[Q] Hboot unlock fail. - HTC EVO 3D

I followed HTCs unlock instructions, everything went fine until it came to flashing the unlock code. Command Prompt didn't show any errors but my Hboot remained locked. I tried a few times with no success. Anyone have any suggestions?

Correction use the ruu i posted on the last q&a the software # that you have must be 3 or higher +
( last number ) you need to downgrade it. Thats what i did.

You have downgraded from 2.08.651.3 to which version?

I'm wondering also. After I took the 2.17.651.5 update I couldn't "downgrade" and run an earlier Ruu such as 2.08.651.3. ( I wanted to go back to previous radio). I'm HTC unlocked with S-On.

HTC Unlock tool OTA 2.17.651.5

Hey everyone, I am unable to unlock my bootloader after accepting this OTA. I just got an EVO 3D yesterday and I updated it as soon as I got it. I first checked to see if it was an HBOOT below 1.5, it wasn't so I went ahead and updated. However when i get to step 12 i believe on the htc dev site, I flash the unlock_code.bin and nothing happens just sits there. I read around and found people saying you need to take the 2.08 RUU, I tried that and when it gets to the black HTC screen I get an error 140. I was so excited to get this phone and already downloaded the rom i wanted before owning it. If someone can please help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks

Same here.
The same RUU I used to revert to the .2sw update to unlock two other evo3d's with hboot 1.5, will not work. Im unbelievably frustrated right now as Ive been sitting at this computer for over three hours. Please, if you find a way to downgrade your software, please let me know. thanks
not sure why you wanted to be on hboot 1.50. but shouldnt be a problem to unlock the bootloader, since it was just minor updates and still on hboot 1.50. id just try doing the process again.
i unlocked mine with unlock_code.bin that i used when i rooted my evo 3d for 1st time.....it worked fine.
Tried 5 times and failed..

I didn't want to be on hboot 1.5, I wanted to be below it. But when I first got my phone I checked the bootloader and was already at 1.5. If it was below that I would've been rooted right now...
to be a bit more clear it was hboot 1.5 with an OTA 2.08 when I first received the phone.

1st Check you bootloader .What it says at the top .(locked/unlocked/relocked) if it says unlocked you do not need unlock_code.bin.
Try these from step 13:

That's the guide I used to HTC Unlock. Video helped. There is a post somewhere about needing to Re-flash the stock RUU.exe or Ruu.zip (renamed to PG86IMG.zip) to get the phone past the "nothing happens" step where you're supposed to get the "unlock" option screen on the phone. I haven't seen the 651.5 released as a complete RUU, but you could probably flash the 651.3 RUU, finish the HTC unlock and then run the 651.5 update. Heck, the unlock would probably work after the update, idk for sure.
I have some links and my issue with this below.

I have some tools and files for you to use that will give you temp root and allow a downgrade to 2.08.651.2 rom, hboot will still be 1.50 though. However from there you should be able to unlock via HTCdev method. I gotta upload the files and write the code which I will post up here in a second. I hope you are ok with using adb and fastboot.

[Q] New Evo 3D HBoot 1.5 Software Version 2.08.651.2

I just purchased a new Evo 3D. I immediately tried to root it and using the HTC SuperTool but that did not work. I read that I should unlock the bootloader first. I attempted to unlock the bootloader using the steps within, "The Root of All Evo" website. I cannot link to the site right now; however, the title of the blog is, "How to ROOT your HTC EVO 3D, yes, even with the most recent updates!"
I followed the steps to the letter but I got stuck at step 14. I went to HTCDev's website and tried to unlock the bootloader but, even following the steps perfectly, I did not get the confirmation prompt on unlock the bootloader. I am a complete noob when it comes to this so please respond in kind.
I am at a complete loss and I would like any help that someone can offer.
The issue is with the HTCDEV method? Not unlocking? You're typing "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_token.bin"(I think I recall it going something like that.)

Sup man you at the part where it ask you to apply the unlock code bin they sent you in a email and when you apply it nothin unlocks on your phone. If that happens you will need to use the latest ruu exe 2.17 this will redo the stock rom then apply the lock code part and your good to go. If you live in the USA then your cdma . Lol

Update: I just downloaded RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06.00.1216_NV_NV_spcs_1.42_release_233304_signed from a link posted in another thread. Is this what I need? If so, what should I do with it?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks Reaper. I want to make sure I understand you before I go further. What exactly is a RUU? I did some quick research and it looks like it is just a software update.
According to the blog titled, "HTC EVO 3D Getting Minor OTA Update, Seems To Remove Carrier IQ" (dated January 13, 2012) the latest software version is 2.17.651.5. Is this what you mean? Should I do a software update and then try again? The problem is I already tried to do a Factory Reset through the HBoot menu numerous times. I thought by doing this, I would automatically get the latest software version. Do I have to update the software first, go back and do a factory reset, then finally go through the steps laid out within the first blog I referenced?

I've attached what you need, courtesy of MrSmith317. If you ever do need to relock you'd just need to get another unlock token from HTCdev to unlock again.
But you will most likely end up needing this for some sort of flashing at some point.
I think you only have to relock to run the ruu. You shouldn't have to with the updates since they are flashed in the stock recovery. The ruu being flashed through hboot requires relock.

That error you got, was that trying to run the RUU? Which one? 1.x or 2.x?

What version RUU did you use? 1.x or 2.x? Did you try running it while the phone was locked? It needs to be locked when you run RUU. But you also can't go back to an older mainver and some ICS ROMs are on 3.x
Also can you check what mainver your phone is on? In fastboot type:
fastboot getvar all
running 2.0.1 and wrong RUU i guess since its 1x
Yeah, you need to run 2.x RUU. Get it from link in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22045045&postcount=58
That should fix you up. Then after you run that and get the OTA, unlock, flash Amon Ra (there's a new version posted to that thread today), go to the developer menu in Amon Ra and install su and you will be stock OTA rooted.

[Q] Can't get back to stock, worried I bricked my phone!

First off, I've gone through thread after thread hoping to find an answer, but simply have not.
I rooted my phone back in July and don't remember which method I used. I need to get my phone back to stock for warranty (I have a dead strip on my screen) and before I thought, I used SU to get back to S-On, but now I can't get back to stock.
I've tried to run various RUU's, more specifically regaw's version among others, but I haven't had any success. Every time I run an RUU it says that my phone is not connected to my computer. I've also downloaded the PJ75IMG and tried that method as well, but nothing happens.

Got the correct firmware, started the process no problem. Now I've got an Error [155]: Unknown and that's as far as it'll take me. I've tried multiple times, and nothing happens. When the phone is supposed to restart it just sits there as if nothing happened to it at all. The RUU instructed me to restart the phone and do the recovery through the program. Once through, it says that I should now try to start the RUU again. and the same thing happens. Am I missing something here?

sprint evo 3d unlock_code no splash

i just bought a used evo 3d (have 2 more in the house also)
its running latest stock, unrooted rom
2.95.651.6
the problem is (like so many others) htc-dev unclock code is not unlocking the code in fastboot like it did with my other phones running same firmware
this is a common problem but not sure how to fix
all i want to really do is probable flash this firmware here "RUU_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2_Radio_1.09.00.0706__NV_NV_SPCS_1.43_release_271101_signed"
then do the OTA again so i can then try to fastboot my unclock_code again
unless someone knows exactly what i need to do in the current state of the phone....
i have done ##786# and factory reset from hboot
nothing is working.

Yeah I took that OTA update too and I'm kinda stuck. I can't seem to find anything that I can flash to make it work. Does anyone have a zip of the RUU and can you use the method where you put it on the root of the SD and rename it to flash an earlier version? Or will it just reject it after checking the version number?

Thank you for the reply. Is there any method for getting s-off without root because everything I've tried for root has failed (htcdev, wraiths temproot, srs root, etc, it's a long list). But if there's a way to skip straight to s-off that would be awesome. most of the phones i had were s-off as well. is there one? I have a linux system if it's are need for any methods.

Well the problem is that requires unlock and root so that won't work without an unlock that works for me.

Ok so I got some weird form of root that leaves me with just a black screen and the notification bar by interrupting the srs root after the reboot part. I can interact with it through adb shell so I'm going to try to see what I can do from here.

Yes that's right. I unlocked bootloader of my Virgin Ego V 4G using same method. But sprint Evo 3d with latest update and hboot 1.58 is not responding for confirmation message to unlock. Even fastboot command says successfully write 0 bytes.

Setp13 error solution by HTCDev
Hey Guys!
@spolermac @en11gma
Good news!
Just received email reply by HTCDev for BoootLoader Unlock solution for Step13 error.Hboot 1.58.0000 / 2.95.651.6 710RD.
HTC Tier 3 Escalations - Special Projects Team:
"It seems as if you are experiencing a rendering issue. If you don't mind, try this: Go ahead and go through the unlock process up until the point of receiving the 'successful' output in your CMD prompt. When you receive this, tap your volume up key and then hit your power button.
I have included a screen shot of what you will be agreeing to when you hit your power button."
I am in office. Shortly i will test this solution. in-between if anyone is testing please update result:victory:

i tried that thinking it could be the same thing
when you move the vol up key up it actually moves the selection in that menu
i never selected with the power key because it was on the wrong selection
if i would have moved the vol key up and nothing would have moved i might have tried selecting with power button
try it out and let us know as i never went all the way through
i downgraded and reflashed 2,95.651.6 and it fixed it
HtcDev solution not working
Hey! @en11gma you are right. I tried that and it actually moved to Power down option.
I just want to root and install recovery.
I tried other methods posted in evo 3d forum. but none of these work for me.
Please guide me how you achieved to unlock hboot.

you are lucky you asked me cause i can tell you how to do it exactly
first do it EXACTLY like in the "2nd video" and it will work like a charm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653777
get the highest RUU you can i think its RUU_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2_Radio_1.09.00.0706__NV_NV_SPCS_1.43_release_271101_signed,exe
and do it exactly like that video and you will be a happy camper

i just bought a used evo 3d (have 2 more in the house also)
its running latest stock, unrooted rom
2.95.651.6
the problem is (like so many others) htc-dev unclock code is not unlocking the code in fastboot like it did with my other phones running same firmware
this is a common problem but not sure how to fix
all i want to really do is probable flash this firmware here "RUU_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2_Radio_1.09.00.0706__NV_NV_SPCS_1.43_release_271101_signed"
then do the OTA again so i can then try to fastboot my unclock_code again
unless someone knows exactly what i need to do in the current state of the phone....
i have done ##786# and factory reset from hboot
nothing is working.

BUMP
took OTA now am at
hardware version: 0002
software version: 295.651.6 71ORD
model: PG86100
HBOOT 1.58.0000
eMMC-boot
May 17 2012, 15:06:44
unlocktoken from htc, says worked, but nosplash
>fastboot.exe flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)... OKAY
writing 'unlocktoken'... (bootloader) unlock token check successfully
OKAY
I read elsewhere that RUU'ing it with exact same version fixes it, and you can then fastboot flash it and you will see the splash.
I have been unable to find RUU for 295.651.6
