I read few posts where they hint the AT&T Note is missing few features/apps that exist in the Canadian version (Rogers/Bell/Telus). Can someone with AT&T phone confirm the availability of these items on their phone:
1) Wifi Direct
2) Kies via Wfi
3) Tethering
4) NFC

Thanks.

Yeah, has anyone tried flashing a Canadian rom on the at&t version? It annoys me that I can't use the hardware I paid for.

This is definitely the right forum. The phones are nearly identical except for a few little things. All the Roms and mods should work the same on our phones other than we might have to change to modem to work with our carriers.

Thanks guys.
The Forum name is confusing though...nothing against AT&T and its users but its really confusing and I was unsure if the roms, mods, etc would work on my device. But I was pretty sure there were only 2 versions basically so thats why I stuck around.
On a side note, I had owned the Galaxy Nexus and picked up the Note to compare the two to see what one I'd keep and what one I'd sell. Well the Note stuck around so you can see what I chose! Amazing device, can't wait for development to really pick up...if you are into digital art, games and media this thing is a dream!
re cdn vs us note
Yeah I was thinking that I'm kinda scared to use any roms made from the AT&T version on my canadian note, for fear of loosing functionality that I already have.
I hope the great developers here take that into account and offer Canadian ROMs

PLUS, it doesn't have the carrier logo/brand on the phone like the AT&T one.
I believe you can add remote controls to the list, found under settings/location and security/find my mobile, apparantly at&t had that removed for there own version of phone tracking, i havent tried it, but the option is on mine
Are you sure your nfc doesnt work? I can enable mine, i just havent tried it yet. Will try it today at work

1700 MHZ LTE disabled on ATT
I have noticed that the ATT Note does not work on Rogers LTE network. I think its because it does not have 1700 MHZ enabled for LTE . Perhaps ATT version only has 700 enabled for LTE.

Nope, the AT&T version uses both 700 class 17 and the AWS (1700/2100) bands for LTE. I don't know what band the Roger's LTE network uses, but if it is AWS (1700/2100) and the AT&T Note you are using is unlocked, then it will pick it up.

Edit:
I popped my cell sim into the tablet. it connected at H+. I guess I answered my own question.
Thanks
I bought a Rogers tablet off a guy who said it was a 3G model. The box was opened but the tablet is brand new.
The Box says 4g on in. I've already put overcome on it. now I'm wondering is it a 3g or a 4g.
Is there anyway to tell by the physical case?
Also is there a thread on the different models and sub model numbers.
Thanks

AT&T markets HSPA+ as "4G." Rogers does the same thing. So it's officially a 3G Tab capable of 21MB down on a HSPA+ network. Rogers and AT&T call that 4G the rest of the world calls it 3G or 3G+. I'm using a phone SIM in my 3G UK Tab on AT&T and get 8MB down in fake-4G (the only real 4G is LTE) cities. The benefit of using a calling plan vs. data-only is you get unlimited messaging too. I don't know if Rogers works the same way.

good explanation and yes Rogers does work pretty much the same way.
The only differnce will come is with the roll out of LTE that is ongoing for Rogers. It is my understanding the 9500R just released by Rogers is capable of LTE but your sim card will have to be changed to accomodate both the increase in speed and (more importantly) the increase in billing charge from Rogers.
so is the latest overcome the best rom to use? or are there others that are better?

there are the stock roms just issued with KI2 base but I believe that is also the basis for Overcome -- install of which also provides root and a complimentary CWM file. The simpicity of this appealed to me!
So its the best starting point I would say at this juncture.
BUT the stock roms for the 10.1 are themselves quite robust, something those of us with the Galaxy S for example are unused to! So you can root and install cwm without overcome and use a stock rom -- best is always subjective and a personal judgement.
Some of the other Roms have good development but are for the wifi only version and look good but aren't meant for the Rogers Tab -- didn't stop me trying them and checking them out mind, but it all depends how much of a flashaholic you are! You need a deodexed rom if you want to install any themes at this point.
The sole custom kernel presently is the Pershoot one: allows you to OC to 1400 and does play nice with either the stock or the Overcome rom -- there is a thread and you can see the feedback yourself.

Ok, just a disclaimer (I am well-aware of my n00b status here)... I spent quite a few hours already on this site and on the Android forums, and on Google searching for answers to this... Not to mention time at the AT&T store and chatting w/some other phone reps (including Samsung tech support and AT&T tech support)... And while I've made some progress, I still can't get any definitive answers here.
So... that being said, first (and big 'sigh' I'm sure to many) is that I'm using a South Korea Note - the SHV-E160S. I know this is the I717 forums, but before I get flamed and booted, let me explain...
Well, I am on AT&T. No problems with calls or texting (minus the annoying 80-character limit, but anyways)... However, I have a BIG problem with the LTE. I'm on the LTE data plan, however, I cannot access any data network other than GPRS. Yes, my pings take about 533ms. My download speeds are about 53kb/s. This sucks, quite a lot. Esp when compared to my fiance's Note, which side-by-side gets about 13mb/s on the LTE network.
So... Did some research, and got the run-around... Less all the crap I heard from AT&T reps... It seems that the antenna for my Note is set to LTE850/LTE1800, and the actual AT&T SGH-I717's antenna is set to LTE700/LTE1700/2100. My sources for this come from PDAdb.net (I'd hyperlink, but my post count is not high enough to do that, yet).
So... Here come the questions. First... Is the antenna frequency tuning something built-into the hardware, or is it something that can be tuned via software?
-If it's in the hardware, would it be possible to buy an AT&T-spec LTE antenna? Which antenna gets replaced (from what I understand, there are two, and I can't find a legit source that tells me which is which), and where could I buy such a thing?
-If it's in the software, what would I have to do to re-tune the antenna? My phone is rooted with the latest Gingerbread Tegrak kernel.
Lastly... Though there is a difference between the LTE antennas... I still cannot access any network other than GPRS. I should at least be able to access EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA and HSPA+ as well, but I can't.
If ALL else fails, I guess I could get a portable tethering device with a contract... But that'd be oh-so-annoying to have to carry around all the time, and I'd like to avoid that option as much as possible. I'm paying $30/mo for LTE service on my phone already!
Anyways... Any thoughts or advice would be very appreciated, and my apologies if anything here is out-of-place. Thanks in advance!
U have the international note. Doesn't have late chip in it. But ur note has better CPU then the att note. The international note CPU is not comparable with att lte chipset that's y Samsung use 2different CPU. Yes u should be able to get 3g. Reset your apn. And search around. To find the code to reset your apn. I forgot. Its something like *2260*
I had an international first, had to rest everything to get data. But after few days. I return it cos I prefer to have lte speed more then CPU speed. And I found out the u can just over clock att note to 1.85 instead of stock 1.5. So now I am very happy with my att note.

Hmm I'm not sure if this method works with the International Note but it's worth a try. You need to get into ServiceMode. On your phone dialer keypad type *#2263# and choose 2 WCDMA Band Preference and select (6) WCDMA all.
Reply with your findings.

Thanks for the tip, but all I get is an error: "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."

Maybe the issue is your kernal and/or radio? Isn't the Tegrak kernal Korean? Most likely your radio is also. That is probably your issue. The way I see it you have 3 choices: Live with it, Sell it and buy an I717 variant, Take the risk and at least flash the ATT Gingerbread radio.

he doesn't have the international note(n7000) he has the South Korea Note - the SHV-E160S (he says it in OP), which it has the same processor as ours but some minor diferences in other things.
To the OP, why do you have a korean Note when from your avatar you're in the US?, I'm sure there's your problem, that note is set to use bands in korea and not in US, so the data is going to be crap, and for you to attempt to swap out the antenna is risking braking the phone because you run a chance after swapping it, not working and not having a working phone anymore.

I matched the APN settings of my fiancee's LTE Note first, and that did not work... It's pretty much exactly what you have posted. However, there are a couple things of note (bad pun, sorry). I do not have a 'APN enable/disable' or 'Bearer' field... However, everything else is set the same.

I have a Korean Note because I was living in Korea for a while, and I just got back to the US last week.
As in my OP, I found that the LTE bands are different; however, I can't even get on any other data networks other than GPRS. I've tried some APNs for HSPA+, and the results are the same.
Swapping the antennas shouldn't be THAT big of a deal if I had to... I'm pretty mechanically inclined. Obviously, I need to know if it would provide the intended results or not first.

Looks like the color doesn't matter. I confirmed with NaviFirm that different color firmwares share the same .ffu. And I've seen numerous reports when people flashed non-ATT firmware into Cyan ATT phone and didn't have any issues.
---------- Post added at 07:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:18 PM ----------
I've installed Rogers pre-Portico firmware on my ATT Lumia 920 (RM820_1232.2109.1242.1002_RETAIL_nam_canada_200_02_100347_prd_signed.ffu), installed Access Point app, and Internet Sharing was working just fine (I'm on Telus, Canada). But overnight the phone installed all the latest updates (currently on 1232.5957.1308.0000) and Internet Sharing is no longer working. When I go to Access Point app and try selecting one of the two default profiles (Telus and Koodo), it immediately exits the app and shows all profiles as inactive. If I manually enter profile settings, I'm able to select it, but it still doesn't seem to work - when I go to Internet Sharing and try enabling it, I get "Internet Sharing isn't currently available" error.
Does anyone know how to work around this?
Ok, I seem to have been able to get Internet Sharing back on. I had to hard reset the phone (through About->Reset option). After that I installed the Access Point app again and everything seems to be working. Apparently updates somehow mess up Access Point app.
Now I need to figure out how to get LTE to work on Telus and possibly get the phone working on Wind/Mobilicity...

Just remember that with gophone your data is not unlimited. You either have 2GB or 5GB a month. I forget which as I think gophone will actually make you pay more then an outright contract in the long run. I want to say it is a 2GB limit. So even if you do have LTE you can't use more than 2GB a month. If you do they hit you for 10 bucks a GB you go over. Or on gophone they may just cut off your data till it renews next month.
Effective June 21st, the only data add-on package available for the $50 and $25 plans will be the $5 for 50MB. The $65 monthly plan will be able to add $10 for 1GB. A total of 3 Gigs can be stacked onto that plan within a month.

I don't think I've found a conclusive answer through the search on the forum so I am posing this question since AT&T stripped out DataSense, I would like to flash a fully featured ROM onto my AT&T Lumia 920--
Does the AT&T LTE bands work on the European Developer Edition ROM?
Does tethering work?
Is DataSense working?
Thanks so much in advanced for replying back.
Edit:
Also seems like BUILD version of Lumia 920 -- rm-820_nam_canada_246 -- would we be able to flash that?

I can tell you that the French Amber/GDR2 and the Rogers Amber/GDR2 work and give LTE speeds, although the French rom will display a different icon on front of phone. Check out this thread and this one. I flashed my L920 with the Rogers Amber/GDR2 a while back and have no issues. I have data sense, no carrier boot logo. Tethering should work if you have a plan that supports it.

I flashed the Rogers GDR2/Amber this morning and have no data. Read on here someplace that I needed the Access Point app to enable data. Now I'm back to where I was with the ATT Dev Rom - no tethering. Tells me to call 611. My mobile share plan has tethering included.

sorry that happened to you. I've heard from others that you get tethering to work after flash and immediately installing and setting Access Point to LTE2. Then never touch the Access Point app again. After that is set you enable tethering and it works until to start Access Point which will screw up tethering. A hard reset will allow you to enable it again.
Besides the obvious model number, what are the differences in hardware and firmware between the two.
They seem identical my cousin has the galaxy note 2 at&t and I have the i605 Verizon gn2 maybe the network receivers are different

A lot...Verizon (and Sprint) uses CDMA frequencies and radios and AT&T (and T-Mobile) uses GSM frequencies and radios

I understand the obvious here but I currently have the verizon 605 and I'm on at&t so it would seem that it can be on any carrier considering the n2 uses a lot of freqs. I'm talking about actual hardware differences. I might need to do some research on my own with this one. But if anyone else can help with this would be appreciated.

Verizon model doesn't have what it needs to be on AT&T LTE. I believe the way the memory is partitioned is different as well.
Just out of curiosity, why are you wanting to know?

I am a hardware guy. I'm also considering finding out how they tick and make my own custom rom to maybe figure this out and streamline a rom that will be custom only to the note 2 regardless of carrier. i mean its out there that the note 2 will work on any carrier regardless of model because I'm on my 605 running an att rom on att carrier.

The main differences are the included radios
Verizon: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=3926
AT&T: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=3918
Of course firmware will be very different because of interfacing with the radios

^ Thanks for this.
Thinking out loud here, not sure why Samsung wouldn't be able to have one radio that can handle all those different LTE bands. Perhaps this is intentional based on requests from US carriers?

Yes...that sounds like something they would request to try and keep you tied to their carrier or make you buy one of their phones when moving to them.

Hmm I am confused here.. doesn't the Verizon note 2 have both GSM and CDMA capabilities, that why is considered a World phone..
I'm pretty certain the main differences is firmare and not hardware. I'll have to check those links Kenny..
I know of people running t mobile on a Verizon note 2 that have everything working perfectly fine and t mobile is GSM. Pop the Sim in, switch mobile networks to GSM, maybe edit apns for lte..but I don't even thunk that is needed once the GSM Sim is in place. This unlocks the add apn feature under access points

Yes, look at the specs...it has GSM radio too with some frequencies. And no, you cannot flash AT&T firmware on a Verizon phone and have a perfectly working AT&T phone.

No I know that.. I am not saying flashing att firmware would work out of the box, so they say.. I am aware of what it takes to port different firmwares
I'm saying using a att or t mobile Sim is possible.. maybe I wondered off the op's topic here..sorry about that

This is possible.. but not without a pretty intense aroma installer..you'll need to separate different csc features, apps, frameworks, permissions, libs, build.props and vender folders. .but yea. Would be a pretty big task and knowledge of all the carriers

Thank you for this tidbit of info. I'm currently trying to figure a way to get my old VZW Note 2 working on Straight Talk for my Dad, who's currently using a 3" Samsung something-or-other P.O.S. I'm going to get the AT&T version of the Straight Talk SIM and try it out since some have reported success with it. If not that one, then maybe the T-Mobile one.
I'll post back with my results (5-10 business days for delivery--yikes!)
P.S. Anyone else out there have a recommendation for a ROM to use for this? I'm going to go with something 4.1.x because I've read that later versions won't work. Jedi X maybe?
