Hi,
I have bought a new moto droid razr maxx(verzion) from ebay usa, then shipping it to Singapore.
I try to start it with Singtel SIM card, but always stopping at registering network screen which is after I touch the Android logo in welcome screen.
Shows"This SIM card is from an unknown source."
As I know,verzion support CDMA.
I am in Singapore,Singtel StarHub M1 all support GSM,WCDMA.
And droid razr maxx support GSM,WCDMA,CDMA.
So I think GSM and WCDMA model maybe locked by verzion. But I can't get CDMA network in my area.
Is there any solution for me to use it with WCDMA SIM card?
Thanks.
The Verizon Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX do not support GSM or WCDMA. The hardware may be there, but it is likely disabled. No-one has had any success trying to change that, I'm afraid you've bought yourself an expensive paperweight.

not exactly paperweight. u can buy a razr locally & swap the battery with Maxx. just that u end up buying a razr maxx with double the price.

That is definitely the best solution. Transplanting the regular flavour RAZR battery to the MAXX and selling it off would at lest recoup some of the lost funds.

Ok...Thank you very much.
One more solution.
Try to find a Verzion user in US.
Then send it back..

Hey people!!
Just wanted to know if I can be lucky and run this baby in India on a GSM network?
If so, how and what do I need?
Someone is coming from USA...but what about the contract with Verizon??
And performance wise which is better X1, X2 RAZR or Bionic??
Thanx!
You can't run this phone on a GSM network, it is a CDMA phone.
Contracts from foreign countries are something you need not worry about.
I suggest the Droid 2 Global for use on a GSM network. My dad has one and it's great.
I think the only one of those that is a "world phone" is the Droid RAZR. All the others are CDMA (and LTE in the case of the Bionic which does take a SIM card but only for LTE). Droid RAZR seems to be GSM compatible, and has the same specs as the Bionic, as well as an improved screen.

RAZR is a good option...but my question is how do I run it here as it will be Verzion locked?
Also, if i unlock it, will I get official updates to next Android OS?

Call up Verizon and say you'll be out of the country and need it unlocked. And unlocked wont do anything to updates, if you root it probably will though

I don't think there's fees, just one of the perks of having a world phone, and I would say either bionic or raze, x2 only has half the ram.
Or why not an attic, basically same as bionic but gsm

He's right. Go with an already GSM phone if you're going to use on GSM. Motorola Atrix is Tegra 2 like Droid X2 but with more RAM, and Atrix 2 is TI OMAP4 like D3, Bionic, and RAZR, and has an improved screen over DX2, D3, and Bionic.

Lastly, the Razr isn't even available yet, lol. You are going to have an issue with a phone that doesn't exist, at least not physically in your hands.

I lol'd. Srsly I don't think the RAZR Is even globabl capable, if you want a strong phone that's global I'd say Atrix or D3. Bionic and Razr prety much the same, 200 mhz difference which I'm sure is a result of the Bionic being underclocked. Im sure that'll be fixed soon since the source code has been released. Razr does have super amoled but it also is pentile, same w/ the Nexus Prime. Built in Battery in the Razr for me no bueno, and no SD card on the Nexus = da fuq.
They announced there will be European and possibly Asian versions, but it could be like what they did for the Droid 1, made 2 different phones that looked the same with different antenna's, Droid and Milestone. Either way, launch is what 2-3 weeks away, lol.

I don't think they have released that info yet. You might want to check with your carrier.

Carriers in India aren't that strong a player...but I will keep a check...also, the Droid X2 is cool, but CDMA...anyway to get that working outside the current network...? I mean it will be Verizon, but here it will be Reliance...so anyway to get that working here..?
I would say, tell your friend to call Verizon and ask to have it unlocked. Once he/she gets to India they will have to give the MEID/ESN numbers to Reliance. Then, will probably have to open new service with them and get a new number. Verizon uses a specific spectrum range for CDMA, thus why the phone doesn't work on Sprint's CDMA network. The phone may, or may not be compatible with Reliance CDMA, but I could be wrong.

thanx! That helped me make my decision...Droid RAZR or Bionic. Mostly it will be RAZR.
In India, CDMA isn't as strong as GSM. Anyways...thanx everyone who replied. Every answer waw helpful. Just a question, more to myself than to U guys, why would Motorola make such a cool device wig CDMA technology and not GSM?
Anyways...
Verizon outweighs all GSM competitors in the US. They know the users typically who want the most bang for their buck android device want it on Verizon before with 3G CDMA and now 4G LTE and CDMA. Our GSM providers are horrible.
My wife and I are locked in to a T-Mobile family plan but she is in love with the new razr. Is it even possible to buy one online, root it, and flash a rom that would support T-Mobile? Any help would be awesome. Thanks
I believe the Razr is for use on CDMA networks such as Verizon. It will not be useable on TMobile.

Is it only CDMA, I thought it also had 2g,3g radio in it. Checking now.
Your only option would be to buy an international GSM Razr (XT910) I reckon. Maybe take a drive to Canada?

Thank you guys.
The Motorola Press Release says it all. Won't be long until we see this in other parts of the world (or some people hopefully successfully flashing it with English Stock ROMs). I was waiting for the MAXX conversion kit and was gonna get a Razr but this seems like a better option.

Moto are missing a trick here. They could do upgrades in their service centres for a fee to upgrade a razr with a maxx battery and casing for a fixed fee and make some extra profit from us...
goddamnit i shouldve known.
now i want one to replace my RAZR with weakass battery.
My luck just ran out. I have the normal Razr

I'll just get the conversion kit at a later time
anybody found where to buy this yet? anyone found out the radios its goign to operate in?
Total ****s. I contacted them last month and they said they would not be releasing the Maxx for the UK/europe. I went ahead and bought the normal RAZR.
Is it really GSM version?
yeah does china operate same GSM radios as the rest of the world e.g. australia?
China uses both GSM and CDMA from what I can gather but LTE is in small scale trials apparently.
Someone can tell me if this Razr Maxx GSM (xt912) or Razr GSM (xt910) are True LTE (4G) compatible?
Thanks in advance

The Droid RAZR MAXX is XT916, not XT912. We don't have a model number for the Chinese release yet. Only the CDMA versions have LTE support thus far.
Given the poor track history of getting functional branded Chinese-market devices on the secondary market/the variety of wireless tech in use there, I highly doubt a GSM RAZR MAXX released in China will be of much use to many users outside of China. Not really something to celebrate just yet.

Doesn't seem to be available in white color, which is a huge letdown.
Motorola, put MAXX battery on your next flagship device as well.

Last info I got was that the XT 912 will only work on global GSM carriers. It has been locked from USA GSM carriers. I have heard some reports that some people can get it to work on AT&T with voice only no data. If my information is outdated I apologize hopefully I helped in some way.
Edit: I thought I would add that I own an XT 910 and XT 912, currently operating on Deutsche Telekom (German T-Mobile)

I was living in USA, purchased a Verizon droid razr maxx lte 912 from a friend. I did not use this in the USA, I left in the hope to use this phone in the UK.
Is this possible ?
Many thanks
No the xt912 is specifically for verizon and cdma which is in the united states. If you wanted to use it in another country or internationally, you would have to get the xt910. Hope this helped

The phone will work with any GSM sim if used "outside of the US". It will NOT work on GSM in the US.
So yes, you can use it in the UK without any issues.
if your phone has been updated to ICs then its fully capable of being used all over the world for gsm usage ( but not in the US )
just insert any gsm sim
go to network and select gsm/umts option and thats it.
the XT912 razr and razr maxx both have unlocked gsm radios for all gsm operators outside US.
