You should change it to "making facebook notifications work" I did that yesterday I though it was interested and for some reason so far is working, even tho i have been getting most of my notifications on my evo 3d already
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

Np man, my friend went to the sprint store to do it in a store demo and it worked lol

I read about this and thought about trying it. It's always annoyed me that I never got any facebook notifications, because I thought I was supposed to...ya know?
...but the more I thought about it the more I realised how irritating it would be to actually get all of my facebook notifications in my notification bar...and how much more annoying it would be to have a notification sound to go with it....and I don't even have a huge friend list...
Even though notifications was a huge problem with fb app, its still not that useful of an app compared to like bb or ios versions. Ive found friendcaster works way better nd always shows notifications and takes u directly to the appropriate place in the app. It does forward u to the touch or mobile site for a few things here nd there but overall way ahead of official app!

I like friendcaster a bit better than the standard app as well. Still, it could be much better.
Haha...this is funny because I posted these exact same findings on another Android site (the "Central" one) last Friday, August 5th and by Sunday the mods had tested it, put up a video, shot it to the front page and made a Sticky of it in the Applications forum. I can tell you that it works. Facebook for Android basically piggy backs on the Blackberry for Android permissions. There's approximately about 95% functionality with this. One of the things that doesn't work correctly for example are Poke notifications. You get the push notification but when you click on that particular one nothing happens. It's a very minor issue in my book.
What is this Facebook?
Don't worry guys, After Nov 5 Facebook is no more.

My recent phone history: BB Curve>BB Tour>HTC Hero>HTC EVO 4G>Samsung Epic>HTC EVO3D
I just checked and I still have the BB permissions on my FB Account Setting and I'm not getting push notifications.
I will try to sign in on a BB when I get access to one because I remember getting push notifications on my Hero when I had it, which was directly after I had the Tour.
I'm coming from an iphone 4. I know that makes me sound like a noob but I have grown acustom to visual voicemail since android doesn't have it built in I need an app. Can you guys and gals recommend me one or two thanks.

Same here +1 google voice. You can create a "voice mail only" account and not worry about available numbers.
Youmail Old version works well for me.
+10000000 for Google Voice... plus you can entertain friends with the transcriptions.

If you don't want GVoice or the other mentioned app, AT&T released "AT&T Messages" to cover visual voicemail. Search for it in the marketplace.
I would not use the at&t messages app because it is extremely slow and had major lag issues on the thrill I had. The idea is ok but the follow through is poor.
Add my recommendation to the list lol.
Google Voice
Followed the recommendations and Google voice wins by far.
The only thing is how do you set up a custom message for missed calls?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
you have to log in thru the google voice website and set it up thru there
Another Google Voice recommendation. 9 times out of 10 you just read the transcript and that's it, no need to even listen to the voicemail. Works great, and you can even get voice mail audio and transcripts emailed to you, so even if your phone is off or you left it at home, as long as you can check emails you won't miss any messages.
how do you set up google voice to work with AT&T? I thought you couldn't set it up on AT&T and always select "skip" when I get to voicemail set up..

Nope, use the automatic setup in the GV app - worked fine on my Aria a year and a half ago, worked on my SGS2 a couple days ago, but had to enable, switch back to att voicemail in the calls menu, then switch back to GV immediately. Not sure why it took 2 trys to take on the sgs2.

Lol, it doesn't even translate standard English that well.
Yep, google voice is the winner in my book as well. Even though the transcriptions are horribly mangled sometimes, you can usually get the gist of things pretty easily.
Are any of you using this app successfully? I'm thinking this awesome app may be what's causing my phone to lock up and randomly reboot.
I've been using it for a couple months but I'm no power user of the app. I get maybe 1 e-mail a day that I either move to a folder or delete.
edit: I'm using Jokers rev 2/test3 rom
I use the app and so does my wife. We are for sure power users averaging 75-200 emails a day across 2-4 accounts. I couldn't handle how the built in app didn't visually differentiate visually what account each email is from (for us it makes a huge difference).
That said my phone does reboot more often than I like. I don't have lockups but I did have instances where I couldn't type or make calls without a reboot, but my wife never has this. I tracked it down to SwiftKey X Keyboard. I have since moved to another keyboard (Flex T9, and ICS Keyboard) and I have eliminated the typing issues.

It's not the app, once again...you have a broken photon lol =/. Good news is, you arent missing much with enhanced email, gmail app gets emails 5-10 minutes faster than enhanced email. I've tried it on two phones, and a tab, all same results. It's a nice idea to have all accounts merged, but with this app, that's all it is, an idea.

I don't think all three replacement phones are broken with the same exact issues. My phone has now been running for four days w/ no issues (the longest yet) after doing a factory reset and installing no apps. This leads me to believe my problems are software related. Now, I'm trying to smoke out the problematic app(s).
Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing, as my Enhanced E-Mail seems to be quite laggy sometimes, and it's almost always the first thing to show the annoying keyboard lock-up, no-dialing issue. However, I use it ALL the time so that may just be an obvious consequence ... at any rate, I'd hate to take it off the phone unless we knew for sure!

I'm glad I am not the only one who gets the keyboard lock-up, no-dialing, random reboot issue. Since I stopped using EE, I have not experienced any of these issues in over a week. In a few more days, I am going to reinstall it to see if the problems return. If they do, then EE is officially the problem in my book! The app is so awesome that I hope it is a different app causing the problems. For me, the other problem app could have been Smart Keyboard Pro. I've since switched to the A.I.Type keyboard which I like better. If no problems return after I reinstall EE then the problems would have been caused by Smart Keyboard Pro on my phone.
A new version of EE (v.1.31.2) was released today! I am going to try it and see if the random reboots return. Since uninstalling EE a few weeks ago, my phone has been running FLAWLESSLY with no reboots! Let's hope that continues after installation. (crossing fingers)
Anyone currently using EE successfully with zero random reboots?

Unfortunately K-9 Mail has weak support for exchange, I connect to two different servers (or it did a few years ago, it still has only WebDAV support) and neither worked with K-9.
On a different note, do you have any reboots with Kaiten?

I used to use Kaiten and K-9. Here are the *main* problems I had with them:
Can't change font color
Can't change font type
Let's say I have 100 emails in my inbox, I scroll down to see email #59, I switch to different app for something, when I return to K-9/Kaiten, the app reloads all of my emails; thus LOSING MY PLACE in the message list. Completely unacceptable!!!
Have these issues been addressed in the latest versions?
I've been interested in using a 3rd party email app (EE, kaiten, k9, maildroid, etc) for multiple Gmail accounts. My only question is if the 3rd party app gets push email just like the stock Gmail app.
honestly, im happy with stock e-mail as I don't type full page novels, but honestly, I have hears nothing but negative on EE!

Great! Please let us know if your phone starts experiencing random reboots after installing EE if you don't already experience them.
I haven't had any random reboots but my first gripe about EE is no threaded emails. Am I not seeing a setting in EE for threaded emails?
What other 3rd party email apps have you guys used that have threaded emails?
I'm a HEAVY E-mail user with one Exchange account, two IMAP accounts and two GMail accounts synced to my phone. I'm running the latest version of MeanROM which I mostly enjoy but the stock mail.apk applet has been completely overlooked. I'm convinced very few users maintain EAS accounts or bother with the stock app but it's pretty key to me.
It doesn't appear the 1.22.651.3 base or Sense 4.1 did anything to address the oversized font/zoom issue with the stock mail app nor did it fix the "Display Images" button on every message with HTML content. It also broke the ability to display links but that's a different issue altogether.
Which ROMs have addressed the stock mail applet or am I stuck with +20pt fonts on an otherwise gorgeous display?
I know CM10's default email fixes the issue (and bonus--you can flip through your emails without going back to your inbox). Of course, it also forces you to input your pin every time you want to use the phone, but that's a minor bug.
Links inside of emails NEVER worked for me on this phone, even when it was bone stock.
Clickable links in an email (and text messages) on a mobile device is patented by Apple and that may be the reason why they're not working in the stock mail app.
I can't speak with authority, but non-clickable links in email may be an intentional move by HTC to avoid getting sued.

I thought the meanrom had this fix??? I've never had any issues on mine. Then again, I run the stock w/goodies rom; 1.78 to be exact. I've had nothing but good luck with my email; even with meanrom.

Thanks for the notice-- I tried it and found no difference to mail. Links are still disabled in plain-text formatted E-mails and the too-large font issue remains. IMAP accounts don't auto-sync either.

I feel your pain.
Unfortunately you might just have to go with CM10, if this is you use Mail on your phone this much. The one feature lacking from the CM10 version is the inability to set an update schedule. But everything else is at least comparable.
And, just like with the Sense version, there is a version that bypasses Exchange security so you don't have to use a PIN to unlock your phone every time.
+1 on CM10
Thanks for the responses. I'm surprised few ROMs seem to address this. I'm going to try Stock w/ Goodies or CM10 next... Are there any glaring issues to look out for?

Have you used K9 mail? The logo is stupid but the app is amazing. It always is on top of "best email app" lists. Give that a shot before changing ROMs just for the sake of the email app.

I thought about K-9 but that was back when it still had the Gingerbread UI. I still do.t think I should have to maintain a third party app for basic functionality that HTC borked from the factory.
Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet? Or will I just need to find a new mail app?

+1 I use an Exchange email account on Viper4g 2.0.2 in the stock mail app and have the text size set to small, Pinch to zoom works most times, the show pictures works every time, and links work just fine.
There is a REALLY cool feature I'd like to be able to utilize where the G4 pulls up your most recent contacts when you start to share something.
*see attached image* (names and numbers have been edited out for privacy reasons)
Only problem is, that even though my default messaging app is Next SMS if I select one of these recent contacts at the top. It still opens up "messaging" to send the message. Which actually is very limiting because it doesn't like not being default with MMS's.
Is there an easy way to change that behavior?
Thanks,
Gilligan

Yeah unless you ran a logcat or people contacted you every time you didn't reply then you really wouldn't know. I used to use handcent until people started getting mad I wasn't replying. Then I looked into it and saw it was failing. It was a great app until it was sold to a China based company.
So, how do you turn off the row for messaging if you have a different app (YAATA) doing the messaging for you now?

It should auto replace the normal messaging.
As you can see from my SS
Hmmm.. mine is acting differently. I has two rows. One replaced, one didn't.
As you can see here, top row is YAATA, bottom is still "Messaging".
The more you use it the less they will be there. If you have root you could always freeze it or disable it. It could also be the device. I know some apps are making it annoying to replace the stock apps. Like Samsung devices.
