Hey everybody, I'm looking into doing the whole root/rom thing with my Prime. I've done this on a couple of other devices, but the terminology seems to be different on every device family. With the Prime, a lot of the instructions I see involve using ADB to place files on the Prime. What is ADB, and how does it differ from simply using the drag/drop method of USB transfer?
Thanks!

You don't even need to know anything about adb if you use the Viperboy root kit in the dev section. Just did it an hour ago. Very simple. Just read the directions thoroughly.

I have had adb setup for a while now. Rooted 6 different phones. Would it be better to uninstall it and reload adb for dummies or leave it and attempt root from there? The running background crap has just ticked me off.

I have a macbook pro too. I just use Kies and use its built in file manager. It will automatically mount your sdcard and internal.

You need to use PTP instead of MTP.

very true, i just had my new cable that came with my gs3 unopened had to open it and it worked lol =D
People should learn ADB, it will help you in the long run with other things besides file transfering
I'm waiting for kies to support Mountain Lion. meanwhile I'm using Android File Transfer.
I use android file transfer it works very well. However make sure you choose camera connection and not MTP or it won't work.

So I currently am downloading MIUI for my Fascinate, but I've tried this on Helly_Bean and on this ROM. Anytime at my command prompt I enter:
Code:
adb.exe devices
It doesn't list my device. I installed Kies, but even that won't show my Fascinate.
I also want to note that in uTorrent it shows my device as a "Galaxy Nexus S" for some reason. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

It seems to only work if I'm on a GB ROM (I've only tried with stock GB though), anyway to make it work with JB??
Have you gone to:: Settings:: Developer options (turn that on if disabled) :: enable android debugging
By default that's all turned off

Try installing nexus s drivers.

I also have had to put adb.exe and those 2 or 3 .dll files right in the c:\
With good successes

Hey guys I'm hoping someone will be able to help me. I've searched all over the Web and haven't been able to find a solution. My problem is that my wireless charging doesn't work on my phone on any rom I've tried, so I need to ruu back to stock to see of it works on there and if not get a warranty replacement. The problem I'm having us that my parents will not recognize my phone at all. It will charge when I plug it in to the pic but that is it. It doesn't even show up in Windows Explorer at all. I've tried re-installing drivers HTC sync and multiple other things. Tried my friends computer too and nothing shows up either. Is it possible that my usb port on the phone is screwed? If anyone has any ideas or help I would greatly appreciate it.

What operating system are u using? windows 8 and 8.1 are having problems with adb and fastboot
I'm using Windows 8. I've been using that for a while though with no problems. I hadn't plugged my phone in to my pc for a few months until the other day. My friends of is Windows 7 and it's the same thing. The weirdest thing is Windows doesn't even have the message pop up saying that removable media is connected or whatever. It is literally invisible to all computers.

Did you try running it from the directory that the adb executable is in?
Yeah. Tried running it as administrator still with no luck. It was easy when I did it with moonshine on Linux with my first DNA but idk what the problem is now. I'm trying it on windows so I may be missing something.

* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached

But in the dev mode did you actually check the "usb debugging" option?
Sometimes you need to turn off Dev mode and turn it back on a few times (making sure to re-check USB Debugging) and then it should work.
I don't mean to sound like you don't know what you're doing I'm just trying to cover all possible options.
so to answer your question, no. I somehow either skipped right over it or the option wasnt there when I looked. Its recognized by adb but now when I try to flash a recovery I just get "Waiting for device".

You are using the Fastboot command right and not the adb command to flash the recovery
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium HD app
I do adb devices to make sure that it is connected, which it is. then the fastboot flash recovery followed by file name.

To flash a recovery you have to boot into bootloader mode first
