adding a patch for auto correct into the CM gallery. I'm sure they would accept this additional feature if it was coded properly.
2) Reverse the HTC feature and port over the apk over to CM. I see a few issues with this as most of the HTC apps use their framework, these frameworks would also have to be reversed out and/or ported over along with the application.
Hope the more technical details behind some possible routes to accomplish the goal help provide a better understanding of the process!
you could try a different camera app. zoom fx was 10 cents today, not sure if it does it, but my guess is a market camera app would have this feature.

Tried the Zoom FX, returned it. I've tried many camera apps and gallery apps. None of them have what I'm looking for. They all have settings/modes that are neat; but none of them enhance/auto correct for photos.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks guys!
I found this on the Android Market online and installed it from there since I can't find it on the app store. It has the auto enhance feature and kind of the 2d Gallery. It does have ads though.
I can't paste the link since I'm a new user. Google "Photo & Picture Gallery market.android" and you will find it.
Hope this helps you find what you are looking for - sort of
Why not try little photo? It has a ton of editing options

Better optimize camera for social media apps. Camera problematic

I'm sure some of y'all used a iPhone before.
When you use the camera app, Snapchat, Instagram, whatsapp, Facebook camera.
The quality is the same.
But if you do the same with SOME Android phone. Especially if it has dual cameras than you get mix results.
With a dual camera like the v30 you can't pick the default camera to open on a app.
(ex: whatsapp uses the wide angle and instagram uses the normal camera)
The camera quality is horrible! "ex: camera quality looks burry on instagram"
Is there a way over this?

Use the app's ability to choose from Gallery. I always do that. EVERY app like Facebook, WhatsApp lets you choose from your Gallery.
The only time I use an app to actually take a picture is for my banking app to deposit checks. (Some apps will even let you choose from ANYWHERE on your phone, like Download folder through a file explorer but Facebook does not -- it only lets you choose Gallery.
Just this morning I went into WhatsApp to verify the exact steps. You choose the "camera" symbol, then from there you can either take a picture or "swipe up for Gallery". It's written right there on the page in WhatsApp interface.
When I choose from the Gallery, I know the picture is exactly the way I want it, cropped right, etc. With the LG V30, you would then have also chosen which of the three cameras you wanted to take the picture with -- either of the two front cameras or the selfie camera.

The phone camera does have filters to make shots look better... There's a couple of threads in this forum devoted to that.
But you're right -- you're not going to have the comic filters and stuff.
