This is most noticeable for me after I use Chrome. I was just using it for about 20 minutes and then went to the home screen, and I could see the URL on the home screen at about 30% opacity. I rotated my screen and even took a picture to double check that it is an actual burn in and not just the app being weird, and it doesn't rotate with my tablet or show up in the screenshot so it is most definitely a burn in.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I have had no issue with screen burn in. I've had my Prime for a month, using it for a few hours every day.
Sorry to hear of your issue.
This happens to me all the time. It is especially noticeable when I am using the Asus weather widget since it has large white text.
Does it eventually disappear? I imagine it would have to, because otherwise your screen would become unusable.
If it DOES disappear, what causes it to do so? Reboots? Time? Something else?

If it's anything like plasma (but it isn't is it? what would cause burn on this kind of screen?) then time and flashing the screen with solid white will usually dispel the ghost images. New plasma TV's even constantly rotate your pixels (in such small increments you can't notice) around to avoid this kind of thing.
Yup, burn in on my transformer prime too. I use the Air Display app to turn it into a second monitor on my computer at work. After eight hours of windows in one place, I can still see where they were four hours afterwards. No bueno.

Hi everyone!, I'm having this really odd issue with my S2. I've only had it about a week now and this could have been happening all along though I didn't notice it.
Basically If the screen is off and I hit the power button is has this really slight flicker as the screen comes on. It's almost like a single line down the screen right before the wallpaper appears. It's also right-justified on the screen and always in the same spot.
Has anyone else had this issue? It can be reproduced by simply hitting the power button to shut the screen off then hitting it again to turn it on.
Thanks!
Edit: Also the screen doesn't always fade on. 3/5 times it will just "instant-on" where I'll hit the power button and it will instantly show the lock screen tile instead of "fading" into it. Does this happen to anyone else or does it ALWAYS fade in?
I'm probably just being paranoid but I'd rather replace the phone quickly to avoid actually sending it to manufacturer.
Thanks again!
You should take a video of it so we can see if it is normal. I don't see what you describe, and not sure the phone is supposed to "fade in" to the lock screen. Mine is always instant on.
I once flashed to Litening ROM and it had that flicker (lightning style) as a feature I guess, is it the same problem OP stated?
Regards.
Saw it once two days ago, vertically on the extreme left of the screen. Haven't seen it since, but it was very rapid - blink-and-you'll-miss-it job. Can't say it worries me. On Revolution FWIW.

sorry I can't take a video since this is the only device that I own that is capable of taking video.
anyway, yeah - it's really quick. And it's vertically down the screen. I kind of assumed that it was the backlight turning on but I'm pretty certain that happens on the sides right?
Right now it's 10:00 and this issue happens right where the "1" is on the clock at the top of the screen. So starting from that 1 all the way to the bottom.
Again it's REALLY fast - but it's noticeable, I'd have no problem showing it to someone in front of me. It just looks like a single line about the same width as the "1" as well. It almost seems like the one tiny line is showing before the rest of the screen, like if the screen were a "loading process" that line would be the first thing to appear before the rest gets backlit.
Not sure if it matters but it's the model I9100M from Virgin, just incase they are made differently somehow.
This phone has no backlight. The LED's are all individually lit.

Hmm, not the same problem as me - certainly nothing to do with the time here - it was in the afternoon when it happened with me, and my lockscreen clock's in 12 hour format. Clock's also at the bottom of my screen.
Been trying to reproduce it, and can't.

No no, I wasn't saying that the clock had anything to do with it, I was just trying to describe where the line appears on screen. I was also talking about the clock that appears at the very top, not the one on the lock screen. If I just continually tap the power button on and off I can see the "line" appear every time exactly in that spot.
It's pretty noticeable, unless you have the phone away from you - so if you don't see it then it probably isn't happening.
Does anyone think I should return this and get another? I don't really want to run into issues later and have to send to manufacturer. Is this problem big enough that I could get it replaced without issue?
Thank's for the replies!
Sorry, misunderstood. Definitely not my problem, I have no clock in the status bar.
If it happens every time, I'd probably return it if I was you - could be the precursor of something more serious.
Hi again, Thanks for the replies. I realized today that the issue is really only noticeable if you're in a dark room. Even in a semi-lit room it's almost unnoticeable which is probably why I hadnt seen it thus far.
If anyone wouldn't mind flicking the lights off and taking a look I'd appreciate it. If not I'll just return it.
thanks again forum!
I experience it too (at least I think we are talking about the same thing)..it's like it's stuttering and lagging after being in standby. So the first time it renders the lockscreen, the first few frames seem to be rendered at a different pace. If you turn the screen on after a good break, it'll likely do it, but after a few times in a row it instantly shows the screen.
Perhaps it relates to how big the wallpaper for the lockscreen is. I'm not sure, but I've had some huge 2mb pictures set as wallpapers for the lockscreen, and afterwards I think I decided to select a smaller image. I don't know if it was just a placebo effect, but anyways..it still does it with my current picture. I don't really care. You could try a different lockscreen from android market and see if it helps, but I think every SII suffers from this.
I have this exact issue too and it really annoys me! I also bought the phone from Virgin if that is relevant. It's a white streak on the left of the screen for me and only happens every so often. So what's the prognosis? A software fault? Hopefully fixed in a subsequent firmware update? Or a hardware fault worth repairing?
When using reddita, I noticed as I left links some of her interface of reddita stayed uvisible very lightly.
Also it seems like the digitizer takes a harder touch than I'm used to. Anyone else?

I've noticed this temporarily on my first prime. When changing orientation I noticed that the home, back and menu buttons would "ghost.". It wasn't very visible and seemed to go away after doing a reset, but did happen nontheless.
I will check again when I get my replacement.

Thanks, let me know. I've got no idea whats going on. my first prime didn't do it.
It is a screen burn in. It will be more noticable in the future and on specific backgrounds. Very common for various monitor displays. But yes, it makes it seem 'used' in the future.
A burn-in? I thought that was only with plasma screens.
None of my +10 LCD monitors have had this happen,
so im not so sure about that.
I don't think it's burn in, because it's an LCD display. However, something similar to this happened on my pos Westinghouse LCD TV sometime ago. It would retain/ghost images of tv station logos and "no signal" box that appears when there's no inut signal. The consensus on AVS forums was that it's software issue with the LCD controller. May be something similar with the Prime.
You absolutely can get a burned image on an LCD. Go to almost any retail store and look at there displays. It takes longer but it can happen. With that said, I domt think that that's what's happenning here. Is your unit cold to the touch? What temperature was it when it occurred? It is common for LCD to act this way in cold temperatures and Even in high altitudes.

There's no way it's a screen burn in when I have less than one hour of screen on time. That would be ridiculous.
It goes away eventually as well.
Got this on my Prime as well. Sometimes soft keys or widgets are ghosting and still visible after starting an app. But I am experiencing also other screen issues (glue visible right and left) and I am returning the Prime...
Hello.
Today i noticed that my main screen has a burn in.
I used AMOLED Burn in fix and i can see the message bar from whatsapp and also the bottom screen buttons etc.
Anyone else had this problems?
Considering the v10 uses LCD, not OLED or AMOLED....no

LCD does not burn in. I don't know what you could be seeing, but it seems very highly unlikely.

I've had this problem for a few days about 2 weeks ago, I could still see AT&T in the top corner. It did look like it was burned in but I knew it wasn't since it's LCD so I didn't worry about it too much. It randomly fixed itself. I wonder what caused it.
I have the same exact problem. And it heals itself but 5 mins of whatsapp use and there it is again. It is so annoying. I m thinking of returning it!
I would suggest to get rid of what's app. That seems to be the common cause for the majority here. Could be what's app is bad app to run on V10
If you dont call this a screen burn then what is it:
http://imgur.com/a/zQWIR
After 3hrs of wave navigation
Grey background to show effect
This won't be too helpful since I can't remember for sure what I was looking at when it happened but...
Earlier today I noticed that my keyboard was showing "in the background" of an app as though it was burned in.
It was definitely strange looking.
I think it was the weather channel app (which had no need for a keyboard popup) yet it almost looked like the app was transparent with the keyboard behind it.
It's definitely not doing it now but it was really weird looking!

Guys please relax that's just image retention as far as LCDs are the topic. Unless if you stay at the same thing for like 5 hours (this [might] cause a permanent retention i guess).
the only thing that is prone to burn ins are OLED screens. And burn ins are permanent... because they are a burn.
LCDs only retain images because the crystals in their display tends to stay at the same position they are in after a long period of use but this doesn't actually produce damage and doesn't stay permanently. Once the display changes (either turned off or a different thing is displayed) they would eventually return to their normal state and work just fine.
Interesting. I wasn't really "unrelaxed" though... Just never saw it before so I figured I'd share my experience.

I just noticed a burn-in, or some kind of image retention. I accidentally left my phone on all night while sleeping and the next morning there was a burn in on the top of the screen. It's only noticible when I pull down the notification bar because it's gray. I can only see it in the gray. The whole status bar is burned-in. It has been gradually dissipating. I also noticed a little bit of this when I used Waze for a long road trip a couple weeks ago, but it wasn't as severe of a burn in. At least it is disappearing slowly.

Same happened to me today. Slept through an amber alert that caused my screen to stay on. When i woke up my phone was off and hot to the touch. Switched batteries and noticed after powering on the amber alert was still faintly visible in the backgound. After about 10 minutes of screen use it gradually faded away.

Apparently officially termed "image persistence". Your post recreates a lot of the language from that article. Yeah, LCDs don't burn-in so this topic seemed rather odd to me. What could start showing up is the "dynamic contrast" done with LED backlights to LCDs burning-in; the fact that I've never heard any reports may mean it is uncommon, but I'm cringing at it happening in the future.

Or image retention. It does go away though. Maybe a bad batch too? I drive from Ohio to Orlando, FL with Google maps on the entire time and bendy had a retention issue. All the ones with the issue also said the screen was hot. Corks that be a factor?

I have had my V10 since December (from T-Mobile). Initially no problems to report, but the image retention issue has become progressively worse (as I type this, the image of this site is being temporarily "burned in"). my father also got a V10 the same day, but does not report this issue. User activity may be leading to a faster declining lifespan of phone, but both phones have had a drastic increase in overheating since receiving the Marshmallow update, which may also be playing a role in the even greater amounts of image retention (a single game of candy crush leaves a residual image).
I'm 19, so like most millennials, I use my phone constantly which is possibly why I have this issue, but it is unfortunate to think there's a chance my phone is slowly dying from general use.
same issue with my v10 (bought a month back)
i think my culprit is Deer hunter 2016...as its the only game i play& only notice it more once i have played it.. i have also seen that if i keep my phone off during the night.. it usually goes away.. while if my phone is ON (standyby) during the night.. it stays. i didnt turned my phone off for the past 2 nights & the burn is pretty much there as you can see. my phone is an ATT v10 h900 on lollypop.. any suggestion will be appreciated.
So recently I've been using snap chat a bit often and I noticed after maybe 10 minutes of in and out on the app when I went to my home screen there was a screen burn in of my keyboard and the general GUI. Now I fixed it using an app that flashes colors to correct the issue, but still the screen burn in keeps coming back often and its noticeable.
Just wondering if anyone else has had issues with this. Sure I've heard of TV's with a static image for over a long duration having screen burn in, but 10 minutes on an app while brightness is at 0. Seems kinda ridiculous

Is there a fix for this?

It is called screen burn, there is a thread dedicated to this problem. Search for screen burn on this forum!
I'll check that out but how could it happen and this is the 3rd one I've had and they all did it. That's why i assumed it had something to do with the screen overlay.

life is this with V10, all have the same issue...mine only have 9 months since i buy it and have ghost images since 2 months from today and no solution...the only solution is send it to LG Repair Center and they change it, but mine lose the guarantee when i unlocked the bootloader so...i will not buy the screen since this is a known problem with V10 display.
better keep it going cool and avoid high levels of brightness only when is needed and avoid playing games since that warm up the phone and the screen will show ghost images. Then when it happens lock your phone, shut down the screen for 3/4 minutes and the ghost is gone...you need to do it everytime you see a ghost image and have trouble with them.
i dont bother with that...i love the phone anyway, when the screen die by itself i change it for another, but now let it rock even with ghost images.
Sofwtare side has nothing (mod or app) that can fix your problem...its the display problem (hardware).
Mine has heavy permanent ghosting that appears after minutes of use when the phone has rested overnight. Though I can prevent any ghosting from becoming visible by installing "Bluelight Filter for Eye Care" and set the filter to the black color with an opacity of just 3% (hardly even affects the maximum brightness). Stopping the display from showing the whitest of colors prevents the ghosting to apperar no matter how high brightness you have or for how long. At least on my unit. So now my screen is permanently perfect instead.

I had just did a factory reset and it's actually gone this time. I'm sure it will come back though.
I've been using v10 for a year now this image retention/ ghosting is really annoying but there's actually a solution to it by using screen filter.
if you apply the filter as soon as you turn on your phone after a while, when there are no temporary burns on screen. They won't come back if you keep the filter on.
I use blue light filter but I'm sure every filter will work even if you keep the filter at low opacity for example at 20%, it'll still work.
Give it a try.
and one more thing if the filter is on you might get an error while giving permissions to apps. so you have to turn off the filter when you get "screen overlay detected" error.
