On Desk Docks - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I've already gone through 3 different desk docks for the Note so I thought I'd let everyone in on what I've found.
I ordered this dock from Amazon when I preordered the phone amazon.com/GSI-Quality-Desktop-Charger-Data-Sync/dp/B006L9K0P4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1330122195&sr=8-5
DO NOT GET THIS DOCK, unless you want a night light or to be blinded all day at your desk. The 2 LEDs on the top ends are always on and super bright. Also no landscape or audio out.
On Friday when I got the phone I went to AT&T and bought their desk dock (the small portrait one in the attached pics).
It works just fine, if you have a super slim case you might be able to leave it on while in the dock, it also has a preamp audio out if you want to connect to a stereo.
I just got this dock amazon.com/Hyperion-Samsung-Battery-Compatible-Packaging/dp/B006QBKTCG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1330122195&sr=8-2 in the mail from Amazon and I think its what I've been looking for.
It won't hold your phone if you have a case on it and there is no audio out, but it will do portrait and landscape. There are no LEDs, it will charge a second battery, and it can do charging and connecting to your computer.
I also really like the snug fit and the cutouts for the volume rocker and speaker, depending on if you are in portrait or landscape.
Anyways just wanted to throw in my .02c and maybe help someone else make a decision on what dock to get. If you have any questions or want to see any other pics let me know.

I have the 2nd dock you have listed, got it from spiderfoot. It does have a tiny led that is very dim when charging the extra battery.
I'm really happy with it I just wish that my phone fit with the case on. Im thinking of modifying it slightly with a dremel

Hey, thanks for the mini review. Can you toss the phone in the 3rd dock and shoot some pix? I would like to see it in landscape mode.
Thanks

On the first dock, does it fit with a case on? I have the speck case, and I hope that it'll fit.

I just got that first dock in the mail today. I don't have a case but the fit is tight. I really doubt it will work with a case. So open carefully in case you need to return.
As far as the LED light, nothing a piece of electrical tape couldn't fix. Pretty good deal for 15 bucks and prime shipping in one day!
Edit: Looking again there is some daylight between the phone and the dock. A really thin case might fit!

Staying hopeful! The speck is pretty thin, but it's kind of hard, so I'm not sure if there's much room for play with it. I purchased one yesterday, and for $15, I can live with taking the case off every so often

Agreed!!!!! I work in automotive. It makes a big diffidence every little bit we can do. You wouldn't buy Volkswagen if you seen the lack of quality, lack of care, and thin sheet metal being used!!! Assembled in America is not built in America. We need to stop being dumb asses and start helping ourselves. A couple extra minutes and Pennies will find you a similar American made product.

I use the Samsung oem dock pictured in the first post and it works with the flip case on it. I don't have any other cases yet, so I haven't been able to try it with anything else.

It is almost impossible to use any of the really protective cases with a dock, is my conclusion. I am sick of taking my dremel to $30 cases. Excuse the rant.

They come here and sit in Apple's coffers. They have a ton of money they aren't reinvesting back into America.

You mean like Motorola based out of libertyville Illinois and doesn't chew out massive profits like apple? I buy my products based on quality not on where its made. If you want authentic Italian you don't go to Chinatown.

The hyperion dock/charger is compatible with the sgh-i717?

Yes. There are no external differences between the various noted that interfere with accessories other than screen protectors.

I ordered the same dock from Spiderfoot a couple weeks ago without checking out the forums first. It should be here this week. I also have an Anymode bumper case coming in this week so I'll need to modify the dock to fit it.
Have you modified your dock yet? If so, do you have any pointers before I start cutting into it? I realize it's not rocket science but sometimes after you get done with a small project you realize you should've went about it in a different way.

[REVIEW] EVO 3D - iGrip Car Dock, HTC Car Upgrade Kit, HTC OEM Silicone Smerge Case

Here's my little review of the iGrip Car Dock, HTC Car Upgrade Kit, HTC OEM Silicone Smerge Case!
EDIT: I added some pros and cons to the car docks, some things I experienced on my way to work this morning.

HTC Car Upgrade Kit
Contents: Car Upgrade Kit, USB cable, dual USB port car charger, round sticky pad for mounting on a dash.
Pros:
- Designed specifically for the EVO 3D
- Little vibration when driving
- includes the USB cable and dual USB port car charger
- Can be rotated from portrait to landscape mode easily
Cons:
- Price tag (59.99)
- Doesn't rotate 360 degrees both directions (one way rotates farther then the other)
- Phone will not fit in the dock with ANY case on
iGrip Car Dock (some of these pics are dark, my apologies)
Contents: iGrip Car Dock, sticky pad for dashboard mounting, little hook to hold up a charger when plugged into the dock
Pros:
- Works with a case installed! (Excluding cases like the Defender, which are big and bulky) There's an insert that can be removed to allow for the cases, a nice feature
- Price (There's a thread here where you can order one for just over $26 shipped, but they retail for $39.99)
- Sturdy
- Extends closer to the driver when mounted because the arm is longer. I find this beneficial when driving, you don't have to reach so far forward to touch the screen.
- Can be rotated 360 degrees from both directions, just loosen the know behind the dock.
Cons:
- There's a little more vibration than the official HTC dock
- Doesn't come with any form of car charger
- Can't be easily rotated while driving, due to the knob you need to loosen up in the back before you can rotate the dock, and then tighten up the knob.
Side-by-side:
Between the two, I'm keeping the iGrip and returning the HTC dock. It's all plastic yes, but a very good product, also because it can be used with a case (see below)
HTC OEM Silicone Smerge Case
I love this case. It's not made to withstand any kind of a drop (I don't think, and I'm not going to find out! ) It will protect the phone from getting scuffed up and scratched up. It does attract a little lint, but I think all cases do (due to crevices they create around the phone)
Nice review. Looks like I made a good choice going with the iGrip dock.
Good stuff. The iGrip looks like the one.
Yeah the iGrip is really designed well. The only thing that's not as good as the official dock is the slightly more vibration in the dock when driving down the road, I assume that's because the neck on it is longer and it's harder to keep it still.

I had the HTC one for my OG EVO. I thought it was a great product. Only annoyance was that I had to remove my Barely There case.
When I bought the 3vo, the only docks that Sprint had in stock were the iGrips. Since, previously, Sprint had only carried the HTC model, I figured there might not be one for this phone, so I bought the iGrip.
I have to say, I like the iGrip a lot more. My phone fits beautifully with the Barely There case on it, and, I agree, it does extend out further, which I appreciate. I also like that it doesn't readjust easily. I have it set where I want it, securely tightened down, and I don't want it to move.
I will also agree that it does vibrate a little more than the HTC model did for me, but it's not problematic.

Yeah I had the HTC dock for my OG EVO too, and I liked it a lot more than the one for the EVO 3D and I still have it.
I'm selling my EG EVO (rooted) soon along with the dock and seidio 3500 mah battery.
I've just gotten the iGear dock because I was under the mistaken impression it was the "official" HTC car dock for the EVO 3D. I have to say I really don't like it nearly as much as the OEM HTC dock for my EVO. It wobbles a bit and can't be positioned nearly as articulately as the OEM EVO dock.
I'm also finding that when docked, the desktop doesn't move into landscape mode. Apps and pages that support landscape work fine, but the main sense UI and app drawer don't. I thought I recalled a dock orientation setting but I can't seem to find it. Am I just going nuts?
I'm seriously considering getting the OEM dock then taking this guy back. Maybe if the 'hinge' behind the ball/socket actually articulated, I could see keeping it. I don't use a case either, so that's not really a plus for me.

The car mode goes into landscape mode when it's docked. I don't think the actual home-screen on the phone goes into landscape mode, I believe that was only on sense 2.0/2.1

Yes, the iGrip has clearance for the camera, not 3D though, as it blocks the second camera used to create the 3D.

Case that works for gtab

Found the Tagus Truss case for the Acer Iconia fits perfectly. Very nice leather and is able to prop it up on a table.

Hey thanks for the info.I was also wondering if anyone has tried a Motorola zoom case.It looks kinda close, but wasn't if would work or not.
The xoom is about 2 inches smaller so the cases dont work. I tried to put mine in a friends xoom case
How well does it stay in the notches when in an upright position and being used? I find my CLIP from ElectronicCrap doesn't hold the bottom of the gtablet well enough when it's in an upright position and the screen is being tapped. It drops out of the notch and falls to the bottom position. :-(
Its a very tight/ snug fit. The bottom of the gtab fits onto a pocket that is as wide as the unit. I have no fear of it coming out of this case.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Actually I meant does the tablet stay upright while set in one of the notches, not whether the tablet itself would fall out of the case when in this position. Based on the design I would assume so which is better then the CLIP case does. Just wanted to confirm. Thanks.

Thanks,
Got one!
I went to Best Buy and grabbed one. Price there was $39.99, but the G Tablet fits very nicely. I took some pictures (sorry for the low light).
The Gtab slides in there very snug and secure. The top left strap just falls in between the volume rocker. It's not too bad, you can still adjust vol up & down very easily. And that same strap falls in between the power button and the USB cover. You can stil access it just fine.
I love how the case feels. You can fold back the cover all the way back and just use the tablet straight on, or you can open it and place it in one of the 3 little slots to adjust viewing angle.
I like it, it's very comfortable to sit in bed in and use. The multiple angles allows you to have it on your lap very comfortably.

What about the charging port and the headphone jack? Are they accessible as well? I got the toshiba thrive case and i'm having to take it back since the ports were not accessible. I am thinking about picking this up instead, but I don't want to have to take the tab out of the case to charge it...
Thanks!

If you are going to pay that much, why not consider the clip case then, its officially made for the GTab and even allow docking while the tab is inside it.

I can't figure out how can you slide the tab in the dock with the case on. I mean its a "just fit" with only the tablet and dock, so when I tried with my own case the couple of mm's added thickness just made it impossible to dock the tablet.
Can you kindly post a pic with the tab docked while in the case ?

I got the targus case too and I am liking it. Yaa it is a little bulky, but it feels well made and fits the gtab gr8! I love the three angles I can prop it. It also has some serious cushioning, making me less nervous about damaging my tab.
Got it from BB for $35 after a 10% off coupon for labor day.
Picked up rooCASE leather folio from Amazon, and it fits pretty well with the exception of the opening for the power button.
I got a handy candy case for the ipad. Great for carrying, I wouldn't mind dropping it a few times in this case. It also has velcro grips that can be adusted for propping the gtab up. Not great but definitely not bad.

REVIEW: MoKo(TM) Premium Quality Slim-Fit Folio Cover Case with built-in Multi-Angle

Just got this in today.
It fits very snug. It is extremely thin and helps show off the Primes own thinness. All ports are fit correctly including the power port. This allows for charging while closed. The clasp on this is magnetic and fits very well. Does not effect sound.
It is EXTREMELY sturdy. The clasps around the Primes screen are very unobtrusive.

The magnetic clasp is to keep the folio closed I assume? Is it sturdy enough to not allow it to "flop open"?

Good deal. Thanks.
Thanks for the info, it is hard to tell from pictures.
You say the clasp is magnetic? I didn't want one that "attached" to the tablet, pulling everytime I opened.
And the side clips don't stick up?
I want minimal, I have the Ipad and the best feature is the magnetic, easy opening on. The worst is no flash and Itunes - ugh.
If these are so, I will order, I'm waiting to check and see if the tf101 case like the Ipad case will work. Its stretchy, velcros closed and very minimal.

its no super-magnet. Its a very small magnet with a small lip providing just enough stick. additionally there is no stitching there so its just a single piece of pleather around the clasp so there is no chance of damage to the top of the TFP.
the clips on the sides are very minimal. they barely protrude to the bezel.
got my poetic case today. it does not have cut out for the charger port. ok for $10 bucks.
i am waiting for case crown to enter the game...

that is exactly what they do, they order from 1 manufacturer in a China plant, and once they get an order of 1000, they stamp their logos on to it.
if you look around chinese website, they have the same ones without logos
they're very cheaply made, and i believe they get them in 100's to 1000's for 5-6$ a piece at most
going to stay away from all of these till better U.S quality ones come out
That's crazy. My wife has an iPad 2 with a Targus case that looks exactly like this. What is the build quality? Is it real leather or authentic pleather? =)

that is exactly what they do, they order from 1 manufacturer in a China plant, and once they get an order of 1000, they stamp their logos on to it.
if you look around chinese website, they have the same ones without logos
they're very cheaply made, and i believe they get them in 100's to 1000's for 5-6$ a piece at most
going to stay away from all of these till better U.S quality ones come out

The only difference is the charger port. I'd disagree about build quality but then again I have one in hand and you don't.
It's pleather. Sturdy and thin.

Can you do this with that Moko case? (from here: http://www.amazon.com/VIPERTEK-Transformer-Prime-TF201-Black/dp/B006OZTNIK)

the flap on the screen side can go either way. so... yes. looks like the only difference is the Moko is gray on the inside.

Which Poetic case did you get? I ordered this one yesterday from Amazon which looks similar to the MoKo case and seems to have the cut out for the charger port. If not, it's going back to Amazon and I'll order the MoKo version.
Is this case by any chance compatible with the keyboard dock?
Nope.

its funny how you think these are amazing quality type cases & i do have one for a regular transformer
try to look for cases for the ipad 2... look at how many quality builds there are for the ipad. i personally don't have an ipad so dont think for a sec i'm a fan of apple.
also just because they have proper positions for charge port/speaker outputs does not mean this is a good quality. Did you expect them to make a case that blocked all the ports?
Every single poetic/vertek/vipertek are just made out of cheap pleather.
They are good for its price, and i'm stating the fact that, there will be better design/quality cases for the prime in the coming months
Ugggg amazon dosent ship it to Canada any other website that sells this case?

Cooler Master TF300 Folio Cover Overview (56k warned!)

Hi all, wouldn't normally post a review of something like this, but I think this is a particularly nice case for the TF300 (tablet only).
Cooler Master are a great manufacturer of mainly PC parts, and when I noticed this on a non-english language site in a review it got me interested.
After a bit of googling, I found it on the Cooler Master Mobile EU site, and it was priced at a whopping €39.99 with €10 delivery! (it worked out at about £45).
Anyway, its available in Silver and Blue (but the blue looks black to me) and I went for the silver.
It is very much like an Apple (boo, hiss) smart cover except that there is no automatic sleep with the TF300. It has a strong magnetic closing, and I would be confident it wouldn't flap open in my bag. It doesn't add too much bulk to the tablet, and feels nice and sturdy. The flap cover feels like it will last a while, and it lets you place it in a couple of useful positions.
With the cover in place and closed, for whatever reason it feels great. I would seriously just walk around with the tablet in the case because of how nice it feels to hold. Really nice and tactile feel with the textured fibre finish, and soft touch plastic.
It is tablet only, but it pops out easy enough to attach to the dock.
I've attached some pics (sorry about quality, light wasn't great in my room), which show off the really nice finish and the carbon fibre texture of this. It is definitely a premium product, and I am happy to use this day to day.

Oh my god it's beautiful! Too bad it's very expensive for me. I would be way too expensive, with shipping to Turkey. Thanks for the review
Nice case

It's nice to see some cases for the tablet that are geared to non-dock users.
That is a gorgeous case.
You can order one from the Cooler Master website and ship to the US...but it'll cost you about $125 USD

it looks very beautiful on the tf300, i am also planning to get it but dunno if it would ship to hong kong, iv asked the CS if it would or not and the CS asked me for the zipcode of HK which we do not have a zipcode, i told the CS that we dun have such zipcode and the CS hasnt replied any of my questions since then, sigh.....

the CS of Cooler Master EU store is quite bad, sent email to them on friday but no reply until today, 3-4 days...acceptable? i dun think so
The item number for the silver and blue covers are:
C-AT3F-CTTF-BB (Dark Blue)
C-AT3F-CTTF-SS (Silver White)
With these I was able to find a local retailer for about €40 Euro or $53 USD with free shipping
Wow. That looks good. The problem is you will need to take it out of the case in order to dock it on the keyboard wouldn't you. Or is there some way to do that without removing it all?

I'm pretty sure this case isn't dock compatible and will need to be removed in order to attach the dock.

So am I. The annoying thing is that it easy to achieve with right shape/size cut out along the bottom (hinged) edge. I know because I took one of these from Amazon and cut it out with a craft knife. Not too bad as you can see from my review at that link, but still a bit more bulky and not as pretty as this one. I am not sure if you could do the cut out with this case, but I would not want to at £45, as opposed to the less than £10 I spent

Absolutely. This case is definitely not inexpensive. Still, it is one of the best looking I've seen for our tablet.

Actually having looked at the pictures on the Master Cooler website I wonder whether it may be usable with a dock. It appears that the bottom hinge of the front flap starts a a little way up the back rather than right at the bottom. Depending upon how far up it may be possible to still slip the dock on without removing the case. It only needs about 13mm or so from my experience with the cut out on my other case.
Could I ask the OP or anybody else to have a look please and see how far up the hinge does start. Or even better if they have a keyboard dock does it enable it to be used without removing the case??? If so I think I see some more money being spent!
Hmmm... if you don't get an answer in here you can always write the manufacturer.:good:

I just tired it and its doable but requites a bit of wiggling.
The back of the dock is a bit hard to press in between the tablet and the cover but it can be done.
Here is a few pictures:

Just a Simple Stand (I just bought one)

Not a dock, or a charger, just a cheap little stand for the desk or the table to prop the N3 up hands free.
Why can I find one? What are you guys using?
My favourite hobby always is to build them with whatever I find on my desk with sticky tape... (I know that's not much help).
There's a great thread on here (which I can't find at the moment, it would have been on the HD2 threads two years ago), about how a few small cuts to a credit card make a great portable stand.
Like this image, but there's much better versions on here somewhere.

I ended up ordering one of these, (mainly because of the adjustability and the rubber).
I'll let you folks know what I think of it when I get it.

^^^ that. Its pretty nifty. Wish there was a heavier duty version in plastic or metal though. And wish the arms folded out closer so it will hold my note3 in portrait mode. Only works in landscape. I use a straw or flat chopstick to hold in portrait.

It looks like you could put a Qi charger on that, or maybe fasten it to the back of the mesh, then you'd have a wireless charging stand.
