[Q] Problem installing CheckROM v6 / (bad) installation aborted. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
This is my first time trying to flash a custom rom, and I have been getting the problem:
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I just rooted my phone, using CF-Kernel KI2. Nothing else. And I just can't seem to install the CheckROM via CWM. I have followed the thread step by step a few times and still am unable to install it. So i boot into recovery mode, select my .zip file of Checkrom from my internal sd memory (it is in the root folder), and still cant do it. I have tried doing a factory reset, data reset, battery stats reset, etc. I would greatly appreciate if someone can kindly help me as i have spent hours reading up but am still unable to solve this. There are some people with the same error but I'm not sure how it got solved in the end. The thing that's puzzling me is that I have followed the exact video tutorial and thread to install CheckROM yet I still get the error.
Thanks so much in advance.

Hello,
I don't know if you already tried it but what about downloading again the zip file ... maybe your file is corrupted and md5 checksum results in an error...
Cheers,

Download the file and try again or check checksums if the creator posted them.
It could be a corrupt rom package.
Edit: Ninjad

Hey guys, I solved this already with help from someone.
Basically, the zip file wasn't corrupted. But instead of just going to wipe factory data/reset, i had to go "Mount/Unmount" then clear the data from there. After doing that, it worked! Thanks anyway!

your post helped me .... many thanks

I'm happy to read that you managed to flash CheckROM. I'm sure you'll enjoy it

Hi, I tried this but unfortunately it didn't work. Could you please be more specific about what you did?
Thanks

Sounds like time for an nvflash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
Then get clockwork back on it and restore your image (if it works). If not, you'll be back to stock and can then go install a rom.
thanks for the quick response to my post - but check out the update that i just figured out

Can't install CWM, Stuck in Recovery Mode

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the Fascinate. If anyone is up for a challenge and could read the small novel I wrote below I would greatly appreciate it.
I was able to successfully root my Fascinate last week however I got into trouble when I decided I wanted to install a custom rom. I read that the rom required Voodoo which I didn't/still don't know much about. I went to Project Voodoo and downloaded PV 5.5 and flashed it via Odin thinking that this was all I needed to do before installing the custom rom.
Now I'm stuck in Recovery Mode, I've followed several tutorials and tried to install ClockworkMod Recovery via update.zip but every time I run update.zip the install fails and I get the Green Android guy with the ! point. Recovery says Errior in /sdcard/update.zip (status 2) installation aborted.
Re-downloading the file update.zip doesn't change anything.
Also, if I try to wipe data/factory reset I get the following error:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 (No such file or directory)
E: install_application_for_customer: Can't mount HIDDENSCARD: Your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
I tried following some of the tutorials to remove VooDoo such as this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804784 as I think this is why I've gotten into trouble, but I can't install CWM and I've had no luck with ADB and accessing the areas required to replace files on my phone while in recovery mode.
I can't run the Vodoo Uninstaller as I'm stuck in Recovery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, the fiance isn't liking the current state of her phone.

I think this is what you need.
Thanks DoobiHowserMD for the quick reply. I followed the tut, everything seemed to go well in Odin but now when I turn the phone on it says this:
--Wiping data:...
Formatting FOTA: ....
FOTA wipe failed.
and then it continues to reboot and loop.

Which 2 files did you use?
Just found a solution! Used the "Full DI01 ODIN Package" found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867648

[Q] Clockwork Recovery "failed to verify whole-file signature"

I have this problem in my SGS2.
I root it then downloaded ROM Manager pressed the Flash CWN recovery, chose the SGS2 option and then it automatically download CWN 4.0.1.5, then, after doing that, every time I try to reboot into Recovery it show my the signature fail error.
I got 2.3.3.
I have exactly the same problem and i didn't find a fix until now.
I assume:
1. full factory default (if not, installing the original ROM)
2. rooting
3. install rom manager + recovery
will fix it but i'm too lazy to reinstall everything again.
Same problem here, please someone help
Please follow the direction s that are posted all over xda. A search for your issue is posted many time. I don't even have this device and after a few searches I found the answer. I,advice you to do your homework.

please help! BOOTLOOP Problem with CyanogenMod

Hey Folks,
Yesterday i tried installing CM9 Nightly on my SGS2 (no root). I followed the "Full Update Guide at the CyanogenMod-Forum but ended up with the bootloop problem even though i precisly followed the steps here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II:_Full_Update_Guide
Now my s2 wont boot and is showing the yellow triangle. I can get into Recovery Mode which shows "CWMR Touch v.5.5.0.4.".
i downloaded the latest nightly build but when i tried flashing CM9 as described i got an error message "verification failed".
any help is appreciated!
hi
try putting the phone in odin mode and install another rom
Factory reset first when you have bootloop.
no need to worry.
get the nightly again dont use the torrent. it should be 118 mb.
using cwm format system, data, preboot, cache.
now flash again. you should have the file on ur ext sdcard already.
If worst comes to worst then download a offical samsung firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 or from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928 if carrier branded phone then open odin and flash the files within download mode. If you don't know how to use odin then follow the guide within the first link
How come there will be a boot loop if everything is followed precisely?
You can try flashing the same again

Bro just remember that you must never flash a rom from within CWM or Rom Manager with our sgs2. I also did that and had same issue. Now, you can get into recovery mode and that is awesome. First things first, wipe everything, full system wipe, full wipe cache, full wipe sd card(format), next, attach your sgs2 to your pc and mount usb storage, transfer your chosen rom to sd card(I use Hydrogenics which is awesome). Next, unmount sd card, now flash hydrogenics. Now reboot system once hydrogen is finished flashing. You should never have issues like this again, especially with Hydrogenics. Also, do not forget to put gapps ics on sd card and flash it after you have flashed Hydrogenics. You can also use yellow triangle away app to remove the stupid leftover triangle from your previous rom flashing attempts, if you got LPB. Anyways bro, have fun and do not stress too much because the sgs2 is really hard to brick. Also, remember to check the md5 sum when downloading a rom, this lets you know it has not been tampered with and the entire rom is there.

Trying to Flash from a .zip file on External SD

Hi
I am running a Stock LSD 4.1.2 JB Rom on my I9100 and do not wish to Root my phone. Yes it was rooted once but I have a specific reason for not wanting to revert back to root.
On a few occasions over the past year I have wanted to flash an app via "Recovery Mode", a .zip file located on the phone's external SD card.
On trying to flash, the following is displayed in yellow: -
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I have searched and searched this and other forums and although I can find many many instances when this has ocurred with other people I have not yet seen a generic solution to this problem.
It must ocurr because of a certain situation being prevelant within my phone and the references to it on forums usually suggest they are because someone is messing with a Custom Rom and/or a Rooted Kernal etc etc.
Could someone please tell what is happening, why this is the case and what can be done to sort it please.
I would say that my phone is just over 18 months old, never has had a problem, has been flashed with "Stock Roms" quite a few times and all without wiping or restoring to the factory settings. I do not want to wipe it to sort this problem out and am hoping an easy fix is available.
Hope someone can help
ps - I am trying to install the 4.2 Camera via the patched.zip and have tried to install the "Temporary" Clockwork Recovery" app with exactly the same problem. I stress I do not want to Root.
Anyone please?

Ermm, do not think so. Please review this thread before making wild comments like this: -

I know in some way though that you probably thought you were helping.
Surely this problem has a cause and a solution?

u have to first flash the 'Temporary CWM recovery .zip' then select 'reboot to recovery' option in stock recovery to enter 'temporary cwm recovery' there u select the 'Camera zip file' to flash.
PS- after flashing 'Temporary CWM recovery.zip' do not reboot ur phone the normal way by doing so u will lose ur temporary recovery.
each time before flashing any zip file u have to flash 'temporary cwm.zip' file first.
Hi thanks but I know this.
Can we get back to my topic please? I would not have posted if I could flash the Temp CWM Recovery. zip file
I just need to know what causes the error I am getting and how I can irradicate it.

As the error indicates, it fails to verify the file's signature. You can't flash unsigned packages via stock recovery. The solution is exactly what was already mentioned to you:either root and install a custom kernel/recovery (you don't want it, that's fine), or use a temporary custom (non-stock) recovery. While I had problems with the stock recovery flashing unsigned zips (obviously), I never had an issue with flashing a temp recovery. Try redownloading and reinstalling it - it could be a corrupt file. Which recovery are you trying to use? I recommend the temp touch CWM by Phil (the dev of the PhilZ kernel; use link in his signature). Always works like a charm.

Nice one! Thank you
It must have been a duff file (temp touch CWM by Phil) as the one I just downloaded, installed without a problem. It was the very same program file but from a different source.
Just installed the 4.2 Camera too so now going to play
Thank you again
