ill see if heimdall can work on the gnote if it does ill support it .

I fired up heimdall on my Mac and it recognizes it but if I simply try the close PC button which should just reboot the phone it says claiming interface failed or something like that, and doesn't work.
I checked the heimdall thread and apparently the newer phones aren't supported due to a different bootloader. The thread also says Benjamin Dobel "creator" might try to update heimdall because he recently got an sgsII. let's just wait and see.

I'd like to know this as well...

Any info on SGH-i717 support of Gnote?

[Q] Odin doesn't recognize

I was finally going to root last night but Odin doesn't see my device. I had no problems with using Odin in the past with my infuse so i figured the note would be no different. I have keis installed from before, but not sure if it needs updating or whatever...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
OK, when i get home I'm just going to start all over. A while back before my note even came in i was preparing my PC with everything I'd need for root etc, i was reading the root page and it said to install Odin (which i already had but i installed it anyway thinking it was a nwer version) it than said to get drivers HERE, i clicked the link but it just brought me to Samsung home page...i searched all over for the drivers but couldnt find them, i figured i didn't need them anyways since my infuse worked fine with Odin but now my note isn't recognized so maybe i do need the drivers...where are they??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
No one link me where or how to get the proper drivers so i can root. The link i see in the dev section brings me to Samsung page but where do i find the drivers?

[q] phone will not root

I just got my refurbished phone today and I have tried everything to get the phone to root and it will not. It came with kk6 2.3.6 when I go to use phone and it says set up connection and stays on that forever.
I have tried 3 different usb cables 6 usb ports and 2 different computers. I am using a jig to get into download mode

Don't assume that because you've rooted an android phone before that you necessarily know what you're doing. Every android phone is different, and so the rooting methods may be different. For example, SuperOneClick and Odin One-Clicks are very different things.
Read this very carefully. I suggest reading it twice. And if you plan on doing any more modifications, read, read, do google and xda searches, and read some more.

I brought my phone back to complete stock (2.3.4) and used Odin to root and had no problems. Didn't want to work with 2.3.6 but after I went back I had no problems. Just saying this worked for me so give it a try

I did it in Parallels.
You can't actually do anything on a mac. Joke's on you.
Thats not true. Its a UNIX based OS so it so you can do a LOT of stuff with it

Can you root the i717 Galaxy Note without a Computer?

I'm the proud owner of a Galaxy Note i717 but the limitations of gingerbread are driving me crazy....so the first thing I want to do is root and flash a different ROM problem is I'm without a computer ugh.
I came across a YouTube video showing how to root the other model without using a computer so I was wondering if anyone knew of a solution for the i717 model.
So is it possible to root the i717 galaxy note without a computer?
Help me out here guys any feedback is much appreciated....

I highly discourage trying anything other than what is posted in these threads...since it has been proven to best and most effective why of rooting and flashing...
in other words...You will need a computer and for a safety feature in case you soft brick or hard... you will have a need for a pc...computer.
do you have CWM on your device? like ranger stated below...no need to root to flash...
just my suggestions
You don't need root to flash an ics Rom.

Honestly I would not attempt to flash without a pc handy...due to the saying
"ya never know"
Even though we have the same make/model devices....they are not the same... my GNote may not like a ROM as to yours might...like I trying explaining ... the computer being your safety net if something goes wrong....I would wait or find a friend that you can use a computer, but it is your call, it is your investment.
btw unless someone knows a way to put CWM on the device without a computer....I believe you will need a computer...
Since CWM is a custom kernel, you could flash it from the phone using the Mobile Odin app.
Edit: oops never mind -- you need to be rooted to use Mobile Odin. Sorry for the bad information.
I rooted one phone using the terminal emulator after downloading such and busy box to the SD card. But its harder than climbing Everest without oxygen typing those commands.

So I Bought a Galaxy note (i717) the charger port is messed up on the device. It will charge, but it wont allow any PC connectivity. I have searched google and xda for information how how to root this phone with out a PC (aka using an .apk like framaroot) and I can not find a viable solution. I have tried Z4Root and Framaroot and neither of them work. Do you know of any other ways to root my device with out a pc? If i dont need a Root to Flash Could you point me in the right direction to find that information I haven't put CWM on the device yet because I Cant Root so I cant MobileOdin ect.. you see the picture lol. Is it possible to use an Update.zip file? or use a formatted SDcard to flash it like I did to Flash NookColor1?

[Q] Sprint Note 3. Cant root this phone... Please help!!!

What I have: I have a Sprint Note 3. Model number SM-N900P.. It's flashed to some prepaid company called Red Pocket. I went to this company from PrePayd Wireless but Sprint cut them off and even though they PrePayd found out this information on the Feb 14th but they decided not to tell their customers like myself until the minute before Sprint pulled the plug and my number was trashed with no way of getting it back. This lost me a lot of money smh (I apologize for ranting)
What my goal is: I just want to root the phone so that I can flash CWM or TWRP and get CM Kitkat on the device.
What my problem is: I can not get the device root.. I believe this could be because i can not get my device to give me the MTP option.
What have I tried: I've tried using Orin with CF Root and I use Odin with a CWM and a TWRP .tar . I was going to add the SS. All of this resulted in me rooting my phone in recovery and it giving me the dead android guy. Its like it wont stick to the phone.
I tried Kingo Root and one click as well and its saying that. Kingo said its not connected.
One Click Root cant even detect my phone is plugged in.
Kies says its not compatible and it downloads Kies 3.
Kies 3 just sits on a screen that says my phone needs to be in MTP mode.
I have installed the Samsung drivers. I even installed a brand new copy of windows 7 ultimate on a brand new hard drive just so i could start from scratch with the drivers because my other hard drive wouldn't even recognize the phone. This one is recognizing the phone and I re-installed the driver thru Kies and they all installed. I don't know what else to do. Please help.
I apologize if this was on another thread i search kind of hard for this problem before i made a new post
Might be a silly question, but have you enabled debug in developers settings?

Yes I have unlocked the developer mode and enabled USB debugging. That was one of the first things I did and I have tried it in different variations with the program ie: USB debugging on when the program starts then off and I won't turn it on until the program is on and any other way.

I was struggling with this too, I finally got it to work after I installed Kies (I was probably missing some of the drivers) and following this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTCH0gmRT0A Very easily rooted following this. I've already did this as my first initial post suggest. Kingo root won't detect my device. It's only says it's not connected. I have Kies 3 installed as Kies 1 said it was not supported. I have all my drivers installed manually and Kies installed the rest I guess but Kies is only saying that I need to put my phone on MTP which I have no option for. My device is on Stock 4.3
