Didn't think the day would be here but with ADW EX Launcher I am not looking back. Every once in a while i will load a new launcher to see what is out there and I have always gone back to LPP.... This time it is different.
ADW Ex features the following...
-faster
-less buggy - whenever loading a new app i would have to restart lpp to see it in app draw. LPP would also get stuck in a funny view when going from landscape to portrait.
-the ability to have my livewallpaper as the drawer background with options to change font color of icons.
-multiple draw options
- swipe gestures, especially to bring up hidden dock bar that holds 7 icons.
-super large icons for the main dock bar
-just runs better and I believe takes up less memory then LPP.
Found an app, which i think is a rip off of LPP, it is called Colorize widgets, and it basically has all the LPP widgets, for all other launchers. With this I have all but one function missing from LPP...
Only thing missing is scrolling main dock to add more icons, and swipe gestures on dock icons to open up other applications.
I had a separate scroll dock in LPP for important direct dial icons... Instead I loaded folder organizer and made a special label with those contacts. Then I just put the label icon in my main dock and set it to LIST view with ICON and TEXT. So now when I click on the icon i get a nice big list to click on to call my important contacts.
There are still a few bugs with ADW especially with the Streak, but they will probably be ironed out in the next few days because it effects other larger devices...
not sure what is taking Fredrico C to come out with better features or that new re-written Launcherpro.. but this is now my primary option.
Its a cat and mouse game between the two giant launchers
Same thing happened with me after discovering ADW Ex!! Installed it, loved it and it was bye bye Launcher Pro Plus!! The only thing I really miss about LPP are the LP Widgets and the scrolling dock. Colorize is nice, but I still prefer the LP widgets over it.
Scrolling main dock and gesture shortcut dock icons for the win....
I wont be going back. I have found some alternatives that work for me to compensate.

I had tried the ADW free before, and I still went back to LPP. In fact, I have tried many of the free launchers out there, and LPP is the only one I found that I wanted to pay for. I still go back to it.
I haven't tried the pay version of ADW yet. How big are the differences between ADW free and pay?
My favorite thing in LP is being able to hide things from the drawer, such as things i have on my home screens. I tried adw and didnt see anywhere to do the same.

OK, so there is a way to hide apps in the drawer. Maybe this weekend I will go thru and set it all up and give it some fair time in trial.

If you still didn't try Go Launcher, Do it!
It has most of the ADW and LPP features and then some, for free.
Love the ability to organize app drawer in folders and the built-in task killer and history.
I am skeptical about the go team. Who are they and how do they make money? Are they chinese spies stealing data from our phones?

Are there a sticky thread or any thread that give the most useful apps for the Dell Streak? Have looked but didn't find any - maybe I missed?
Or you could try VLTlauncher... it's still in beta, but that doesn't matter cuz it's free and downloadable if you search for it within XDA. VLTlauncher is a launcher based on ADWlauncher Ex optimised for the Streak.

Not for streak... for tablets.
It has been over a week on adw and I fully uninstalled launcherpro.. totally stoked.

So these launchers seem to be more for editable drawer, correct? Ive got go, pro launcher, and adw and to me they feel less snappy than zeam. Most of the themes also seem to be icon packs more than anything. None of the themes I tried really feel to be extensively customized to feel different than stock launcher theme. Any suggestions for custom themes?

Which home screen app are you guys using? Im using ADW right now as it seems to offer the best tablet support but there is a problem with every launcher I have tried.
1) ADW EX: Some bug in setting wallpapers where all wallpapers are shifted down. No widgets like GoLauncher or LauncherPro
2) GoLauncher: My favourite launcher on my phone but no tablet support yet. Can't remove the dock bar (I know you can hide it) and some of the UI looks poofed up.
3) LauncherPro: Their app drawer is ugly as hell and has no customization.
Any good recommendations/solutions? Is it possible to port Go Widgets to ADW somehow?
xGary,
From the thread where people post their Prime Home Screenshots, it seems they solve this issue with MultiPicture Live Wallpaper.

Does it support the prime res?

I'm using Nova Launcher right now. Tried the ones listed above and it is true that none of them natively support ICS yet.
Nova is working perfectly 18hrs and going, even though it's in Beta still. It supports the native res of the Prime and it can resize widgets and adjust rows and columns of the home screen. My biggest surprise is Nova organizes you widgets as well, similar to appwidgetpicker does on the phone. I can access the widgets I want faster now.
Stock launcher the best. Works the best n fastest n won't have any issues. I have adx ex launcher but it messes up the wallpapers by having that bar run across the top.
Hello everybody,
Since the stock launcher can't hide app's, i have to look for another launcher.
I tried Laucher Pro, but that doesn't look like the stock launcher.
Next i tried Nova launcher, it was almost perfect, only the app and settings icon are next to each other, which is a bummer
There are others i didn't try yet.
So what launcher is everybody using.
And more important why that launcher, and not an other one?
I use ADW ex
None of the others seem to work right with tablets (unless I am missing one).

What is Stock launcher? I searched the market but can't find it!
It it possible to modify the stock launcher so that apps can be hidden?
I use Go Launcher on my Phone, amazing launcher, sadly the HD (tablet) version is nowhere near as good as the Phone version yet. It is in Beta version tho, and they are working fast on it, but for the time being is meh.
Tried almost all other Launchers that you posted there, and there was always something that I really hated from them, and most of them lagged badly when the Prime was in Eco Mode (Stock one does not lag at all, even with Live Wallpapers)
I found out that the one with best Performance in Eco Mode, and allowed to have better transition effects and such was ADW Launcher EX, Stock is still faster, and Im not 100% happy with the App drawer from ADW (Stock one rocks) but since I organized everything using the "HUBS philosophy" I rarely access the App drawer anymore
Some Widgets do not scroll correctly in ADW, if this happens to you, be sure to scroll using 2 fingers and not one (Not sure if it is a bug or feature). This does not happen with all scrollable widgets tho.

I love SPB Shell 3D and it works perfectly on both the TF101 and TF201.
Why I use it,
up to 16 home screens,
drag and drop to rearrange the home screens,
I like and use the specialized widgets ship with the launcher (wish they'd open up the API for those)
Carousel to move quickly from one home screen to a "far away" screen
It's not quite as customizable as ADW but I very much like the look and feel. The only real downside is the $15 price tag, and no free/trial version.

I've used sob mobile shell 3d on prime. I tested it out it is a really good launcher. I love the carousel and the customized widget pages they have that comes with the launcher. then add in the fact you can easily swap or move the different screens around is an added bonus. its a launcher like no other. I may eventually buy it down the road.
has it had any recent updates or does it get updated alot?

Its the stock launcher but much much more improved
Like the ICS stock browser? Then you shall use "ICS Browser+"
If you like the original ICS stock browser is ICS Browser+ proberly the best browser out the there. Its look like and work like the original browser but adds many handy extra functions. Notice that you can make panel quick controllers with up to three rings and edit them all, as you like !
If you haved use Dolphin Browser you proberly used some plug-ins . I was only missing Dolphin Google Translate plug-in. but with ICS Browser + I instead use Web Translator Pro. Just mark text and touch "share". Then you share with Web Translator and immediately you have the site in a new language.
By PC Magazine selected as one of "The 10 Tastiest Apps for Ice Cream Sandwich" Based on the stock ICS browser, this browser adds many handy extra functions:
* Auto text reflow after pinch to zoom * Option to create extra quick controls (with easy to use quick controls editor. Add up to 3 rings, with extra controls like bookmark page, close other tabs, share etc etc) * Possibility to set the User Agent string * Fine tune quick controls behavior * Option to use volume keys for scrolling * Home button on action bar for tablets * Gesture support. More and more functions will be added along the way.

So I looked around a little and didn't find a lot about this. What the hell was ASUS thinking when they decided the sizes of their widgets. Their mail widget for starters, the one that shows the about of unread mail, graphically takes up a 2x1 space, yet in actuality, its a 3x1 widget. The same goes for their date and weather widget, they take up more room than the actually widget does. Why? It's a waste of space. Has anyone gotten their hands dirty with this enough to trim the fat off them and put up the .apk for a download? Don't get me wrong they are some of they best looking widgets I've seen on any device, but with every step forward ASUS seems to be on on this tablet, they seem to have hit a brick wall so hard that it rebounds them 10 steps back from the competition.
Another thing, Myzine or whatever they call that behemoth of a widget doesn't work at all, It can be placed but as soon as I touch it, it crashes. WTF bro?

good points. I don't even use the ASUS battery widget anymore. I use the battery widget a person came up with here. it looks and performs way better than stock. plus you have a few options on how you want it to look. its in the themes and apps section. title is like modded Asus battery widget or something.
as for myzine, I don't use it. it looks like it will drain extra battery n use up ram in the background..lol. looks cool though. I wish it was customizable.
I will definitely look into that thank you. Has anyone gotten the Asus task app to play well with ADW launcher? Mine only shows the top 3 tasks.

That killed me too because I always use the Asus time/date, email, battery, and task manager widgets. I use Nova Launcher (Prime paid version) and I accidentally found a check box in Nova settings under the "check for updates" section. By default it only checks for the newest stable version ( the version in the Play Store ) but if you check the box, there's a newer beta version you can get and man is it sweet
The 2 major differences are the " jump to page x " ( like ADW/ hubs ) and the best thing ever...you can now overlap any and every widget with another widget. On top of that, if you overlap 2 widgets you can select " bring to front" or "send to back" for each widget so you can have either one on top or bottom. Basically, you can put a widget wherever you want, no matter how many other widgets you already have:laugh:
It's one of the coolest new features I've seen in a long time, and never really thought it was possible. Nova Prime is definitely worth the couple bucks, but I'm not sure if you need the paid version to get the newer "hidden" beta version. That feature changes everything, and should help with your problem:good

2nd on nova prime pro. Overlapping widgets is pretty boss esp when it comes to stock widgets.
Apex seems pretty similar i just liked nova better. Check both out, either is better than stock >.<
I'm currently in CM10 nighlty 09/04 using the Touchwiz UX launcher. This launcher typically displays the app name under the apps that are in the dock, which is currently not the case for me (see my screenshot below).
Does anyone knows how to get the app names to show under the apps that are located in the dock? I'm not sure if this is a problem from the launcher I flashed or from the CM10 code because the stock Trebuchet launcher also lacks that functionality.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
OK so I went back to CM9 and flashed the UX launcher we have under our theme section and sure enough, the names are showing under the dock icons. So I think it's safe to say that the fact they are not in CM10 is probably due to the Jelly Bean UX launcher port.
So my question now is, does anybody knows what needs to be modified in the launcher apk so that the app names can be displayed under the icon? Also, is there any plan for someone to port the s3 jelly bean launcher to the s2? If so that would most likely solve my issue at once.
Thanks!

So you can't figure out what 5 dock icons are without the names being displayed under them? Just curious about why its such a big deal.

Without the names, there is a lot of empty space under the icons as you can see from the screenshot, so it doesn't look as good. I know for a fact that TW UX comes with the labels under the apps that are in the dock, so i'd be nice to be able to have it the same way.
I solved my issue. It seems there's been some sort of corruption during all my flashing that eventually affected the TWUX launcher. I wiped and started from scratch and all is fine now.
Edit: The problem was not due to a corruption, but rather to the fact that I had reassigned the hardware keys and enabled the three-dot menu display. I guess when doing so, the launcher imagine that it's because on-screen buttons are present and thus some additional space is created.
