DIY Nook Tablet Case / Disguise - REDUX! - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

If you happened to see the first nook tablet case / disguise I made, it was great at looking "dressed down", but less suitable for a more upscale or professional atmosphere (i.e. job interview, lol)
If you didn't see it, check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488267]
This one is at home in more dignified locales. And, there's just something about holding a real book that feels... natural.

Well, finally a use for all those encyclopedias...don't know if you recall when people used go door to door peddling those babies. Nice!

Yep. One guy told my folks they "must not care about their child's future'" when they declined to purchase. Lol.
Now, they can be had at the local goodwill for $0.50 each, or three for a dollar.

Another work of art!
On a side note...I got suckered into the door to door encyclopedia sales...Cost me a total of like $890 bucks. But it was a lot more than just a set of books. I was basically a complete "homeschooling kit".

Wow, cool! you're genius!
The first Pink is very beautiful!

Haha how did you decide to choose to use the "L" book?

It was the right thickness. The original plan was to use the foam insert from the nook packaging. That didn't work out, wasn't secure enough, and couldn't access any buttons/ports, hence, the "broccoli bands".

X-acto knife, it took a few blades, they get dull pretty quick cutting paper. I don't like posting links outside of the forum, but, if you google "hollow out a book in 80 easy steps" the first result is the guide I used.

I love it, but there's something painfully ironic about ripping out the guts of a book to hold an e-reading device. XD

best mod EVER. I'm going to buy a nook just so I can do this. thanks

DIY Transformer Prime Case

Long time viewer, first time poster. I figure all the help you guys have given me I should return the favor.
What you need:
-A hard cover book the size of your prime
-The foam from the inside box covers (tab and dock)
-Some elastic strips
-Glue, a drill or punch, and a Box cutter or scissors
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
Some tips on building:
When cutting the foam out of the box don't worry about being too neat. Glue it to the inside cover of the book before trimming the edges.
Make sure once it's the right size you go around the edges and corners with glue.
When punching the holes to thread the elastic, be sure to line up the top hole along the left side with the center of the volume rocker.
You don't need to be too crafty to build this. And you wind up with a fairly original case for your prime.
Don't forget to make the cut out for the rear camera!!!

Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Cool idea. You should make a YouTube video n embedded it in your post. PLUS this makes the prime kind of discreet. People more than likely to think you carrying a book or reading one. Less likely to get stolen if in public area.
Looks good and a very cheap n quick solution.
Wow, that's hardcore.
This is the most ghetto/amazing thing I've seen. Nice work
Sick! I think I'm gonna roll the sugru route. Roll up some pieces put it on the corners and push it into some saran wrap so its nice n smooth. I think it'll come out pretty clean. I've seen it done on phones and it looks clean...
Modded by MBOK
Can you post a link for purchasing sugru? Looks like exactly what I want.
Methaq
Edit: Found it sugru dot com /us
Post here if you do the sugru before me. I had to return my prime yesterday and now I'm waiting for a new one to arrive, so I can't sugru it up yet

AWESOME!
I admire your creativity. I love making my own things (like adding a decoration to plain flip flops or recoloring and old purse & changing the hardware) but this is the greatest idea I've seen.
Wish I would have thought of it before spending $150 on cases. If I could just sew through leather, you could design and I could build. I need to make some serious $$$-lol.
Thanks for posting. Very nice
Haha well could make a little business

DIY NT Case/Disguise!

Unsatisfied with the various overpriced and under-featured armors available for the NT, I decided to make my own.
I wanted it to be capable of freestanding in either screen orientation, provide screen protection during transportation, give access to all physical buttons/ports without removing from case, be affordable to produce, and NOT LOOK LIKE A FANCY, EXPENSIVE, AND EASILY STOLEN TABLET( i live in miami, fl )!!!
Here's what I came up with:
{

Certainly. Wish I had something more glamorous than a hole cut through with an x-acto, but thats exactly what it is. Added pics of all ports and buttons as well.
Note: The black stuff that you can see in the pic of the usb port is a piece of that foamy, non-slip shelf liner. It does a fair job of keeping the nook from slipping out of the case, while still allowing it to be easily removable.
Another note: I've made another one of these, with black corrugated plastic instead of cardboard, and black duct tape instead of silver. Looks much more... civilized. Unfortunately, pics will have to wait, as the new one was kidnapped by my father for his nook tablet.

You sound like me ... When my kids were younger, they thought I could make anything they needed. Those tablet covers are ridiculously priced and necessity is the mother of invention. Besides, everyone knows duct tape works for everything except ducts . Duct tape comes in so many colors and combined with electrical tape...I bet enthusiasts can come up with some nice looking covers (and still have their tabs protected)
Psst...way to rub in your CM7. Bet you are enjoying it, I opted to wait and see what issues it would have, but I can't say I'm not salivating over the possibilities

Funny, and true. I prefer not to throw money at a problem. I'd much rather throw brains and sweat ( that didn't come out right... :what: ).
I think you made a good decision to wait. I installed cm7 before any of the bugs were discovered. If I'd known, I probably would have held off. I'm experienced with PCs, but quite new to android. I'm salivating as much as everyone else for the upcoming revision.

This is indeed very cool.
I was considering doing something like this but using olive green gaffe tape, 550 card and some black spray paint with a stenciled "n" on it. Kinda like a para-military nook case. Maybe when I get another job (damn you economy, damn you to hell) I'll go get the tape, tape and stencil material. I already have 200 yards of 550 cord and plenty of cardboard.

My new case

Really liking it so far.

Did you make it yourself? And how does the case 'holds' the tablet?
looks cool, is it home made ??
Nice work
Really like that, if I can get over my skittishness about defacing books (ex-librarian) I'm going to have a crack at that myself.
Good skills.
Yes, I made it myself. The tablet is held in with hefty duty velcro. I didn't really like this solution, but I was able to position the strips so that even when I take the tablet out, I don't feel the strips on the back when holding it normally.
As an English teacher, I also had a distaste of defacing books, but I managed to assuage this by going to a used book store and thus was safe in the knowledge that the book had lead a good life before I abused it.
After a few says of using it I am liking the case even more. In fact, I almost never take the tablet out (except to show people how it is attached) and I actually prefer holding it like this than naked as I do not fear dropping it.

Free lg g3 case's

Winner chosen, Congrats @djtoonjr.
So purchased a LG G3 but i did not end up liking the phone, it's just too small and slow for my liking. I've switched back to my Note 3. I purchased 3 cases from Amazon and since i will be returning the phone i thought i would give away the cases to someone on XDA.
Just leave a post here and i will pick someone at random on Monday Afternoon.
I will only ship to Contiguous United States, sorry.

Very generous of you, well happily pay for shipping and was looking for a caseology...
I was looking at reviews for that third case (Aura?) and was interested in it but the reviews said it was kind of loose on the phone. Was that your experience as well?
Is tough to find a good TPU Case with any sort of design but the last 2 you posted look pretty cool.
What's your opinion on them and where did you get the second one you posted (the EZ)
I'm in. Thanks
Count me in. Loving that first case.
Awesome idea! Thanks for sharing! Now I'm gonna hold off buying a case for my new phone until I see if i get one of these! Hah
Wouldn't mind the first case either.

The Aura case isn't a "perfect" fit, but it's definitely not noticeable unless you look at it closely. It never bothered me.
I got the EZ one from Amazon as well. I can post the link if you can't find it.

A nice Folio Case with a range of colors to choose from for the Nexus 6?

The nexus 6 is HUGE and I like using skinny jeans, basically a terrible combination , to walk around town or ride the train the nexus 6 can fit on the jeans, the problem arises when I ride my bike (which I often do) I feel like I'm going to bend the phone or it is just gonna slip out of my pocket and hit the pavement, so I carry it on my backpack, but I don't want it to get scratched.
I want a folio case to protect it while it is on my bag, something like the official case mate folio case, but with nice colors like the range of colors the HTC Dot View case has instead of the muted black fake leather
No, I didn't know you liked using skinny jeans. Noted.

You guys are real sassy today haha :laugh: , sorry English is not my first language :crying: , yep, I pretty much didn't know how to describe what I wanted :laugh: , what I wanted to say is that I wanted I folio case, but not a big one something like this but without room for cards, money etc , just a soft material that won't scratch the screen and I wanted something a bit more colorful than the muted fake black leather, I checked spigens website because I had a hunch that maybe the iphone 6 plus would have more colors to choose from, and sure it does (they are all terrible except for the white maybe? ) ... but nexus 6 owners get only get black
