First, IMO MIUI just looks like an iPhone. But the problem is the locked bootloader, without it being unlocked you can't install the custom kernel required by those ROMs. I have the Eclipse ROM installed right now and love the debloatedness of it. I will go back to stock once ICS is released so I can upgrade. But I think I will stick with this until then.

Really wouldn't recommend doing that, you will almost certainly bootloop your phone. Other devices use different hardware and need different drivers, it takes a fair bit of work to port a ROM.

Do you just want the theme? We can't really port a lot more than a framework to the RAZR thanks to that locked bootloader.
If it is the theme you want, extract the boot animation, sounds, fonts, framework-res, system UI, and any apps you fancy, and start extracting, signing, and comparing what's in the RAZR's stock files vs. your desired ROM. Steep learning curve if you're new to it, no overnight fix or instant answer, I'm afraid.

i want the whole rom...has bootloader fix...everything. wish that you all could just read what the rom has,,even includes ics. well thanks everyone for your time and efforts of trying to help

What you need in custom ROM

Hi guys,
I am one of galaxy s2 die hard fans and i love it! however currently, i am on GB, not planning to move to ICS due to all those bugs and force close thing.
I am planning to make a new ICS custom ROM base on official xwlp7(latest Russian release) and wanna share it with you all.
However, i need some opinions and advises from you all.
Example, what you want/need for a ROM that suits you. I am thinking of OTA thingy for ease of customization, but i might need to "rent" or host my own server for that. I am too new for that, and I don't think i can afford it.
Tell me what you want, like, need, must have and so on.
Btw, can i replace old bootloader for official ICS firmware for usb jig purposes?
What apk is a need and what not. I am still new on this, so my so-call future ROM might or might not come out. Hope i don't give up half way. I know this is gonna be tough for someone new to cook a new ROM like me. I love challenges!
So please leave a comment, i will try to evaluate and hopefully make a useful ROM for you guys. Let's keep the development alive! WEEEEEEE!
Yes you can include old bootloader. Thats what I do when repackaging firmwares.
Also, include the usual, Superuser, Busybox, CWM Recovery.
Personally thats all I would need but cosmetic changes are more my thing. So extra window animations and transitions would be great with a menu in settings to choose from!
Good luck!

Thanks man. Appreciate it. I will try to make a simple ROM and remove bloatware as my first try. If I am not wrong, only ubuntu can be use to make custom ROM?

It is new information for me that each Custom Rom (CWM package) also contain Bootloader?

I suppose so. You need bootloader to boot up your phone. That's why it is called bootloader!

Razr V (XT885) Custom recovery BMM

Hey guys I have a Razr V and I know there is basically no support for it on here but having a look around I managed to install Boot Menu Manager (BMM) recovery on it and it seams to be working fine.
Foolishly I tried to flash a CM10.1 ROM on it that is hardcoded to only work on Safestrap ROM slot 1. I can still access the recovery though and I was wondering if someone can point me to a ROM they may work with this phone (its stuck on ICS kernel and I'm not sure if there is a JB kernel I could flash)
This is good progress for us guys with this phone, I think its available in Canada, China and Australia. Anyway I'm trying to get a custo ROM on here and was wondering if some of you guys might be able to help me out.
Would I be able to flash a JB kernel for the XT910? The phones are very similar, but I don't want to try it if it will certainly brick my phone.
EDIT: at the moment my phone is boot looping on the CM10 screen so it is good news we may be close to getting a custom ROM on here, or maybe I'm just an idiot and have ruined my phone
Cheers
SUCCESS!!! I managed to boot into D-WIZ 3.01 ROM but I have no software buttons anyone Know a patch for this?

What were the problems with the rom you installed. Also to port roms you need a base like cm10 otherwise its pointless. Every custom rom not based on stock is cyanogen based. All roms like miui, pac, etc are all based on cyanogen. So if we can get a cyanogen mod built rom to boot on our phone we can then start modifying it get all the broken things to work once we have done that we can then create a devtree then compile our roms from source. Its a bit backwards but way quicker than starting from nothing.
The soft buttons was an easy fix but the other problems where the SD card wouldn't mount properly. (File manager and storage recognised it but the phone said it was damaged) and the camera force closed.

Hey, I too have a RAZR V, and I live in Canada. For MONTHS I've been waiting for JB, anything higher than 4.0.4, but Motorola is taking their sweet ass time with it.
I'm not very tech savvy, so I was wondering if you could post a tutorial, or a walkthrough of how you flashed CM10 onto your phone?
I can provide any information you might need, please let me know
I managed to get it to boot once but other attempts have been unsuccesfull. I sent RAZR V device info to whirleyes the developer of BMM and hopefully he can improve compatibility.
At the moment the only thing working properly is flashing zips. I've soft bricked my phone several times this week and I'm about to go on vacation for a month so i might try out again when I get back.
In guess the good thing about a locked boot loader is that it is almost impossible to fully brick
At the moment its trial and error sorry, I'm not sure how I got it to boot the first time and also camera and SD card didn't work.

Guys ,the JElly BEan update for the XT885 in China is rolling out. I have downloaded the update but scared maybe it might brick my phone when i flash it. I want to know how different the Chinesse version is from the Canadian version. Can i just flash the update and change the language settings later on. And also clearly the update file is named in English having the abbreviation "en" in the name of the file. Do you guys feel its safe to flash

Hi everyone,
I was wondering it it's possible to install the Motorola RAZR/RAZR MAXX (GSM) CyanogenMod 10.1 on my Motorola RAZR V X885?
I checked that both devices have the same specs.
The version that I want to try to install is the RC5. I would post the link, but, "ALL new users prevented from posting outside links in their messages". hahaha
Do u think I will get some trouble with this?
Thanks!

I was thinking exactly about doing the same thing, but I'm concern about using a ICS kernel with a JB rom. We should first try to flash a JB kernel. But I'm a bit loss with SafeStrap. Has anyone been able to boot something else in Slot 2+ ? I've tried to copy my existing system over these slot and it doesn't work. But I guess it has something to do with the kExec thing.
You can't do so. Your bootloader only allows you to install the system with the same signature. It won't pass the signature check to boot unless you backup and wipe mmcblk1p16(cid)

There's a post in "droidevelopers" that show how to update XT885. Try to look for "14904-how-install-jellybean-4-1-2-your-droid-razr-v-xt885" in the website.

Have questions about custom rom kernel for AT&T

Hi,
Was wondering...is there a stock rom thats floating around for AT&T US....im new to the rom, kernel scene...and im wondering how I get a complete backup of my device if I want to go back to the stock rom that came with the US version of the HTC one...I keep hearing about a nandroid backup..will that work...and if i backup..and go back to stock rom...do i void my warranty..also..i see a rom called the clean rom which i think would fit my needs...but there is also a kernel out there called bulletproof...is the kernel and the rom two seperate things..im confused..always thought they were one in the same..sorry for the stupid question...can i use bulletproof kernel with the clean rom? and how would i go about getting that kernel on there..if so..thanks..for your time...
Kernel and rom are different. Imagine the kernel as the engine of the car and the rom is the body. Read around the dev section for different rom features to find the one that suits your needs. Be confident in what your doing before getting flash happy so ya dont mess up yur device

There are nandroid backups you can flash in recovery that will bring you back to stock. It's always a good idea to make your own backup before flashing anything.

Hi, I am new to the Atrix :)

Hey all, before I had a Motorola Defy, now I am with an Atrix 4g
My basic question is, what should not do to brick my phone? should I update it? Like I said, I came from a Defy, Defy has a locked bootloader so it is almost impossible to brick it, now I am a little scared with the Atrix hehe. Thanks !

you shoudn't flash an sbf file that is not the same as your current version. to update or not to update, that is entirely up to you. if yoh're satisfied with a gb os (2.3.x), don't upgrade. if you want ics (4.0 4) or jb (4.1.x-4.2.2), then update. just unlock the bootloader, root your phone, and enjoy

you could if you wanted, but most of the updated versions are available through the rom superthread thread in the development section. just be sure to pay attention to carrier specific roms if you chose to use one of them. and i did just see your post in another thread saying that you were on froyo. after seeing that, i would say yes, upgrade your phone to a better os. gb works great, ics and jb work well and will work better now that we have the new kernel, but expect bugs to be present, but they are still very usable roms

Can you imagine the chaos if every new member decided to skip all the reading and just opened a new thread?

Hey guys,
I just got this device and I'm loving it so far... I'm a T-Mobile customer, so I'm looking to flash a tmobile radio and Rom. The thing is I bought this from someone who used a toolkit to root it and unlock the bootloader. It's also running insert coin Rom and twrp.. I know nothing else is done besides that. This is my first non Samsung device, and Im used to the simplicity of Odin , I really dont want to screw anything up... Anyone have some advice? Thanks in advance...

I am probably not certified to answer this question. But my suggestion is-
You are searching here ( your best bet) so maybe search youtube for how to video's on "un"rooting and going back to stock. They normally have links to downloads that you need.
what is wrong with just leaving it unlocked and rooted, just flashing a different rom?

This will get you back to near stock T-mo >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281943
your best off to stay away from a radio update unless your having a problem.
Leave the recovery as is for now till you learn more about your phone
make a backup from TWRP and store it in a safe place (other than on the phone) before you go flashing roms (just a good practice anytime)
all the popular roms in the international section will work on your phone, Android Revolution HD, TrickDroid, insertcoin ...etc, just take your time and read a lot
Thanks for the suggestions guys... So even though I'm s-on, I can still flash a different Rom?
