[Q] I wanna buy motorola atrix - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i want to know is there any difference between motorola atrix vs motorola atrix 4g? or is it the same phone?

Yep. Those 2 sets are same.

yeah atrix 4g is just shortened to atrix sometimes. there is also an atrix 2 that's barely different. just has a bigger screen and no fingerprint sensor.

What's your android history?

Just wondering how long you guys have been with Android and what your previous devices were. How many paid apps have you purchased?
I'm just wondering because I was recently going through my market and realized I have 27 paid apps! A lot of people think that the iPhone app store is better because of numbers but how many times have iPhone users asked "can I get that on my phone?" When have you ever heard vice versa? I know they are usually better visually and are better quality apps but I like our immature android... he's growing everyday. I personally think android marketplace is the bees knees because its more intimate, you can email devs for specific bugs and requests. You have emulators... mp3 downloads I mean you name it we got it. I refer to it as the android black market. Anyways what is your android history?

Android or phones? Pre android, i had an lg flip phone that i hated. Next was the big thing for girly girls, the hot pink moto razr. Then palm centro. Started with at&ts first android, backflip. Then tried flipside (locked bootloader and no development) but quickly moved to atrix. Loved it so much, i got a second one for playing with. Was thinking of going to the atrix hd, but I dont do non removable batteries. So once moto screwed the atrix , I said im done. Samsung skyrocket is my current phone and I'll never go locked bootloader again. Have no clue how many paid apps, but quite a few. However, I have hacked quite a few more then I've owned. Those include epic 4g touch, captivate, and have an lg quantum that I cant seem to find any development for. :what:

[Q] Can a US version bought in India be entitled for future upgrades?

I plan to buy the RAZR, but if buy a US version here in India, will I get future OS upgrades or will my phone be locked?
I had this same question whilst buying my HD7, the shop dealer showed me a T-mobile HD7 and a regular one. Fearing the fact that it will be locked while upgrading, I bought the regular(local) one. ( there was a good 10k difference between the two.)
And like we all know there are two versions, Motorola Razr and Droid Razr, if I pick the latter, will I not be getting any benefits/upgrades or there will be no problems at all?
Hi
Not relevant to the question you have asked, but I have one question and one point:
Question: How much cheaper are you offered the Droid Razr compared to the regular Razr?
Point:
I had found out re Blackberry, that the new 9930 (CDMA version of 9900) does not work with Vodafone in India as Verizon has put some block on it. Ebay sellers in India state that the 9930 will not work with Vodafone India.
Now, could there be a similar block with the Droid Razr as well?
As to your question, I am sure someone on XDA would post the upgrades as they become available for the Droid Razr, it might not be OTA, but I don't think I have heard of an update that has been released that XDA have not also made available manually.
Let me know if the Droid Razr is significantly cheaper than the Razr. If it is, I don't mind visiting Mumbai to pick it up at a cheaper price.

Hi..
Firstly, the device hasn't hit Indian shores...secondly, like I mentioned, when I wqs going to buy the HD7, the Tmobile was 10k cheaper than the legal/local one... I got my for 28 and the US version was 18k...that's a lot...thirdly you are right, someone would post the update here and I don't need to worry about the warranty, as the phone itself doesn't have any, considering its a US device...i am just wondering if its worth the gamble...
If the price difference is as big as your HD7 experience and I could check out a piece in store before committing my money, I would take the risk in buying a Droid Razr. Rs.10K buys a lot of additional stuff, pays a lot of bills...
(Also subject to no network blocks in India like I had read about the Blackberry 9930).

i honestly doubt there will be any sort of block...just that is shouldnt turn out to be a CDMA..as these type of phones dont have a SIM card slot...yes, agree 10k is a lot, but paying that extra 10k is also a lot of peace of mind.
If something goes awry tomorrow, i know i can screw Motorola's happiness. But if the phone is unlocked/jail broken and a US edition, i can say good bye to that 18k and head to the Himalayas...
Your call, all I wanted to know is that can I have a working/functioning US version here in India...?
Also do you know there is a Driod Razr and a Motorola Razr. Droid ones are for US and the rest are for global..

US version ie Driod Razr is a CDMA device and most networks in India are GSM so i suggest not to go for the US Droid Razr coz CDMA devices are generally locked to their respective networks and Indian CDMA operators wont entertain Verizon devices...

I have to agree. Its safe paying that extra bit. Also, am not planning to buy it anytime now seeing the current chaos of some having the green tint and not others...a couple of months lets say?

[Q] Dev support

Hey does the droid razr have more dev support as compared to the galaxy S2.? i was considering to buy one of them and wanted to know which one fares better in this aspect,as its really important. Guyz please help.
I'm sure more dev support will be coming once moto rolls out ics.
As far as what phone to choose, best advice I can give is to go to vzw store and play around with the demos of both and see which one "feels" better to you.

He's from India, so he's gonna buy it unlocked. In that case, check the prices of both of them. The RAZR has a better build quality but the S2 has more dev love, courtesy is unlocked bootloader.

Yeah il be buying it unlocked. The price of galaxy S2 is a little less than RAZR here, and for me i want the device to last a good 1 year since i wont be uodating before that. Either should i wait for one of the nexus devices to come out.?
The GNex has very poor radio reception and no micro-sdxc slot.

[Q] Razr Maxx - can be used in Portugal?

Hello all, I never had a motorola and coming from an HTC EVO 3D... so this phone is all new to me.
I was thinking in buy an razr maxx to use in Portugal. I can find some razrs to sell from verizon (so i guess they come from USA) but my question is to know if i can use it in Europe and more exactly in Portugal? Will it work fine with my Portuguese SIM card? Something i should know?
Other thing, can anyone advise me if this is a good choice? With so many new phones, like SII, SIII, ONE S, ONE X, should this be a good choice? Or should this be the best choice?
Thank you for all the information that you can give me and help me to decide.
Bump! I would also like to know if this will work since Im currently in germany
Sent from my MB632 using XDA
I no longer need this information as I've decided to buy another phone.
Thanks anyway.
Yes, if you're on ICS, then this phone will work on any GSM carrier if you put the SIM card in.

[Q] atrix 4g vs moto x

So I did a quick search if there was any thread regarding people's experience switching from atrix 4g to moto x and couldn't find any.
For those who did switch over to the Moto X, what significant changes did you experience (like or dislike) from switching over from the Atrix 4g? I really love the fingerprint scanner to turn my phone on without looking or having to input any code, which is part of why I have not upgraded or so. My Atrix 4g is still going strong, but I was contemplating whether I should give the Moto X a try.
Another reason why I was thinking of getting the Moto X is that, we, atrix 4g users, were promised $100 credit from Motorola/Google for not updating the OS of our phones, as long as we switch phones to another Motorola phone, if I remember right. So with that being said, the Moto X price just dropped to $99, which would make it essentially free for us as long as we renew our contract if I am correct in thinking so. Has anybody tried that approach yet? The price drop for the Moto X is new so I don't think anyone has tried yet, but I would like to hear opinions about this as well.

I just checked through the email that they have sent me, the $100 credit is still active until... June 30, 2014.
does that apply to international customers?
And is that only if you get a plan?

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to include the link, but its a link I shared in slickdeals.net. didn't seem to get any momentum.
To answer your question, I think you need to be in the mainland US for it to work. You'll need to purchase your new phone (i.e. Moto X, or other phones included in the link I provided), fill up a rebate form from Moto (also included in the link), trade in your Atrix (or other phones that qualify), then they will send you the rebate.
The phone that you trade in must have been bought from the US.
