I just rooted my phone, and noticed this problem this morning. If I hit the search key, the app drawer will force close. I haven't found anything else that causes this, and the search key works fine any other time. I have frozen a few apps using Ti backup, but only bloatware, and I've already tried defrosting it. I'm on the stock rom, android 2.3.6. I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but my googling skills have already failed me on this one
It's a known issue with the last VZW .173 update.
Uninstall the updates for Google Search, and all should be well.
TiBU can remove the market/update link.

I'll try that, thanks a ton
I'm honestly surprised that I couldn't find this answer through searching, but thanks for an honest answer Is there any way I can stop it from updating temporarily so I don't have this issue again unless they release a fix?

I'm not certain how many on here have used the new market, but i find it HORRENDOUS!
I plan on moving an old version of Vending.apk to system/app to replace it.
My concern is the market will automatically update. Can anyone comment who has tried this already? Is there any way to avoid it updating, or can the ROM developers prevent this in their custom ROMs?
I really have no clue why developers are using it.... its just SO bad. This is the first time I have been disappointed with Googles direction with Android.
how did it automatically update?? OTA???

actually the MARKET does auto-update itself. how do i know? because i received the new market without any mods to the market the night people started to report the update. plus theres a 1st party apk called MARKET UPDATER.
100% sure this will work. go to SETTINGS/APPLICATIONS/make sure the filter is set to ALL and scroll down to MARKET... click it and hit UNINSTALL UPDATES. this method worked when i received the the SIMILAR tab update, but im not sure if itll completely remove the NEW revamped market.
HIT THANKS BUTTON PLZ =) no need to install an old vending.apk

Well, the Market DOES AUTO-Update, even if you Uninstall Updates.... that's the problem.
I suppose I will move an old Market and replace the current one in system/app... but I imagine that if I freeze (titanium backup) the Market Updater app that may lead to problems? I don't think that app can be removed and not cause FC's... I would love to know that is incorrect.
If that is the case, I imagine it would be easy to avoid the new market. Anyone else hate this new updated market and tried this yet?

i just tried the "uninstall updates" method and i will let you know how long it takes for my phone to update back to the new market
it does auto update and installs in data/app not system/app
Check the cache for the update apks. I all ready have two in my cache.
I thought I may get used to the UI.... I am not. Still FUGLY and not intuitive.
Has anyone tried
1. Uninstalling the update with data & wifi off
2. Using a shell and changing the permissions of the Market.apk to read only?
Anyone had success with this?
Uninstalling the update does nothing for me now.

Download the axura rom. Extract go to system apps then get the vending app and put it on ur current rom for some reason... Axura s market doesn't work like others it never updates.
I used it for 2 weeks and it never updated. Try that but save your current vending in case out doesn't work.
As for me my new market its working fine a few complaints but its alright for now...

can you just post the market.apk here? downloading an entire ROM just for one app sounds really unappetizing haha
outside of the above suggestion,I have personally tried every method you could possibly think of to permanently revert back to an old market, but this btch is quite relentless. I may create a Nandroid backup and uninstall the Market Updater....just to see what happens.
^ yeah, I have given up hope and now just hope Google can make another "improvement" to the market. It needs to change... I was LOVING the now older version with "Related" added, but the new UI and 15 minute policy just sucks (for me anyway).
Is it possible to reinstall Google Talk? I've tried moving it back to /system/app/ using Root Explorer but it doesn't seem to be working? :S

Are you saying you uninstalled it & then just moved a copy of the .apk to the system/app folder with root explorer?
If so, moving it to the folder after uninstall does not reinstall it. It must actually be reinstalled.
Haven't tried Talk specifically, but I've done it with VTL Launcher using SystemApp Remover. It has the capability of backing up system apps & uninstalling them. I then installed the newer version & had it convert it to a system app.

Now time to try and install the new Android Market ! Can SystemApp Remover also help me with this?

If you have the new market app you should just be able to install but eventually Market should auto update for you. We have 4 gTab's in our house & mine took 2+ weeks from the time it was released to update, same for my wife's, but my son's & grand daughters have not updated yet. They don't use theirs as much as we do, so it may have soemthing to do with that.
BEWARE though, some VeGAN Ginger Edition users have reported the new Market force closing on them with no resolution yet. Seems to be sporatic...some it works for some it doesn't.

I got a dialog that popped up that I've never seen once i installed the market that asked me about all the permissions well i turned most of them off and now i cant figure out where to turn them back on again because it is blocking the market..
maybe try uninstalling the marektplace and reinstalling. Should prompt for settings on a fresh install. Probably the quickest way i can think of.
You cant uninstall the market lol. Maybe reinstalling the rom but i want to know what the app is and where i can locate it for future use

Even though I think I disabled the Mocalite app , when I go to Manage apps > Running apps , it;s still there and force stop is required.
We need a root. I like the phone as is , I just don't like pre-installed apps that can't be stopped or removed.
Anyone know what this app is? We can uninstall via titanium backup because it seems to cause some wakelocks, but I have no idea what it is or what it does.
did anybody figure out what mocallite is? i saw it today and wanted to delete it, but i bricked my first ham2, so i learned to be a little more paitent.
MOCALite is said to be " a built in software by Huawei to view Office documents like word, ppt etc "
Thanks for the reply. How did you find out this info?

Hehe, I read that from chinese forum, there is no official answer yet, and another answer is "MOCA Lite" which maybe huawei multi-media client. As Huawei is a memeber of MOCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance). Since we have recovery now, so feel free try to disable/delete them.
Hi, I force stop my mocalite. N clear my cache on it. Would it affect my phone? How can I reinstalled it back?

Force stopping and clearing cache won't uninstall Mocalite, so it is still on your phone.

Hi. I had no problem after following various threads finding out how to downgrade from 5.0 to a release prior to june 5th 2014 and towelroot but I do not wish to buy mobileodin and upgrade or ever end up with 5.0 but I can not find the answer to this anywhere...
How do I block OTA updates? I have found most devices you can change the extension of one or more files under system/app and that is how I would like to do it if possible. Thanks
PS I even tried searching Prevent OTA, Block OTA, Stop OTA, so I'm sorry if there is a thread on this already and it looks dreadfully obvious to someone else.
There are a couple of services you can freeze with Titanium Backup but I think you have to have the Pro version (which means you will have to pay) but if you are rooted, the OTA won't install successfully anyway. It will download and warn you that it's going to install, and then try to install and error out.

what services? will titanium tell me which ones? If I know what the services are and their file names, can't i just add ".bak" or anything to the file names? This is the problem, I dont know what they are called. I'm considering getting titanium anyway, so thanks for that info.

Sorry but I don't remember which services they are. But if you do some searching you should be able to find them in these threads. Titanium Backup will not tell you which ones. It's just a backup program. But it does have a lot of features and can freeze programs you don't want to run.

when you say "found many articles" do you mean you got many hits? I have gone through nearly every one of the first couple pages of results I got from that search before comming here. The only one that actually talked about the specific files did not mention the T-Mobile variant, and the files for the other variants were not the same. All the other results refer to different phones entirely, or talk about using an app. (which is not what I'm asking). There was no reason other than to be a jerk to tell me to google it. If you actually found an answer, why didn't you just tell it to me? Right, because you didn't, because it's not that obvious.

Thanks! Do you think adding ".bak" to it or something will be enough, or would it be better to just copy it to PC and remove it entirely? (I just feel more comfortable having it to put back if ever).
If I don't get a reply, I will just remove it to be sure.
