I was looking around to see if there was a way to have my roocase turn my screen on and off. I know the cover had magnets in it and I could also use the light sensor but haven't found an app. Does anyone know if it can be done?

whats wrong with just setting the screen to turn off sooner, or hitting the top button before closing the case?
Here we go :

I completely understand your need, the power button is really hard to find and press with a case.

Doesn't seem to work for me.

Ho doesn't work for me either. Gonna implement that in one of my apps and share it here, all the other ones I found in the market aren't free :/
Edit 1:
Ok looks like the prime doesn't have a proximity sensor, that's why it doesn't work with other apps. Implementing it with the light sensor instead

Ok so the missing proximity sensor is not the only problem, the screen also seem to not turn off with the common approaches, I'll let you guys know when I get something to work.

Well, hard reset may help you fix this ASUS Transformer Prime touchscreen not responding issue: 1. Unplug the power cord and shut the unit off and Press and Hold the power button and the "Down" volume button together for 6-10 seconds and let them both go. 2. Wait a few more seconds until the term "Cold Boot" appears in the list near the top of the screens and just press and release the "Down" volume button again and let it reboot. If you own the dock be sure and do this with the dock connected.
Nevermind its not working again

Maybe you spayed too much application solution that got inside tablet? dip it in a bag of rice may help..
This is funny.. play by play of what is happening

That's a wet screen protector, right? Definitely sounds like water damage. Same thing happened to me with the original Droid phone. Power it off, put it in a bowl of rice over night, and cross your fingers.

wasn't the Prime's gorilla glass enough protection eliminating the need for a screen protector in the first place?

I had a problem with my screen that was bad enough to cause me to return it. It was amazing in every other way, but the screen problem was a deal breaker. I'm gonna give it some time before I try again.

the power button is not the easiest thing to hit while in a case (my case anyway) has anyone been able to find an app that turns the screen on with the light sensor? and off as well.
there are 2 in the market that i can find; case genie and case sensor.
the one doesn't work at all and the other turns the screen on all the time even when the cover is close.
Only issue I see here is if you want to use your tablet at night...

I'm sure there are apps that use proximity sensor, not light sensor.
But then if you put your hand on the sensor, it would turn off.
Aybe find one that uses the magnetic sensor. I believe there is one in the thing. That should work with a case that has a small magnet in it.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
yea.. i meant proximity sensor.. fyi it works by the amount of light on the sensor.
Any update on this? I'm currently using Proximity Screen Off which people have reported works for the Xoom, though I haven't tried it on my Xoom, but it doesn't work on my Prime. I set it up so that the screen turns off once the proximity sensor is blocked for a second or more.
does the prime have a proximity sensor?
I have tired 3 or 4 diff ones and non of them work. and an FYI a proximity sensor and a light sensor are 2 diff things.. i believe the prime only has a light sensor and it either doesn't work or these apps suck.
Try screen off and lock in there market, it works for shutting light and screen off but you still need to use power button to turn back on

While it work I have never gotten keys to sync w/ the screen after a reboot. I have to reset it again. Has anyone got it to sync all the time?
mine does.. maybe i'm lucky. sorry i can't be of any more help.
So you run keyboard backlight controller and the 2 top boxes checked and the bottom unchecked. So the keys dim w/ the screen. And on a reboot the keys are still in sync w/ the screen?
Maybe u have to make sure the app is on ur internal card. Most of the time if I have a program that resets on restart that is what to blame ;-D
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk
No, the top two are unchecked, and the bottom is checked. And yes, it automatically syncs every time
Sent from my MB870 using XDA
In your case the lights are set to be off with or without the screen! There is no sync'ing.
I was asking if anyone got the keys to be on WITH the screen & remain so after a reboot. The 2nd option stops its action unless you toggle it again.
If all else fails, get an Otterbox case. You'll never see those lights again lol. That is the only thing I hate about this case. I actually WANT to see my buttons glowing.
Lol. I am talking bout keeping the key lights on/off as the screen is on/off. Our phone light sensor does not do it's job very well & you pick up the phone in the dark & you cannot tell you have the wrong end of it cuz the damn lights are off. "Keyboard backlight CONTROLLER" LOL people read the op but not each post.
BTW I use the impact (rubber only) otterbox & I cut out the key overlays so the keys are exposed.

Same case I have. Does cutting out the keys compromise the structural integrity of the case much? If not, I'm about to go grab my xacto knife and start slicing
It's maybe a bit looser but ok. I went very near the edge molding line. I went "thumb room". So go slow. But w/o the battery door even, it works great.
Okay, I finally got it to work! I haven't seen those lights since March!

Hi,
I'm looking to try out a Note. But want to know if there is a feature in some kernel or flashable zip of some kind to achieve this. I searched around but got mixed results so I'm not certain. thank you in advance.
I remember having that option on my Vivid. However, I do believe that is an HTC/Sense option. Someone correct me?

Whoa, funny to see 2 other people switching from a Vivid to a Note!
This is something I'd been looking for a while as well, never found anything. It was such a nice way to turn on/off my screen, made the button seem ancient and obsolete.

well, not just a note but just something a bit bigger than the vivid, i'm even considering the GS3 as well. but the thing is, I dock my phone onto my car's instrumentation panel and it seems to work well but there's no way i can get to the vivid's power button, and even the samsung lines would be difficult to get to as the power button is on the side; i hope someone can make something like this for the samsung lines.
thanks.

It doesn't really need to be 'swept' to wake. all I want is something that I can touch (or hold) on the front screen or bottoms to wake this thing up. anything? if not, I think what I'll do is go for the international version which, its middle button wakes the note up.
thanks!
you can flash a cm based rom and set device to stay awake while charging. you can also set to wake with volume keys. unless you mount phone with both sides blocked. i personaly set to stay awake and have modified my sunglass holder to hold phone. sits just above rear view mirror and works great even though power button is down and cant be pressed. if you want to stay with touchwiz screen times out at 10 minutes and no option to stay awake. however if you have sqlite editor you can change the database to stay awake but i have had issues with this not wanting to stick after reboot.

so you want to wake/unlock the device without using any hardware buttons?
i use lightlock or proximity screen off/on from the play store. it uses the front sensors to wake/unlock or sleep.
i set lightlock to just 1 sec so all i have to do is put my hand/finger over the front sensor then my note wakes up

Does this mean it wakes up in your pocket?
no. it will only wake if it senses a proximity change
so if you use lightlock and just cover the sensor, nothing will happen. if you cover the sensor for a set period that you choose and then remove your hand, then your device will wake.
you should try it out. it makes using your phone feel futuristic. impresses a lot of people especially when you show somebody with an iphone lol

After my bootload unlock and root, my softkeys don't work, help!
working fine here not sure what would have caused that
I just realized its an auto lighting issue, cover your light and proximity sensor and they come on. Voila!
I find something new/different every couple hours it seems like.
My soft keys don't light up either but I've been looking around and it appears in all the reviews I've seen, they don't lite up. Can someone confirm or deny this please?

Mine do light up. It needs to be dark or you need to cover up the sensor.
turn off your lights or go in a dark room. They DO light up and if yours don't, you have an issue.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Mine have been intermittent. Sometimes they light up and most of the time they don't. I love it when they work, it really helps. I keep missing the right spot for the back button unless I can see it. Mine would turn on when I rotated the phone to landscape and then go off again when rotated back to portrait. For the last hour they've been on all the time.
I just tried the light sensor theory and it's 100% right. I shined a bright flashlight at the ambient light sensor and the buttons turned off. Took the flashlight away and the buttons turned back on.
edit: crap, I spoke too soon. They turned off again and now won't turn on no matter what I do. They came on for a few seconds and then went off again. Now they're still off. I look forward to seeing them again soon, just wish I knew what makes them stay lit up.

My keys don't turn on unless I'm in a totally dark room, with no lights on anywhere. Frankly I think it's pretty stupid. I can't see the keys at all for about 90% of the time I'm using it. It would be nice to have a switch to just turn them on and leave them on. Maybe a widget but would probably require root.

If this phone weren't so awesome in every other way the (un)lighted buttons would be a deal breaker for me. It's pissing me off although I know eventually I'll get used to where the keys are supposed to be. The few times when the keys light up makes me pissed off for all the times when they don't.
If your keys stay lit all the time there must be a setting somewhere to turn them on. ??
Maybe a poll would be appropriate - see if this is a big problem or if I have a defective phone.

Mine worked.. then stopped.. took 3 factory resets to get them going. But now have to be in a really dark room for them to work..

you can Restore to factory status, and try this again.:silly:
def. seems like the sensor to initialize the backlight for the buttons is very sensitive. Wish it would pop on in low light not complete darkness.
