err, start updatING.. English is my first language, I swear..
Does Amon Ra auto-update itself? My phone just randomly rebooted into recovery, and did the following (hand-typed, forgive the typos..)
finding update package
opening update package
installing update
copying fotaBoot to /data/system for customize reload
verifying current system
deleting specific files
removing unneeded files
patching system files
unpacking new files
symlinks and permissions
and now I'm back at the Amon Ra recovery window..
guess I'll reboot and see what explodes.
Sounds like you just got the OTA. It's not supposed to be able to flash via AmonRa ...
damnit.. just lost root.. PITA.

One would think.. but it did, not even an error message to be found (though it wasn't really doing verbose output).
oh well.. root is back, all is well.. strange stuff.
Looks you got updated except for the radios, since you were still locked.
Also, if you have Amon Ra you can always get root back by installing su in its developer menu.

It will flash. It doesn't care what recovery, it just cares about the files it is going to update.

Everything i read said ota's would fail without stock recovery
I've seen people talking about it here that where just stock rooted with amon ra as recovery and it went through. Mine didn't since I had some bloat frozen.
Anyone successfully install ota with cwm or just amonra?

The OP had Amon Ra and the OTA installed. However, looks like the radios didn't update. Whether that was due to Amon Ra or the fact that the phone was unlocked I don't know.
Unless the update did something, or somehow it got re-locked without me doing it, the phone was unlocked. I unlocked it less than 5 minutes after I unboxed it from VZW.

I apologize for reviving this topic, but in the exact situation here: unlocked & flashed AmonRa 3.15 on my stock Rezound.
OTA applied through AmonRa, radios did not update, and root was removed.
I'm stumped on what I need to do next. How would I update the radios? What's needed to re-root?
Thanks!

Re-do the steps you followed to root it again if you are running the stock rom, my guess is you got the GB patch, not something newer, therefore your radios wouldn't be updated I believe.

Thanks! I needed this clarification since I was under the impression that they should have updated.
Rerooted just fine using the SuperSU.zip from the All-In-One Kit.

I'm not sure if it will update hboot or not. I would assume not, but I'm not sure. What version are you on? And I'm not sure if it technically kills root, but I forgot to flash Superuser after flashing the custom recovery, then upon returning to my phone, Titanium Backup didn't recognize my phone as root. I just had to flash su again and problem solved.
I was on hboot 1.5, unlocked my phone a couple months ago via HTCDev (it keeps it s-on), and then flashed a custom recovery (never flashed a custom ROM or kernel or anything).
You can follow the steps in that thread, but basically, to get the update, I had to flash the stock recovery, install the OTA update, then flash twrp and su again to get my custom recovery back and retain root. This worked for me.

I had the same question as you. Here is what I did....
1) Did nandroid back up. Titanium backup
2)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21374142&postcount=131
Downloaded and installed AIO zip via bootlader
3)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443592
Downloaded: FULL Boot.img - stock_2.6.35.13-g27701_insecurebootimg.zip MD5 4226efeb9439e9b6fbb1b52bbd9cd7ee (insecure boot.img and modules. Will replace your current ramdisk) - http://www.multiupload.com/0WEVDGZ5HX -
Download: Stock odex + su + busybox (boot.img is completely stock, this is as close to stock with root as possible. you will need to turn on usbdebugging or flash insecure boot.img below. Thanks xhaus for updater script): Shooter_2.17.651.5_odexed_rooted-signed.zip MD5 4081d9ee14b56001e3313f4c9f8c46e4 Mirror1: http://www.multiupload.com/KT9WTYGBZE
4) Installed the zips in that order via recovery
5) Rebooted phone and software, radios were all updated
Thanks, I will try these ideas when I have time. But the real question is, have you noticed any improvement after updating the software and radios and everything?

I literally just did this in the last hour, so I can't say for sure how the performance will increase. But from what I read, it seems to have a better overall increase in performance and battery.
Also, may make things easier to update to ICS when its released if I am more up to date on software and such
ALSO, do we know for certain whether this will upgrade the 1.4 hboot to 1.5 or not??
This does not change the hboot.
Thanks Kart, but you only have one post here under that usename
Can someone else confirm that taking the OTA does not mess with the hboot?
Thanks.

Its only been a day since the update, but my phone feels a little faster. My battery also seems to be improved. I've been off the charger for about 6 hours and only down to about 93% battery. Normally I am at about 60-70% by now. I also noticed no drop in battery immediately after taking it off the charger.

I loaded the Leaked firmware for ICS on my rezound, then unlocked, installed Amon Ra 3.14, then rooted and installed Clean ICS 4.1 ROM.
After reinstalling all my apps and getting things set up, I went to do a nandroid recovery and it returned an error during the recovery both times I tried it. I looked over the log file and it seems that the error was that it was unable to mount the emmc partition. Any suggestions as to what the issue is?

It's a problem with 3.14 on the new firmware. I haven't myself used it to do a nand or anything, but I'm almost positive that 3.15 is out for our new HBoot. Gotta find it for you and I'll post it here.
EDIT: Found it. Try using this Amon Ra instead of the 3.14 since the mount points changed in the new leak.

Glad you got it figured out. If you don't mind, post your findings here in this thread if you use the new Amon Ra to run a nand. I might flash that over tonight if it's worth it.

Just pushed it via fastboot and it worked to perform a nand backup. Of course I haven't tried restoring it as I haven't had the need, but it at least finished the backup fine. I'd say it's worth loading...takes like 10 seconds to load it. If it doesn't work out, just revert to 3.14.
WasabiWa83 if you have run the leaked RUU, you need to update the mounts have changed. It also works if you haven't updated, but will probably be needed for the official ICS OTA when it gets here in the next six months.

Yeah, I'll be pushing it tonight. I haven't had a need for a nand, so I didn't really care. Before I flash a new ROM, though, I'll make sure I update so I can make a nand first.
Hey all, just received a replacement rezound under warranty due to the charge port being all muffed up, and of coarse the first thing was unlock via htcdev which worked fine.
Here is the issue.. when trying to flash amonra via fastboot or PH98IMG.zip in bootloader it won't flash. For fastboot it says "unknown error" and as a PH file in bootloader it says "parsing..." for a few seconds then disappears without flashing anything. I've re-downloaded and checked md5's and still get the same errors.
My last rezound was s-off and that whole process was quick and painless and I don't understand why the same procedure I used on my last rezound isn't working now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

indeed *** unlocked *** is displayed at the top on hboot. and ive tried "fastboot flash recovery (nameofrecovery.img) with nameofrecovery changed to what i have it saved as and no luck. even tried relocking and ruuing too just to make sure it wasnt the software messing everything up.
Can't remember but can you try to S-OFF first? (It's been so long, but I can't remember whether you have a custom recovery already on).
Ah, one other stupid thing.... have you tried a different sdcard?

I was thinking about the sd card being the issue but it installed an ruu via ph98img.zip perfectly fine bit its worth a shot. And on unlimited.io's site they say you need to be completely stock with root and as far as I know amonra is the only way to root on a stock ruu. I managed to s-off tho after using hasoon's tool to flash amonra. I'm now completely stock again after ruuing back to gb then accepting ota
so I'll try flashing amonra again and report back. Thank you for your help!

You can install any custom recovery and use it to flash SuperUser. The root option in Amon Ra doesn't usually work by itself anyway.

Oh ok thats good to know actually. just cant seem to install any custom recoveries lol. i chose to install amon ra 3.15 with hasoons tool and for some reason i have 3.06 installed.. dont know how or why but i do. tried to install 3.15 with his toolkit again and got the stupid error again. i dont know what to do at this point lol. never had this problem with the last rezound. i am s-off now but do not have the recovery i want installed.
should i try ruu'ing again and start fresh?
and for what its worth i do have the jb hboot installed just to see if that was the issue. had to use fastboot commands to install it so i dont think thats the issue. i think its the download for amonra 3.15 i have. if anyone has a personal copy of 3.15 that is confirmed working and is willing to share it itd be greatly appreciated.
To use the fastboot commands you must be unlocked. With the parsing error. That will sometimes happen if you have a file called "update.zip" on your sdcard. Try seeing if you have one of those files. If your HBOOT does say s-off. Flash the GB RUU. Just so you can verify everything has changed. and then restart with the ICS RUU then flash a recovery. This time not with that tool.

Since you're on the OTA ICS firmware, you should definitely NOT be running Amon Ra 3.06. You need to be on 3.15. If the md5's match what's on your sdcard and what's on the OP at that thread, it shouldn't be a bad download, but just in case, I loaded it up on my Dropbox and you can try the one here.
As far as alternate recoveries, while I was very impressed with TWRP, it is incapable of wiping boot, so that's a nonstarter. Admittedly, if Flyhalf solved that issue, I'd switch to it. As far as CWM Touch, that has issues with reading sdcard2, as of the last time I checked, or at least with respect to its interaction with various ROMs and their features. For me at least, having tried all of the Rezound recoveries, Amon Ra is my preferred choice.
just push AR manually instead of using the tool:
Unzip the file from the link listed below onto the root of the C drive on your PC, and it should create a folder called Android on the root of C.
1) open a cmd prompt and type " cd c:\Android " without quotes
2) boot to fastboot and make sure your USB is plugged into the pc and phone
3) type " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img " without the quotes
This should push the AR 3.15 to your device. I included AR 3.15 in the Android folder below.
the folder contains a txt file of a few other handy commands that i use. that txt file is for reference only
https://www.dropbox.com/s/aycfqc37tvkhbdl/Android12-14-2012_22+21+19.rar
I ended up flashing twrp and it worked great. Like a previous poster said if it could wipe boot it would be perfect. But it got the job done and am up and running again. Thank you all for your help!

Glad everything worked out for ya. Wiping boot can cause a lot of problems just sayin. So I debating on putting it back into TWRP. Just ask snuzzo in his kernel thread
I've been running into problems galore with all of the AOSP and AOKP ROM's I've tried and decided to go back to stock and try one of the Sense mods for a while. I RUU'ed to 3.14.605.12 and unlocked and installed a custom recovery but I can't get the superuser zip to flash, it just keeps failing. I've tried Amon Ra, which worked in the past, and TWRP. Is the latest RUU unrootable, even after HTC dev unlocking or am I just missing something stupid?
Did you try the one click root method?
Tried flashing that too and it fails.
I believe you need to use Super SU instead of superuser.

I need help, not sure which I have done wrong. Last night I rooted and put TWRP on my phone. Tried to flash a rom and it just errored out. Tried multiple roms. So I got it s-off. Same issue.
I have tried last 2 versions of TWRP. Then I put latest Philz on and still can't install. I ended up wiping everything to test but now i'm stuck with a phone and no OS. I've been able to use the adb sideload method but can't get them to install.
Tried 3 roms. Phone was latest OTA before I tried anything. I saw something about it having a separate partition but the latest Philz was supposed to account for that. HBoot is 2.09
Is there a certain version of recover I am supposed to be on? Or any other suggestions? Thank you

First, you should be a bit more specific about which Roms you're trying to flash and which version of TWRP you are trying. If your hboot is 2.09, you can't flash any Roms built for the new partition. But without more specific information, I doubt anyone can offer much help.

Good luck. To run the RUU, your bootloader must be relocked. You will remain S-off. Just unlock your bootloader afterwards at htcdev.com and install the TWRP built for the new partition. [emoji3]

The latest update wasn't released as a over-the-air update, hence the lack of a notification. Make sure you back up your internal storage, as the RUU will wipe it clean. Make sure you use Captain Throwbacks's TWRP 2.7.1.0b. Other versions of TWRP will not work properly with the new partition layout. Might want to look over the first few posts in the thread below for more info.
