How can I upgrade to .15 with an unlocked bootloader?
I'm afraid to do so because I've seen some people in this forum that bricked their TFP after upgrading with an unlocked bootloader.
I'm on .14 at the moment with root access and CWM recovery installed.
I'm in the same situation, and looking for a solution as well. Is Asus going to release .15, so we can manually apply the update?

what if someone will pull this upgrade from the OTA it'll work?
doubt ASUS will do anything for you but would imagine someone will come up with something.

Nope. If you unlocked you're now and forever dependent on the Dev community.

Nope, once unlocked, you're unlocked for good. Maybe one day someone might cone up with a way to relock the bootloader but like it was when I had my Atrix, always unlocked once you took that leap.

Nope. ASUS has your serial number on their server as unlocked. There is no going back now, no matter what ever happens, you will receive no updates or support from Asus.

Just a quick note to let any of you with the Serial number unknown issue like me know that the update is now available for download. It successfully applied and I know have Android 4.0.3 on my Prime. Not that I expected it to but for any that are curious it did not make my Serial number available in software.

What is the manual update procedure, please? Preferably without microSD card? If possible? Thanks.
FWIW, they also seem to have released the kernel source used for ICS.
Glad to see they are fulfilling their obligations under GPL ...
All versions there except for the german DE, well ain't I the lucky one to have bought a German model. I wonder what is so special about the German version since it takes almost a month more to release.

So we can finally get custom kernels? Now we just need a bootloader unlocker =)

The config.gz might shed some light on the diffs, but suffice it to say one of them is likely to brick your prime (clue: the one that doesn't match your hw).

If you want to update, just:
1. Download the file from Asus
2. Take out the zip that's located in the zip u downloaded (DON'T unzip the second zip which has a file and folder, it should STAY in zip format)
3. Put that zip into the root of your TP - you DO NOT have to have an SD card to do this, placing it in the top-level or root folder of your prime storage (ssd) is JUST FINE.
4. Disconnect your prime if it's connected to a computer. Your Prime should have a little triangle in the notification bar - HIT THAT.
5. (If No Triangle) Restart your prime disconnected from anything but a charger and when it starts up it should have the triangle in the notification bar.
Can't wait for the bootloader to get unlocked, hopefully we'll get the attention of some talented devs! As great as it is, I think there's still a lot of potential software wise with the TFP

we already have very talented developers here. Some already making big strides in Android developement. Then you have some just waiting for bootloader to be unlocked. we already have a person also doing themes. So we good go. Of course the more developers the better. Contrary to what some might think, Prime will be huge and a very big deal when it comes to developement. Prime with Tegra3 will open the doors and make it easier for future devices with tegra3 to be developed for. Since developers will have had a head start on the Prime.
I predict Prime will have the most going on for it developement wise for the entire 2012. We have a huge headstart already. Some people already deodexing the ICS dump for other developers to get a head start checking things out so they can be ready to hit the ground running once bootloader unlocking tool drops.

Not what he is asking.
The OTA does not reset the device. All of your apps, settings, preferences, etc. were all left intact. He wants to know if this manual install does the same. I would "suspect" it would work the same as the OTA but I cannot say for sure as that was 1 real bonus to the OTA of ICS is that it left all of our hard work in place that we did setting up settings and home screens and all of that nonsense that takes hours and hours.
I'm not concerned about that. In fact, I'd prefer it nuke everything but it doesn't. It does look like it overwrites /system but all my data is still there.

they shouldnt lose data when you update with the OTA. if you noticed, it is about 300mb, bc it only updates stuff it must and leaves as much data as possible.
hope this helps
PS this doesnt belong in the development section. is more of Q&A

As far as I know, the only way to install the official OTA and not lose all your data is to be on stock GB. You can RUU back to GB to accept the OTA but that'll wipe your data and you also need to be s-off to RUU back to GB. Other than that you can just run the 3.14.605.12 RUU (ICS OTA) and you'll be up to date (for the time being).
Which update do you mean? You're on the ics update already... If you're meaning the newest that adds global it's probably still a soak test. It will come eventually as long as the phones are stock

Don't think that's possible. The OTA is a diff file based on the last official Gingerbread. You have to be on that release with a locked bootloader and stock recovery to use it.

You mean the .10 leak before the OTA? I'm pretty sure your only option is to relock (if you are unlocked) and run the RUU. I am in the same boat. I got tired of waiting and ran the RUU of the .10 leak. Still on it. I really don't want to wipe the phone again, but I might have to. I do believe this is the only way. It was one of the warnings to installing the leak. I took the chance, and I don't regret it. There is nothing wrong with the .10 leak.

First attempt. I never tried to unlock it on ICS since I didn't want to void the warranty.
I upgraded to JB via the US_epad_user_10_4_2_15_UpdateLauncher.zip flash from micro-sd, and lost root in the process.
Since my warranty is almost over, I said the hell with it and unlocked with the UnLock_Device_App_V6.apk tool from Asus, so I could get root back.
Worked perfectly on the first try!
Good to hear! kwineon's experience had me thinking it wouldn't work.
I'm going to pull the trigger and unlock/nvflash soon. I've held off and postponed the OTA.

The idea was to let me unroot hers and prep it before any OTA now I'm not sure if she will get 4.4 correctly. She says it still says 4.3

The Dev Edition S4 normally does not have a locked bootloader. I say normally because some users took an Over The Air update which did lock the bootloader. So it depends on whether the bootloader is a stock MDK bootloader or if the user took a subsequent OTA update which in turn locked / changed the bootloader. Also, there is no factor image for the Dev Edition, so if it is locked it is going to stay locked for the foreseeable future. As for your second question, I'm not sure that will work. I think the firmware differences between TMO and Verizon plus the difference between GSM and CDMA will not be easy to overcome. But I don't know that for sure.
I'm not trying to be a know it all trust me lol but the dev s4 never got otas I don't believe. The users who locked then up did so by using Odin and retail firmware.
Just throwing that out there.

I don't take that as you being a know it all, you're probably right. I just know some Dev owners did something to lock their bootloaders I just assumed (wrongfully) that it was an OTA of some sorts. Sorry for the misinformation.

It's funny how I bought the DevEd, because I wanted a guarantee that I could ROM the device. But I fell in love with the stock OS, and don't care if I ever have KitKat.
