Razr maxx info requested - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi.
I have a Droid incredible since 1st week of Feb 2011. No problems and I like it ok. Is like to get a new phone but have couple questions. Is really appreciate some help please. So here goes.
1: What is the ppi on my incredible, first one, 3.7".
2: What is ppi on Razr maxx
3. What is the story with maxx bootloader locked? How does that affect roms and rooting?
4. Is razr maxx much of an upgrade over my HTC Droid incredible.
5: How is razr maxx radio signal strength? I tried Galaxy Nexus which said 3g more then 4G at my home and even lost connection a few times. HTC Rezound had good mostly 4G at my home.
6: What does the modding community look like for razr maxx?
Thanks a lot.

Just by looking at the specs of each you can get an idea of the difference.
http://smartphones.findthebest.com/compare/8-161/HTC-DROID-Incredible-vs-Motorola-DROID-RAZR
Just looking at the basic specs you can see the razr has
4g lte
dual core
better battery
better screen
more memory
ability to tether
As far as signal all depends on where you live. On my Charge I got better reception in my house compared to the Razr. Several factors can contribute to your signal. Being a locked boot loader can limit some of the things done but still
can get by and do some decent things. As far as Roms go as I stated in another thread you could always use the stock rooted Rom and depending on what you want do some things yourself.

The specs on findthebest were wrong in many cases. And only a smart rating of 41? Come on. The Maxx is the most awesome phone out there.
1. PPI - don't know. Let google be your friend.
2. PPI on Razr - once again let google be your friend.
3. As for the bootloader being locked you can still root your Razr Maxx (which I did) but you can't install custom ROMs. With it rooted you can still freeze or uninstall useless apps using Titanium Backup and a few other customizations but that's about it.
4. Differences - 4G LTE. Wow! Hold on to your socks if you're in an LTE coverage area. Blazing fast. And great building penetration. Just rocks. Battery - The Maxx's battery last all day and then some. I streamed 4 hours of Pandora, made a couple of hours worth of phone calls, surfed for about an hour, and customized the ADW launcher for 20 minutes. After being on battery for 19 hours I still had 50% left!
5. The signal strength is great. The sound clarity is one I've never seen in a cell phone. The microphone has great noise cancelling as well. The wifi radio isn't the best I've seen though. Granted my router is in the worst possible place but I've gotten better reception on my old HTC Evo 3D than on the Maxx. But not enough to make me ding the phone even a half star in a review.
6. You can flash custom ROMs if you do the Bootloader Safestrap thing. I'm pretty happy with my phone the way it is so I don't think I need to do any sort of ROM flashing until something great happens with ROMs.
What attracted me the most to the Maxx was the battery. In the store they have them so tied down it is almost impossible to really use the phone as you would in real life. I was scared I wouldn't like it or the VZ coverage as I was coming from Sprint and was comfortable with both my Evo 3D and the coverage. But I haven't regretted getting the Maxx one bit. I have no problem with the pentile display that so many online reviewers are complaining about. The screen is awesome.

should be able to install custom rom.. but not able to install custom kernel.. correct me if i wrong

Coming from the HTC Thunderbolt, I have had the Maxx for a week and no regrets. I flashed my Tbolt a hundred times, yes total flashaholic, and doubt I will flash the Maxx since it is awesome. That's bull but you get my point. Battery takes some getting used to since I still think I need chargers everywhere and with the maxx you don't. Totally worth it.

1: What is the ppi on my incredible, first one, 3.7".
252 PPI
2: What is ppi on Razr maxx
256 PPI
3. What is the story with maxx bootloader locked? How does that affect roms and rooting?
Yes the bootloader is locked, but the phone is rooted. What this means is you are able to fully flash new ROM's, but are not able to flash new kernels, radios, and splash screens.
4. Is razr maxx much of an upgrade over my HTC Droid incredible.
dINC vs MAXX
- 512MB vs 1024MB of RAM
- very slow GPU vs fast GPU
- single core 1GHz and older generation snapdragon vs dual core 1.2 newer generation snapdragon
- 3.7" screen vs 4.3" screen (it's not bulky and can fit in jean pockets fine)
- 1300 mAh vs 3300 mAh (with combination of more battery efficient processor, and screen, it lasts much longer)
- 8GB internal vs 16GB internal
- TV out (eww) vs HDMI out
- 720p max recording vs 1080p max recording
- no front camera vs front camera
- 2.1 Bluetooth vs 4.0 Bluetooth
- dINC poorly runs rooted ICS vs MAXX will be getting ICS within weeks-months and has nearly identical hardware to the Galaxy Nexus, so ICS should run flawless (ICS is currently a ROM available for flashing, but it still has some bugs to be worked out)
- glass that has broken on my dINC vs Gorilla glass
- MAXX also has 2 other hardware features that help the GPS lock quicker and more accurately.
- MAXX is splash resistant (coated with water repellent)
- probably more, but I give up on trying to remember.
5: How is razr maxx radio signal strength? I tried Galaxy Nexus which said 3g more then 4G at my home and even lost connection a few times. HTC Rezound had good mostly 4G at my home.
The MAXX's 1x and 3G radio is very strong. Motorolla has always had great 1x and 3G radios and a big difference compared to my HTC dINC or my sisters dumbphone.
LTE is good as well, but if it gets a weak signal then it won't try to keep it (while draining more battery), it'll just drop it for 3G.
6: What does the modding community look like for razr maxx?
Sadly, not very well. The locked bootloader and the fact that Motorola has angered many hard core DEVs have made this possible
There is still hope our bootloader will get unlocked, so that idea isn't totally dead.

ah thanks, I wrote it up from the top of my head. For some reason I was thinking snapdragon :/

Thanks everyone.
I got the Rezound I think the day after I posted this question. No one here, not one, had the maxx. Otherwise I was probably going to get it.

Well you can always return the Rezound, and get the MAXX. I love the MAXX. I had the RAZR only thing wrong with it was the battery. Enter the MAXX, best phone ever.

True except I have returned 5 or 6 phones already in the last 2 weeks.
I'm not sure how the Maxx is currently the best when the screen is only qhd. I know screen doesn't totally make a phone. Rezound has much better screen res wise but anyway. I did like the Maxx screen over my incredible.

The MAXX has a Super Amoled Advanced screen. Better than the qHD screens found in the Bionic, Droid 3 & 4 and Droid X2.
I took pix in store at VZW with both the Rezound and the RAZR and didn't really see a difference. The Rezound felt clunky in my hand. Yes, the RAZR is wide, but I went with Moto's build quality. Their phones just feel more solid. But that's just personal preference.
You can't really go wrong with the Rezound, it is unlockable now. The dev community should start to really embrace it more.
I'm sure you'll be happy with the Rezound. I'm happy with my RAZR MAXX.

[Q] RAZR MAXX - Opinions?

Okay, looking to catch some advice from any of you RAZR MAXX or OG RAZR owners.
I'm contemplating throwing down the $300 for a RAZR MAXX, either through this deal somehow or by adding a line.
I guess, before I jump the gun (like I did with the D3), what are your general opinions with the Motorola Droid RAZR family compared to other phones you may have had or tried in the past. As far as I can tell with the 4G technology and battery capacity, the RAZR MAXX would land itself amongst the top-of-the-line smartphones offered by Verizon at the moment. I know some better phones will arrive soon, as they always do - but I would like to get your opinions and/or impressions of this phone in general.
Despite the locked bootloader, I've always loved the build quality of Motorola products. Saw the RAZR for the first time today and thought the AMOLED screen was nice and vibrant against my D3 in comparison.
1. - How does the screen really compare to others? I noticed the HTC Rezound has a 720p screen, but would that be worth it over the qHD AMOLED? I've also heard about tinting issues and black dots and so forth with earlier builds - would that be a worry now?
A few things about my D3 that disappoint - Lack of 4G, waiting for websites to load and such is almost a pain especially when I need something fast. I will be seeing plenty of 4G areas soon in my career (USAF) and I am grandfathered into the UNLIMITED data plan that I plan to switch the phone to on my primary line.
2. - How is the 4G working on the RAZR? I anticipate getting the MAXX, so battery life wont be an issue. My condolences go to those who jumped with the OG RAZR and got less than they expected in this sense.
Another big change for me would be jumping from the physical keyboard to the touch screen. I'm beginning to feel 'claustrophobic' with only a 4" screen on the D3 and kind of want a bigger screen.
3. - Can anyone provide their opinions about the on-screen typing? Larger screen size? Does it work well? I would hope auto correct would make it a bit easier to speed through texting and other typing scenarios?
Working with the D3 and only 512MB of memory, even with the dual-core 1 GHz processor I still experienced some lag between homescreens with widgets, the app drawer, etc. This sometimes interfered with my OCD a bit and I would expect butter-smooth performance with this kind of hardware.
4. - With the droid RAZR, how does the performance compare for any of you? Any lag with stock-live wallpaper? Motoblur? The stock phone in the VZW store seemed very smooth and up-to-par. I would like your opinions on this though.
So aside from those questions, anything else anyone would like to offer? Comparisons to other products? Stories of switching from the Nexus or Rezound to the RAZR? I know there are reviews already written that are out there, but those are usually one-person reviews. All of you here have your opinions, and I'd like you to share them - good or bad, the perks and the setbacks.
Thanks a bunch in advanced! I know this OP is long and detailed, but I'm sure with responses this thread could be helpful to more than just me.
1. For me, I found the screen really good. Colors were very vibrant. The black dots are apparently a part of the manufacturing process, according to the Moto sales associate I talked to. However, you don't notice it on normal usage. I've only actually seen it when I'm using the phone in a very dark room, with black background and low brightness (0%).
2. No idea for 4G, my country doesn't have that at the moment.
3. The keyboard is good, but I use Swype. It's the default input method. It's awesome. I can practically text without looking at the screen.
4. The performance is great. There's a slight bit of lag, but I'm using 65.1.12.XT910.PSHAsiaRetail.en.03. When I flashed to a different system version, the lag disappeared. Not sure if it's just me though.
Honestly, I had my doubts about buying the Razr at first. It was a tough choice between this, S2 or waiting for the Nexus. But I can say I'm satisfied with it. Only complain is the battery life, but since you're getting the Maxx, can say that it's a non-issue.
1.) I have an OG Razr, and I have to say that I'm very happy with the screen. It is "only" qHD but it's plenty sharp for reading text and watching movies. The colors are very vibrant, though reds can be a little too intense, imo. The little black dots do happen, sadly--but are only visible in conditions I would characterize as being outside of normal use (e.g. in the dark, with no lights on, displaying images that are pretty much all black). The yellowish tint that some users are reporting happens too, at low brightness settings, but I find that it's actually easier on my eyes than super whites for all the reading I do on my Razr. Check one out in-store and see if it's something that bothers you.
2.) 4G is great in my area, 30mb down and 20 up is pretty normal for me. 4G does tend to be a bit of a battery hog in my experience, but the humongous battery on the maxx should make that a non-issue.
3.) I actually ended up ditching the stock keyboard for Thumb Keyboard, and it works fairly well for a touch screen keyboard. I wouldn't recommend it for hammering out anything really long--I have a hard time not making mistakes when I type. The limiting factor for me is the width of the screen in portrait--it works plenty well in landscape but the amount of text that's viewable isn't enough for me. It should be fine for for texts and short emails.
4.) Performance is great. I run ADW in place of the moto launcher, have about 10 widgets running my home screens, and use pixel rain live wallpaper--I don't notice any lag, it's almost iPhone-like in its smoothness. It takes a little while for all of the widgets load up from the device being powered off, but once everything is up it's very smooth.
One of my friends (iPhone user) was playing around with my Razr and our other friend's GNex and he commented that my Razr--with ADW, widgets, and live wallpaper--felt smoother than the GNex with stock launcher, no live wallpaper, and just a couple widgets. Don't take that as gospel, by any means, but being that I was expecting to hear the opposite, it was a surprising observation.
My only quibble (minor) with the Razr is that the camera could be better. I don't know if it's the software, sensor, or both, but I feel like the camera on my iPhone 3GS actually took better pictures. It seems to have a bit of a hard time in low and artificial light. Again, try it out in store and see what you think.
All in all, I'm really very happy with my Razr. If you wind up getting one too I hope you're as happy with yours as I am with mine Hope this has been helpful!

Og razr owner here.
1- I have not ever had an issue with the screen. It's a beautiful screen. Even side by side with the rezound and nexus you can't notice a major difference. I also believe that the screen issues were limited to the first batches of razrs.
2- The larger screen is great. You will get used to the on screen keyboard. If you don't like the stock keyboard there are countless different keyboard apps in the market.
3- 4g is amazing. No other word describes it. I average around 20-25mbps down and have gotten as high as 44 down.
4- The phone is very fast even in stock form. Even the stock browser is very snappy. Of course i don't use the stock browser anymore i prefer Dolphin, but you may prefer a different browser.
The jump from 512mb of RAM to 1gig will put a smile on your face. Live wallpapers and widgets flow seemlessly with no lag.
I returned a nexus for the Razr I have now, so that should tell you how i feel about the comparsion between those devices. My brother had a rezound, but also now owns a razr.
The razr is the best device I have ever owned.
If you spring for the Razr Maxx you will be getting all the goodness of the razr with twice the battery. I get great battery life out of my og razr, so the maxx should get amazing battery life.
You can't go wrong with either the og razr or the maxx. I think once you get one you won't want to put it down.
Also the expandable memory is great. I just ordered a class 6 32gig Sandisk SD card. I still had plenty of room on the 16gig it came with but i found a great deal on the class 6 32 gig card so I just went ahead and got it. Class 6 is more than capable enough for me.
Good luck with your choice!

I have a RAZR Maxx, and it's pretty snappy. The screen is great, and I'm not concerned about the lack of 720P HD. The battery life is spectacular, though it's still a little early to get some finite numbers on how long it lasts as it really depends on if you're on wifi, 3G, or 4G along with your usage style. I'm in Saint Louis, which was one of the first round of 4G roll-out cities, and my 4G coverage is pretty wide. I had a Thunderbolt previously as it was the only 4G phone available at first, but this is night and day better as far as battery life. I mostly kept 4G shut off on my Thunderbolt, and on the RAZR I haven't messed with it. No reason to.
The only issues I have are the stock Android FB app seems slow to start/load. Maybe it's just me. I rooted it for the wifi tether, and although it's only been a couple of days, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Thanks for these reviews. I'm considering exchanging my Nexus for a Razr Maxx. Anyone bummed about the smaller screen on the Maxx (4.65 Gnex vs 4.3 razr)?
Does it make typing/swyping in portrait mode more difficult?
Anyone ported ICS to the Razr with full functionality and loving it?
I received my new Razr Maxx on Monday and while I'm not a user of your comparison models I would love to offer some feedback.
1. I really like this phone. It's light, thin, sturdy, very fast. The screen is bright an the colors are crisp.
2. I use swype as my input method but I've noticed that if you turn the phone on it's side the soft keyboard buttons are very large and should be ideal for normal touch typing.
3. I work in downtown Sacramento and live in a suburb. Downtown I'm getting five bar 4G consistently even when I'm in an interior conference room.
4. Downloaded the Speed Test application and I'm consistently getting 25M on the download and 10M on the upload.
5. Battery life seems to be really, really good. Phone arrived half charged and I didn't plug it in until at least 24 hours later after doing all my setup and app downloading.
However it does seem to take a long time to charge which is probably due to the bigger battery.
Hope this helps.

Very cool, thanks. Looks like i can easily root the maxx and use wifi tether and titanium backup. Biggest advantages of rooting, imho.
What are the real downsides to a locked bootloader? Inable to flash kernels? Radios? Whats the downside?

I exchanged my Gnex and now own a RMaxx,,,, and glad I did. You give up a little of width in the functional screen real estate (both are 4.3), but the Maxx Super AMOLED is no slouch (its really nice).
The superstar is the battery, and the overall build quality. The Maxx feels 1000 times more polished and solid.
There is some great custom ROM development going on at droidrzr.com. I rooted my device and had a droidth3ory rom within an hour of getting home.
Super cool! Now be honest... does your rooted Maxx feel faster or slower than your old Gnex?
My hypothesis: I sometimes wonder if the Gnex animations/transitions lag a little bit bc the device is pushing so many pixels.
My last device was a Sprint Galaxy S2 Epic Touch, super smooth UI/transitions, low pixel density...
Edit: Can anyone confirm whether GPS on the Razr will lock on when in Airplane mode? I have Backcountry Navigator app that requires this functionality.
THANKS ALL!

I was running Th30ry's rom on the Gnex and now on the Maxx. The Maxx is blazing fast. I have it am running GoLauncher and GoLocker with ICS theme.

Should i stay or Should i go! the eternal question!

Hi razr guys!
I'm kinda confused right now because of the bootloader locked.
I'm asking myself if i should exchange my RAZR for a NEXUS
i watch few comparaison between both, and ok nexus have native ICS and will for sure upgraded first if a new android version is released.
Now the right question is, Does the locked bootloader of my RAZR is enough to change it?
If i take a deep breath and think, i found the RAZR way much sexy than NEXUS, performance are similar, camera is better, screen resolution is lower.
But hey, we already have ICS even with the locked bootloader, and 2 custom rom on Gingerbread.
And i heard many bug about strenght signal on the nexus.
That's why i'm confused and i'd like to have your opinion on this question.
I really hope motorola will unlock our bootloader, but if they dont is a good reason to throw my razr away?
Thanks!
If modding is more important to you and you are obsessed with an unlocked bootloader, then yes by all means you should "go"
If I could I would go. Motorola is not a company that I want to be associated with.
Amatuer flasher here. Considering coming to Razr Maxx by exchanging my Nexus. Battery life is bothering me. ICS not that different/impressive.
Seems like with a locked bootloader on the Razr, you can still root, flash, etc... What are you missing out on with a locked bootloader?
Thanks for indulging the noob questions...

The core thing isnt that the Phone, the Razr is bad without the locked BL. It wasnt the only argument for me to buy actually. But the way which is Motorola is going is the actually Problem which I see. For me Moto is dead and I will never buy any Product from them again ... Each other but none Motorola
I will wait 1 or 2 weeks.
Friend leave the waiting is the galaxy 3 thu esto i hope

I agree with others on this thread.
If you are hardcore about thoroughly customized ROMs and such, then a google experience device is the way to go.
But if you like solid build quality, performance, and long-lasting battery life - then the Maxx is just the thing for you.
Out of all the Motorola products I've owned, I contemplated between the RAZR Maxx, HTC Rezound, and the Galaxy Nexus. Spent two minutes with the Nexus and dropped it like a hot potato. Eventually made up my mind to go with the Maxx, and I'm thoroughly satisfied.
Motorola's UI has improved, and performance on the Maxx is very good. You can still root, remove bloatware and such - but with the locked bootloader, you're stuck with the kernel provided by Moto's software. It cuts down on the extent of modifications that can be made, but in the end - its your choice.
If you decide to go with the Nexus, I would heavily suggest waiting a bit, because there is suppose to be an updated "2.0" sorta-speak coming out soon. The current Nexus has its perks, but the radios aren't up to quality of Motorola and HTC.
I had the galaxy nexus and now have the maxx. I dropped calls and battery life was horrid on the gnex. I love ICS but also love battery life. The only reason I rooted the nexus was to get better battery life and faster 3-4g handoff. These are things I don't have to worry about with the maxx. Plus, I don't have any battery saver things on my maxx and last two whole days with it. On LTE the entire time. It's amazing and will be even better with ICS.
I have currently a sgs2 i9100 with ics, a tmobile sgs2 and my razr and to tell you the truth i use my razr way more than the other two. Sure i would love ics in my razr, but i can wait it will come. Im running frazers 2.4 rom and its just speedy as hell so the bootloader thing is not getting to me as much as others and i am a hardcore copulsive flasher!! But theres no way i would give up my razr just so i can flash. I would rather pony up the extra cash and by the gnex too to cure my flashing habit, but by no means i would trade it. To me the razr is superior in reception, not to mention is the best freaking phone ive used for wifi tethering, i play ps3 without a single disconnect and i dont have the LTE version. Battery life is ok, on par with my other phones, screen is beautifull, no complaints here, spec wise the razr has an sd slot(cant live without it), camera is ok, not great but ok, cant complain about pictures taken, build quality on razr is top notch, the best ive owned, call quality and speaker sound quality are also top notch. For me the razr trully is probably the only real smartphone masterpiece that motorola has developed even if it has a locked bootloader.

I have both Original Razr and GNex now, GNex is way better.
1. Regarding Radio, everyone says the Moto radio is better, and I have the doubts.
I have both Razr and GNex laying at the same position at same time and press speedtest at same time. Testing like this for 20 times.
GNex's 4G speed beat Razr every time of this 20 tests. even displaying 1 bar in 4G while Razr displaying 3 bars.
I feel that it is a "tricky" in measuring the bars that give you the false connectivity. I do had many times when Razr showed 3 bars but the data did not kick in at all.
2. Regarding Battery. Yes, GNex can never beat Razr Maxx in this category. But easily beating Razr. The trick? custom kernel. On Fransco Kernel 15.1 and the phone is awesome. It costs 1% over night of 7 hours!!! Repeat after me, 1% overnight of 7 hours. of course no airplane mode etc.
3. Regarding build quality.
The immediate impression was Razr is way too sexy. But hey, it is a dust sucker. I have seen so much dust in the top of the screen where Motorola logo is (ironically!) and at the side bezel of the screen.
Yes, the Kelvar back is awesome. No competition of that, especially the back of GNex is push-ed on style.
But GNex has a removable battery.
These two were equal in my house, BEFORE MOTOROLA's recent bomb news.
So Now I am leaning to GNex.
Had a razr, loved it. Then I exchanged it for the nexus. I had the nexus for three days. After three days I returned the nexus and got my razr back. For me the razr had more pros going for it than the nexus. I can honestly say the razr is the best device I have ever owned.

I have owned the Nexus and the Rezound. Now I am using the Razr Maxx and I love it. It is much faster than either the Nexus or the Rezound! I have been a HTC Sense lover for quite some time now but with the Razr Maxx I feel satisfied for the first time. Hopefully it will save me money in the long run!

I love the razr. Its really fast and I love how thin it is. Even with the locked boot loader you can still have some great custom roms.

thanks for your feedback, now i'm more confused than before lol
i'm a flashmaniacs, my past desire hd could confirm you ^^. but i made a mistake in the past, i had a transformer and asus locked the bootloader, so i sold it because i was angry and a month after, some devs managed to unlock it, and now i have an A100(it's a good tablet but not like the transformer and with a locked bootloader also -_-)
as jiwengang said, the nexus have removable battery and custom kernel which increase battery life and performance i guess. But it doesn't have micro sd.
I'd love to have razr MAXX too, but i just bought the razr and the maxx isn't available in france. I'll try to test the nexus and make my own opinion (i thought about the NOTE but the big thing afraid me ).
Well i don't know if you say that in english, but in french i would say:
I have my ass between two chairs!
Lots of good insights here. Thanks everyone.

Razr/Maxx The Best Phone of 2011-2012

My friend bought a Iphone4S yesterday showed him my Razr running official ICS 4.04 , hes gonna return his phone for Razr Maxx when its out here in UK now
A lot of people will switch to Razr and Razt Maxx now ICS is here now
Can't wait for the official ics

Razr is not the best, because Razr Maxx is just one inch ahead of Razr.
After owning Razr/GNex/RazrMaxx this is my take.
Currently still owning both GNex and RazrMaxx
Iv had all the best android phones ,and an iphone4S but nothing compares to this phone it has the build quality that is the best iv seen , screen is great quality , even the built in speaker is real good quality sound , would give the Razr 9/10, Razr Maxx 9.5/10 because of ICS makes the big difference , Galaxy S2 7.5/10 , iphone 4S 7.5/10
I've owned just about every phone Verizon offers. Every phone has *something* I don't like. It's all about choosing the lesser of the evils. Apple is just too damn locked down. I will not own a stock Apple device and it really sucks that you have to stay behind in OTA's to keep jailbreak and if you accidentally accept an OTA or have to wipe for any reason you've pretty much lost JB for good. Even jailbroken it's limited, not to mention the small screen, and no free gps, and no 4G. I believe firmly that if the next Iphone doesn't have 4G, gps, and at least a slightly larger screen they're going to start losing business.
I had the Razr and wasn't pleased with it at all. The battery is par but you can't change it so you're constrained to a charger. I don't like Moto's locked bootloaders but it is really thin. So I picked up a Galaxy Nexus. That phone is perfect....except for battery life and no external sd slot. So when the Razr got the ICS leak I picked up a Maxx and updated it...and I haven't put it down since. Literally, this phone could go for days at a time on a full charge, which means I can go pretty much all day using the hell out of it, on constant 4G. At the moment, Razr Maxx is the undisputed champ of Verizon phones.

I had a galaxy S1 & S2 i did like the phones apart from the poor and cheap build quality , in your hand it felt like one of those toy phones you get from the local £1 shop , and speaker was poor compared to sound quality of Razr , only thing Samsung Galaxy S2 had better was the WIFI Direct option , Screen on Galaxy S2 was Super Amoled + , and Razr has Super Amoled Advanced , which has proved to be better in many different ways, The Razr/Maxx will still give the Quad Core phones like Galaxy S3 and HTX 1X a good run as quad is just a fad and not really required , all it does is drain battery even more on already power hungry smartphone devices, Look at Nokia Lumina 800 single core and it still kicks ass
i dont have a windows phone but from what most people in the trade and developers are saying that the next generation of Windows phones might take over top spot from Android in terms of OS user friendless , I hope not as i love Android
Having used many high end phones over many years I'd agree on build quality but that's not to say an issue, doing a screen comparison the razr has better clarity but seemed to loose definition, the power on razr is no where near sgsII even Sensation XE @ 1.5GHz comes no where near, been using razr for nearly week and yeah its a flagship device but on pure power user and being of ORD I'm slightly lost
It does look sexy though

To that I say bull****, but I agree with the rest. Screen matters too much for me to switch from my rezound to the razr maxx though. :3
rezound is whack and so is your opinion
Mod edit: No swearing on XDA in accordance with rules minors use the site.
I came from the rezound to the maxx. The rezound is a good phone. The screen is gorgeous. It is better than our panel in the maxx BUT I could hardly read my rezound w out cranking the brightness up. And its fat. I had the extended battery and actually liked everything about the rezound except the thickness and couldn't read it so well in bright light unless I cranked it up.
I have the 84 leak on my maxx and it is great! The little things about my maxx are fine. The screen is good bit not amazing. The battery is amazing.
All phones have strong points and weak points. Best? Top 5. There are many good choices.
Only thing missing is ICS to make the RAZR perfect (yes I know there is a leak out there but I dont want any t-mobile branded **** so I'll just wait for the official release)

I used to be obsessed with reading about every new phone being released, but then I got my RAZR Maxx. This thing is ridiculously great, especially with the ICS leak.

New RAZR owner coming from Galaxy Nexus....

what can I expect? I suffered unfortunately through 3 replacement phones...my original phone overheated and had touchscreen issues, the 1st replacement had no microphone, the second replacement had bad data, and this last one was great, strong data, everything worked....until three weeks later, it won't charge anymore (luckily i have 2 batteries and an external charger) and my volume rocker crapped out on me...doesn''t say much about the refurbed units VZW is using in their replacement program...so I was offered a Droid RAZR MAXX for my troubles...and will be receiving it on Thursday...now I had an OG Droid, but have since had an HTC DInc, Sammy Fassy, and now the GNex...I'm a little out of the Moto rooting game, and trying to catch up on all the info since the RAZR MAXX had been released is a little daunting to say the least...
1st, how is the phone, radio, call quality, speaker, speaker phone...i can only expect it to be as good if not better than my OG Droid.
and 2nd, how strong is the dev commmunity for this phone and what really can we do with this beast?
I am a little excited to get back on a Moto device, and definitely excited about the RAZR MAXX HD which i was going to get as soon as it came out, but i'll have some fun with this phone for awhile first!
Locked boot loader... kexec roms are rolling out though ( custom kernels). Beast battery life, screen pixel density is better on nexus but the colors are better on the razr. imo. Best data/call reception a verizon device has to offer. Hands down...

is that beast battery or best battery? lol...either one would be correct IMO...
great to hear about data/call reception...Sammy has horrible data...their hardware has weak signals...they claimed it was reporting to the OS wrong (signal bars in notification bar), but that was never cleared up...dbm has always been lower than other phones
is there a panoramic mode for the camera? that's the one thing i'm going to miss from my GNex...but going from 5mp to 8mp is a nice thing. panoramic mode is an ICS thing though isn't it?
what's the best root method...i see a couple out there

Go to droidrazrroot.com and follow the instructions, it always works and is simple.
Outgoing voice quality is the best of any phone currently made GSM phone (not sure about CDMA) which is why I have one. I'll be comparing to iPhone 5 when it actually is available for testing though.
Worst Decision you could of made. If i were you, I'd throw your Razr on a railway track and watch it get ran over.
Razr never gave birth to a decently sized dev community.

Razr has panorama. still wouldn't recommend it over a Nexus though
I had the GNex for about 2 weeks and dumped it for the Razr Maxx back in April. I've been very happy with the switch. At first it was a little disappointing because the Razr was still running Gingerbread. But after the ICS update there wasn't really anything I didn't like about it. Screen is a little smaller, but it's big enough. Reception, both voice and data, is much better on the Razr.
And the battery life will blow you away. With the Gnex I'd go to work and by noon I'd be down to 30% battery left. And that was with the Samsung extended battery. Now I get home at 5PM and I'm at close to 60% left. It's a pleasure being able to get through the day without having to plug it in. It's a pleasure to forget to plug it in at night and not have a dead phone when you wake up.
I dumped my GSM GNEX, which is arguably much better than the Verizon GNEX. Don't regret it one bit. I love the GSM RAZR MAXX. Just put ICS on it (or get the carrier ICS since Verizon has it out) and enjoy it. No more futzing with low volume, short battery life, etc. It just works and lasts forever on a charge.
I'm done rooting and kernel surfing. The MAXX works great for me and I always have my Nexus 7 for JB goodness/pure Google stuff. The MAXX is the portal to that device and I wifi tether to the tablet all the time. Works great.

Pretty much sums it up. Maxx is a great device. Does have some good devs working on it but until Kexec is working well I'm content with stock.

Most versatile device I've ever seen
Motorola RAZR MAXX - XT912 - .215 radio - SimplexROM 1.2 - Wigdetsoid - Tether - Linux Installer w/ Ubuntu 10.10 - Otter Box - Safestrap - Chrome - Tweaked Camera - AIDE - 80gb Storage w/64 removable
That sucks, I got my nexus from Google and it doesn't have any problems (I'm jinxed DX)

Narrowed it down to these four phones

Razr, Atrix 2, Photon or HTC Amaze. Which one would you choose?
EDIT: Now that GSM works on the Bionic I might as well add that to the list.

Based on the specs, you might as well rule out the Atrix 2 and Bionic. They all have a slower 1Ghz processor, as opposed to the Razr's 1.2Ghz.
The HTC Amaze and Photon both have a 1.5Ghz processor.
Personally, if I could afford it, the new Razr Maxx HD would be my choice. Ultimately, it will come down to your personal preference and how much you can afford to spend. I opted for the Razr, which I picked up 10 days ago, because it was $100 and I'm plugged in most of the time. Also, the Razr works with FoxFi (wifi tethering) without having to root, which for me on an unlimited data plan, is my go-anywhere isp.
Depends on your Atrix 2 and Bionic actually...on ICS they both get bumped to 1.2Ghz in most cases.
I'm more about build quality and development prospects, hoping to get the full jar of Jelly Beans down the line, not just a taste . I considered Bionic cause I have the Droid 3 which appears to be the same except for the keyboard(and less RAM) and I love the build quality. I guess for dev prospect Razr and Amaze look best right now.

Good to know.
Just saw a 1080p video captured by the RAZR, very clean quality like Droid 3 and unlike Amaze. Maybe the best choice sits right under my nose, just don't wanna make a hasty decision this time.
EDIT:Striking Photon 4G off my list. Everything points to the nVidia chips hampering development after the latest news from Motorola.
I would suggest looking at how badly you like custom kernels/roms. Kexec is slowly being stabilized but there are still issues to be worked out and personally after using a Nexus 7 with an unlocked bl, going back to the RAZR leaves a pretty sour taste in your mouth knowing that the device has so much potential yet we can't push it to its maximum limit.
If time is no issue, I would suggest waiting till December as there are rumours of a successor to the GNex and also we are seeing phones coming out with the S4 quads/Adreno so you may have better choices down the road. If you're still not happy, you can probably get better discounts/prices on the phones you currently have in mind.
