Well the title says it all... after upgrading to FW .15 I lost all HDMI out capabilities. It was working flawlessly before and now after many reboots and factory reset I conclude it is just ...dead.
Anyone else experiencing this ? My friend's TP seems to be doing the exact same thing so it might be a FW issue but it seems rather odd.

Once Asus posts the full ROM .zip of .15 on their support site I recommend downloading it, extracting the .zip contained within it, renaming the .zip to "SD201_UPDATE.zip" (without quotes) and placing it on the root directory of a Micro SD card. Then reboot (with the Micro SD in the slot of the Prime) while holding Vol Down + Power until you see some text appear on the upper left of the screen. Let go of the two buttons and then press Vol Up within 5 seconds or so of the text appearing. The Prime will then check the file's integrity and flash the kernel and ROM. If it doesn't work (you'll see the android laying on his back "dead") make sure you followed my instructions and downloaded the file specific to you Prime's locale (US, TW, WW) and try again. If it succeeds it will boot like normal and then you can test HDMI out. If it still doesn't work then you should contact ASUS support and file a warranty claim (unless you've unlocked your bootloader, which I gather you haven't since you are even asking this) and tell them you need a replacement unit. I hope this works for you - if it does say thanks .

THanks for the tip, will try that as soon as it becomes available.
And no, as much as I like tinkering with ROMs I'll play safe with the Prime for a while.
Will keep you posted.

That's terrible you need to go through all this. I just updated to .15 ignoring 14 for weeks right before seeing this thread. I been on 13 since I bought it and been using hdmi if it is dead now cuz of 15 Imma hate asus.
Do you see the hdmi notification when you attach the cable? Have you noticed any looseness in the hdmi port?

I've upgraded to .15 and have had no issues so far (touch wood!) with HDML output. I used it last night to watch a film with no problems. That would suggest that it's not a FW issue but then again this is the Transformer Prime! It's just a thought but have you tried another cable?

I haven't noticed any looseness besides how it's always been. I do not however see the HDMI notice popping up. So it could very well be hardware. What I do find odd however is that my friend has got the exact same issue post .15 The probability that both our HDMI would have suddently given up after .15 because of hardware failure seems low.
I'm actually having an issue with my HDMI port as well. I'm not sure if its .15 related but I just did a factory reset and it still won't connect. I tested the cable and it's not the cable.
This was before the update, but my HDMI is completely dead. The first time I tried the HDMI, it worked perfectly until after like 2 more times. Afterwards, it would not detect the HDMI at all. I bought another cable, no luck.
I can confirm it is not cable or monitor related since we have both tested our TP on multiple receivers, projectors and screens!
My friend's TP randomly detects the Micro HDMI connection but never outputs while mine never detects and never outputs.
Up until .15 I had used the HDMI out quite a few times and it always worked flawlessly while always having that "looseness"
Factory reset did not help here either.
This is a major issue for me as my TP was used as a portable home theater (and performed admirably at it until now).
Your problem is most likely hardware and the port for whatever reason just stopped working. I had the same problem with mine and have since returned it (will get another one as soon as BB gets some in). I've searched around and nobody else seems to be having an issue with the HDMI out port post .15
I've also heard from a few people that have HDMI port problems before the latest update.....maybe the port is poorly constructed and can break easily.
has anyone had issue displaying and playing games or more graphic oriented games on Prime thru HDMI connection? a couple weeks back I went home for holidays. I brought my HDMI cable n hooked it up to pops bigscreen Plasma. homescreen looked great, gallery looked great, everything performed good except when I tried to play a game like Shadowgun or Riptide. the game looked all glitched up on t.v. like completely blurred or something. hard to describe but definitely was not showing proper game image on t.v. thru HDMI. this was back on .14 update. just curious if anyone had that issue also or if something else might be the culprit.
also noticed at first like going into gallery everything would show up and I can scroll smoothly and transition fine between pictures. then after a while it seemed like screen would go blank in-between each picture then load the next. instead of at first where HDMI mirrored exactly what the prime would do. after a while it still scrolled thru pix but seemed like it needed to load LR something between each one. like connection lost for a brief second then comes back on next pic. instead of smooth transition between pix without loading. not sure as this was the first time I ever got to try out my HDMI connection. worked n looked great for the most part except what I described.

Anybody else have problems with the cursor freezing in webtop? Ive had it happen 3 times since i got the lapdock yesterday. Bluetooth mouse and touchpad. Im using ronaldos modified stock rom. Are there any cyan7 users using lapdock and have input? Im really liking the lapdock. Its not heavy duty as far as utilizing it, but its great for light weight stuff. Its a shame to have to send it back if this continues. Please share if you are or are not having this problem. Thanks
I voided my warranty.
I just bought a lapdock and for the life of me can't get it to work.. I'm running CM7 (which I know doesn't support it) but reverted to Alien ROM..as well as CheerPi..both no goes. I tried older versions..I tried setting up Blur..I tried the webtop hack zip (which wouldn't install..just would abort)..nothings working.
I don't know if I've got a bum lapdock or am just missing something. What are all you who have lapdocks on to get it working?
i'm on ronaldo_9's r-9 rom v5. it also worked for v3. i did the hdmi hack and one of the linux installs. try using the hdmi cable on a hdtv and see if that works. if it doesn't then your rom or phone or hdmi is borked. if it does work, then maybe your lapdock is borked.
Ya I tried plugging in the HDMI to the tv..and nothing except the moto symbol would come up. Oddly enough running CM7 I was actually able to get my phone screen mirrored on the lapdock..until it started rebooting on me..which tells me the lapdock "appears" to be functional.
I'm gonna try a clean fastboot wipe with the new version of Aura today, as well as the CWM webtop mod hack linked in that thread. I'm guessing that Blur needs to be a part of this to have the lapdock functioning? I guess I don't see why I need "hacks" to get the actual lapdock working lol.. I can understand it if I just want to use an HDMI cable..
EDIT: Completely wiped my phone via fastboot, installed the newest version of Aura (including Blur) as well as the webtop zip found in that thread. I'm typing this from my lapdock..so everything seems to be functioning. Now i'm going to do a Nandroid..and proceed to try other versions..with and without Blur, as well as other roms. Does anyone else get concerned with the amount of heat generated on the phone using the lapdpock? Is it possible to melt the processor lol?
My phone doesn't get too hot in lapdock. I haven't pushed it hard. Steady emulator play and it's fine. It gets hotter playing snes over hdmi. Go figure. Actually im more concerned about the area next to the phone. I'm assuming that's battery area. When plugged in, it gets hot where i'm concerned. When unplugged it gets fairly warm, but it seems to be within threshold. The only time my phone gets hot enough to worry about is when i stream youtube videos. But the cpu is pegged. I don't think i've played any games that stress the gpu though. I don't even know if the gpu is utilized in emulators. I'm guessing not because of the lag on lapdock/over hdmi.
I voided my warranty.
Mine's been consistently around 113F (45C) when in use with lapdock. I don't know if that's considered "too hot" or not..I guess i'll find out if things start melting lol. Granted i've only been using the lapdock for a few hours..but i've not had any problems with the trackpad and cursor (i don't have a BT mouse..yet ). I was happy to see I was able to speed up the mouse movements..and overall am impressed so far with the lapdock. Plugged a 2TB hardrive in and was watching movies no problem..now I'll need to figure out this PS3 hack so I can plug a controller in and play some Wonder Boy or Golden Axe lol

how were you able to speed up mouse? i don't see much settings for anything. the ps3 sixaxis controller app works well. but you need to follow the instructions for first pairing. a lot of people aren't reading or ignoring the instructions and not getting it to work. once paired, pairing is easy. you do lose touchscreen keyboard while paired though. oh and i think the cpu in the atrix has a threshold of 60 or 65c. i'm not worried about that. the battery is lower. when the battery gets hot it loses juice quicker.

At the top of the screen..upper right side you'll see a little "monitor" and beside it a "settings" icon. When you scroll over the settings icon a drop down menu appears, with configurable settings for Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, etc.
well shoot. i remember when i first did the hdmi hack i had settings. now i have the lapdock and i see nothing like that. i was wondering if it was included in the debian add on. i don't have settings or a monitor icon. in bottom left i have a touchpad looking deal that does nothing and bottom right a plus sign that lets you add icons.
is there another way to access settings?
Not that i'm aware of..Maybe you need to do a fresh webtop install. Although there is probably a way around it..though I know of none.
fresh webtop install? is there a way to do that? i thought webtop was already on the phone.

When I installed Aura from fresh this morning..prior to flashing the ROM I used fastboot to clear everything:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase user data
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase preinstall
Then flashed Aura, then installed the webtop CWM zip found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169457
This is all I did..remember I couldn't get webtop to work at all prior..so i'm happy to have something lol
You could just try fastboot erase webtop and then re-installing it..
well i fastboot erased it and reinstalled it. i think the installation is broken. it still works but i don't get the monitor/gear icon. anybody else have input?
i figured it out. unfroze phoneportal. thanks for your help. you indirectly led me to answer.
I flashed the Alien v4 rom and now my lapdock's keyboard and touchpad don't work. The Atrix screen shows a touchpad and mouse buttons. I can also access the keyboard.
Webtop works on my tv.
I never touched settings for this.
I've installed bloatware and tried the modified webtop here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169457
Still nothing. I don't see setting anywhere and I've searched quite a bit for this and can't find a similar problem.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Well i found this out. When i have my phone in my tpu case and i use lapdock, sometimes i lose keyboard/touchpad too. My phone comes off the connection a hair and it thinks it is webtop. I started having that problem too much so i take my phone out of my case and i haven't had the problem you described anymore.

Thanks!
I do have the rubberized battery door on the phone and it must've been causing the same problem you mentioned. Took it off and everything worked fine.
I also realized there is an unnecessary stretch of plastic the runs the length of the lapdock's dock tray. I easily popped this off with my fingers.
Now my Atrix sits in the dock with the rubberized battery door and there are no connection issues.
That's what that plastic is for. To use the dock with a case. Mine must be too thick so I have to take out of my case.

Hehe..i just flashed a different version of my current rom..and now have lost those very icons on webtop. It's gotta be a bug somewhere or something that is getting flashed over. Hopefully my prior settings are still saved lol.
I'll keep playing around and see if i can get the Settings icon back. If i figure it out I'll relay the info..
I've looked through the forum and can't find at least the HDMI question I have, so new post.
1) I purchased a HDMI cable to use with the TP as I would like to use it as a player for those things the Boxee Box can't handle yet (Hulu Plus, Netflix would be nice too if it does 5.1). When i hook it up to my TV I get a picture at 720p, but then it seems at though my tablet doesn't respond to any input. If I touch the back button I can get it to back, but I get the same behavior if I touch the middle of the screen too. It's almost like the calibration is messed up if I have it output to TV. I've turned it up to performance mode and same issue. If I unplug the cable I can use the TP again as before. We have 2 TPs and they both give the same issue, though one responds slightly better than the other.
2) A few weeks ago we were getting ready to leave, and in the mists of getting the kids buckled in the TP was left on top of the car. It fell and we didn't know where it was until we got a call later that night from the person who found it and was able to locate us. We thought he was being a good samaritan (who returns a $500 tablet, right?) until we later looked and discovered that he had tried to pry it open, probably to try to reseat the screen as it probably popped out from the impact. Right now only half the screen works, with the other half just a bunch of colored lines (though the touchscreen part still works perfectly...it takes a couple of tries to unlock it).
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew where I may get a new screen? ASUS just got back to me and I haven't contacted them yet, but I was hoping I could see what prices may be for a replacement before calling them and seeing what they would charge.
All,
Been lurking for quite some time - I've used the info via search to install 2 different ROMS (VeganTab 7.1 and SmootherBean 4.1.2) over the course of the last year or so. I decided Friday night I'd give another one a try...and that's when things went south.
I'm well versed technically, and have no issue using or understanding nvflash, APX mode, etc. So, my first two forays into getting the G-tablet setup went real well. I enjoyed the process and the results were great.
So anyway, I am about to start the process for the third ROM, giving Harmony JellyBean a shot.
Upon shutdown of my tablet from SmootherBean, things got funky. I *may* have left the USB cord in the tablet and my computer, as I was backing up a few files before starting. But, I think I pulled it out. I don't recall, because I didn't think I was going to have an issue at that stage.
Basically, the tablet went dark and then it appeared to refuse to power up. I decided, since I hadn't started loading anything, or attempting to nvflash anything, that it was removed from my upgrade process - this happened before cracking into a new ROM in any way, aside from backing up data.
So, I ended up opening up the gtablet and followed the instructions I found searching to pull the battery cord and reset it. After I did this, it booted up - but not normally. It booted to the SmootherBean lock screen, but had no touch screen.
So then I made what was probably a large mistake. I figured since these things are hard to brick, I'd go ahead flash it with the Team DRH 350mb version via nvflash and then just install Harmony Bean. My gTablet hasn't booted properly since.
Currently all I get on boot is the 3 birds, and then a few seconds later, there appears to be about a 5-6 pixel "band" that turns black on the bottom. Otherwise the image doesn't change. Trying recovery mode boot is the same - it states it's booting to the recovery kernel, but then the black band appears on the bottom and it goes no where. I've let it sit minutes, even over an hour....no go.
So, I've spent time this weekend off and on, searching these forums for any tips I can find. I've tried the bekit full stock flashes, the format jobs, opening the tablet and pulling the battery, shorting the contacts, some of the CWM based nvflash files, just doing the recovery image, etc.
The last one I tried seemed like it was the "be all" for this type of situation: Restoring the G-Tablet from a failed recovery found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167944
So I staged everything and began, and same deal, as soon as I get to any steps where it should boot, it refuses to. It just shows that darn black band of pixels below the 3 birds image after a few seconds.
I get the feeling it's got a message behind there, I just don't know what it is.
So - basically I've been unable to get this going. Is there anything else I can try? I've tried the TeamDRH ICS and JellyBean nvflashes, the bekit stock, 3028 w/ cwm, 5504 w/ cwm, (both 1.2 branch), etc.
Here's a few things I'm probably doing wrong, or did wrong during this ordeal:
1.) Possibly left the usb cord in when shutting down the tablet running SmootherBean. Is that a problem if so?
2.) When opening the gtablet, I did, sad to say as this is embarrassing, damaged the ribbon cable going to the camera. About two of the copper leads in the cable are damaged. I removed the camera as a result, but put it back in to see if that would change things. I did this damage on the initial opening of it, and it did boot (albeit w/ no touchscreen) afterwards. I don't see how the camera attacheds to the touchpanel so I don't see them as related.
2a.) Could the device be looking for the camera on initial boot and fail with it missing or broken?
2b.) Did I mention that was an embarrassing goof? Heh... I've done plenty of board work and small soldering, opened most of my electronic devices, modded many, so embarassed I damaged that cable...
3.) I can't recall if my tablet was a 1.1 or 1.2 branch device. I've tried both though...all things I nvflash have he same symptoms upon bootup.
So....what do you all think? Could this simply be a hardware issue? Am I doing something way wrong? Any tips beyond search?
I've searched and searched for hours, and read tons of posts and tried many things - the only thing I couldn't find was any reference to a damaged camera and/or this black band of pixels that appears seconds after booting up.
I think those birds are laughing at me.
Thx in advance, this place is a great resource for info!!
First: I would check all the cables. Other people have opened their tablets up and dislodged the cables to the touchscreen, the HW buttons and the LCD display. It's caused problems before.
Second: If you've checked that all the cables are correctly and securely connected, then use nvflash with bekit's image files and go back to a 1.1 bootloader. Then, run the command in this post with the modified image in the attachment and post pics or the kernel messages that show up on the screen. This should let us determine if it's a HW problem or something else.
Did you use an anti-static wrist strap before you opened the tablet up?

Thank you! The image with kernal messages is sweet - it worked great.
I followed the entire thread from the post you made (here) and my gtablet stops at the same spot the poster had in there.
I took it apart again before checkign this thread and couldn't see any visible damage. But, I will take look at the board/connectors for the soft buttons. That sounds like it is my problem.
Thx!

Reboot the tablet a few times and see if it stops at the same place. Note that even if it always stops by failing to initialize the soft button controller, that might not be the only problem. Remember that we're only seeing last few lines. Also keep in mind that problems with the main SoC chip itself could appear as problems with the soft-button controller or the connections to it.
Still, I'm intrigued at the fact that 2 different tablets are stopping at the same place.
I have the same problem on my Z-pad.How can I do?
My dock only connects sometimes, usually after it's been disconnected for a while and i unlock it.
But at times i try to unlock it and it simply won't work at all.
The prime itself has no problem with connectivity it seems, it connects to chargers and to USB for file transfers no problem, it's just the dock it has a problem with.
Also sometimes it'll say it's connected but only the keys will work, not the trackpad or buttons on it.
I have tried 3 docks, one for the tf201 and two for the tf300, all have the same symptom and none offer anything more than a sporadic connection.
Having it charged makes no difference at all.
My prime has been sent back to asus twice now already.
Has anyone had a similar issue?
Running Androwook v2.0, Android 4.2.
I've already asked in the thread and no one has said that they're having anything similar, this problem also was persistent on other versions of android and even on the stock rom.
Any help is appreciated.
I'm having a similar problem. The keyboard randomly stops typing. All I have to do is detach the tablet, and put it back to fix it, but that's very annoying. It happens a lot.
I'm completely stock, and have done a factory reset, but it didn't help.

Yea i'm having the same issue kind of, for me if it's on and i disconnect it and reconnect it it will continue to work, if i leave it off for a bit then it might decide not to work, I've already RMA'd mine twice and i simply can't be bothered doing it again.
My mate has asked me to swap it for his Sony tab, not the xperia Z one the one before it, i might actually do it cos this is just getting to be a joke.
EDIT: Just had a look at the Sony tablet S section and it's like a ghost town, i think i'll be keeping my Prime until i can at least afford to buy another one, i'm getting the HTC One next over the s4, Sammy has burnt it's own bridges by not letting the UK have the octa core version.
As far as the prime is concerned, if i send it off again, I have no idea what condition it'll come back in, plus i'm doubting that it will have ICS on it like it did when i got it back this time.
Hi all,
I'm currently on holiday and my phone as many of us is my carry camera, sat nav and all around organizing tool!
Used it yesterday all day with no issues , got to the car and the camera was running. No big deal except the screen had become unresponsive, nothing would work so I did a volume down/power button to force restart.
That didn't help and i'm now where I was 15 hrs ago at the pin enter screen, I cannot factory restart as it wants you to type in Yes (omg)
I cannot back up and data (all photos on a memory card though :good: )
Tried multiple restarts, shutdowns, run it flat, charged it up, done the restarts connected to a computer, not connected.
Could I factory reset via ADB?
Use a mouse to unlock?
Different combination of button presses?
Promise to be a better man..anything!:
Any idea very welcome!!
Thank you
Rory

Any other suggestions apart from returning it?
Someone must have had a similar issue (well I know they have via searching but there hasn't been any advice on the next step.
It seems more like a software fault rather than hardware (or maybe that is wishful thinking) plus sending to Huawei doesn't really help while on holiday. ?
The phone has never been dropped, always in a case, etc..
Has or is it possible to factory reset it via adb only? I guess the other way is to update it via adb?
Calling all xda gurus, I know you are out there! any ideas welcome, apart from returning it at this stage. ?
As you said you can try using and external mouse!
Quick update.
Got it working.
USB wired mouse worked perfectly, this way you can back up all data, photos/android folder etc even if the phone does not come back to life. Kind of crucial as even if you have a memory card a NM reader is not easy to pick up (quickly)
Luckily with the bunch of cables i carry with my frequent travelling I was able to go wired usb A mouse to OTG to micro usb mini to mini to C adaptor. (obviously a micro usb C mouse is not as easy to get hold of)
Now the screen coming back to life process was not so clear, it took a few factory resets and a night plugged into a laptop in the bootloader menu to respond?
All was well for the last week of the holiday (however i fear a hardware problem may be hiding or I was unlucky with a software issue), either way all was good when it was needed and I will see what progresses.
Have the same issue, did the wired mouse let you use it for “regular” things like messaging

Have you got a mouse plugged into usb C to back up and perform a factory reset??
