Possible to connect IP camera to X2 mobil hotspot? - Motorola Droid X2

So I am installing a android tablet into my cars dash to use as navigation/entertainment etc..
I was lookign around for anyway to have a rearview camera display on the tablet but have come up empty.
Im wondering though. If I took a wireless IP camera and installed in the car and figured out the power issue. Could I then turn on my X2's mobil hotspot have camera connect to that and then use a ip camera app on the tablet to view the camera? Creating a rearview camera.
Not sure if the camera would connect to internet with phone the same way as a router.
Anyone know?
Thanks

Interesting idea. I just tried using IP Webcam on my DX2 and it worked out fine.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pas.webcam&hl=en
I started the hotspot, connected with my laptop, started the IP Webcam service on the phone and then connected with my browser--no problemo. I don't know how the browser on your tablet will respond, but it's certainly worth a try.
One note: I did have to turn off Droidwall, even with the connection set to "allowed", it still wouldn't connect.
Gear I used:
DX2 running Eclipse 2.0.4
Built in tethering/hotspot
IP Webcam
Laptop running Ubuntu
FireFox browser

So used the app that turns your phone into an IP camera?
Im trying to take an actual Ip camera and view it on a tablet, using the phone hotspot to get the camera online.

Connecting Vibrant to pc as usb webcam for skype calls, etc.

Hey everyone-
Before you say this just let me say that I've already tried the IP webcam app that acts a wireless webcam from your phone to pc. The app worked and I was able to see the stream from my phone in my browser, but I couldn't get it to display the stream in skype (although it did detect the webcam, the screen was just black. Anyway, I've been trying to figure out a way to connect my Vibrant to my PC via the usb cable and use it as a WIRED webcam, so that it would be picked up as an external webcam by windows. The only reason I prefer to go wired is because of the fact that I'm trying to get rid of any frame lag between when I speak/move and when the computer shows it, which I assume would be eliminated by a wired connection. If anyone has any ideas, let me know, thanks.
-Much ablidged,
any help please?
It wasn't working for me either
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Any help? Thnx again
I definitely would love to know the answer to this also, although I admit I did not search google for results. I just ran across your post and now I'm curious.

it may work as video out, but not strictly as hardware like a regular video cam. Meaning you will need the special cables and a capture card on the computer......
When you say it might work as video out, what do you mean exactly? I realize it may not pick it up as a usb webcam automatically, but is there any way to trick into thinking it is a wired webcam or something similar with a piece of software or something?

[Q] How to connect to a WIFI DVD player

Hello all,
I have been using my hd2 as a wifi router without issue with my desktop pc or my old macbook. I've even been able to watch netflix on them this way.
But I can't seem to get my Sony WIFI enabled dvd player to connect to the phone. The player sees the phone but will not connect. Any suggestions???
Thanks,
Scott

Does your Sony DVD Player support a ADHOC connection? The HD2 only uses a ADHOC connection when using it for a WiFi Router.
ADHOC is a computer to computer connection so it may not support this type of connection.
If you find out it does not support ADHOC, then there might be a work around. It will be a little bit of a pian in the rear but hey it is a work around. If you have a USB port or a Eithernet port on your Sony DVD player you can use your laptop to connect to the DVD player either via USB cable or Eithernet cable and select allow other computers to access the internet via your laptop and then set the connection up on your DVD player and you will have internet access. Sony PlayStation 3 owners have to do this to use the WiFi of a HD2 as it does not support ADHOC connections. With your DVD player being Sony I bet it is the same.
Thank you
You were right, it did not support the ADHOC. It took me a little while but I got it working.
Thank you so much, I really like using all of my unlimited-as slow as it might be at times.

USE as USB Webcam

Hi.
Can I use my rooted Motorola RAZR as an USB webcam?
I am not sure about using it as a USB Camera, however, I do know that you can use it as an IP Webcam by installing this from Google Play!
I currently am using an old HTC Incredible for this very purpose! It works over WiFi, then I have port forwarding configured on my router so me and my wife can view it on our Smartphones from anywhere via WiFi or internet!

Force data connection via LTE rather than connected wifi (g850a so no root for me)

I'm curious about being able to force my phone to use it's LTE data connection rather than a wifi network that it's connected to.
Here's why:
In my car, I have a head unit with a chromecast input through the hdmi port in the back. I put the chromecast there specifically to cast my phone's screen onto the head unit. Chromecast's screencasting works PERFECTLY for this purpose and I'm super happy with the performance
The problem comes in when I get to the fact that the chromecast can't cast my screen without an active internet connection. The dongle needs to download the casting app each time it starts, apparently.
My plan is to purchase a freedompop hotspot and go for the free 500mb a month plan, as the casting software for the chromecast is very small. The LTE connection on my phone is not an option because i'm not able to root, as well as whatever complications would arise from being the device broadcasting a network that it has to connect to.
What I'm trying to avoid is allowing my phone to consume data over the wifi network that it will have to connect to on order to cast its screen to the chromecast and my head unit.
I'm open to other creative solutions if you have any ideas. Miracast was an option, but after attempting to use a roku stick for that purpose, i've found that miracast and the Alpha aren't really good friends yet. If anybody knows of a miracast dongle that works well with the alpha, please share!
